If my phone were to be confiscated, is it possible to wipe it so that if they were to hook it up to a monitoring system to see any and all activity (such as if it were turned on and when, if calls were placed, messages sent, games played, etc) they wouldn't be able to check?

Yes I believe there are programs that allow you to remotely wipe the phone via a text message

Thanks for the reply, I didn't know you could do that. I really just want to know if I wipe data/cache via clockwork, will that erase any info leading to discovery of the use of my phone.
Basically, I work a job regulated by the federal government and they are extremely stringent on cell phone use (zero tolerance, even during lunch) but most everybody uses them. If something stupid happens, even if it's not my fault, they will confiscate and check my usage. If used, heavy fines are in order. If someone I'm working with makes a boo boo at work, can I wipe before the feds get their hands on it to rid my phone of its usage?

I dled an app called lookout security (I think)... I saw it on a droid x commercial so I thought it would be worth a try... you have to set up some stuff from the computer but I remember seeing an option they called 'nuke' where it deleted data and other things when you got on a computer and selected that option... don't know if that is exactly what you're looking for... hope I don't look like a complete moron

That is exactly what you need to do
Just know that information stored on a memory card will leave a trail behind much like a harddrive. To completely make it non-retrievable you would need to "scrub" the memory card. There are software available but it would mean you would have to remove the card and run it through the "scrub" via a computer. All that being said, they would really have to work to restore the erased information and I don't know what lengths your employer is willing to go to to catch you.
Great responses, folks! Thanks!

Hey guys ..I just noticed that there is a History of all my texts and there is no way to delete or clear this. Im not talking about the regular text message screen Im talking about the "history" screen.
Does anyone know how to remove this information?
thanks.
Whaere is the history part? I just checked mine and don't see any history?

None. At all. At least none i can see. I use launcher pro so i just hid my contacts but that still doesn't take care of the fact that its there. If you delete the contact then add it again it works but that a TON of trouble!
Please, if anyone knows anyway at all to get rid of this, even the entire screen as opposed to just the info, lemme know! What a PITA.

Quick google search on this and apparently motorola and verizon are swamped with complaints about not being able to delete the history. Supposedly will be addressed with a software update? No ETA though...

I have figured out that if the contact isn't linked then it doesn't seem to show up...... could be totally wrong tho.

I doubt the memory footprint is significant. There are a number of system information apps/gadgets that will show you how much free storage you have, or just check it out in the settings.
The bigger concern is for privacy issues. IMHO
I agree about privacy. How are u supposed to have a girlfriend and then other girls on the side with this? Come on moto think about us unfaithful lying cheaters out here!!!how am i supposed to keep my girlfriend from knowin about all my infidelities? Lol. As the heartbreak kid i must have privacy!!!

So i got this phone about a month ago and it came with no software what so ever.
Is there anything we can download to at least back this phone up?
It seems extremely cheap to provide no software with a phone designed to be plugged into a computer
drivers are avaliable on samsungs site. other than that have to searched the market for back up programs? i know some have been talked about on here so a search might net you some info.
Exactly what do you want to back up? Contacts and calendar back up to gmail automatically, as do any photos you upload to picasa. Files on the sd card are not lost in a wipe. If you root, apps will back up via titanium. When froyo hits they will back up automatically and restore if you wipe or replace your device.
I might not be understanding the question.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
I don't think I've ever seen ANY Android phone come with any software out of the box. Any drivers you need can be downloaded, and there is no official Android sync software, though you can download one of many third party syncing applications that are available. What exactly are you comparing the Fascinate to in this regard?

I could backup everything, mess with new hybrid os's and if i didnt like it, click on the last restore point and it would be right there. ive never had an android before, so this is new to me, and i will be having this phone for two years now, so i figure its time to start learning

I've read that rooting with Gingerbreak works with the latest update, but also might erase the internal storage. Exactly what part of the internal storage might be erased? EVERYTHING, or just installed apps, ringtones, music, etc...?
Anything on internal storage, if u click on app files and go to internal storage anything there, so if u don't put apps on sd ur fine but some of its files it saves will be gone

Yes

And..... another question. Is a microSD card actually required for it, or no?
I never remove my sd so I am not sure
Sent from my MB860 using XDA Premium App
Yes an external SD card is required. You will be prompted to have one when you first install gingerbreak. I had to go out and buy one.
just copy su file in /osh/bin with some name. your root will be preserved.

Hi!
Does anybody know what this battery update is. I got it as an update and to unlock the full features, I had to pay 3€per month!
I immediately unistalled this.

What are you referring to? No link.
It sounds suspicious though.
It came like a system update and then it installed a battery app that monitored my battery behavior and wanted me to pay 3€ per month ;-)
This is the first time I see something like this on my android phones!?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk
I've never heard of anything like that. It does sound very suspicious.
As you say, probably scareware/malware.
Now I have to look for an app to remove what ever is doing this ;-)
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk
It is probably related to an app you have already installed. Go through any apps you aren't sure are from trusted sources/devs.
Thanks for the tip, I will check my apps. All my apps are from market place, its sad if we cannot trust the market?
Regards
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk
The sad thing is mate you can't trust the market. You have to be careful what your installing!
Always check what permissions needs the app you are downloading depends of the type you dl it should need the right permissions. So lets say you dl a game and it needs permission for your contacts and call services then it is up to you to dl it I would never. And as long the developers have no other way to get cash they implant ofc in their apps some advertises so be carefully all the time.
And market is like Facebook a no money platform that helps people to find things, but it moment check what it provides, it is on the user to report bad apps. So many people abuse that.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using XDA App
Thanks a lot, I will try to be careful, and read before accepting anything this time.
Regards
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk
Are you serious?
Lol that's one of the scammiest things I've ever heard of.
If I were you I'd factory reset, and in future only install well reviewed and tested apps.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk
As a rule of thumb, I don't click on any links from any app, except the browser
I use a program that lets you assign permissions to any app. Anything that I install that I don't think needs to access contacts, location etc, I just block.
It has a side benefit of blocking the stupid ads in the apps also.
Try to use "LBE privacy guard" from the market its free!
NEED ROOT!
With this app u can control every app u installed give and take permissions!
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.lbe.security.lite&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5sYmUuc2VjdXJpdHkubGl0ZSJd
I had one of these updates in my notification menu. Never installed it though.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using XDA App
I get this when I play certain games.
its just an in game advert made to look official which links to an app in the market.
It reads something like " You have two Battery updates available"
Download addon detektor then you can see whats causing the the push ad
And remove that battery thingy its probably the one that steals your contacts for spam

Unfortunately you have been hit by a 'Scareware' attack.
As Android is becoming more popular and unlike Apple which has tighter control the Android OS is much more open to attacks such as this.
You really have to be on your guard watching for these malicious attacks.
Read the comments from PCWorld and 2Viruses for a greater explanation.

This should not be impossible to do with an app. Even with tasker, it is possible to create an app (app factory) that will have a trigger (sms sent or sms received or phone call received or phone call placed), and send a text to a predetermined number with details of the sent/received text or the tel# called. And these text messages can be set to not be stored on the phone.
Yes, I think this will work, because I have set my phone up with such a tasker profile (created an app from that profile, and hid it from the app drawer) - so that if my phone is lost, I can send it a specific text message, and it will respond back to me (at a predetermined phone# with GPS coordinates of the phone), without leaving a trace of the message with GPS coordinates on my phone.
It should be possible to change this to intercept any sms message (incoming or outgoing), and send that message to another phone#
Or, she may just have access to your buddy's service provider's account details (log in to the website, see incoming/outgoing call details easily)

Sounds kinda like cerberus. If your friend flashed the stock rom like mdc or mdl he should be able to remove the app. I know there is a setting to hide the app. And if he had root you can make the app non-removable. The only way to remove it is to flash the complete stock rom.
