As we don't have a nand rom currently which is supporting extended batteries (2300mha), I'd like to start this thread to provide some information about releases, which do.
This can help all HTC extended battery (2300mha) users as they don't have to go through the flashing process first only to see that extended batteries aren't supported.
If anyone has a nand release which is ready for original HTC extended batteries, you are of course welcome to post this release.
Actual status
- 15.01.2011: Releases are available, but support is not 100% yet, battery drops very fast from 100-60%, stays there and drops again.
- 09.02.2011: check this thread with a modified kernel from arne182 who fixed the rapid drain from 100-60% with extended batterys. It's currently in testing but if this kernel works as expected, we will have a fully working extended battery support finally.

Notice to this release: This release also suffers from the 100%-60% battery drop behaviour, so support is not at 100% actually.

I've been using [Dec 30][NAND] CMN 6.1 v1.02 [RMNET] [SMARTASS] [Kernel: Hastarin 8.6 Custom] for a day now, it works fine. Look for the Hastarin Kernel based roms, they're the ones with beta eb support.

I have a 2400 MAH extended battery with kickstand cover. Cheapest one they sell on Ebay for $12. I can confirm it works with NAND Desire HD, and Deisre roms. Nothing special booted up with no issues. Probably doesn't help but indeed some do work.

Remember the cheap batteries don't need the eb kernel, only the official one from htc.
AFAIK, there's no support for the OFFICIAL one yet.

As mentioned above, it works for me, and YES I am using the 2300mah official extended battery. The other ones do not require a modified kernel, but this one does, and so far, only hastarin's modified kernel by ocm has this support.
This might work for all builds: [JAN 01][KERNEL][NAND] Stock kernel with a few fixes. It may have the eb battery support patch included from hastarin's kernel.
Edit - Ok, scratch that, OP mentioned that it doesn't have the patch.

The problem with the CMN 6.1 v1.02 build is:
The battery percentage drops from 100% to ~60% in about 20 minutes, which is insane. Then it stays at 60%-55% much longer.
I tried to compile Hastarin's eb kernel with NAND changes...but with no luck. Whenever I insert the extended battery my Android keeps shutting down itself...
I hope somebody releases a NAND kernel with proper eb support.
i can use any of the builds as long as i use the Hastarin Kernel..

true true.. but at least kernels can be changed and you can then expand the amount of builds that EB users can run, as changing kernels for NAND builds isnt as easy as SD... I have my EB constantly in my phone and loathe going back to my regular battery..

I always thought, this issue was related to some apps I recently installed. But with your confirmation it's hard to call this release "proper working with extended batteries"
In the last days I really learned to hate this android shutdown behaviour. A kernel with compiled eb kernel in it, would really be a good solution. Sad to hear it didn't worked
I think we'll have to wait for Hastarin to return and to provide a new NAND kernel with his changes included.
Let's hope for the best, currently NAND with extended battery isn't really fun at all.

Hi Guys,
Has anyone tried the latest GIT kernel?
I installed the latest (as of last night) and have yet to experience any issues with unresponsive screen, SOD etc. It also seems that the touch response is much better also. Though Battery life seems to have suffered a little.
It's benching at over 1400 on Quadrant with no overclock (performance profile Min/Max at 998400 on setcpu)
I'm still using Darkstones original HD2Froyo build. Just as a side on this, does anyone know if it's possible to get Video Recording working on this build? It's my favorite build of the lot and don't want to change it (unless there's a build similar out there but more upto date?) Not used Winmo for so long now

I'm not sure about this latest kernel, but as far as the kernel in shubcrafts build I've been able to play with video. Actually, I've had it for a while now. Not 720p but comparable to winmo's video capabilities. You should try upgrading and see how you like the newer ones, especially one that is cm6 frg33 as it's the newest froyo update. You should be happy with it.

Yeah i know in some builds the Video does work, but i've tried several other builds and none are as good as this one imo, i dont want any of the customisations, themes etc that people are cooking into them, i just want just stock Froyo. I did like one of the Cyanogen builds (bangsters maybe, cant remember!) but the keyboard had been changed and i didnt like it.
Anyway give the Kernel a go, i've not had a single screen freeze or SOD yet with it, it's woken up instantly every time, tested while walking a few times. And everything feels a lot more responsive...

That does appear to be the latest one. I havn't used these for a while as have been using Michyprima's kernels, but after the last one lasted me 4 whole hours battery wise i decided to try the GIT build and this is great so far..

on all android roms use the michyprima r11 kernel for extended batteries.
(many options for the type of rom) i have personally had some weird issues, but they all work out in the end.
as far as for the evo based roms. i tried the michyprima evo kernel (experimental) but i couldnt get wifi to work, everything else was fine. PPP speeds, very stable.

you can add the kernel yourself.
replace the zimage included in my previous link and boot up, then replace the .ko files in system/lib/modules. then reboot.

There were a couple of diffs requests for michyprimas kernels but it seems that he is not watching the forum these days, maybe he's busy with school or other RL stuff now.
I wouldn't think to be incredibly hard to take apart one of the ROM's that works with it and use that for the others...
Maybe I'm wrong though.

I just received the HTC extended batter w/ cover.. I am running Android on my HD2 (ROM: CMYLXGOs.Droid.BlueTopia.v1.0.4.7z with Updated Kernel to Hastarin r8.5.3).
But I cannot get my phone to recognize the extended batter.
Can anyone tell me what Rom/Kernel for sure works with the extended battery?
The phone does boot up ok with Android.

Check out the Nexus build page link in my thread; it's supposed to be a good extended battery build.

Also you need the extended battery version of hastarin kernel not the standard version

Nobody has released a kernel with EB support for NAND yet, give it time though --- I think Hastarin is working on one, not completely sure though.

Works "fine" either way, only certain Desire builds when I had SD builds would drain my battery "properly".
I didn't notice a difference between EB and Non-EB kernels, my battery would drain normal speed (as the stock 1250mA) to 0% then turn off the phone then I'd pop the battery out and put it back in and have 60% left.

Interesting. But still not actually supported to work correctly so that you can use the full 2600mah without having to remove and replace the battery. I wonder if we will ever have this type of support for EBs...

The reason they're different from Official EB's is because EB's won't boot without the EB Kernel, only Desire based Roms on SD builds would drain all the way for me, they'd drain normal to 15% then stay at 15% till the actual battery was at 15% and then continue to 0% till it was dead. Haven't found a NAND that does this yet, supposedly it reports battery stats wrong anyway.
I was hoping to install the newest NAND Android build from Sergio76 with the official HTC extended battery. I suppose this combination will not work??

No as there is no kernel support yet
I hope there will be a NAND build soon that does support the original extended HTC battery.

Not really. As far as i know, most 2300mah batteries has a bigger size so there will be a "bump" at the back of your hd2. That is why they are supplied with a suitable back cover!
Just wanted to report back. I have the $13 Singapore 2600 mah battery and it works with MDJ Cyanogenmod 7 v2.6.
I dont even have to remove and replace the battery for it to work. It's not perfect though, it basically runs down normally (slightly faster than I would like) and lasts a full day getting down to a 15% charge. Then it stays at 15% for another entire day and then discharges normally from there.
With all the progress that has been made on Android for HD2, I feel optimistic that the last several minor bugs will eventually be worked out and the device should function flawlessly.

Backup your data and reformat your SD card then go through the CWM process again. Keep in mind, you need a CWM build to apply CWM Updates/patches.
This is what's highly recommended (and what fixed my CWM problems)

This thread is meant to direct some effort towards building something for us idiots who went and bought this.....probably useless item from ebay.

most builds will support extended battery if you change the kernel using tytung's eb kernel.

Ok still i'm having trouble finding an installation guide for this so i'm still lost.
No 'standalone' rom comes with extended battery support, it's all down to the attatched kernel. There's a difference.
If you have an official htc extended battery, get the above tytung_r2_eb_signed kernel, if not other kernels are supposed to have support for NON OFFICIAL extended batteries, so just try boot up any rom you choose if you have one of these

Try the mentioned tytung one above, its based of hastarins eb kernel but modified for nand builds, I haven't got round to testing it yet so you can let me know how you get on!

I am using MDJs CM7 2.6 Kernal:MDJ 10.4 OC with a non-HTC extended battery.
What happens to me is the battery meter shows degression like a usual battery, but at 15% (and according to the forums some people it is at 11% - but basically around then) the batter meter stops moving for hours!
And if you want to know about how much you have left take out the battery, put it in, and restart, and it will show you (I say about because it will get stuck again at 15% but for much less time).
I found a solution to this problem...well the battery works even though this build is buggy as hell but at least the phone wont restart compulsively. If you flash this rom you're phone will work with the extended battery.
