Hey everybody
I have an annoying problem with my htc magic 32a (proximus). When I connect it to the computer I don't see anything on the computer. My magic doesn't show a popup or something that I can choose from. It only charges. I can get into fastboot and see my S/N when I do "fastboot devices". When i boot to recovery mode the computer says the usb device stopped or something. Even when I set ms-usb I can't access my µSD card. I can't install drivers or whatever.
The problem just began from one day to another. I don't remember installing special apps or something. I tried another ROM but that didn't work either.
I searched the net and found solutions for the desire, wildfire, ... but not for the magic. I found this topic h**p://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/7055-htc-magic-usb-brick/ and h**p://code.google.com/p/cyanogenmod/issues/detail?id=1326] but the solutions of restarting when connected and others didn't work. Since the day I lost usb I could never connect with the pc anymore. I really love usb tethering and that was one big benefit. Now I can't do that anymore.

Do you have another usb cable to test with? it sounds like your problem could be as simple as a bad wire. mini usb also fits in the mt3g

Yes I tried a couple of usb's. Also different computers and OS'es (Vista and 7). I tried to restart when attached, when not attached, ... I tried allot of things but none of them seem to work.

I take it that you have "USB debugging" checked under "Programs" in settings?
Thx fregor. Unfortunately I already did that. I can't get it to work, only in fastboot. Its really weird... I now use aNetshare with freeyo, but I'd like to transfer files with USB and so on. I hope somebody knows a solution to my problem!

I didn't have any USB connexions anymore on my 32a magic.
In fastboot, no problems.
But with any rom (myhero, GyD, Cyanogen), no USB available !
I don't have the USB mount notification on magic, and have an "unknown usb device" notification on xp.
But the Sd card is ok.
How can I fix it ?

I checked PID and VID. Both are 0x0000 ! (unknown device)
It sounds like an hardware trouble, but why is it ok in fastboot mode ?
I have exactly the same problem on my 32B... since I bought the phone(second hand), that it has this problem, I have been looking everywhere and I got no answer...
I read somewhere that flashing the SPL could solve the problem, but I haven't tried it.
I flashed to SPL 2010 yesterday... no improvements.

Humm, thats bad news
I have the same problem on my MT3G after the motherboard on my gaming rig blew, the phone just went dark and it also destroyed my usb jump drive that was plugged in next to it. It (usb jump drive) was really hot to the touch when I pulled it out. I smelled something burning from inside the computer, I never did figure out what it was. Now when I plug the phone into my loptop all the phone does is charge, the computer wont see it and neither does the phone ask to mount. The sd card is still good but now I either have to use a card reader or transfer files through bluetooth.
I wiped, formatted, "mount usb" through the recovery, flashed different roms, nothing works. I guess I damaged the circuit board or the usb port somehow. I wanna call Tmo for a warrenty replacement but then Ill have to flash back to the original spl and ROM. I dont really want to go through the rooting process again. Is there a way to find out for sure if it is the software or a hardware issue? Like some kind of test through the terminal?

Humm, that means that we might have something "fried" on our phones
The weird thing is that I can access usb through fastboot... Are you able to use fastboot on your phone?
It really would be interesting if there was any way to check if it really is an hardware problem or software problem.

If we can access USB in fastboot, it sounds like a software problem to me.
But after trying several roms and spl, no changes.
I would try to flash a new SPL, but if I do that I won't be able to put back the original SPL and may not take it back to HTC and repair it under warranty... I will wait about a week or so, put back as it was originally, and send it back to HTC and see if they will repair it.
Game Over for me !

That's weird, what spl have you used and what was your initial spl? How did you flashed that SPL?
I tested all SPL I think !
But the last i tried sould be 1.33.2004.
Now, phone locked on TIM logo screen, impossible to go into fastboot or recovery, even with unbrick hacks found on the forum
If it gets to the operate logo, I guess that you should be able to get to recovery rom...
Can't you get to hboot mode(volume down + power on) , or to fastboot mode(back + power on)?

I have a weird USB problem on my Vodafone HTC Magic. I can't use it as a mass storage device when I connect it to my laptop. When I connect it to a windows machine, it just give some error saying that the installation of the device has failed and nothing from there.
While connecting it to a Linux machine, nothing happens, nothing is mounted, and no new device is created. Also, lots of errors shows up on syslog...
I can not also use the adb tool to communicate with the phone, since it doesn't find the phone...
I though it could be an hardware problem, but the weirdest thing is that I can access the phone using the fastboot method with no problem, I have already changed the bootsplash image using the fastboot to check if it was really working, so, I guess its not na hardware problem.
The phone had the 1.33.0007 original SPL, now is with the eng 1.33.2005 SPL and running the latest CyanogenMod. I have tried tons of roms, but the problem persists in every rom I tried...
Does any one has a problem like this one?
Is there anything I can flash to put the phone completely stock, just as it came of the factory? I now that the roms that we flash, usually are missing some things, like the Radio and some other stuffs... Maybe those some other stuffs are some what "crazy" and need to me flashed again.
Note: I can not get the phone to warranty since I have no the receipt of buying the phone...

Did you install SDK and install the appropriate USB drivers? Sounds like that could be your problem.
Yeah, I did installed the sdk...
Also, I tried a friends HTC Magic on my linux machine with the same cable, and it worked ok...
Finally I found some guys with the same problem as me, although its on HTC Hero, the problem is very similar. Michael S on Modaco already solved is problem by running some weird, hidden and undocumented commands of fastboot.

Recently my HTC Magic (Rogers) has been unable to connect to my computer in anyway. I was never able to connect my phone with my computer through ADB (I could mount my SD through my USB though) until a couple of days ago when I was attempting to get the USB drivers to work. They worked for one day... The next day when I tried connecting my phone to my computer a "USB Device Not Recognized" notification came up on my computer and I am no longer able to connect to the phone through ADB or though just mounting the SD card through the USB. When I try to bring up the fastboot menu on the phone the screen comes up and the notification changes from "Fastboot" to "Fastboot USB" then instantly freezes up. I've been trying to get it to work for most of the day and at one point I got ADB to recognize the device however along with the serial number for the phone it also listed the phone as "offline".
Anyone got any suggestions on how to fix this? ._.

ROM: v2.0 (FroyoRider - CM-6.1.0-RC0-DS base - nightly build 17-Sept-2010):
I installed this ROM a week ago, everything was fine(except for a couple screen-wakeup issues) until today. I was running low of battery (did not drain) so I decided to plug it into my charger, nothing happened, no amber LED, no on-screen charging animation on the notification bar, nothing. I tried the A/C charger, then the USB charger (and a couple USB cables too). No avail.
I replaced this battery with another one, but still the same issue. When I booted my other sapphire with this battery, it did work and showed full charge (since I left the phone on USB for sometime).
So the battery is actually charging, but does not show on-screen, nor does it connect with the comp. via USB (no sync) , I tried to boot into recovery mode and enable USB-MS.. still can't connect.
Thought this was a ROM issue and flashing another one would fix it, I decided to go back to my old eclair by allen, but fastboot didn't work for me to revert back to 3.22 radio (waiting for device error).
Any of you guys ever faced something like this? Any help would be much appreciated. Sorry for such a long post. Wanted to explain as much as possible.

There is always a possibility for hardware malfunction!
But try to download a rom which uses the new radio combo... like capychimps rcmagic v6 or the supereclair....
Copy it manually to the sdcard and flash it from there!
Thanks for the reply, mumilover, I tried flashing another ROM, boots up fine, still the same charger issue.. battery actually charges, no USB connectivity, no on-screen indication of charging. What hardware malfunction could actually cause this?

Hi, I have a problem installing a sense Ul, that is, I connect everything and run RUU and after approximately 1 min checks expel me that I was not connect phone with laptop( win 7), and before that I try to sync manager and everything works, that is connected,and maunt sd card is working normaly so I wonder whether someone accidentally have similar problems?
