Best 2.1 rom? Yea 2.1. - Epic 4G General

As the title says. I've decided to stay on 2.1 after bricking my epic twice. Everytime I wanted to flash back to 2.1 the phone bricks one way or another. So I fgured id stay on 2.1 till sprint releases 2.2 and the devs get the source code. That to me equals more stable roms. Anywho for the time being i wanna use the "best" 2.1 rom. Any suggestions?

Try posting this in the general section so you don't get yelled at...
I've been on 2.2 for a while and everyone I use works fine, sorry you are having problems.

The big question is why did you post this here. I know its very difficult to post in the correct section. No wonder you bricked twice.

Your liberal use of the word 'bricked' is really annoying. If you TRULY bricked your phone you would have a $500 paperweight.

So true! Hahaha

Lol. Whenever I head "bricked" I think, "You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means."

I did truly brick it the first time. No response no nothing no download mode no recovery. Sprint replaced it no questions asked the second time I was able to fix it. Anywho that's beside the point. I came in and asked a rom related question and instead of any sort of advice I got flamed. Seems like its a trend round here.

i like the topic of this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=871996

Syndicate ROM 1.02 There's three flavors, light, standard, and full. Just read the ROM's thread and decide which is best for you. The differences are only the APKs that it comes with.
For me, I went with full. Some tweaks you'll want to do to the ROM:
-Update the ROM to use its latest custom kernel.
-Update to the latest wireless tether apk
-If you have wifi in most places where you take your phone, then configure wifi to always on. The battery lasts so much more.
I hope this helps.

I am currently using epic experience. Very stable and with the Lucy kernal fantastic battery life. About 15-20 hours per charge with usage and data off when not using it. That's my 2 cents. Hope it helps. Also has tw 3.0 if you like tw like I do.
Fyi I'm sitting at 21 hours and still have 40% battery left after calls, text and internet still going strong.

Rom: Never stock, but always with some Gingerbread.

Well I can't move this thread, or I would. Enough about that though. Opinions will always vary on whos rom was the fastest for 2.1. I myself personally thought the most responsive, quickest rom was Herver's Rom (regardless if you love/hate him) but I also had lovely stability with the Epic Experience for 2.1. Both of those Roms treated me well. I just thought Herver's 1.6 release was much faster than any other 2.1 I had used. Hope this helps.
Epic experience is in our Dev forums right here (make sure you get the 2.1 version not the Dk28 2.2 Version) and if you want to check out Herver Rom just Google "Baked Snack 1.6"
Now someone move this thread plz. Lol.

Then use your new found skills to search for the stickies at the top of the development section.

Please post questions in the General section.
Also a quick note, there is such thing as a soft brick and a hard brick. They are 2 different terms and can both be shortened to "Brick."

Baked snack is the best overall 2.1 rom. Best battery life of them all. The guy got banned from XDA but you can download it from bakedsnackshack. Com

+1 on baked snack

2.1 has a few choices of not only roms but kernels too.
Its been awhile running 2.1 but I switched between Epic Experience and Syndicate Rom with Xtreme Kernel.
The performance between the kernels seemedto vary depending on which cpu govenor they used.

G2 ROMs

Ok obviously we don't have any now, but I wanted to get the ball rolling.
The only rom I personally would like is a vanilla one with all the google stuff not pre installed!

I want the Desire Z rom, never played with sense, would like to try it out
I want a Gingerbread ROM. What's the hold up guys?? Come on already! hehe
Seriously, though. Vanilla, pre-rooted 2.2.1 with tethering/hot-spot would be sweet.
Cyanogen Rom pls
Desire Z ROM please, rooted!
Just Got My Phone And Its A Really Smooth Phone.
I have have The G1, MT3G Slide, and now the Android G2.
The G2 is way smoother then all of the rest.
I would just like all the google crap removed.
I want CyanogenMod and be able to tether
Vanilla is fine with me, I just want root to run Wireless Tether
Usb tether(not pdanet) would make me happy, that's the only reason I root.
Sent from my T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide using XDA App

All if you guys think like me
@tubaking
Usb tether is cool, but why not wireless tether like the one that's available on the google codes page?
@PolishDude @SuperDave81 @RaffieKol
If I could try the Desire rom with all the bloatware removed, I'm game because I absolutely love sense. I went and downloaded Beautiful Widgets along with Beautiful Live Weather just so I can somewhat emulate the HTC Sense Weather/Clock
@f231f
I am definitely feeling a vanilla rom, no google stuff unless I want to install it and root so I can install Wireless Tether from google

If this was the wrong place to post this then I apologize and would greatly appreciate it if a mod would move it to the correct section. As far as the developers not liking what is being said here, they don't have to do it. This forum isn't one dictating what they should do, but merely what we would like to see done. Regardless of what they put out, people will flash their roms. I seriously don't think that they would get offended over what was said here.

I never said they would be offended. These Dev's do this on their free time and starting a thread asking for what people want in a ROM for a phone thats yet to be rooted is not to bright. Focus on rooting the phone first, because with out root devs cant make roms for it. From what Ive seen some Dev's start to feel unappreciated when people ask for so much, some people don't understand that this isn't the Dev's day job. its a past time activity for them.

I never said it was their day job nor did I say it was something that is owed to us. If developers have issues with us saying what we want in a rom, they wouldn't ask us for our suggestions and heed them when we make them. So you, who aren't the mouth piece for developers, should let them speak for themselves concerning their feelings about their roms. And for you to say that me creating this post about what people would like to see in a rom isn't "bright", well that remark wasn't bright seeing as this is an open forum and I can create topic(s) about anything I want so long as it fall under the sites guidelines. If you have an issue with what's being said here, then don't post here. If you have absolutely no desire of anything specific in a rom, then why waste your time coming to a post pertaining to that? If your a mod, then delete the post, if not, then I am going ask that you stop posting comments that don't pertain to the topic at hand.

well how about that sexy desire z 10second boot time, on a modified stock g2 rom with the usual cyanogen speed increases that we always get and tethering.. anything else can be done with an app or home replacement, this phones plenty fast.. once we get rooted, overclock to 1ghz and just wait for faster roms lol this threads pointless as we dont even have a root right now.

Epic 4G FroYo leaks

http://www.engadget.com/2010/11/12/android-2-2-update-for-samsung-epic-4g-leaks-out/
Is this enough to get going on a FroYo port for the Fascinate? Admittedly I don't understand the whole kernel-ROM set upo and what it really means, but since this is same hardware (sort of), is this enough to begin the good development on our phones? Just curious.
Do yourself a favor and change user names because I'm sure you aren't going to like the response that is soon to come. This general question has been asked a few dozen times in different forms...always with the same result. Pissed off devs. It will be here when there is a post containing a download link.

Because the galaxy s variants in the us are all very different from one another. For example, the epic gas a front facing camera and a slide out keyboard compared to the fascinate. The only two which are practically identical are the mesmerize and the fascinateas far as I know.

Has a loooooooooooooooooooong history of stepping on the toes of the CM team, team douche, and any dev he can steal work from. Check out his website. Shameless.
He's out for the donations, that's about it.
I downloaded and tried to run 'CM7'. There was a few errors upon flashing and a few things didn't work and lots of functionality was missing. I restored my nightly #184 w/ invibilek #18. Thanks for the headsup.
Hi all! New to the forum, but not android in general. And am eager to dive into the clockwork behind this phone, and what makes it tick. Also, on the wife's Aria.
Anyway, I've had android power for about a year and have known about the Cyanogenmod rom since cm5. And judging on how much buzz there was around cm6 coming out, it seems to me we would've heard a little more about cm7 being released til now, IMO. Now, I may be wrong, and if so I apologize, but I think the main man himself would've waited til a stable RC, then come out with it across the board, not a nightly "progress" build so everyone can flash into a bootloop. That's what rom manager pro is for!
Besides, tonight is the first time I've heard of cm7. I may be way over the line, I apologize in advance. After we all do have opinions...

There is a difference between compiling the most recent source code on github (RC0), and an official release. Anyone can compile, but only the CM team can release stable RCs (RC1 and up) and final builds.
CM7 isn't really CyanogenMod yet, as we know it on CM6. All of the little goodies are yet to be merged, it's mostly just an effort to get supported devices stable at Gingerbread. I'm running it on my nexus, and it's pretty sweet.
Oh, I understand. I knew I should've kept my mouth shut, lol. Nevertheless, I'm not flashing any gingerbread til its further along, I.e. optimizing not stabilizing. Who knows when that'll be though. I think I'll just wait til it officially drops.

Flash-aholic Anonymous tread

So I decided to start this tread for all of us that are addicted to flashing Roms thanks to Eugene, Master, Heathens, and specially Team Whiskey.
I got my first taste of a Froyo Rom back in October and I've been hooked like a crack addict! Lol!
Although I've never tried crack I can only image how they feel!
I check in with my XDA app more than I do my girlfriend, waiting and hoping for that new Rom to flash just to get that fresh Rom high! Lol!
Any themes that come up I flash just because I have a need to flash something.
Team Whiskey has the best stuff so anything new from them I just gotta have. I can only imagine what I'm going to do when they have Gingerbread for my phone!
They say the first steps to recovery is to admit you have a problem and to identify the source!
My name is Victor and I'm a flash -aholic thanks to my Vibrant and all the developers at XDA.
So the rest of you guys just like me admit your addiction so you can feel better and we can all work on our problem together!

In the past four days I have flashed nero 4, 4.1. M9,M10, pepperkake, and modded and morphed all of them fully.
Running nero 4.1 + DoW now, and I'm thinking about modding gingerclone and M10 beta 4 with dragon and DoW kernals.
Nero+DoW *vibrant*
I'm Glensta - Newcomer flash-a-holic. Since the vibrant came out, I've bricked a total of 6 vibrants. I returned 4 to 1 store, telling them "I don't know what happened?" Then that store refused anymore returns, so I found a different store that'd take back my 5th vibrant.....Finally, my 6th vibrant came from t-mobile cust. svc with some routine questions being asked by the rep. Now I'm good at "download" mode finally.
I did use one of my family member's upgrade (hell - they said they won't use it - so why not) and bought me a little cheapie phone just in case I brick again.
Flashing's fun w/ friends
Hi, my name's Steven, and I've been a flash-a-holic for about a year, when I first met that green robot Andy. Currently I'm waiting for a fix for the FFC so I can mod my phone even more. I like it a lot. Unfortunately my sole criteria in evaluating a ROM anymore is how long it takes until I get my first random shutdown. I'm now into the end of a second full day and knock on wood, it has not turned off yet. The speed, with Voodoo, is comparable or faster than Axura. The one 2.2 incarnation series I have never used is Nero, for whatever reasons, not sure? The aesthetics are fine for me. I know the thread has said there's an issue with the "Ambient Launcher" which I do not use anyway, so, it's great in my opinion. I'm not sure I read anything about any other issues. RC2 apparently is now out, but I am staying put on the "it ain't broken" theory. I may not even try 2.3 when it comes out. I'm hoping to be cured from the addiction by then (yeah, right).
Ever since i figured out how to break into my perfected SPL mytouch3g, I can't help but check the various forums for just another ROM to try. I now have a haxsung vibrant as my main with my mytouch 3g(super-F) in my coat pocket just for such an emergency..
This rom has turned into my favorite. I've got a backup of v3, and this. Seems to be all I need but I do enjoy seein the other versions and how they compare.

Of course I do, but its getting old. The forums are dieing everyone's leaving. We hardly have new development lately. The only thing keeping us alive are Cyanogenmod, MIUI, Explodingboy, JCC, and some others I forgot to mention. Everyones gone.

I love my Vibrant, some devs and users are moving on to newer phones and communities, but I dun see the point in it just yet, it's working great and I dun need it to be any faster. It's just right.

I have to agree with you. My phone does everything i need it to. I just got my 1800mah battery a few days ago, so battery life is better. Also just installed v6 supercharger script and the phone is even more buttery smooth. Been checking out the sgs II forums and honestly nothing so far has made me want to change.
I do love my Vibrant.
I was bartending last night and a guy at the bar had a (stock) Sprint SGS2. I played with it for a while, and damn, it was smooth. It did make me feel slightly jealous.
I love mine but I want to change to a newer one.
But alas, I'm stuck here until I get money for a new one.
Im my country, the newest one we have is the SGSII and not only that thing is older than I'm comfortable with (the international version), but also costs 500+ ON CONTRACT.
**** you Orange.
What's v6 supercharger? And can u point me in the right direction. Thanks

I am happy with my vibrant also but I am itching to get that samsung galaxy s2 when I have enough money and when I see it hover around $350 or less on craigslist. Probably have to wait for few more months though.

Its fairly simple. He gives links to all the files and tools you need. The script pretty much tells you what to do.
Unless we have a custom ICS I don't think I'll be leaving my current rom. I'm done with flashing with this phone.

I love my vibrant as well. My only real problem with it is the GPS never worked for crap. Mind you, its a first gen vibrant (i bought it the day it came out). If i could solve the GPS, ill be happy as a pig in... noodles?

try miui 2.3.7 nb version 1.11.4. This version frees up alot of ram.
If i remember correctly you can use this script with any android OS. It automatically recommends the settings based on your phone. Just read thru the OP to be sure.

I bought it when it first came out. GPS didn't work. A few months later I bricked it lol and T-Mobile gave me a new one. GPS works perfectly.

my vibrant has been great, but the writing is on the wall. Gonna wait till the first of next year and see exactly what T-Mobile is pushing. No hurry, MIUI NB, Im good for now.Knowing all the B.S., still take the Vibrant in a do over!!
can't say that i love it, but i think it'll last me another year. i dont see any reason to upgrade yet.
