I thought that too then I remembered this is not a religious forum.
Anyway, sounds like you will need the jig, read up in the bible sticky (now that does sound religious) if the other ways to get you into recovery do not work, then the jig will do it.. You could just go get a 301k resistor use a wooden toothpick and shove it into the usb side between to 2 contacts (2&4?) and then plug into your phone and that will work check on the link the above sent you. don't worry you will get out of this, I only know of handful of people who really bricked the vibrant and they are super tweakers.......this is solvable.

Wonder if this would work??/ http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=804305

You need to get into download mode:
try this:
reboot your computer
pull the battery on the phone and leave it out
plug in the usb to both comp and phone
hold both volume keys
put in battery while holding the volume keys
That should get you into download mode
Then odin this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803492
MAKE SURE you click the PDA checkbox not phone when you odin.

im not sure that I have hardware mode but to get to download mode.
I pull the battery to make sure the phone is off. Hold the volume key and plug in the cord. Make sure you have odin with all the proper files ready to go ... Once you plug in and see that you have a com.. you can just hit start. Oh and pull your simcard and sdcard out also.
aslong as you see that phone and computer symbol your phone is never dead.

This is exactly what happened to a friend of mine as well. He accidentally flashed the captivate Odin3; nothing works now. The weird thing is, is when you plug up the phone now it will do nothing. It won't power on. It won't even give prompt from the computer, anything. The only way it will power up at all is having he battery in only. Can someone explain me how this might happen? Can a software flash just short out a board?
I don't know how to help you...but am wondering why do people try this?????? We know there is no recovery available...I am just speechless.... That's probably why moto locked bootloader cause of crap like this and money loss

Ill on honestly he could of been looking for a way to clear the stock/angel rom, so that he could reflash to stock. Even if you reflash/wipe cache/ reformat some settings remain. For instance if you don't have debugging on and you turn the brightness off by mistake you're FUBAR'd!
Can he get to download mode (battery out! Usb connected. Volume down). If he does, there's still hope.
I actually had to flash the US Cellular kernel in order to get to the point where I could re-flash the stock kernel.

Just to confirm then, because it sounds like you've already tried: are you positive you are unable to get into download mode?

I have flashed the captivate rom and the i9000 rom before from odin, and was still able to get into download mode. At the time i hadnt made the odin restore files so i had no way of fixing it. The files i created in another thread should be able to get him back, as namebrandon can tell you

That is what is so weird about all this. If he usb is plugged in at all the phone will not power on. It will only power on when it is using the battery.
And yes. He was trying to flash back to stock ROM bc he bricked it with a different ROM. He was under the impression that Odin would auto detect his phone.

If he cannot get into download mode (pull out battery, pull out sd card, put battery back in, hold ONLY the volume down key and plug into computer) then he completely bricked his phone. He might have clicked the update boot loader option in Odin, or just flashed something that he didn't know what would happen when he did.
If he takes it back to verizon, they will most likely replace it as long as he doesn't tell them he rooted it / tried flashing it.

Microwave?
Take the battery out first. 4-5 seconds should do it. Too long and the plastic will melt.

um. how about that is a horrible idea. i just kicked you on irc for even suggesting that.
If you cant get into download mode, you could always splice a micro usb cable into a surge protected outlet and burn out the board...

We're to the point of trying to figure out how to completely destroy a phone so it won't boot. I don't think burning out the board is much more of a risk than a microwave for 4-5 seconds. What if his cable lights on fire, then his carpet, etc..
It's a stupid point to argue.

Love this thread.
That's not how you break a phone, THIS is how you break a phone.
No no no, you're breaking it wrong!
I should take it to AT&T and ask them to activate it. "sir, this is a Verizon phone"
"no it's not"
"yes, it is."
"look you idiot, it as your effing name comes up when you turn it on"

HELP with a black screen BRICK with 6 lines of red text

I think that i corrupted my Captivate as I was ODIN one clicking myself out of a ROM that i didn't like and lost connectivity via USB. Not looking too good now.. the screen is black with 6 lines of numeric text in red.
Windows is not handshaking with the hardware and nothing is registering on the captivate either.
Been poking around doing some reading on how to fix but I cant get it past the brain barrier enough to understand how I can fix anything that doesn't even recognize one another in a pair.
Baby steps asking for help on this one.
Y!S
TEXT READS:
RST_STAT =ox1
PWIC_IRQ1 =0x3c
PWIC_IAQ2 =0x0
with the last two lines reading this:
PWIC_STATUS1 =0xc0
PWIC_STATUS2 =0x2c
The device was disconnected when the little yellow man with a shovel warned me "DO NOT DISCONNECT"
I have fresh installed Odin. Removed my SIM and Battery. I start Odin then while holding just the volume rocker I plug my Captivate into the computer.
The phone is not powering on nor is it showing the 6 elusive lines of code.. Will try again in 20 min.
Am I missing anyhting?
ok i unplugged it once from odin, and this is what i used, unplug phone, take out battery sd card sim, and wait 10 sec. open odin, connect phone via usb, press volume up/down and power, insert battery and let go of the power button ONLY!! hold the volume up and down still. you should now be in download mode. if this doesnt work there should be another way. ill try to find it again.
Okay I amazingly enough took the battery and sim out. plugged into my comp while holding JUST the volume rocker down then slipped the battery into the cap and it got me to the DOWNLOADING screen..(that i havnt seen for over 24 hours!)
NOW the problem is that ODIN3 1 click downloader (that has been pre programed does NOT give me a yellow Com port BUT.
The full ODIN3 program does.
I need help with finding the files that I should be pointing all of the blank perameters into.
if anyone can help me with FLASHING my Captivate with the FGULL ODIN3 program for Captivate I would be ever grateful!!!!!
please take a minute to help and you could be part of HISTORY!! a fully bricked captivate comes back alive!!
thanks in advance!

[Q] I broke everything...

So, I can no longer even get to the download screen on my Fascinate.
It won't connect to Odin, or even (long shot, I know) to Kies. I've tried the "remove sd, sim and battery, plug in, hold volume buttons and reinsert battery" technique. All that happens is I get a little "device not connected to PC" icon (there is no text, just a pic of a device, an error triangle, and a PC).
When I try to connect to the PC without powering on (to charge the battery), the loading spinner comes up and the device freezes.
Any ideas? I think I might be screwed, here...

Phone should still be under warranty, as long as you're the original owner on the original account. Take that ***** back.
It would be useful to know exactly what action you think killed it.
The error you describe sounds exactly like you tried to boot after an incomplete or incorrect Odin.
Actually killing download mode for real is extremely rare, so it would be helpful to know how you did it.
Battery is totally optional for download mode.
1. Pull battery (to be sure phone is off). Leave the sd card alone.
2. Plug into pc, while holding down vol - (do not let go ever unless you see a yellow triangle)
3. If nothing happens, press power until you see any screen activity.
Just posting in case it is helpful, chances are download mode got your device to where it is now.
Swyped w/ XDA App. When in doubt, mumble.

Original owner on original account, but rooted the phone and failed flashing the firmware (connection got interrupted mid-flash). Think warranty will still cover it? I'm with Telus in Canada.

Absolutely nothing happened. Phone was off, battery pulled. Left the sim out, didn't touch the SD card. Plugged it in while holding vol - (then repeated this with vol +, vol + and -), tried the power button - absolutely no screen activity. It appears I done killed it but good. D:
Thanks for trying though.

Yeah, at the time I didn't realize there was a difference between the two. Ah well, lesson learned.
Yet another reason for splitting the forums. Not sure how many more of these posts will be required before the mods take some action, but hopefully they will see your post and your phone will not have died in vain

please help dead phone

Doesn't power on at all, tried 3 botten /w battery in and out tried two w/battery in and out. I had this happen before and someone help me.

seens a hard brick. what u did to get this?
Try taking out the battery, starting Odin on your computer, plugging the phone into the usb cable connected to the computer, and while holding both the up and down volume buttons stick the battery back in to get into download mode. From there you should be able to Odin back to stock.
If that doesn't work you're SOL. You'll have to do what was suggested in your thread in general.
Sent from my ZenDroid using XDA Premium App
If you truly are hard bricked you are gonna need to find a JIG because that's the only way out of that. Other wise take your battery out god down the volume keys and put it back in and you should see the download screen. If you don't somthong deeper is wrong.

You need to purchase a (JIG) like the previous member suggested and try getting in download mode, you can buy one on eBay for about $3 simply search for (Download Mode USB Jig for Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant). I hope this helps.
have odin up pull out your battery plug usb into phone then hold power and volume down and insert battery at the same time this should get you into download mode. It may take 3 or 4 tries to get it. you have to pull battery before plugging mini usb into phone and must do the button combo and while inserting battery it would be easier being an octopus to do this but it should work if it doesnt you will need a jig. It is very hard to fully hard brick vibrants keep trying this method it took me 5 times to get into download. search the vibrant forums for odin for noobs it will give you links to all files you will need to get back to stock and start over. pm me if you need further assistance.
thank you, still trying but no luck. Im going in for surgery for my cancer so wont have much time on the phone for a wile
It's Hard Brick. Dont waste your money on JIG, it does nothing. You have to JTAG to recover Bootloader on your phone

Last night I was bale to get into the download mode and then I started downloading Gingerbread. Now my phone is not powering up. I called up samsung and as it under warranty, they are ready to fix. My problem is they will find out what I was doing and this might breach some samsung regulation. not sure???
I would like to know what should I do for getting my phone power on or in download mode. I have tried all the above mentioned steps, but it just not works. Duh!!

well are you trying yo get out of download mode or want something more? if you just want to get out of it just turn off the phone by pressing all buttons for a while it'll turn off.
try tot method at download mode and just plug in your cell phone (not usb). Try it when you have more juice(%15min)
