Hi, I'm about to get a myTouch 4g but I'm currently using at-t.
I was reading through cyanogenmod's root tutorial
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=TMobile_myTouch_4G:_Full_Update_Guide
and it says that by getting permanent root, it sim unlocks the mytouch. Is this true? If so it would definitely save me 20 dollars.
I was also wondering if I had to get temporary root BEFORE getting permanent root? or could I just skip straight to permanent root process
you will find what you are looking for at the very top of the Development section... look for "TRUE PermaRoot and the ULTIMATE S=Off!!! Check this out even if you're rooted!!!"

Before you guys start giving me crap(lOl), I did read a bunch of posts and looked around but couldn't find a straight answer
Is there a way to root a HTC MyTouch 3g with a 32B motherboard, that's already been updated to 2.21 OTA
I saw a bunch of posts where it specifically says, "This does not work on 2.21 devices"
I just got this phone, I'm used to working on a vibrant so I'm a bit lost
Is there a way to root or not after you update?
yes you can root your phone even with OTA 2.2.1 for T-Mobile MyTouch 3G 32B
you can use
CLShortFuse tutorial for SuperOneClick
and the Ultimate Mytouch Root Guide

happy rooting!
I just went last night and switch from Tmobile with the G2x to AT&T with the Atrix. So far I like the Atrix but I had my G2x rooted with superoneclick and I was wondering if I can root the Atrix with superoneclick. I did a search on here and found this
HOW TO ROOT YOUR DEVICE ON ANDROID 2.3.4:
Follow the instructions in this post:
forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15872818
or
These Instructions:
http://briefmobile.com/motorola-atrix-4g-root
*Note: Many of the ROMs you may wish to install, after your boot loader is unlocked, will also include a ROOT package. Check the indiviual ROM OP to make sure though.
superoneclick is alot easier to root that is why i'm asking.
Check the noob guide under " stickies ", really, everything is in there.

I have a question,
I've had my Mytouch 4g slide for quite a while and I've decided that I wanted to root my phone but I want to get a feel for rooting so I want to go the temporary route instead of a permanent root. Can anyone help me? It would also help if someone explained to me what S-Off is and stuff because. Mind you, I'm new to rooting so don't get on my case. Thanks in advance.

Hi.
I'm new to Mt4g and I'm a bit confused about what to do. I got the bad emmc chip and it's 2.3.4 gingerbread version and carrier unlocked also.
What's the main difference between gfree and visionary root methods?
I read gfree instructions but it uses visionary application to get temproot, is this method still gfree, and not visionary? Or visionary is just the root.sh method?
My only interest is to use unnofficial roms because I suppose they are better.
I won't be able to return my phone as I don't live in USA, may I try root it?
Appreciate any help.
Please read the "newcomer" sticky threads in General and Q&A sections. Your questions are already answered, you're not the first person (and not the 1000th person either) to ask about MT4G on the largest MT4G forum on the internet, please keep that in mind when looking for further information.
I already read them many times after and before buying the phone.
I'm not new to forums.
But it's just because there is a confusion about methods name (which one is visionary?).
Beside of that, I've see people saying it's not about ”bad” emmc. And the newcomers threads are a bit older (as it's an older phone), so maybe there is a different conclusion from many users.
I think I would be able to follow every tutorial, but I'd like to see more advises considering my situation (impossibility of returning the phone).

You have it right, visionary is the root.sh...if you have the bad emmc, then gfree is the way to go, make sure to follow the downgrade guides before trying to root and to install the engineering bootloader.

I used visionary + gfree to root my "bad" eMMC. Visionary to install superuser and su binary and gfree for s-off.

Hi guys. I have been reading up on the forums for a couple days trying to figure this Root Unlock stuff out and it has me a little confused. I recently had a Samsung Galaxy S and rooted it no problem. But it seems that was much simplier than the things over here at HTC. So i have a couple quesitons. I am trying to unlock the phone from T-Mobile to AT&T. I understand that i could go to T-Mobile if my account has been active long enough, but sadly it hasn't.
1. I have found a couple guides on here explaining how to root and unlock but most of them seem overly complicated compared to rooting the Galaxy i used to have. Is this just due to it being HTC or have they just gotten way more complicated since then?
2. If i root it, then i should be able to unlock it so i can use it on AT&T by using the S=OFF guides i see around here right? I ask because i am not entirely sure what S=OFF even means, let alone what it has to do with unlocking the phone.
I have read a couple guides and it seems if i get it rooted it should be no problem to unlock using the S=OFF method, but it seems like rooting is a chore. If it is fairly easy then i will go for it no worries. And i understand that if anything happens it is my fault, i am just looking for the easiest method of unlocking this phone to AT&T aside from the unlock code from T-Mobile!
Thanks!

My advice would be just to go ahead and root that bad boy, in the process of rooting it will be the option to unlock it. The thread is in the sticky section of the dev section. I'll post a link in one second.
EDIT: OK here's the link. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=858996
Its pretty straight forward just follow it without shortcuts and you'll be fine.
