Instructions for Dell Streak ATT Users - Streak 5 General

I figured I'd return the favor for this forums help by writing a few steps I cobbled together from being a n00b to android and making my Dell Streak from a 0 to hero! I wanted to replace my iPhone4 and I was so excited to get the streak only to find out it had 1.6 and was lame! Slow, laggy, no tethering, it was gonna go back to where I bought it till now..
Here is what I did to make it work.
First off, the XP Driver issue OMG what a nightmare, Keep in mind I'm a 15 yr IT Veteran and I blew up one of my desktops..
So here is what I did. UNINSATLL ANY AND ALL DRIVERS if you have any.
First install the fast boot drivers using the drivers from the Dell found here.
To install, put the streak in Fastboot mode, Pull battery put back in, put back cover on, Press the power button for 2 secs, then hold down the camera button till you get a white screen, Touch FASTBOOT, then plug into your computer, Tell it NO do not search, next screen, Middle Check box "search in this folder" Browse to the the Dell driver directory.
Next install the Qalcom diagnostic driver using this video and the drivers from the QDLTool.
Now once you have all that ready, You may now proceed to install the QDLTool froyo 2.2 image
Next I rooted it using SuperOneClick found Here (version 1.5.5), this will allow the next step to work.
Next I installed SETCPU found here to later have some overclocking fun and make this thing scream. Just copy the .APK to your streak and download an Application loader from the marketplace instead of using fastboot or other complicated things. (i used "Quick App Install")
Then I installed Clockwork Recovery using these directions. The one thing not mentioned was how to get into it.
(dont do this yet)
To get into clock work, pull battery, turn on holding Volume down and power
Also I noticed the camera button is used to "select" you gotta push like hell on it if its a new streak.
Copy the performance mod/update 309 from this Thread to your root folder of your Streaks SD Card and rename it to update.zip.
pull battery (or hold Power and Camera to get the shutdown menu in android)
Boot up into clockwork and select update using update.zip (volume buttons move selection up and down and camera to select, remember push like hell on the camera button, any other button will shut the screen off, just press it again to get the screen back) Run the update. then select reboot...
You should have a Pretty Badass Stock Dell system
EDIT:
I just wanted to do a basic brain dump of the past week i've spent tracking down this stuff I'll continue to edit and add links that I found the most useful.
Everything is in the forum, but there is no order on how to do things..
Thanks to all and Streakdroid.com

What directions? I've been looking all over the place for where to download and install it but coming up empty

You'll find copies of both clockworkmod and streakmod in the downloads section on streakdroid.com.
As for installing, you'll need a copy of fastboot. If you've used QDLTool in the past then it has a copy of fastboot in the same folder.
Extract the recovery image (I prefer streakmod, so the recovery image name is "recovery.img") into the same directory as fastboot.
Shut down your Streak, then hold down the camera button all the way whilst turning on the Streak. When the screen turns white, press the 'Fastboot' option in the top right corner of the screen. When you plug in the USB cable, it should say 'FASTBOOT_MODE'. If it doesn't change, you may have to install the ADB drivers.
You then need to running the following command to install the new recovery:
fastboot -i 0x413c flash recovery recovery.img
(Change recovery.img to the name of the recovery image)
You can then run this command to reboot the Streak:
fastboot -i 0x413c reboot
As the phone reboots, hold down both volume buttons to enter the recovery menu. Select option 2 (Upgrade) to start the new recovery image. If you are using StreakMod, press either power or menu when the screen with the dell logo and exclamation mark shows, to open the main menu.
Enjoy.

ok noob alert...the OP mentioned he was disappointed when he saw the dell streak had 1.6 and was lame...what is 1.6? the version of the OS?
edit: nvm...found out it is the OS

You might want to tell people when loading thru the qdltool that they have to wait and it will EVENTUALY boot into 2.2
I didn't know this and couldn't find anywhere it says what its supposed to do. I thought I was just using the tool to load something else on and and after a few tries, it just booted into something.

Unbricking mytouch/g1 ( soft bricks only but no harm trying )

I found a site with someone who bricked their phone but found a loop hole. I have never bricked my phone and hoping i never will but for those who have bricked their phone here are some steps to try to unbrick it! HOPE IT HELPS! SEND FEED BACK!!
So you can’t access bootloader or recovery and the only thing that works is the blue led trick when pressing trackball + power button??
Try the procedure below.
Step 1: Turned Phone off by taking out the battery.
Step 2: Prepared SD card
Put SD card in card reader and formatted it as FAT32, copied the DREAIMG.nbh onto it.
Or try Sapphimg.nbh
Step 3: Put SD card back in phone
Step 4: Hold Vol down + Power + track ball together and put battery to start phone
Step 5: Run update
IF THAT DIDNT WORK!
TRY THIS!
Step 1: Turning Off Your Phone
Because you have a bricked phone, you can't just hold the power button. So if your phone is not already off then you're going to want to take out the battery.
Step 2: Preparing Our SD card
Take out your SD card and put it into an SD card reader or some type of other adapter so that we can view it from our computer. If you cannot view the SD card on your computer then you're going to need a new SD card.
Download DREAIMG-RC29.zip and unzip the file.
Reformat the SD card to FAT32 and copy the DREAIMG.nbh onto it.
Safely eject the SD card.
Put the SD card into your device.
Step 3: Wipe The Phone
Hold home and press the power button.
When you see the image of an ! mark, open your keyboard and press Alt + L if you cannot see any command options.
Do a factory reset by pressing Alt + W or just using the trackball.
When the reset is done, go ahead and hold the camera button and select the reboot system now option with your trackball.
Step 4: Flashing The Phone
Once the grey screen pops up (or the white screen if your phone was rooted with JesusFreke) it will ask you to hit a button to start installing the image…press that button. DO NOT DO ANYTHING TO STOP THIS PROCCESS. It will take about 8-12 minutes.
When the image has completed the installation (it will say completed), go ahead and press the green, red, and menu buttons at the same time. The phone will reboot.
And your done! Your phone is now unbricked!.
The G1 screen will hang there for a good minute or two, but be paticiant, it will boot. Now you have a choice. Try to hack your phone again, because you're in the correct state to have another go, or, you can stick with the official Android. Now if you choose to stick with the official Android, here's what you do.
Step 1: Upgrading to Android 1.0 RC33
Download the file signed-PLAT-RC33-from-RC30.zip
Rename the file to update.zip and copy it to your SD card
Reboot your phone into recovery mode. Power off the phone first and then hold down the Home key while powering it back on.
The recovery mode is finished loading when you see the ! mark inside the triangle. Press Alt + L to display the list of options.
Press Alt + S to flash the file update.zip.
Wait for the update to apply. Your phone may reboot during this process so be patient.
Press Home + Back if prompted to reboot your phone.
Step 2: Upgrading to Android 1.5 CRB43
Download the file signed-kila-ota-148830.de6a94ca.zip
Repeat the steps from above to flash the update file.
Step 3: Upgrade to Android 1.5 CRC1
Download the file signed-kila-CRC1-from-CRB43-FIX.7ca4a1d7.zip
Repeat the steps from above to flash the update file.
Step 4: Upgrade to Android 1.6 DRC83
Download the file signed-kila-DRC83-from-CRC1.c41b93c1.zip
Repeat the steps from above to flash the update file.

run fastboot boot recovery-image.img or whatever you named your recovery image. It'll display "waiting for device..." message just keep pluging it in, unplugging, popping the battery and eventually your device will respond and boot into recovery.
Someone bricked and i did it... twice trying to flash the eng 2010 SPL. It worked the third time and my device is up and running again with an engineering SPL.
if your device is stuck on the first splash but displays in red "Fastboot USB" message in the upper left corner of the screen, DO NOT power it down. run the above mentioned command and reflash.
deleted... double post.

-I Connected USB.
-I inserted the battery.
-I booted the phone while holding the HOME key.
-The phone still froze at the first splash screen, but then suddenly, the waiting fastboot command detected the phone and booted the recovery image!

fastboot boot recovery?
boot.img and recovery.img are two totally different things.
The recovery (amon_ra is preferred)
The boot.img is where the kernel, ramdisk, etc resides.
you must've meant fastboot flash boot boot.img
or
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
but not both.

I just copied and pasted from a website.. THEY did that and it worked for them lol
bricked Mytouch3g
Bricked mytouch3g -- brandnew phone. Just tried to flash cyanogen test3 and everything went fine but then I rebooted and all I have is vodafone boot screen, nothing else works but the blue led which will not load any img. adp doesn't work it never detects a phone no matter what you do. It was the first flash too. Crazy how HTC didn't make a built in hard reset like you have on windows mobile phones. You wonder if they want people to crash there phones so they have to replace them ect etc.
Hello.
My phone has the same problem.
Anything that is needed done. But no no avail.
My phone is brick.

Assuming your ADB and all that is set up...and you already downloaded the Release 1 of Froyo ROM.
Install clockworkMod recovery : Do this by downloading this:
http://loadbalancing.modaco.com/download.php?url=paul/streak/2.5.0.1-streak-clockworkrecovery.zip
and follow this instruction.
Download the recovery image zip file above and extract to a directory
Put your device in bootloader mode (Unplug the device from your PC, remove the device battery, then replace it and turn device on with the camera button pressed. Select the 'fastboot' text on the top right, wait around 10 seconds then plug the device into your PC. The screen display should change to 'FASTBOOT MODE'. If it doesn't, repeat and retry
WINDOWS - double click 'install-recovery-windows.bat'
(I've had instances where I had to literally run this batch file twice to ensure it was picked up by the device.
THEN, place the update-new.zip onto your sd card
Now boot streak into recovery by shutting down and holding vol up and down as you press power, select update from .pkg option and wait for Clockwork to load. Ignore errors regarding Misc...blah, blah...
-select flash zip from sd
-choose select zip from sd and find the update-new.zip and flash it
-Afterwards, press the power button to go back until you see the optiong to reboot. Enjoy your FROYO.
when i press the shutter button to install it gives me two errors: no signature annd verification failed or something like that i never see anything thats says install from zip

If youre at that part it should go like this...
1) Keep both volume buttons down and then power on. Sometimes its better to power on, once you see your back, home, and menu button light up, immediately press the 2 volume buttons and keep it pressed. If successful you should be faced with the Stock Recovery Screen. This will give you 4 options, and option 2 is install Update.pkg. Ensuring there is not file on root of SD Card that is labeled Update.pkg, select Option 2.
2) If you do this it will go black and a message saying.."Android....." and then you'll be faced with Koush's custom recovery. You'll know you're in custom recovery because you have to hold the Streak upside down. (3 buttons on top and earpiece at the bottom). If you see this then you're successful and should be straightforward from there. Follow the rest of the instructions provided in my previous post.
-------
-select flash zip from sd
-choose select zip from sd and find the update-new.zip and flash it
-Afterwards, press the power button to go back until you see the optiong to reboot.
this is frustrating. ... when I did it_it went to the stock recovery and when I press shutter button it doesn't go to the custom recovery and I know I flashed it

[Q] Streak Stuck on Dell Screen, How Do I Restore?

I recently got the OTA update for 2.2 for my Dell Streak and I then proceeded to run the "Stock Froyo 2.2 Performance Fix" which provided a fantastic speed boost.
This morning while at the airport I noticed a post on Streak Smart about an update that was available to change the clock icon to a numerical number with a circular fill instead of just the standard battery icon. My Streak rebooted and just stayed stuck on the Dell logo, so I tried applying and rebooting a few more times but it never got past this. I then tried to do a factory reset, which did nothing, so I went into Clockwork and tried a Wipe / Reset, which also did nothing (still booting to the Dell logo and it sticks there forever).
Any thoughts on how to bring my dear Streak back to life?
Fixed
I was able to fix this myself by using the instructions on StreakSmart.com to get DJ Steve's 1.4.6 on my device using FastBoot.
Since I am a new user on XDA I can't post outside URL's, but if you go to StreakSmart.com and move to the 2nd page you should find the post regarding manually upgrading to DJ Steve's 1.4.6.
Here are the instructions from StreakSmart.com (note: the instructions on StreakSmart.com are hyperlinked, making them much easier to follow):
1. Download this fastboot file to your computer's desktop. Don't do anything with it; just leave it on your desktop. If you feel more comfortable getting the file from the SDK, you can download the whole kit.
2. Download this .zip provided by DJ_Steve. Extract the folder and put the contents (amss.mbn, boot.img, system.img) on your computer's desktop.
3. Turn off your Dell Streak.
4. Hold down the power button. When the buttons light up on the side, press and hold down the camera button. Keep holding down both buttons until you see a white screen.
5. Press the "FastBoot" button in the top right corner. You will see "Wait for USB FastBoot detect" on the Streak's screen.
6. Wait a few seconds (I usually count to 10, though this may not be necessary) and then plug the Streak into your Windows computer. "Fastboot_Mode" will be displayed in the lower left corner of your Streak's screen.
7. On your Windows computer, open the Command Prompt program. If you don't know where it is (it's preloaded), search for it in the Start Menu's search bar.
8. You should see C:\Users\Your Name (or whatever your computer is called). All the files you need are on your desktop, so type cd desktop and press enter. You should now see C:\Users\Your Name\Desktop.
9. Now type fastboot -i 0x413c flash amss amss.mbn and press enter. Wait until you see "finished" and the active line in Command Prompt is C:\Users\Your Name\Desktop again.
10. Next type fastboot -i 0x413c flash boot boot.img and press enter. Wait until you see "finished" and the active line is once again C:\User\Your Name\Desktop.
11. Finally, type fastboot -i 0x413c flash system system.img and press enter. Wait until you see "finished" (it may take a few minutes this time) and the active line is C:\User\Your Name\Desktop.
12. Disconnect the Streak from your computer and remove the battery.
13. Reinsert the battery and power on the Streak normally. It will take several minutes to boot (mine took about 3 minutes).
14. Run through the start-up wizard and enjoy the official Android 2.2 build on your Dell Streak. Use z4root from Android Market or SuperOneClick to root the new build.

can you please add to your post how to get rid of blinking/flashing led lights (menu, home, back) because some of us have this kind of problem after flashing stock 407 olleh rom. thank you!
Reply
I had such a blinks while i did for the first time upgrading to custom ROM but it blinked for just 3 times twice thats all. If you follow my steps to upgrade the ROM i hope it wont blink and wont have any problem for any one. Because i spend lots of time and collected all the information needed to upgrade my streak. I did researched for whole one day to find the dell streak ADB driver and collected all the steps that is easy to help other fellow mates to have a recent upgrade to their Dell Streak.
And I formatted my dell streak with same steps for like more than 6 times already and never had any problem. And couple of time i did with the streakmod and didnt had problem as well. I think this is the easy and detailed information to upgrade to gingerbread 2.3.3 without any problem. I saw lots of problems and lack of information in others post. So, i decided to post a detail and easier steps so mates with dell streak can enjoy the gingerbread 2.3.3
All the best guys with upgrading

Hi is there any video tutorial as i am finding this a bit difficult.Anyone please do help me with installation of gingerbread. Thanks in advance
You can find some of the videos to upgrade in youtube search for it and go for it
accepted the love of many because it helps .... good job ...
im an amatuer wid android n after all the hesitations i had to upgrade . finally did it...
thanks to ur step by step procedure...i got stuck in ur step 5 6 and 7..
i found out a simplier version for those who dint understand that ..if it is of any help
Press Shift key and from right click menu on anywhere on the folder (on empty space without selecting any files or folders) open a DOS command window on that folder. Or Start menu > Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt.
Now type 'cd C:\streak'. Type "dir" and you should see all the files and folders in C:\streak. Type 'fastboot' and you should see a list of command options.
type 'fastboot -i 0x413c flash recovery recovery.img' without the quotes and hit enter. You can see that your DS screen shows the response. (Make sure that the DS white screen says 'download done' or something like that.)
type 'fastboot -i 0x413c reboot' without the quotes and hit enter. This will reboot your phone. Now on rebooting, immediately enter to recovery mod (hold both volume buttons while powering on).
thanks for the fabulous tutorial..
so far gingerbread looks nice ... BUT after upgrading my speakers volume went way too low how can i fix this...with froyo were pretty loud and clear.. please help...
Ignore this post! a reboot fixed the issue
Best installation Step for Any Rooted Dell Streak regardless the region
YES!!!, YOU HEARD ME RIGHT, WITHOUT USING ANY RECOVERY, WORKS FOR ANY, AGAIN ANY ROOTED DELL STREAK 5 REGARDLESS YOUR REGION...
1. Download Multi Recovery flasher.
2. Download the Streak_407_20707_14.pkg, yeap! Recovery image not needed
3. ...now rename the PKG file to Update.pkg and copy to the root of your SD card.
4. ALSO, create a folder name LOST.DIR , all uppercase... in the root of your SD care, if there is one there already skip this step.
5. now restart your Dell streak and hold the volume up and down button to get to recovery menu. choose 2nd menu i.e “Software upgrade via Update.pkg on SD card” and press the power button.
6. Now the decryption process. It gonna attempt to install the update and hence fail. Don't freak out. Now boot to phone normally and connect it to your PC. access your SD card and go to the LOST.DIR folder, you should see a white file with no extension with a randon digit name. example 553, file type - "file" (decrypted pkg file)
7. Now rename this white file to Update.zip, then copy it to the root of your SD card.
8. Now shutdown your Dell streak and boot to fastboot i.e power button and camera button, it should take you to the famous white page. flash Streakmod recovery using the Muitl-Recovery flasher you downloaded.
9. Phone should restart at this point, hold Volume up and down button to get to recovery menu...select Select upgrade via Update.pkg on SD card and press the power button again, this time you should get to black screen with dell logo and a caution sign.
10. Select update Zip from SD, select choose Zip from list...scroll to the "Update.Zip" and select that..installation should commence and with 10 minute you are running Olleh Gingerbread. Hey Radimus...
Did you know that you could decrypt .PKG files and convert them to .Zip file so they are flash-able through Streakmod recovery? I figured out the trick through my dell streak... it works.

Hi,
Thanks for the post.
Please help me as I got stuck and my display shows wait for usb fast boot detect..........
now what to do.....
If thats the case, then it means you need to install dell android adb driver on your pc so your pc can detect your dell streak through the multi-recovery flasher. Search on google for it...or check dell.com technical help for handheld devices...you should find it there as well.
How can u decrypt a pkg file to a zip file

[SERIOUS HELP] My Nexus One cannot reboot

My Nexus One is rooted (I forgot how I did it).
Last night suddenly my phone went off and could not reboot anymore. It stayed on "X" screen forever. I tried to hard reset (i.e. Pressing volume down and power button). Then I pressed "Recovery" and then it went restart and stayed on "X" screen forever again. What can U do?
Please help, I am a new root user. please teach me step by step to do so. thanks.
Turn it off. Hold the trackball while starting it up. If you have usb debugging on and working fastboot drivers, you can wipe your phone (fastboot -a in cmd) and flash an img file of like a stock ROM.

I had read some other members did some tricks to their phone by remove the SD card and reboot the phone. BTW, is the battery fully charged? Try to pull the battery and then put it back on.

I tried this already but still not work, I had brought my phone to some third party mobile repair centre, they said my N1 is CPU broken and will cost around US$96 to replace with a new CPU (HTC need around US$190 for mother board). I paid US$96 anyways. not sure if it worth.

The bootloader of my N1 is unlocked, I am not familiar with fastboot thing. My friend helped mine root and he is out of my country now. Gotta follow cnalbant's steps and see.
Install ClockworkMod Recovery on Nexus One Manually
Step 1: Download ClockworkMod Recovery: recovery-clockwork-2.5.1.1-passion.img (there are more current, look at the xda)
Step 2: Set up ADB for Nexus One
Step 3: Put the downloaded recovery-clockwork-2.5.1.1-passion.img in C: drive
Step 4: Turn Nexus One off and connect it to PC via USB
Step 5: Hold the Power button + Trackball together to start Nexus One in fastboot mode
Step 6: Once in fastboot mode, open Terminal / Command Prompt and run following command:
fastboot devices
This command will check if your device is connected in fastboot mode or not.
Step 7: Now run following command (place the file recovery in the same folder where the fastboot):
fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-2.5.1.1-passion.img
This will install Clockwork recovery on your Nexus One.
That’s it, enjoy!
You can either follow the above guide or this amon ra recovery guide
forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/HTC_Nexus_One/Recovery_Images
Amon ra is another recovery just like clock workmod
B4 using adb download the drivers of adb and fastboot
www.mediafire.com/?bhxmn903d6cz9eg
When you connect ur phone use device manager to locate the connection on win 7 and select install drivers frm folder and install frm the extracted folder of adb driver
