Hi guys!
My device doesn't connect to my PC anymore, can only charge. The PC gives me a USB error and that's that. No more flashing! aaaargh....
As it still charges I suspect a software error, indeed hope for it. Any ideas?

I have the same issue m8. Have done for several weeks now. No idea whats wrong. I was hoping to flash magdlr via sdcard and hope that would sort it out, but can't. I am also having other issues now too, e.g: excessive battery drain within winmo. When you turn screen off in winmo, it comes straight back on. Poor reception now (with any radio) was working fine before.
Android is now suffering too, poor battery drain(more than normal) poor signal.
Seg
Too bad. None of the other issues with me, though. Tried reflashing from sd, successfully, but no effect on USB, same for bootloader.
you need to give us more info on problem, what error do you get?, does xp try to install usb drivers when you plug in your phone?
Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling your USB drivers / use another PC, cable etc?
Hi
Tried 2 PCs, a Win7 and Ubuntu. Ubuntu just doesn't see anything at all, W7 says a broken device is connected and refuses to proceed. Will do one more experiment and report back later. Thx for your interest
doesn't sound good to be honest. You could try flashing your ROM using your SD card though in the hope it is a ROM problem.
Sounds like a hardware problem to me. Have you tried a different usb cord? If that isn't the problem I'd make sure there aren't any damages prints in the phone's usb port.
Those are the most likely, it's rare that an internal hardware problem would only break part of the usb port

Hello at last some one I can help.......Maybe
I had the same problem, Mine also kept on trying to put me in car kit mode and turning loude speaker on. I think the problem started when I sat on my phone while it was charging. It some how shorted the USB in side the phone and I had to get it repaired under warranty. But.... if you havent got the same car kit problem try really blowing inside the USB normally one of those air cans ive heard has done the trick.

Hi guys
As stated earlier I reflashed off sd, still charge only. Will try one more thing with the W7 PC. Oh, well, no NAND for me...
If you've updated your antivirus or flashed a new ROM, you may need to uninstall your antivirus, connect via usb, and see if your phone is detected by your PC and WMDC. Then, reinstall your antivirus.
Yes the antivirus thing kind of worked.. and btw go for ur stock rom...

have you considered the usb cable. it could be malfunctioning ! try another usb cable. blackberry's usb cable should work just fine.
Hi
Yeah, will have to try cable first, then stock ROM, possibly.
So it was the cable! Whew!

Tried all that mate, ........ At least I learned to flash from the memory card last night LOL,......... seriously though think its broke, its doing the same on 3 different computers with different leads and a flashed a new rom too
Out of curiosity is it charging through usb? I understand you get a connection error but does the status light turn red to indicate it's charging?
Hey
Not sure if this is relevant.
Im using Windows 7 and found that when I plugged my device in, the driver would fail.
If you went START => Printers and Devices, you should see a "storage device" with an exclamation mark. If you right click properties and uninstall the driver, then unplug and plug the HD back in, it picks it up and works till you next remove the device.
This happened with me constantly till I flashed my phone with another ROM, now it seems to work fine???
Hope that helps??
I have exactly your same problem; I've tried with three different computeres running or XP or Vista without any luck; hard resetting my HD several times, changed ROM but with no luck at all; USB now seems to be able only to charge my device. Searching with google I saw some others had this problem but still was unable to solve that issue.
Hope someone will provide us the INSPIRATION to make it work again!
well sounds very much like it's a hardware problem
as in the type one can only hope to fix by replacing the usb connector from the pcb
This likely won't fix your problem, but it's still worth a shot. In the PC to USB menu (different places depending on ROM), I believe the default (especially in the new roms) is set to activesync. This might not play nice with certain PCs that don't have the drivers and maybe aren't allowed to dl new ones. So try to set that to the Hard Drive/mass storage option and see if it helps (no drivers necessary then).
Good luck
thanks but already tied BUT with no luck....dead....only charge available....I even tried deactivating the charge device when connected option, the option work but not the connection......
Ive never had this problem with my HD but have had the problem with many other USB devices, usually its caused by a corrupted USB Driver Stack, and the usual way to fix it is to uninstall the driver and reinstall it, if that dosnt work i would suggest this:
1) Plug in the HD
2) Find the malfunctioning driver and unisntall it
3) Uninstall ActiveSync
4) Install Active Sync
5) Try the HD again
However, because this is happening to multiple computers have you considered the fact that your port on the HD may be dirty, use a cotton swap with an alcohol based cleaner (you can use acetone, but be careful not to touch the plastic parts of your HD it will probably eat it).
Hi!
Ive got a big problem cause my Galaxy S just stopped being recognized by any PC. I dont know whats wrong, it just treats USB cable like it was a charger, PC doesnt detect anything neither does the phone. Its very strange since everything worked perfect for the last couple of weeks. I tried to connect it to a notebook i used to flash the phone a week ago and it has been turned off ever since so it cant be any driver related issue. Im afraid my micro-USB port is damaged but i have a custom firmware in it and since i cant reflash it the warranty isnt vaild ehh...
Any ideas?
THX
silly question...
Do you mount the phone via the status bar after you plug it in?
Thats the point - PC doesnt detect the phone AT ALL theres not even a sound that an USB device has been plugged in. The same thing in the phone it just starts charing it doesnt seem to know that its connnected to PC.
sounds like your PC mobo got the USB port fried.
try turning off the PC, unplug the power cord, wait for the energy to drain out, then turning it back on
my Windows 7 x64 some time does that, but it's not a hardware error
on yours it could either be a hardware dead, or the Windows gone Bezerk as usual
I tried different USB devices - other phones, pendrives and a printer and everything works fine except for the Galaxy S. The Samsungs USB cable also works fine with other phones..
I wrote to Samsung and they said to send them the device because its most probably damaged :\ Will they check the firmware version?
btw. as I said in the first post the phone doesnt work on my notebook as well
I wouldnt care so much about this because I can send files using ftp but I cant change the firmware without an USB port working (or am I wrong?)
I sometimes also have this problem. For me rebooting the phone and if it then doesn't work again using another USB port at my PC solves the problem.
Yesterday when the problem occurred for the first time I removed SIM and microSD cards and PC detected a device but it was recognized as 'unknown malfunctioning USB device' but no luck ever since.
Just to let you know my Samsung just fixed itself 0_o Might have something to do with the Windows reinstallation on my PC but it suddely works on my notebook as well. Im really confused now...
Since upgrading the Galaxy S to 2.2.1 which I absolutely love - must faster than anything previous, sleek, really well done, I've just noticed for the first time that my USB doesn't seem to work.
The computer sometimes sees it but just says the device is malfunctioning, the phone sometimes sees the PC and gives a menu for "ask on connection", but Windows just does not know what this device is at all.
Suspect I may have to reinstall the drivers fully in Windows, remove it completely and try again, if it actually showed up as an unknown device in Device Manager.
I do need to try another PC and cable just in case, but this is what Im having at the moment in Windows:
USB Device Not Recognized
One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it.

I would go with a windows problem and remove the usb drivers/Kies .
Followed by fresh install .

You can find a link to the usb drivers in my signature.
I think its a little more problematic.
I've tried another computer, another OS and another cable no joy.

I've done a quick search on this. Hopefully this is as simple as doing a factory reset and format the internal sd.
If not, then Im off to a samsung service centre I think.
Any further thoughts?

Factory reset the phone, but the USB port still is not working. Charges fine, but don't connect over USB to the PC.
Can it be in debugging mode. Try to switch between mass storage and kies.
Probably you have checked that already..

Now i am looking to install untouched rom in order to give it to service but when i am trying to flash from recovery i get an error . Any suggestions?
This may sound dumb, but it could be the USB port acting up (loose connection). Try wriggling the cable around or use a different port.

Right, I've tried all available USB ports, two different computers, two different OS's. The phone just does not register a USB data connection. It only recognises AC charging according to the logs.
I think I have a broken USB port on the phone as if I jam the connector in at an angle on the phone, it sometimes registers the data connection but its far too unreliable.
Development mode don't work, Kies, Mass Storage etc... anything. Nothing works.
Factory reset doesn't make it work.
I can't even flash a new ROM as the phone is not detected in download mode.
I've got the phone booked in at a Samsung Service Centre now. I've seen a few webpages referencing corrosion. I tell you what though, this phone has been protected way way more than my old N97. I've had so many phones and not one has suffered from "corrosion". So let them just try and say it's my fault. Im ready for em.

Try cleaning your phone usb port. A guy named omersak had the same problem, and he had solved it. Search for the thread started by him, and how he has solved it.
I hope you can solve it without going to the service centre. And good luck.

Definitely trying that first - thank you to all the people that have been doing the investigation.
It sounds to me like Samsung have got a bad batch of USB connectors that should be replaced under a factory recall.
I don't use mine in a shower, or sauna, or anything like that, I don't even use it in the rain.
The closest it gets to any humidity is being in my shirt pocket from time to time.
Im going to get some meths or something like that and some thin paper and see what I can do with that. Im just off to Homebase!
there are similar problems on the galaxy 3 series where usb suddenly stops working. the following solutions seem to work there:
1. dial *#7284# to open "PhoneUtil"
2. in USB section, switch to modem, and then switch back to PDA
if that doesn't work: reboot into recovery and select "wipe cache partition"
*hth*
I've tried both of those before I start splashing the methylated spirit around. Still no joy.
Wipe Cache don't work, as well as wipe data/format sd/restore factory defaults etc.
I think I've got a 100% hardware fault.
@OP,
I am terribly sorry about your case. Looks like you need to make that trip to the service centre.
At least you have tried out every possible means known.

The USB just started working yesterday. Still a bit intermittent, but when it gets a connection, it maintains a connection.

I have a Samsung GT-I9000B and I cant use it using USB.
I have 2 usb cables, I am able to find my friends phones.
Now I cant change rom cause odin cant find it too.
Alog cat shows:
E/MTPRx ( 4020 ) Battery charging. plugType = 1
E/MTPRx ( 4020 ) Not of USB charging. DOnt launch MTP APP
Any suggestion?
I'm not an Expert but 2 hints from me:
1. If you have'nt tried yet: Install usb-drivers on pc new and then connect your phone and wait until drivers are installed to your phone.
One times this way worked on my i9000.
2. Look for a zipped rom on xda which you can directly download and install from sd-card.
Sorry, I know my English is bad.

Hi. I have a problem here. Is it possible to flash new rom directly through bootloader, my activesync is not working properly, and something is wrong with my usb connection - when I connect my device to PC via usb, in bootloading mode - it gets connected and disconnnected about 50 times in one minute, no .RUU is able to recognize it for long enough to complete the instalation. I've tried to reinstall the activesync, did hard reset of my phone, deleted relationships - but no luck. What worries me most is that usb connection problem. It's only with HD2, all other devices connect properly. Anyone knows the answer, what should I do in order to fix that? P.S I always remove sim and sd card, and disable my antivirus programs and firewalls during my flashes....
Bricked it.
And now - I'm stuck...seemed I finally got connected via usb through bootloader for longer than two minutes, so I started fleshing my radio... and it got disconnected after a minute by itself again, in the midllle of the process...Now, there's an upgrade rom code error on green field of my bootloader, telling me to try again, only - I can't do recovery, cause my usb connection gets on/off 50 times a minute, whenever I try to do the recovery .... Any suggestions?
Have you tried another USB port? Perhaps even another computer.
Have you also eliminated the posibility of the cable that you use to connect your HD2 is damaged in some way.....
You can also flash ROM/Radio via SD card......
There is a sticky thread that explains how to do so.....
You basically need to extract the main file from the rom/radio and rename it to LEO.img, place it on the root of your SD card and turn on the phone whilst holding vol. down.
Check this thread for a more complete set of instructions.
Hope that helps......

Have youctried a different USB cable to see if you can keep a connection then? Youmight have a bad USB cable. If trying another USB cable and different USB ports does not help you might have a faulty USB port on your HD2 in that case you can still use your SD card tocflash Windows Mobile ROMs and radios but if you flash a official ROM via SD card it reverts HSPL so be aware of that as you will not be able to get HSPL back if you have a faulty USB port on your HD2. Go to the link to lean about flashing via SD card.

Thanks for replies and suggestions... I did try different usb ports, but haven't try different cable, I'll do that tomorrow, first thing I get myself one. If it is a faulty USB port for your HD2 it can be fixed but by replacing the USB port if needed or just resoldering some on your existing one but from what I read it is really best done by a proffesional, go to the link below and read through thatcthread as you will se what I mean, it is only 3 pages long so read the intior thread it is not much reading.

The easiest way to fix a bad USB port on a HD2 is to replacecthe intior main board.
Thanks for the thread, T-Macgnolia, if it turns out to be faulty usb port on HD2 - I have no intentions to fix it myself, it'll go to service right away ... I do hope it's not, though, as I never had a problem charging my phone, it charged good and fast until this "accident" . I like to believe that it's not gonna take a new motherboard in order to be able to use my phone in the way I used to, and cause of which I'm addicted to it

I hope you don't have to have the main board changed either. Bit know this in the USB port on the HD2 has I think 4 pins in it two are for charging and two are for data and it sounds like your data pinswould be the ones with a issue if your USB port is bad as you still have to wait until you can try a different USB cable. At any rate though I wish you the best of luck.
Ok people, I've sorted it out ... Lucky me - no faulty usb port on HD2, no faulty cable, and, no faulty HD2 ... I've flashed a different radio from sd card, and also rom, and now - connectivity with my pc is - never better ... Even ActiveSync is working like it hasn't been in 6 months, hahahhhh ... Point is - it was my pc punishing me for playing with it's registry, few nights before ... I was really confused, cause HD7 had excellent connectivity with my pc, but HD2 really bad, so I really thought there was something wrong with my beloved HD2 ... Than, I remembered I've messed with my registry the other night, and deleting some non-existing pocket pc paths in it... So, I repaired my windows on pc, and now everything works like a charm .... What can I say - curiosity can have very high price, sometimes .... But - fortunately I'm lucky, as it gets ...
Hey all. Just got my Galaxy S4 today and I was loving everything about it until... right now. For some reason, the darn USB won't stay connected to the computer. It doesn't matter if it's simply plugged into the computer as an "installer" or as a media device. It'll constantly disconnect and reconnect itself, even when I'm not transferring any files.
It's not the my computer/USB ports, either, since I can transfer files between my HTC Thunderbolt and Nexus 7 fine. I've also tested 2 other USB cables and they all behave the same way.
Anyone know what's going on? Did I get a lemon?
No im in the same boat. Was trying ti connect in today. I reinstalled and un installed the drivers about 4 times. Tried un selecting usb debugging in developers menu. Same problem
I have also been dealing with this for a while now. I have Windows 7 64bit and I have reinstalled the drivers many times through Kies and manually. It seems like the problem is getting worse since initially I could do some file transfer through usb if i fiddled with the device (changing usb ports, unplugging it, etc). Now I am hard pressed to get it to show up on the computer through MTP at all.
This is quite annoying since I am developing an android app and I need a usb connection in order to test it. A fix would be awesome.
I just tested on my sister's laptop and it doesn't have this problem. I clicked around the phone, transferred a 10gb movie, and left it plugged in to see if there were any signs of disconnects. None whatsoever. Odd. Maybe Galaxy S4 just doesn't like something with our computers. This is quite annoying.
I have a fresh Windows 7 64-bit partition I installed the other day so I'll test it out on that and report the results later today.

Oops, missed your post. Unfortunately, it disconnects regardless of the phone's state.
My friend's S4 was doing the same thing on his desktop. Every time he would try to transfer pics the phone would disconnect after a few files.
I tried different things from reinstalling drivers to trying to only copy over a couple of files at a time, nothing worked.
Finally I plugged his phone into one of the back usb ports and transferred over 2gb with no problem and no disconnects since.
My guess is the S4 is a power hog and some usb ports just don't supply enough juice. Try plugging it in to a usb port that comes off a motherboard. Don't use the front ports or usb hubs. Hope this helps someone.

I've been trying all kinds of different combinations of USB leads, phone settings and ports all morning and was just about getting ready to start a new Olympic sport of S4 hurling when I came across this post and plugged my USB straight into the back of my machine and it finally works!! Thank you dirrtpoor for your input - a simple fix, but nevertheless it worked.:good:
I suppose it makes sense that a quad core 1.9Ghz phone would be a power hog.
It wouldn't work on my home PC whatever I tried. Front or back USB ports.
On my dads PC sometimes it would display OK and other times "usb device has malfunctioned" (didn't try the rear USB port)
On my work PC it works fine on the rear ports.
I was having the same problem a few days ago, but then I reformatted the SD card, now everything seems OK.
Even the stock gallery app works now...?!

This may be laughably obvious but I'm a former Apple user, which has it's own dedicated USB connector, so I forget sometimes with the Samsung S4, which has a standard (looking) micro USB connector that I need a USB cable that is enabled for syncing as well as charging...not all USB cords with micro connectors on the phone end will carry the data because I imagine Samsung has made their phone's connector require a different wiring in the cable.
I was pulling my hair out yesterday trying to figure out why the computer wouldn't see the phone..then looked at the USB cable and realized I'd plugged a non-syncing cable in. I tried the cable that came with the phone and bingo, worked like it was supposed to.
Hope this helps, sometimes it's the little things we overlook that drive us nuts.
Any way to connect in master storage with out root.
