[Q] Changed density - now its looping! - Galaxy Tab General

Hi, i was playing around with the density changer app, and ofcourse i wanna try to see how it looked at 100, after a did that, it took a bit to boot then it just showed the desk and started all over again, and now its just restarts all the time, but it just shows me the samsung logo, and after like 5 min of restarts the desk appears again but it dissapear after 4 sec so i have no chance to let it load up and acces the meny to start the app and change. what to do?
i know its my own fault, just gut it from my girlfriend so.
regards jonny

Access recovery then reformat.

Does it still do it after a coldboot? (hold power button until it turns off fully, then reboot)
If so, then you've managed to set it in the build.prop file, if you can get to it (adb shell or adb pull/push), you can edit /build.prop on the device and change the 100 value back to 240.
I don't think a "factory reset" will reset the build.prop file, in which case the alternative would be a complete reflash.

Actually if I remember correctly, it does reset build.prop.

Thanks all for the answers, i was trying all the 3 buttons way to get into a form of loaders even the force upload one before i was in here.
But then i pluged in the cable from the computer and started the tab and when it had load up everything, everything was fine:S
If someone has the same problem try that, dunno why it would work but it did.

[Q] Need help with semi/soft brick!

So my Vibrant has been turning off randomly. I think its because of the loose battery or maybe it's just over-heating. But a few days ago, after turning it on there is only a black screen and lit capacitive buttons at the bottom.
It boots up normal, with the vibrant name, t-mobile animation, and the Galaxy S boot animation, then black screen! This started to happen after a few reboots, and now it won't rebbot properly, just black screen. It seems like I have to restore my phone, but the problem is I cannot get the phone into recovery or download mode! Please advise.

First of all, there's no such thing as semi brick, there's brick or not. Try installing your Rom again..
Dan0zone don't be rude man,.backup your apps, enter recovery more delete all user data, if after that you have the same problem restore, or keep trying to enter download mode, try different methods

Do this bro... just tested it myself, works fine...
get adb installed on your computer, should already have it if your rooting but if not get it, youll find it in the stickied thread for informative links in the development section.
get a cmd prompt open on your computer and type in
>adb devices
let it start up deamon and it will tell you device not found, its ok.
now type and have ready...
>adb reboot recovery (do NOT press enter yet)
start your phone like normal. before its even finished with the boot up tmobile animation and the galaxy s (but after the plain vibrant text/picture) logo press enter. if it says error: device not found then wait all the way till galaxy s only you did it too early...
screen will go black and reboot into standard recovery... hope to goodness you had a working clockwork recovery installed and nandroid ready for this next part...
go down using your volume keys and select reinstall packages using the power key
now in clockwork recovery go down to nandroid
now go to restore
go to your earliest back up and restore it.
there you go.
I would start fresh get odin set up and reinstall the original rom at this point as something may still be corrupted, reroot, install latest clockworkmod, latest vibrant 9 rom (im using and see no bugs and runs better then the vibrant 6 rom i had) and DONT install the lag fix until the newest "TRUE" lag fix comes out with the new file system and kernel that JAC is working on and has almost ready.
good luck and pm me if any of these steps need further explanation.

hes just stated man that he cant even get into recovery, my guess is hes locked out using the volume up/down keys like many new phones are (which btw is a known defect, spend 10min on the phone with tmobile doing thier trouble shooting to show them it doesnt work and they send you a replacement..) sooooo I gave him a way to get into recovery without the buttons and not having to wait till he gets to a black screen where possibly its frozen and he cant use adb commands.
I was just making mention to you also that he cant even back stuff up NOW (hopefully he already archived all his apps and data) and hes better off starting fresh since hes getting problems using his current rom/lagfix....
Thanks for the quick reply p()()pypants, but i will have to try your method later. It's late and I have class (college) tomorrow, but i will post my results soon. Thank you again.
Edit 1:
Btw, is there a way to back up my current rom? Like the way rom manager back up roms? I know my current rom works before so that's why I want to back it up.
Edit 2:
Actually i did not use adb to root my phone, just used the one click method. So can you please give me more detailed instructions on how to install/use adb?
Okay, I typed in "adb reboot recovery" and press enter as my phone booted up during the t-mobile animation and at the Galaxy S boot animation. Neither time work. Then I reentered it again after the black screen. That did not work either. CMD keeps on returning "error: device not found" and the phone stays on with the black screen.

Do you have the right drivers installed? You can check here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=728929
Another very stupid question, just to cover all bases - your phone is plugged into the computer, correct? When you install the new drivers, try plugging the phone into a different USB port on the computer than you've been using, so it will hopefully pick up the new drivers without much extra effort.
If that doesn't help, just keep trying the command while the phone boots up. Maybe you'll get lucky and it will work. Sorry I don't have any real solution for you :\
I'm fairly sure I have the right drivers, otherwise I wouldn't be able to root in the first place. Yes, the phone is plugged in also. I'll try a different USB port and see what happens...
Update: Trying different USB ports does not help.

[Q] Unable to get into CWM and no service/WiFi

Hi, I have a really strange problem.
I had this build of MIUI on my phone for a few months, no problems
droidforums[.net]/forum/dro...-6-stable[.html]
but a few days ago, my phone started giving whacky battery readings (would drop from 40% to 5% in a few seconds) and i wanted to go into CWM to reset the battery stats.
So I had my phone plugged into my car charger, and when I booted into recovery, it didnt do anything, and the screen stayed black for a few minutes (I assumed it was out of power)
When it booted again, ALL OF MY DATA had been cleared and MIUI WAS NOT EVEN THE SAME AS THE ONE I HAD FLASHED. Same version number, sure, but completely different theme and boot animation. (I believe its currently the stock theme)
Well whats even wierder is that I have no data or wifi. Wifi gets stuck on "Obtaining IP address"
And whats even wierderer than than is that every time i boot my phone up, I am greeted with the android activation screen, no matter how many times I hit skip the set up
I obviously cant activate my phone without a connection
it also resets itself every time i turn it on. Any app that I install from my SD card will be gone.
It gets worse. Droid 2 bootstrap does nothing, even though it reports success. I cant use ROM manager as it has to install CWM from the server.
The reboot recovery option from the boot menu just reboots the phone, and there is no blue LED on boot that I can see to press volume down.
(Holding volume down gives me the android with the box and arrow, and nothing else, I know this has to do with recovery but not much else)
So can anyone tell me how to get CWM working again???
THANKS!
Does your MIUI have a boot menu? If it does you should see a light right before it goes to the boot animation.

You could try a data wipe in stock recovery.

Actually, i cant even get into stock recovery. I see the android and the box after I press x, but pressing the search key does nothing and the search key works.
You have to press both volume buttons at the same time.

[Q] Bootloop

I installed Asphalt 8 on the G2 only to find out the graphics settings only go up to low. I looked for a fix, and found I could get access to high graphics by changing the model in the build.prop file. I think I must've entered another model nuumber for a supported phone wrong somehow, rebooted and now it's in a bootloop with the LG Logo. Can I change the build.prop WITHOUT wiping it and installing a fresh stock ROM? I'm rooted and have TWRP & Busybox.
check the location of build prop then crate a buildprop cwm zip. U can reuse one fron another device. However put in correct buildprop and correct location of this on device in the script, then flash though recovery. It should boot then. Edit it in notepad++ though.

Try holding Power+Volume Up.
If that fails, go to download mode by holding Volume Up while you insert your USB cable. Follow the instructions here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2432476

I fear that during a boot loop there is little you can do.
And, as the battery cannot be removed, you need to wait for the battery to die! Then you power on to TWRP.
Power + Volume Down until the LG logo disappears and appears again. Let go of Power+Vol Down for a moment and press them back again. Should bring you to a white screen asking if you want to factory reset your phone. Press Power button to confirm and it should then bring you to recovery.

I've done something bad to my phone (tried to do a factor reset from within TWRP) and now I'm trying to get out of a boot loop myself... When I do the Power+Down trick to rest, it doesn't safely enter recovery and wait for me to do stuff, it launches some sort of recovery/reset script and reboots into my boot loop again.
Anyone know what I'm doing wrong? I was on stock firmware, rooted, with TWRP 6.3.2.1.

You don't have to wait until your battery dies in order to shut down from a bootloop. If you hold all three buttons down, it will force shut down your phone. Not sure how long you have to hold it, but I believe you hold until after the LG logo disappears for the second time. It worked for me yesterday after I bootlooped my phone when I mistakenly enabled Thermal Daemon Mitigation instead of High Temperature Property in the Hidden Menu (don't ever do that). I'm not rooted, so I'm not sure if the function still works the same, but if you can get into TWRP after the phone is shutdown, then I believe that's the only way to do it.

[Q] need help plz

Hi all,
I just got my phone and rooted it with iorooted.
All went well and was back into the device.
Then I installed a lcd density changer and changed it to 320 and rebooted now phone is stuck on lg screen and not progressing like stuck.
I was able to power it off with button up and power down for 20 second. I also went into recovery mode to try a factory erase reset but it still is stuck on lg screen and not progressing after rebooting.
Furthermore, I was able to go into download mode and it says root at bottom performing firmware upgrade but the bar is not progressing so I turned it off after 5minutes
Any ideas?
Really upset on first night using device.
TIA

Just follow this post, go back to stock and start all over again. If you still have recovery you can use adb to push rom zip to internal storage and flash it. Btw I'm not sure but I think that changing density lower than 380 on g2 will cause issues.

Thanks for the quick reply.
Since I was using a 4.2.2 version can I grab the uk kdz and flash that onto it?
and then follow the steps as per that link?
Also is it possible to use a tool to enter the phone and modify the lcd density in build.prop back to default?

Bricked out of the blue.... how to unbrick it without access to recovery?

My HTC U Ultra suddenly froze past nigth, then it rebooted... and never came back, it won't go past the HTC logo over and over. I am not able to enter in recovery mode either, the only thing I can do is, by pressing both volume buttons and power, entering in what seems to be fastboot menu. In that state I can send the phone fastboot commands (no adb commands though) but If i try to wipe it it says "unable to do in s-on" or similar. I was pretty happy with this phone, and spent a few bucks in a new battery not two months ago.... anything I can do?
Thanks.
PS: I failed to state that the phone is stock, not unlocked or rooted.
If it has just happened out of the blue and you haven't been doing anything with your phone, have you tried a simple reset? (Press and hold volume down and power button until your phone vibrates - Usually about 20 seconds for me)
If not, and you are struggling to get into recovery etc, see if you can follow the method in the thread linked below if you are currently on stock rom!?
(Not sure if this would delete all your data or not, so perhaps only use as a last resort....)

Reset doesn't work, and the other procedure didn't work either.
If I leave it plugged to the charger, it will fall into an endless reboot loop. Sometimes (few) it will end up booting, but If i try to do something with the phone it doesn't respond and reboots again.
Thanks.
As you can send fastboot commands, can you flash a recovery.img (i.e. TWRP), and then wipe cache and dalvik/art to see if that helps, but if not, flash corresponding rom to that which you already have?

I tried that, too, but didn't work. If I do a fastboot devices it detects the phone, but if I do a fastboot getvar all it doesn't give me any information, it doesn't admit adb commands, when I try to flash a rom or a recovery, it fails, I suspect it needs to have the USB debugging enabled, but I can't enable it in this state.
As I said before, if I leave it plugged to the charger, It will randomly end up booting (it can happen in the third loop or in the 50th), but it will freeze or reboot again in few seconds.
Ah I see, if you haven't got USB debugging enabled then I am unsure how to help sorry. Have you got your media backed up, or stored on micro sd? If so, might have to bite the bullet and do a factory reset. Sorry I couldn't be of any help. Maybe someone else would be able to help you further?

The data is not a problem, every important file has been backed up.
Regarding factory reset, since the device won't go to recovery, I can't see how can I do it.
-- Edit --
I noticed that when the phone is cold, those few times it boots, it lasts a little bit more (a matter of seconds) until it freezes again, so I tried to leave it in the freezer for a few minutes, and tried to boot it, and had enough time to do a factory reset. The factory reset worked, because now, when it boots, it goes straight to the intial setup, but keeps hanging after a few seconds. I suspect that the internal memory was somehow damaged, I don't think there is much left to do...
Is it possible to skip setup in order to get to settings and enable USB debugging so you can install a recovery?
If you can, then it might be an idea to try performing a repair of all the partitions and install a fresh ROM... Just to ensure it isn't a hardware issue!!

I can't see how to skip initial setup... and I don't have time enough to go through it, the phone will hang in 30 seconds or less. At this point, I really needed a working phone, so I bite the bullet and bought a new one... I will deal with the old one later, or I might sell it for parts.
Thanks everybody for the help.
No worries, enjoy your new phone
