Hope someone can help me with this problem. So my phone was rooted a while ago (I don't remember the method I used) and I installed the OTA update from early December no problem but lost root in the process.
Since then my phones been having a pain in the ass rebooting issue everyday. It'll constantly reboot for no reason. I had read somewhere that rerooting the phone will solve this.
So I downloaded Z4 and was able to install it. But every time I try to root my phone using Z4 the program will run for a while and then freeze my phone entirely forcing me to remove the battery to reboot it.
Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong? I already tried making sure the phone was in debugging mode as I had read some peoples posts saying it didn't work for them otherwise. Any help would be appreciated, all these random reboots are driving me crazy.

No problem.
My DX System Version is 2.3.340, and nothing worked, neither manual nor single-button.
Tried z4root and worked the first time (from thread).

Hey,
I'm a "noob" and not SUPER technically advanced when it comes to phones, but I have a decent idea how to do things with it.
I got an Incredible used from someone and it was already rooted by him. I was told the other night that you need to have the phone unrooted in order to get the official OTA 2.2 update. That night I attempted to unroot it, but turns out I was doing it wrong. I went to bed, and woke up with the OTA update on my phone asking if I wanted to install it, so I said Install Now, and it went to the Boot screen and I dont know if I did something wrong, or it just wouldnt work because my phone was rooted.
So now, 3 days later I've got it Unrooted finally, and I've tried several different update.zip files that I've downloaded from different forums, etc. None of them will work, and they all say Installation Aborted.
Also, when I am in the recovery screen, it says E: Can't open /cache/recovery/command
I've tried several different sd cards thinking that was the problem, and same failure everytime. I have a feeling it is my phone itself..
Any ideas, help, advice??
Greatly appreciated..

Just download the Verizon 2.2 Froyo update RUU. Run it on your computer with your phone connected and you'll get it. You didn't need to unroot either cause it will automatically zap that.

I'm not sure if Mac is a problem but I'm sure you can find someone with a PC that will let you use it. I will private message you the link cause xda won't let me post a link here cause I'm too new to the forums. Check your inbox.
Hey guys, I really need some help here.
This morning there was a notification about system update, I bet it was the honeycomb 3.1 so I just let it run. However, it turned out that the update failed at last. Since then I can't get the system update notification anymore. I manually checked the update in settings and it showed that "There is no update available for your device currently." I have rebooted the unit several times and tried "Factory data reset" and got no change. I searched around the forum and found this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=14345169
and tried the approach mentioned in it and it's still the same.
I even tried using the leaked update file to update the device and it still won't get updated.
Would you please help me look into this issue? Thanks a lot.
are you still on .9?
if so, just root the device, and install a 3.1 rom via clockwork.

Yes, I have downgraded the firmware to .9. But the thing is, I have a mac and the root guide I found here seems require a windows system. And it really bothers me that something isn't working out of blue. So I'd really like to understand why this is happening. Thanks anyway, I will try to root it if I can't figure this out.

Strangest thing this morning... I'd been trying unsucessfully to root my device with a cooked rom to no avail... couldn't get it to boot into recovery after several tries of the "Acer" auto update a couple of weeks ago... tab worked fine and was rooted so Titanium Backup worked.... this morning, a 497meg update downloaded and updated my system to ACER_A500_4.010.11_COM_GEN2 and worked with no problems. Now, I am in no way able to re-root the system. Any suggestions?
Help please!

"Iconia Root could not be installed. Free up some space and try again"
I am not new to this and have checked most all options I could think of.... even rooted, bricked and fixed a few devices. Been around on xda since '06 been cooking phones since the early Palm days...
This is a factory download.... literally automatic.....
Have got lots of irons in the fire and no time to decode software on this device.
While you guys are at it, there are some programs from the Market that reflect: "unsucessful install".
Thanks for the link that I've already tried prior to posting, and again this am..... with same results as above.
Any other suggestions?

sounds like you filled up your onboard memory 16GB?
32gb on board, no matter what or how much is stopped, will not root.
If you are having issues rooting your kindle with guides online the reason behind it is that you are using an outdated version of "Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry_v*" Currently most of the guides all have you downloading and using Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry_v17. You want to use a version of Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry_v version 21 or above. I did mine with version 21 and my gf's with version 28. I just wanted to make sure that it would work with a latest i could find.
Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry_v21 can be found with the link provided below. You can also google other Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry_v and try them out until you get your kindle rooted.
apparently i can't link outside
d -h.st /dm9
just copy it and paste it then backspace on the spaces to make it a usable url

hi, thanks for the above.
as a total noob to this, i sppent most of thursday researching how to do this, then carried it out eventually successfully too, only to wanke up on friday morning to see my device had updated to 7.3.1.
ive now downloaded binary v28, root with restore - how do i use this version? i used this guide -
androidforums com/kindle-fire-hd-all-things-root/669366-idiots-guide-rooting-kindle-fire-hd-7-7-2-3-a.html
to carry out my rooting, so i now need to know how to do it using the v28 version, and if there is any differences to the process linked above.
also, i downloaded droidwall, and thought i had blocked the updating app, but it obviously hadnt. then i noticed at the top it said "firewall disabled" how do i enable this?
and finally, how do i get to change the launcher / user interface/ how can i change this to a one similar to the galaxy tab or something else like this?
yes, i am a noob, and all help is welcome guys. many thanks in advance.

Yeah the only difference is that you are using an upgraded version of program they have so instead of using v17 use newer version. I think once you install the new google play store all you have to do is find GO Launcher in the market place.

Download DroidWall from the googplaystore, that app disables updates. I don't know much about golauncher. If you follow the guide and have googleplaystore then you should be able to download everything.
I have confirmed that Bin4ry (I used v26) method works fine for both 7.3.0 and the new 7.3.1 update that is just rolling out. Here are some instructions that hopefully is clear for everyone (link). Obviously the main credit goes to the root method.
Was having trouble getting root again after my kindle went to 7.3.1. This worked for me. Thanks for the help!
Problems with attempting to root on 7.3.1
Hello-
I have used the "Root with Restore by Bin4ry_v29" to no avail and I am extremely perplexed as to whats going wrong. I have followed all the instructions outlined and during the process I do see multiple instances within the application saying "permissions denied" yet it continues as if everything is ok. Well, once it says everything is finished and I have rebooted the device multiple times, its EXTREMELY sluggish and borderline unresponsive. It also doesn't have root access as Superuser isn't on the device. So I am asking for any advice/guidance anyone can provide that maybe knows whats up or has had this happen and knows what the problem is.
Please help!
ps: Not new to rooting either as I have rooted all the android phones I have ever had with no problems but I know the Kindle is a different beast.
Thanks!
I'm on my phone so I can't post the link but if you search you'll find it, but I just rooted a new KFHD four days ago by using prokenexus how to root for noon guide. I followed it from start to finish and was completely successful. Took a total of about 45 minutes. He has two ways to root in his thread, automated and manual. I always like doing manual so I can see everything that is going on. But it worked like a charm. So might want to give that a look.

So did I - and it worked happily for three seconds until it rebooted again and I found I had 7.4.1 on the Kindle.
I can't find anything else on the web atm on 7.4.1 so either I've been hacked or I'm one of the first to get it.
I just did mine a second ago. Second time Ive done this, but I cant rememeber what i did last time to remedy the issue. Once I did it, it fixed the lag. hmmm... someone please help me remember....

Found this article and worked.
Super slow after boot solved!
Ok even though this guide stated that if you are on version 7.2.3, you don't need to run rootqemu. Bat method, that was not true in my case. After running through the runme phase in cmnd prompt, choosing normal root, and letting the process finish and reboot, my device was ridiculously slow, and not rooted might I add. Here's the trick though, immediately after that process finishes, you need to run the Rootqemu method also. But when you try to run Rootqemu.bat by right clicking and running as administrator, it doesn't recognize the device. What I had to do was left click on ONLY the folder that contained the Rootqemu files, and while only that folder is highlighted, you hold down the shift key and right click on the folder. Then you are going to click on "run command prompt here". Once the command prompt opens, you are going to type Rootqemu.bat and press enter. Then you can press 1 to root, let the program run through its few stages, and after it reboots several times and finishes it's process, voila no more lag, and you should be finally rooted. Also after that process, download a program called Kindlefree. It's an absolutely amazing, and simple way to install all the essential Google apps "aka" Gapps to your rooted Kindle fire hd. I hope this helps everyone like it did me!

Hello fellow users and visitors. I've been following this site for a while now, yes I'm considered a "noob" here but I have my experiences well beyond the level of a "noob." This is my first post, and I indeed have a KF HD 7. Since there is so much confusion as far as CLEAR NEWBIES INSTRUCTIONS, I've decided to give everyone the guide I used to root my Kindle, which was derived from a guide here at XDA itself. You can find it here at
androidcowboy (DOT) com /2013/04/root-kindle-fire-hd-7-3-0-firmware/
This DOES indeed work for 7.3.1 as mine was, it took me two tries. But heed my warning, rooting this beauty MAY cause some issues as it has to mine such as randomly shutting off, battery showing up as 0% on some occasions when it is turned on, and sometimes refusing to charge more frequently than it used to. Those issues eventually happen without root, some people have these problems the first week of having a fresh new KFHD7, and I have friends with the same Kindle, rooted, and theirs do not present same issue, so I guess some do some don't.
Good luck and happy rooting. Now you can revive Google Play!
Another confirmation for 7.3.1. I followed Android Cowboy's procedures for both rooting and installing Google Play. Very easy. Thanks Cowboy!
Sent from my KFTT using Tapatalk HD
If you have issues rooting, please go to my thread in my signature. I addressed the issue of rooting on 7.3.1, and have written quick explanation for rooting with Bin4ry's method. The guide goes on to help you flash a custom ROM, should you so desire to get rid of that nasty Amazon OS interface.
I tried to flash it but it only bootloops for me. Have tried almost everything it seems. Have never had so much trouble flashing a phone.
I have tried Lieage os 15.1 but after i tried to flash N2G48B_4Cores.img from this side https://www.xda-developers.com/nexus-6p-bootloop-fix/ Lineageos bootloops even faster. Even tried the twrp from the side who requires a password I cant find so it it is useless.
I have tried Aquatios but it bootloops.
I have tried to flash stock android but it says something about the zip is wrong.
Someone who knows what I should do or am I stuck? I forgot to make a backup to so I am a bit desperate. Never forget it usually but only because it's not my phone I do forget.
I hope someone knows what I should do.
*EDIT* [SOLVED]
Trie this and got a bit further: https://forum.xda-developers.com/ne...t/rom-lineageos-16-0-nexus-6p-angler-t3849169
Only that the screen flashes soon after after the settings come up and turn itself of after a while.
I have not flashed the radio though. Is that necessary?
*EDIT 2* [NOT SOLVED]
The radio were necessary for wifi.
Now is the problem with signing in to google.
Never can anything go smoothly.
I solved it finally. Will remove the thread as soon as I see how I do. Have not used xda in a while.

Yeah. What did I do. Tried until I found a solution that worked. Think I mentioned it (did not). This thread I looked at to solve that problem: https://forum.xda-developers.com/ne...t/rom-lineageos-16-0-nexus-6p-angler-t3849169
I had to flash a bootloader file and after that it worked better.
But I can't sign in to google how I do. Will try a couple of other gapps. Hopefully someone will work.
I have seen this before but don't remember how I solved it back then.
It even bootloops if it don't like the gapps.
New problems every time. A new one again where it crashes in the initial settings.
It stopped suddenly and is now back to checking info and this time it said it can't connect to google servers.
Have never ever worked with such a ****ty phone.
*EDIT*
I give up. It is as good as it gets.
If someone else of her friends wants to try so be my guest.
Over and out for this time.
If it's toast from the infamous bootloop issue can't blame you for setting the phone aside. But if you venture back to it I'd suggest flashing stock Google firmware then doing the 4cores fix if needed.
