LOL, in a "sucks" kind of way. Does this mean that the JMC version that I am now running is the end of the road?
It will get bypassed like the desire z and droid 2

what are they going to do sticky it to r/o lol
Not all JMA/C/D ROM are affected, it depends where your rom is coming from.

It makes you laughing? That some cool members bricked one tab?
Poor
Its not a one way ticket, this protection is always broken as i have shown with my tab.
It might be that it was beginners luck as i'm a very noob on all this stuff, but tomorrow when i get back home i will offer to chainfire and rotohammer all necessary resources they could need out of my still working tab. They just need to pm me and we keep it low level, onliest condition, be patient····

It makes me LOL not at anyone who may be affected, but at myself. I am running JMC since yesterday and I do not know if I am affected. Believe me, I know what it feels like to have at least a temporary brick. I would not laugh at anyone for ANY reason.

New tab owner here, and I'm sorry to say this, but...
I'm ****ing well glad I've only just gone as far as rooting yet, no roms
I'm equally happy running the Roto-JMC build. My Tab runs much smoother than stock. Browsing was my biggest gripe, but no longer an issue.

If it is the same method used by motorola for its milestone (RSA sign on BL and kernel), we are at least ****ed
Anyway, there is a difference.. we started our experience with the TAB with a free BL SBL Kernel, so we can hope something like a new rom with new kernel booted by old BL/SBL...
In truth I don't know if it could be possible for sure.. may some devs can
People understand that they may choose not to do the upgrade, whether it be through Kies or OTA...
One way or another, it'll get bypassed. Whether its straight away or takes months of hard work, someone will find a gap and pry it open. Just remember you're on xda

Given that the source of this "news" was Chainfires posting on these very forums, I find it quite ironic that we're being directed to another site to read about this "discovery"!
Plus, the article is wrong anyway - it says that the new BLs prevent rooting: they don't!

All,
I just got a prompt from Kies. There is an official upgrade! It offers JM1 firmware.
What firmware have you got now?
Stock - JF3
That's it? That's their fix is it? A beta firmware called JM1, where quite a lot of people have already updated to JM2 and JM5?
It does not solve a thing. The underlying problems still remain. JMX firmware merely dampens things down and is a bit more intelligent in drawing a path. It doesn't solve GPS stability issues, lock or anything else.
If this is the direction Samsung are going, then I think this sends a signal that the issue is not fixable and this is just a fudge.
Roll on October for a HTC Desire HD.
Hi All
I have upgraded to the new firmware but now i am unable to download some apps from the market place
I had myplayer on my phone before the upgrade and now when i search for it on the market its not there
Does anyone know why i cant see it my mate can see myplayer on his htc desire phone.
Ha, I bloody knew it would be one we've already seen! Unless someone can confirm this actually fixes anything I'm not letting it anywhere near my phone.
It makes sense that it's a previous leak, the official releases are always going to lag behind the leaks we get.
Presumably they thought JM1 was enough of an update and stable enough for release to justify making it official.
There'll be more, just got to wait
But this was supposed to be "We have a fix guys, yeah, we'll release it in Beta" kind of attitude.
It's not fix at all, just a flaming fudge.
No lag-fix at all? Very, very disappointed!
No one said it was a fix, just an official firmware update. Fixes will probably come out in betas first. Thanks OP for the info.

Ok so we finally got ICS for our tabs, but unfortunately we are already running behind as JB is already out or on its way to several devices. I was wondering if you guys think that we will ever see an OFFICIAL JB update to for our tabs. Please spare me the custom JB ROM replies, i am not asking or interested about that i am only interested in an official JB update. What do you guys think, possible or will Samsung forget about our 7.7" like they did with original 7" and just move on. Please share your thoughts on this.
I am hoping we can get Google Now on our tab, seen it running on the Nexus 7 and it is awsome, the Bitter UI would be nice as well but not a priority.

Same question will be asked after JB when Google releases Android Lollipop !
Just be glad that your TAB is working on ICS, and that alone will open the door for CM9 and even CM10 as there's no changes in kernel.

And BTW Google now has already been ported to ICS.
Officially... I say no looking from previous firmware update method by Samsung.
Maybe we can get it through CM or other Dev

I use my Verizon 7.7 all the time as I fell in love with the size and the mobility. I sold my Asus Transformer Prime, because I was barely using it. So I am in an even bigger pickle because my tablet is through Verizon. I hate samsung and their development awareness. They take forever to bring updates and I really fell such a great and expensive tablet like the 7.7 will fall by the wasteside. I truly don't think JB will be coming out anytime in the near future. I still don't have ICS on this tablet, but I use a different launcher which helps with lag.
I would imagine that any new tablet in this size and with amoled would presumably debut either at IFA, probably not since Note 2 is coming at IFA, so a new 7.7 would appear at CES 2013, possibly with new AMOLED tech, making the device thinner, lighter and higher resolution screen.
I would say 95%

Nobody in this thread is really complaining, but there have been ALOT of complaints in this forum due to limited dev support, but c'mon, we're early adopters! TRUST me, as this tech becomes more affordable, the dev community will be all over it.
There is MASSIVE potential to be unlocked with larger sAMOLED+ displays. Has anybody realised that human hands have never drawn, painted or written anything with such a pallette before? Sometimes I feel like I'm talking to the wind on this issue.
From what I can tell, 10%-20% of us are professional artists/photographers/developers. The rest of ya'll are just awesome enthusiasts...(professional in your own right, I'm sure)---
The strange thing is, we're spread out all over the world, and there looks to be less than 100,000 of us total.
Nobody I've talked to (I mean chatted with on here) knows anyone else, or has seen anyone else with one of these tablets. That makes each of us unique in our own social spheres. JB will come out within months through the dev community, and i'd rather see an AOSP/AOKP port of JB than another sammy-watered-down-whimpy-touch-wiz-fracked-wish-i-were-a-REAL-android-distro-CRAPOLA-"UPGRAYEDD"

Amen Bro ! Thats why I love this site so much. It doesn't really matter what T-Mobile does so its kind of a pointless conversation. I would't really even take the KIES update or OTA update from T-Mobile anyways. I will wait untill someone here gets a good stable JB Release. I am reluctant to change because my ICS rom is so smooth and stable but I know within a few months it will be worth it. It's like a slap in the face to the slow and bloated T-Mo. Rom.

I wouldn't do a kies update either. My hope is for Samsung to release source so that the devs here have more to work with. That was what dogged the vibrant. They eventually released Froyo for it, but nothing further. The GB/ICS/JB releases for it were all ported from either the i9000 or the Nexus S, and had to be tweaked since there was no actual source to work with for the vibrant itself. That's why the GPS was so spotty on it on any version of android after Froyo. I'm glad that my insurance replacement for my busted Vibrant was the Hercules, which is still in the window of time (was it 18 months?) that they pledged to support upgrades to android. Whether we actually see it is another story. At least the devs here really kick some butt on the ROMs they release.

With the S4 just weeks away from the final release presumably directly on 4.2.2 wouldn't have been a very smart idea to have something similar to that for S3 'accidentally' leak towards XDA so that Samsung could have many thousands of highly-qualified beta-testers iron-out most of the last-second surprises? Since the 4.2.1 leak was not looking very convincing to me, and it looked like it really needed more extra testing ...
I find a little strange that... Samsung still updating the S3
I find it a little strange how you expect someone to risk their job for you.

Well a common theory is that Samsung are themselves responsible for the leaks, or at the very least, very much aware of, but indifferent to their occurrence.
And it makes sense. So many development ROMs get leaked, it seems odd to think that they would have NO way to prevent, or at least reduce, them if they wanted to.
IMHO makes business sense, when you think about it...
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
I'm sure we will get a leak when they have something worth leaking, alpha testing is more than likely conducted in house, for obvious reasons, and I wouldn't expect a 4.2.x update for at least 8 weeks after the s4 release.
My opinion about leaks is that Samsung does use XDA for a cheeky bit of beta testing, when they have safe stuff to release, but I don't think they are stupid enough to release alpha stuff to the, let's face it, dubious skills of your average xda end user!
And if anyone did try leaking an alpha, I'm pretty sure they would get hung out to dry!
....but then I might be completely wrong!

I had it running for at least 3 weeks myself. The main reason I stopped using it was the battery life. I was getting about 4-6 hours with my 2500mah extended battery and would get pretty warm frequently. I have spare batteries, but it still got to be too much. I don't know if that was common for others, but I have a habit of running a lot of apps at the same time with push notifications and such, I think power management wasn't built out very well so it really impacted my use. The same apps and such get me about 8-10+ hours with the 4.1 roms (nearly double the battery life).
There were a few other little issues as well. I stuck it out longer than usual hoping some more 4.2 leaks would come out, but none did. Even the custom roms releases didn't offer any improvements, just the usual google apps updates.
Not a big deal, I mostly wanted 4.2 because I was hoping for camera updates, widget lockscreen, toggle panel, etc. I liked the widget lockscreen, but they didn't do anything with the camera. The toggle panel didn't prove to be that useful because the 25 toggle mod kinda does that just fine anyway. Other than the 4.2 improvements that samsung included from the stock 4.2 experience, I'm not really in any rush for a 4.2 rom on the S3. Other than smart stay and smart notifications, I really don't use many of the current S3 gimmicks and the S4 software gimmicks are just more of the same. Even google now is much more useful than s-voice.

I don't think you understood my post - I was suggesting that it would make good business sense for Samsung to make that leak (and some other posters have noted the same thing about the older leak).
The final S4 will face one order of magnitude more competition now than S3 did one year ago, so having bugs that result in many apps not working well or too much power consumption and so on would NOT be good for Samsung, and the only way to test that on a large scale (give that there are no large scale S4 deployment) would be to "fake leak" a 4.2.2 for S3 - which the S3 WILL get anyway in the final form at some point!
Usual is we get a leak its probably a beta test deliberate leak .
Then it takes a fair while before the genuine release rolls out .
XDA cheap beta testers .

Well not sure what to tell you. I get one over Kies for my s3 what doesn't update because handset was modified. And when I check on my s3 I get no updates allowed because it has been modified. If I wipe the whole phone the update shows on my s3 but again I can't install it.

Hi Folks!!! Samsung promised its Flagship devices Note-II and S3 a 4.2.2 update in the end of May 2013. Update includes most of the features available for Galaxy S4.
1. Real-time lingo-decoder S Translator.
2. Array of pointless camera features, such as Dual Shot, Dual Video
3. Smart Stay.
4. Smart Scroll.
5. S Health.
6. UI Changes including the Theme and Lock Screen Modifications in launcher.
Hope, Google's I/O 2013 can also bring out Note-II, S3 fantastic features a head...Fingers crossed..

Well, you can get back to stock in download mode, flashing with odin respective firmware of your region...make sure you have flash counter reset to zero, if not use triangle away so that your device again becomes genuine. ...

That's a really old release of 4.1.2. There are loads of 4.1.2 updates since then. That will be what you are getting prompted for. You're 6 months out of date.
I've been wondering when were they thinking about releasing this since the leak has been around since february (i think) and the S4 has been released already. But to be honest, I couldn't care less about those "features" for an update, all i want is multitasking fixed. Which i'm fairly sure we won't get. Samsung should stick with fixing the basics instead or pushing out mostly useless crap. Guess i'll stick with aosp and just get a nexus at some point...

Well I use arhd anyway so mot really care about if it outdated. Just saying that I was promoted for updates quite a lot. But with a custom Rom I do not care.

Here's the fun fact of the day for you, we will not get s health because it requires hardware our phone doesn't have.
And another freebie the page they got that from was a fan page not an official one so it's all rumour nothing more.

That's not really the point.
Your point was Kies tells you there is an update and that it must be 4.2
My point is you are on a 6 month old release. Any update Kies tells you available is not 4.2. It is one of the 30 4.1.2 releases newer than yours.

I did think about that since i read somewhere about the extra sensors involved, i just thought they'd adapt or disable functions that really required them or at least do it in a different way that wouldn't need said sensors - there's software to mesure heart rate with the camera, which isn't the most conventional way and, to be honest, if someone told me before that was possible i'd most likely dismiss it as a prank app/gimmick, but i did see it roughly working
