Protecting samsung galaxy s after being stolen - Galaxy S I9000 General

HI guys,
Something came to my mind and wanted to share it with you...
its how to protect my device after being stollen?
I know there are plenty of apps to find the device( through gps remote activation), to erase the contents and release alerts through different ways.
BUT WHAT IF
somebody had stolen your phone , pull out the battery, then boot it into download mode (3 buttons combination that every one knows), and finally flashed it with any rom by using ODIN ???????
the question here;
IS THERE ANY WAY TO PASSWORD PROTECT THE ACCESS TO BOTH RECOVERY &/OR DOWNLOAD MODES IN THE DEVICE, SO IT CAN BE USELESS FOR THE THEIF ???
i hope u understand my worry here
cheers

Just call your carrier and report it stolen so the IMEI gets blacklisted, a useless toy to most thieves (unless they are smart enough to change the IMEI but most aren't).
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IMEI
PS: Please, the is really no need for huge fonts and colors, most of us can see just fine.

im saying this because, i know if we prevented somebody from flashing the device, it will be impossible to even change the IMEI

Think again. Every service has JTAG. so... isn't the password useless after all?
The best way top protect your phone is to keep your eyes on the device.

Juest a question...
As said before already exist many apps useful for retrieve our device if stolen, but all these apps need the GPS turned on.
What if if it's tuned off? Does exist an app that can turn on GPS in a remote way? (by sms for instance)

Try using wavesecure for locking your phone in case it's stolen. I think it tells you where the phone is and stuff too. And it locks the phone as soon as someone trys changing the sim. Give it a shot.. i liked it.

It'll ask you for a password. So you can enter that and you'll be in.
I'm now using the SlideIT keyboard - where you slide your finger through all the letters of the word you want to type and it works it out for you and pop's it right in there... it's so very cool to use.. makes me smile everytime I use it.! I can type quicker than I ever did now.
and Hendcent for text messages - it's much more natural to use than the standard.

Just getting the word out to everyone. This works without root and makes it super easy for you to remove any Bloatware you would like and fully control it.

Fine job making a Windows program. Unfortunately I do not know most of those apps so I will not select them. Is it too much to ask someone for a list of apk name versus function name?

The apk name is listed along with the packagename in the list. If you are unsure what things are safe to block/disable. There are plenty of people on the forum that would be willing to help you.
I did not see the package name so I will have run it again and read more carefully or try to change the size of that field.

The apk is on the left and the package name is on the right. Are you saying you would like to see the App Drawer Name ??
That would be really helpful. Thanks.

Yeah, it sounds like you blocked a little too many, Lol. You can simply go and save your blocked list and then Unblock all and start going one by one until you figure out which ones you do need.
Please bring all feedback and questions over to the forum dedicated for this.

Here's one thing to think about also, by accident I blocked the Google stock email , not the Gmail. I went back to unblock and I had to re-enter all my emails back again. So what I'm saying after a block and then an un-block it wipes the app. Did you expect that to happen or should I expect that to happen for most apps be turned back on?
Thanks

How to Disable Hard Keys

I am thinking what if someone stole my mobile and he is a tech savvy, he will reset my mobile through odin. And may be he can change that IMEI number. The worst thing is that he can access my personal data after that.
May be he can't do this. But who knows this wouldn't happen? In our world there are so many retailers in contact with thiefs. And they can flash any mobile.
But what if my mobile is not going into recovery and download mode? ?????
So is there any way to lock down or disabled those hard keys (volume and power)?
Hey @Danny_Dewet help me. @sev3n1985 bro do you have a solution for me?
is there anyone?

Disabling any way to recover your phone would be counterproductive for yourself as well.
What about setting up "Android Device Manager"? If your phone is stolen, you can erase all your phone's data from a PC.
No volume & power=no usable phone. Any stolen phone can be erased with google account and blocked by your operator

I know that. But i just want if it's possible what i asked? Then it can be possible that one can bargain for returning his/her mobile because that bl**** theif will never be able to reset that mobile. And if he wouldn't be able to reset it, he wouldn't be able to sell it. There should has to be a way of this type of locking. Any method which can be undone by a password or code.
Erasing and blocking through google is good but after that forget about your mobile you will never get it back.
And top of that if such method invented ever it will be a v tough for thiefs to get money by stolen mobiles.
I know that person can throw your mobile away but how many? When every mobile completely locked down he should have to quit his profession

I know. See my above post please.
But tell me if my mobile has some vvvvv important data. More important than my life and someone want to hurt me. And what if he get me drunk or anything like that. What then? That bast*** can reset my mobile and do whatever he wants.
Why mobile are manufacturers not giving us such options to locked mobile down completely?
And if erasing and blocking through thier Internet systems are the best abd final answer to the thiefs then why the hell are those thiefs still active? Why? Why is the mobile snatching rate so high?

If you want to disable hardware keys the best way is building a new kernel and disable them, next try to build up a recovery with pass code but you've a new problem... how to disable download mode? It's impossible, for now.

That's the thing. We can't. But there has to be some ways.... if those manufacturers don't want to give us an option to disable it then why are they ignoring a password protected download mode?
They can set it right? Am i wrong?
And for keys i am saying just like you but you were talking about download mode directly.
Look i am the owner of a mobile so it's my right to have full protection over my mobile. Mobile's main page is protected but the way of creating that page is not protected. Is it funny? Or sad one?

[q] zte zmax pro frp bypass?

So I bought a ZTE ZMAX PRO from ebay but the guy didn't mention he still had his google account linked. So when I boot up the phone I get welcomed by the FRP screen. I text the guy and tell him all the problems but he doesn't reply unfortunately. I've tried almost every possible way to bypass the FRP screen but nothing works. I wanted to know what other ways are available so I am able to actually use this phone.

Sorry it took so long to reply, and I'm sure you've already found an answer to this problem, but there is no method currently to bypass FRP. If the seller will not work with you on the issue, I would contact e-Bay and explain the situation. Worst case scenario, you should get a refund from eBay. Hopefully your issue is resolved by this time, or if not, that this helps to resolve it.
How much did you pay for it? I bought mine in metropcs store near me brand new for $122 after tax and everything. This is my fave phone by far. The VR experience in this phone is the awesomest. I would follow the advice of the other poster. I had been a victim of a lying seller too it was on amazon though. I can sell you my samsung on5 if you like? It is in working condition. VERY slightly used. With very slightly used case.
As many have probably already found out there is currently no known proceedure to bypass the FRP on the Zmax Pro If there is then it has not been posted anywhere on the web as of yet...I know this because I have one that is google FRP locked and have read every article and watched every video available and have tried every method out there for every zte phone and nothing works so for the guy or gal out there who does have a method for bypassing the Google FRP I would very much appreciate if you would share it with me I can be reached at [email protected] Please send me any info or links regaurding this issue that will allow me to open this phone ASAP Thanking whoever in advance...
If your phone is 'legit', then the legit way to bypass FRP is either call google, call ZTE and/or call where you bought your phone right? All you need is RECEIPT and they will help you solve your FRP.
I do know the 'pride' you feel though after bypassing FRP yourself. I felt that when I bypass FRP myself on my samsung galaxy ON5. Eventhough I already contacted Samsung and Google and they already gave me an RMA number.
Not worth the headache though. After I bypass FRP on my Samsung, I ditched it and bought Zmaxpro.
It made me not mess with brand new phones though. Guys it really is NOT worth the headache.
At the very least, if you want to mess with these new phones. Research FIRST, if there is an FRP bypass method for it, if not then, why give yourself a headache and an expensive paper weight really?

because you can find em cheaper used.. i bought one frp locked for 40$ but cant bypass it lol its a clean phone and i bought on offerup knowing it was locked..
i also searched before hand and theres 2 methods, one using swyft keyboard the other using dictionary in google keyboard..
however, latest update makes those methods useless..
why post if youre not going to help? telling someone they shouldnt have bought it after the fact is irrelevant..
does anyone know what FTM mode is used for? or if theres any stock firmware images that can be flashed somehow to rollback the security updates?

LOL. I am not telling YOU, but anyone who care to read it. But why would I even bother telling you ANYthing when you did exactly the same in galaxy ON5? Right? you are hopeless case, buying FRP locked phones coz it's cheap then posting on all forums for solution. well then enjoy the headache.
I actually had a deja vu when I read your thread on the other forum. Just sayin..
Guess I am going to the other forum coz zmaxpro has a LOT of love on there. Even have a root thread going on.
I kind of hope they won't be able to root though, For my selfish reason that I really will keep my zmaxpro as long as I can and want it to be remain stock as long as it can for security reasons.
I want to tell on the other forum why they feel the need to root new phones when it already has all the features root gives you. I really am puzzled.

FRP bypass. Works.
There's a video on this page that shows you how to do it. The guy doesn't say anything in the video so you just have to pay close attention to everything he does and repeat it exactly. I've had a ZMAX PRO that was frp locked for over 2 months. I followed every step closely and now I'm finally able to use it. This really works. Tried it works but a lengthy process..its very simple by skipping few steps.......this is what i did and unlocked like a charm...
1) Press two finger on the screen prompting the language option and start...it should open the accesiblity option..click on exit.
2) then try gestures in the screen with an inverted "U" .....it should open the recent app list...(it needs few attempts)
3) on the top of the screen type stock..it will show stock android ...launch it....
4) go to settings ...go down which needs two fingers to swipe down as the accessibility option are still open it...disable the talk back on the accessibility options.
5) go to settings ..apps..on the corner right up..click on system apps..then drag down ..go to lookup apps which needs to force stop and disable..
6) go to settings again go to security ..enable the unknown source option.
7) go to home screen back by recent app button or home screen (Home screen button some time might not work)and open chrome browser...search for test dpc apk...download and install the latest test dpc apk...
8) once installed open the apk ..select as individual owner .1st option then next..then click on add account this will redirect it to adding account which will prompt the google old ID again..
9) click on recent app option and go to settings again ..go backup & Reset ..erase everything...which should reset the phone..by restarting and the ID is gone...(make sure your battery is above 30% inorder to reset.
10) Once reset the phone is set as new device without an ID.

Agreed its your method and i have just worked on your method..without ADM and disabling the Accessibility by going to taptalk option. for me it didnt ask anything as i first disabled the lookup which should stop the Admin request.
All credit goes to you..

Samsung Smart Call being disabled by Carriers

SO SORRY FOR THE LONG POST!!
Hey guys, I've been a long time fan of this site, but have never posted anything. I've been using Samsung phones forever and when Smart Call was added, it was the best. For those who don't know, Smart Call is a Built In feature that integrates with the dialer/ caller Id to help mitigate Spam calls and fraud calls. Its ABSOLUTELY free and works. I have the US Cellular S10+ and this free feature on my $1k phone has been disabled to push their paid feature called Call Guardian on us as well as other carriers doing the same. I can open system files and see that the "program" is there, but like I said it's been disabled somehow through software. This site is home to some of the smartest people out there. Have any of you guys found a way to enable features that Carriers have disabled without flashing (I'd love to but I'm scared I'd brick it). Any ideas or advice would be awesome! Thank you

Other than flashing the U1 firmware that's about it. Since it's a system app that's disabled by your carrier's csc configuration that's your only option.
Thank you for the quick response. That was what I was afraid of. Im pretty tech savvy so I believe I could, it's just I've never attempted to flash a phone before. I've looked online for some how-to info on flashing. Do you have any that you would recommend being a newbie to it?

There is a decent set of instructions here, just ignore step 1 and the fact it's for a different model. Download the modified Odin and U1 branded firmware from this post. Other than that it's pretty much self explanatory. Use your original charging cable to connect your phone to the PC and if you get stuck ask for help in the thread I linked. That's your best bet.
EDIT: Smart Call has a bug too. It disables when you restart your phone sometimes so you will need to re-enable it in the settings menu.
Thank you so much for taking the time to help me!
It's not on the unlocked F either. I was very dissappointed.
I have unlocked s10 sd but I have to re-enable the spam caller ID toggle after every reboot for some reason.

So, I've made a post on the Sprint Community Forum concerning this Smart Call lockout. I'm doing a mix of looking like I tried to research the issue and also rather pointedly not sounding like someone who was installing ROM's on Windows Mobile devices over a decade ago in the hopes that someone at Sprint will promise something they probably shouldn't in print. Maybe they'll get the point that this anti-competitive crap isn't going to fly forever.
For whatever it's worth, the unlocked Canadian version we bought at Best Buy has that feature available and it has remained enabled since first setting up the phone. Couldn't tell you the csc, but a heads up in the event it happens to be helpful somehow.
