After updating to 2.2.1 jpy I noticed sharpness of the screen increased. Anyone else notice it ? Was it an improvement by Samsung in the the firmware ?
Nope, can't notice any difference

Yeah . I came from eclair and first what I seen its not so blurry. I think it got darker a little maybe thats it?. But yes , it improved for me too! (Still I have an ignored thread with issues, can you check with your eyes? http://goo.gl/VOqgP )
If you had a replacement kernel before updating, then that might be the cause. For example speedmod kernel removes a lot of excess sharpening.

Dunno what the OP had, but I had stock eclair with nothing

do you guys think we will still have to use a lag fix on a 2.2 rom that has the JIT compiler enabled?
The lag is mostly due to Samsung's poor file system. Unless they fixed it or abandoned it I'm guessing we will still have lag.

Wow. You gotta be ****ting me!
the leaked 2.1 build fixed the lag for me so im guessing yes (if and when 2.2 comes out that is)
No lag i JI6 2.1

Wouldn't the JIT fix the lag though? Or would samsung use their own even in 2.2? (just speculating)

Their FileSystem still sucks. 2.2 with JIT might significantly speed up the phone and take away the noticeable lag, but it will still be crippled in terms of its true functionality.

JIT is CPU based execution while the lag is because of file system writes. they are 2 different things and not connected. If what i heard is correct (and if i'm remembering it correctly), RFS has issues with queuing write commands unlike ext2/3/4.

correct, it's file system related, not cpu related.
There are numerous issues with RFS.
See the following I9000 threads for more information:
lagfix pros and cons - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=777610
discovery of filesystem errors on RFS - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=797650
sync issues with RFS - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8445244&postcount=143
In my honest opinion, when does Samsung consider the cost benefit of maintaining this proprietary filesystem versus using "stock" ext*fs? At what point do they swallow their pride and realize their filesystem isn't ready for production?
hey guys, the quadrant score my rooted froyo i5801 is only a pathetic 289.... is there something wrong with my phone? any ways i can make it go higher?

There's loads of "lag fixes" out there, designed to speed up the phone from perceived laginess. Some seem to do nothing more than inflate test score numbers (like Quadrant).
Do not worry about the score of one application. The true tests lie within the hands of the user. Are you happy with the phone? If not, then maybe it's time to upgrade to froyo, or a custom cooked ROM of Froyo.
I'm on designgears Cognition with " Juwe11's Ram Tweaks " that designgears combined in is ROMS:
The phone is amazing fast snappy and responsive - like never before
the point is : My friend (with sgs 1 ) told me that one of the best RAM tweaks for the SGS1 (dont know which one?) >>> cause dead phones after few months ?
I'm 100% confidence on designgears judgement & "cooking" !
but...any one knows what was it all about ?

this tweak is amazing!
As with any RAM overclocking you will see an increased temperature which puts more strain on the components. This can obviously cause them to fail in the long run. And taking into account that the our S2s aren't exactly no water cooler to begin with I'd say it is plausible.

First of all it was never ram tweak that caused sgs to die but rather ext2 tweak on bell sgs and froyo update that increased write speeds that killed external memory (burned the io?) in droves till Samsung/bell made a patch for it in the form of modified secondary bootloader.

Guys i have good news the samsung galaxy sl gets more quadrant than the S
on same tweaks
proof:watch this video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WXk84fKXAVQ&feature=colike
o f.... I have to commit suicide
same specs on both but diffrent gpu/cpu, and honestly i prefer super amoled before super lcd
sl did not had a lock on gps - the gps icon blinked on both = gps deamon was still searching fix means you gd preloaded location on sl - changing ntp server basicly does not impact gps performance
galaxy s on some shoots seems to have autobrighteness on so screen goes darker
Galaxy sl is trim down version of galaxy s i9000 so even if it gets 100000 quadrant score still it can't beat super amoled screen and hummingbird processor in real world
No both were at full brightness it's an unbiased review we in the end we conclude that s is better but i was surprised sl got a better score in quadrant

i would like to see cfbench runed on both - ofc clean phone, latest stock firmware no rooting no kernels nothin
and a real gps test comparisment of both lined on window ledge (because none will fix indoors) with wirless networks aiding deactivated
best would be first gps run after flashing stock firmwares for both

In the first the sl had a beta gingerbread tom which had a bug where quadrant and other application never made use of,in the second a fixed firmware is used and cf root is applied on both, if u still have trouble believing me FYI the slowly uses a omap similar to the droid x,as we all know a stock droid x has been getting a better score than the s you can observe that in the comparison chart by quadrant,as with your query ill be making a part 3 soon with cf bench.
Sent from my GT-I9003 using XDA App
and please not root at all - cfroot also aplies some tuning on the flash
just pure stock
Oh my god, it's such a dumb-a$$ rewiev, bad english and even worse cam. And it's all just a difference in the firmware. If you trimm the galaxy with a custom rom and may overclock your phone to 1,6ghz then you will get 3600+ in quadrant, does it matter? no, quadrant isnt a real benchmark with that you can compare a phone, its just image, nothin less.
And the sgsl has a super-lcd screen, which totally sucks true story Super-AMOLED ist the superior type of display.

Well dude, sry for being so unfriendly Wasnt meant that way Of course you could improve your english a bit by stayin in contact with english-speaking people Thats my way to improve the language.
But actually its all up to the firmware of the phone. one year ago sgs was so bad in quadrant. It had always something about 800-1000 points. Not more. But with some work on the firmware by the sammy dev's they improved the jit compiler and now the phone beats even the nexus one and so on on the scale. I had my phone powered up to 3600 score with using darkys rom and a great kernel (1,6ghz). But actually it doesnt really matter...
The most important thing is, that you can use your phone as you want If your sgsl doesnt lag, its great. But the development is a little bit slow atm.
ciao dude
Yawns, I enjoy my Galaxy S gingerbread speed. If it'd go any faster, I'd have to run (and recharge the phone even more often).
Hey!
I've tested both kernels already.. i want to know if there is anything that one perform better the other or something like that..
What do you think:
IMO Glados is more stable than matrix ATM also i think matrix is built off glados it has all its features but tweaked by matchkid
matrix reboots regardless of OC and glados im able to OC up 1.4 without increasing voltage without reboots. Once Pete tweaks his kernel with OC and voodoo colors ill be jumping ship. i used his his GB with absolutely no issues
Edit
Too be fair I haven't tested new matrix
I see.. and what abt CFS vc BFS?
And btw on every rom i've tested, when im at lockscreen and press the power button to turn screen off, there is some green flash on any kernel but stock.. anyone has the same? no big deal but just wondering..

This problem is related to Voodoo Colors. Stock kernel does not have it.
so with a stock kernel, there isn't the "green flash" problem, right?
currently I use the Matr1x v13 kernel. If I install GLaDOS, I'll have the same problem?

I'm not sure that it's the kernel 100%. On GB when I ran CM7 with a voodoo kernel I had the green/yellow flicker (if the brightness wasn't at 100%). But when I switched to the GWK74 stock rooted OTA with a Voodoo kernel, that flicker was completely gone at any brightness.

I prefer GLaDOS to Matr1x but Matr1x is not built off GLaDOS. The other kernel devs have accepted Ezekeel's MODs. That's GPL, open source.
I'm running GLADOS @ the moment. Everything looks good, but I do get the green flicker but I'm sure this is normal on every Kernel w/ Voodoo.
However, when I correct my colors through Voodoo, it's not saving upon reboot. It goes back to the default 2.3.3 crap colors. Any words of advice or anyone sharing similar experiences?

From what I've seen CFS is more stable than BFS.
Most devs request you swap back to CFS if BFS is FC-ing a lot.
Pretty sure it's only more stable because it's more common.
From what I've read CFS has more gradual performance increases while BFS relies on more peaks of performance.
What BFS is:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brain_Fuck_Scheduler
Update
Glados 2.3... quicker than previous builds even though no mention of performance increase
this kernel is noticeably quicker than his other kernel and IMO quicker thann other kernels and smooooth also got rid of the occasional slight lag when accessing launcher
BTW im using cfs
