Hey everyone,
so I recently reflashed and rooted my phone and it seems as though my phone now refuses to vibrate.
I was wondering if anyone else had encountered this solution? I'm considering just reflashing again, but was wondering if there was another solution.
We need details. What rom and kernal are you using, also what baseband is it, di01 or dj05
So, it's the Verizon Fascinate model (So I think it's dj05).
I'm using stock ROM, with the jt1134 Voodoo Lag Fix Kernal.
Firmware: 2.1-update1
Baseband version: S:i500.04 V.DI01
Kernal version: 2.6.29
Build Number
SCH-I500.DI01
Sounds like youre using a a dj05 kernel on di01 firmware. That would probably cause your issues

Search the forums on how to disable voodoo, in case u are running that. Then flash a di01 compatible kernal. Check rom manager or on jt's threads. Also i would recomend updating to dj05 anyways, im using that whereas my wife is using di01. When we put our phones next to each other i had -76 where she had -97....... the lower the number to 0, the better.

I've searched, but couldn't find a clear answer. I'm rooted running JT's voodoo kernel (v4 I think) one of his ROMS, and the Matted Blue theme. Before I begin this process, I'm just curious if I need to disable voodoo/restore to stock before I apply the DJ05 update/voodoo5 (yes, I have the steps, and am competent enough to mod my phone).
I've got most of the requisite files, and was just going to do voodoo5 though the ROM manager when the base DJ05 update finished.
Thanks.
In my experience, it is alwaus a good idea to disable voodoo begorr changing rom or kernel. And have heard that some people could not get dj to take without disable_lagfix. Good luck

Dj05
Just my two cents and maybe it has to do with competence, lol, but I spent about 3 hrs yesterday removing voodoo to reinstall it because I didn't disable it initially when adding jt's clean .07 rom. Voodoo5 looked like it installed and it allowed me to use my bluetooth and a new theme I had just installed, but my haptic response wasn't there and I was getting a lot of FC's. I tried every basic fix I know and finally thought i got it only to get a quadrant score of 900.
tl;dr
I would uninstall any voodoo you have before you upgrade to DJ05
if you're going from an old voodoo to the newest voodoo, you will likely have problems if you don't disable it beforehand.

Does this apply if you are only going from an older voodoo5 based kernel to a newer version of that same kernel?
Thanks guys. I disabled, and updated to DJ without a hitch (so far at least). Probably hit up Voodoo5 a little later tonight. Do need to find a DJ kernel so I can get my haptic back though...
nmyeti, please do not quote me on this, but in my searches I did see people mentioning they were upgrading between Voodoo5 kernals without disabling. I probably would, just in case.
If you already have the dj05, can you install the voodoo 5 kernel over it with no problems?

If you loaded clean .7, you don't have a DJ05 kernel. Either load the voodoo5 or a DJ05 kernel(there are a few in rom manager) or load a Clean .3 - .5 - they have kernel built into them. Since you have your old DI01 kernel and DJ05, your haptic is broken.

I loaded the 11/29 kernel for DJ05 when i first flashed clean .7. This kernel had some strange audio popping etc, so i went to a geeknic version and that kernel had the same issues. I finally decided to try JT's voodoo 12/1 and that resolved the issue. I've upgraded to 12/2 without problem and then yesterday updated to 12/3 and all seems well.
Relatively new to the Android world. These Forums are awesome, its how I've managed to do everything i have. So first off, Nice Job!!! My Fascinate is my first Android phone. Had it for about a month so far. Already Bricked one, Even pushed stock files with Odin to no avail. But that's neither here nor there. Any who, pushed DJ05 Modem with Odin, Installed JT1134's SuperClean V. 0.7 (DJ05), and using JT1134's Voodoo 5 Kernel. In "About Phone" it says Baseband is "S:i500.04 V.DJ05" and Build is "SCH-I500.DJ05" and from what i understand Voodoo 5 is a DJ05 Kernel. So just wondering if anyone had some suggestions as to why i have no Haptic Feedback or any vibration functions at all for that matter. Aside from that i love it. GPS syncs much faster, Super smooth and fluid. Love the set up, just wish i had vibration. Any ideas?
what kernel did you install, as in the filename? Just to make sure it is in fact a voodoo5 kernel. Also, it'd probably be best to ask this in the same place you found DJ05.
Search...
You need a DJ05 kernel, there are some stupidfast kernels that are DJ05, and the newest voodoo's should be.

dang i hate this new thanks key...didnt mean to hit that
Yeah it's Voodoo 5. Downloaded it through Rom Manager. Said "Voodoo 5, 12/3, Stable"
Good idea, i'll definately check out IRC.
Any1 figure out the issue. I have the same problem running stupidfast 1.54 kernal and super dark 1.1
Install the voodoo in the dev section. Make sure its voodoo5 by jt

Considering 1.54 is a DJ05 kernel.
And Superdark 1.1 is a DI01 rom
I would see where your issues come into play.
Superdark DJ05 v1 HERE.
And it would make me question if you flashed the DJ05 modem in odin. For things to work right you need all 3 pieces of the puzzle. DJ05 modem, DJ05 rom, and DJ05 kernel.
good day.
I too am not getting haptic feedback. I did all 3 steps and have sense tried a different kernel. I guess when I get up in the morning I am going to start everything over from scratch if no one has any ideas. we will see how that works.
I went up to DJ05 and lost haptic feedback even though I did all three steps (modem, rom, and kernel.) I tried changing to both stupidfast dj05 kernels as well as both blackhole and superdark roms. I never had success.
I decided to go back to stock and first did this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=855900 with no suiccess. I realized I still had thre dj05 modem and did this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=867648. It now appears that I am completely back to stock but I still am not getting any haptic feedback.
Anyone got any ideas?
If you completely flashed the full DI01 package and returned literally everything to stock, I'm really not sure what it could be other than a hardware problem. Maybe someone else has some insight, but I just can't see how it would be anything else at that point.
Off-topic: That damn thanks button is too close to the quote button!
So, the vibrate does not work at all, it is not just haptic. I am going to see about getting it swapped. Can someone verify that these settings are stock and will keep me in the clear with Samsung:
Hardware: 1500.04
Firmware: SCH-I500
Baseband S:i500.04 V.DI01
Kernel: 2.6.29
Build NUmber: SCH-I500.DI01
I have searched the forum extensively looking for an answer to this, but haven't been able to find one.
When I flash a ROM, everything works perfectly. However, when I flash a kernel, it does not update the kernel in the 'about phone' section. I have tried it with numerous kernels on bonsai, midnight, and ACS. I also tried it with the Phoenix kernel on CM7, still no luck.
I odin'ed my phone back to stock and noticed that the kernel was slightly different than the current 2.6.32.9 one. I updated to EC05 and it returned my kernel to the aforementioned. Tried flashing a custom kernel, and still nothing.
Has anyone had this issue or have any ideas as to what I can do to fix it? My phone used to show the updated kernel, I believe, as I remember it listing the bonsai kernel when I flashed my first ROM (midnight 4.0).
Thanks in advance. This site has been a godsend for my phone, my fiancee's, my brother's, etc.
Not all kernels are coded to reflect the change in phone info.
Don't the rooting tools actually mod the kernel somehow? But they never appear functionally changed after the fact to me.
The build number is what changes with the different kernels
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
I thought the build number changed with the ROM. Thanks for the clarification.
Help please!
Just installed voodoo lagfix.
And it is going through a bootloop... I see the Vibrant boot screen, then Galaxy S Gt-i9000 boot screen, and some lady saying "not enough space on partition." Does this loop over and over.
What did I do wrong?
How can I resolve?
Was running deodexed/rooted KB5.
I just went into recovery and I'm disabling voodoo, lets see what that does.
Well with voodoo disabled my phone boots up again.
What am I doing wrong with voodoo enabled?
strange, most of the stuff on my phone is gone, I don't even have an Android Market now.
Which kernel did you flash? there's one kernel specificaly for 2.2 KB5 that is absolute stock with the only difference being that it has voodoo enabled...
It worked for me! First, flash the stock 2.2 UVKB5 deodexed/rooted ROM, then flash the stock kernel with voodoo enabled, there shouldn't be any issues...

Thanks, KB5 isn't listed though.
I'm going to try the link above posetd by ferhanmm.
I can flash the new kernel with current voodoo disabled without problems right? I don't have to odin back to stock?

Found it:

It should be safe to flash this kernel with voodoo disabled if you're still on stock Froyo 2.2 KB5 deodexed. After flashing this, it'll take like 10 min to do its magic (you'll hear the woman's voice telling you the status).
Actually is the same as ferhanmm posted up there

Thanks, flashed it, but my phone is still acting strange. For example, Android Market is completely missing.
I'm going to disable voodoo again, flash deodexed/rooted KB5 back, start fresh, and try installing Voodoo again. Hope I don't mess something up again.
ps...your link didn't work

That's strange, better to do a fresh start then.
Ps. i misspeled the link, but it's the same as posted by ferhanmm
Man this isn't my day.
I disabled voodoo
Reinstalled deodexed/kb5 using cwm
then tried installing the voodoo kb5 kernel, and my phone is in some strange screen I've never seen before
There is a picture of a box, with an arrow coming out of the box, pointing to the android man, with a progress bar on the bottom, but nothing is happening other than the progress bar spinning.
errrrr

I suggest doing a full wipe and Odin back to stock!!! from there, flash 2.2 kb5 and then the kernel with voodoo.
BTW, how are you flashing the kernel? I used an app called SGS Kernel Flasher, you can download it from the market...
Ok I think I'm ok now.
Got voodoo working.
Phone seems to still lag though, got to play with it some more.
My quadrant score is now 1400, if that even matters.
I was using cwm to flash the kernel.
Thanks to everyone above for their help
Awesome! glad you could make it work.
I would flash eclair with odin and reflash get all the ghosts out of the system that always works for me.
