You realize this was written in June?
You realize we all already know Froyo is coming sometime September?
In fact I think I remember reading something on these forums about the first week of september. Come on.
Well is it for sure coming early september and I'm just trying to help.

don't hate.
yeah man, we all know this. let's move on.
I'm just disappointed that people won't look around before posting stuff like this. It is very sad.
It doesn't disappoint me. For some reason I am not bothered by repetative posts. Sometimes searching doesn't work well, or just isn't worth the time, etc.
People work in different ways. Besides, it sounds so elitist to get on peoples cases about what they post, just ignore the posts that aren't of interest to you.

I'll believe it when I see it. Samsung has a HORRIBLE track record when it comes to updates.
HTC and Motorola have already upgraded all of their high end android devices (the Droid Incredible just got the update today). Samsung already has 2.2 running on their 7" tablet, so it is pretty fair to criticize them for being slower than their American and Chinese counterparts.
I think there's a fair chance that T-mobile will release the G2 (Sept. 29, 2010) before the Vibrant gets 2.2 update.
Samsung is most likely waiting for all of the Galaxy S phones to be released before pushing froyo. With the Epic coming this weekend and the Fascinate probably coming 9/9, froyo isn't far away. Mid September, about a week after the Fascinate release is my guess.

They've also been out longer... I'm also pretty sure 2.2 is already done for the U.S. Just working out extra kinks in it so naturally 2.2 on the tab that'll be released later on would have 2.2. It had to derive from somewhere. Just sit tight everyone it'll be here soon. If Samsung delivers on time then we would have the shortest wait for a 2.2 update out of all the Androids. I'm definitely okay with that.
I'm more interested in a fix ASAP for the calendar bugs (events are deleted when they're edited, etc.) which I've mentioned on another thread. Hope that comes along with the Froyo update. (Or, heck, just give us the standard Android calendar app -- the Samsung one looks nice, but I can't touch events on it due to these bugs.)
i hope we get it in september, but not holding my breath. samsung and tmobile (usa) have not 100% committed to giving us 2.2 in september... so no, its not confirmed

I think we just need to let these types of posts get buried, if you see a repeated post just don't reply, by replying to it you keep it alive...just like I'm doing now...
...Just let it die on it's own...that will save you a lot of disgruntled typing.

We should. On Milestone 1 is CM7 by kabaldan. It is using Froyo kernel, but it is really Gingerbread. But currently, I think its bad with our MM2 comunity ...
While the hardware is capable, I think you'll find that you wont see a release any time soon from Motorola as it may effect sales of their newly released 2.3 units.
The locked boot loader is a great marketing tool, some might even agree that its one of the primary reasons it was implemented.

I would not be as dramatic, the same as with MS1 we have to wait and see.
Well... maybe a Cyanogem release for all of us... Just maybe.. But that is fact: Motorola is using Android updates as a selling tool, doing few hardware or software improvements and putting the marketing focus in the Android version that comes onboard. Their Motoblur is so leggy that I had to flash another rom. That is one of the reasons why Milestone 1 is faster than Defy even on lower hardware. My next try will be a HTC or Sony Ericsson for sure.

I would love to see the Gingerbread on the MS2 but all we know how is... Just take a look here - There's nothing even about the US Droid 2

pretty sure i read a quote on phandroid about a week ago from one of the motorola execs boasting that they will be one of the first to roll out gingerbread across their range.
people need to remember that an update isnt just one file that works on all phones. some phones have hundreds of variations. the upgrade has to be tested on all of them, then also approved by the individual network carriers for each region. a time consuming and complicated process. theyve got a lot more red tape to go through compared to freelance custom rom makers.
You mean what? MS2 gonne get the GB? Show us where did U read that. I want to see it in the flesh
I just read that Motorola wants to change its update policy. Make updates more frequent and sooner available.
Im with you when you say its a lot of work- but if they did what you describe they can just as well inform us and tell us an ETA. After all its not as hard as reiventing the wheel...

now that motorola is releasing the Droid x2?
Both phones have the tegra 2 chip and motoblur but the droid x2 is releasing with gingerbread out of the box. If motorola has developed GB for this release, maybe a GB update for the Atrix isn't far behind.
Just trying to keep my hopes up.
I would tend to agree. Is it launching with 2.3.3 or 2.3.4?

I think you just answered your own question right there. Why invest more in QA and further development in "skinning" and slowing down 2.3 with Motoblur, if ICS is truly coming soon. However, it's Motorola and we all know their stance on customers' demands.
They have done a nice job in customer response for the atrix

The latest from the official Moto forums gives some hope for a timely GB release:
juniorsgv: i like the refer to link by forum manager. (later this year for 2.3), quarter 4, ice cream supposed to be released. so basically we will be behind everyone else. terrible for first android device they touted to be most powerful and dual core. i won't be buying motorola in the future after this one.
Mark (Forums Manager): You're probably referring to previous posts that included a link here. I think you're pessimistically looking at the "later this year". Soon as we get closer to the release date I anticipate we'll put up better information on our Android Upgrade News page as well.

Motorola are a bunch of SOB. They do this with EVERY major phone they release and it REALLY pisses me off Is it so hard to say something and then commit to it? Specially when Gingerbread has already been released for other Motorola models with a very similar configuration to the Atrix. It's very very frustrating having a phone like the Atrix that doesn't live to it's full potential due to poor build implementation. Is Motorola that stupid not to realize that once gingerbread hits the Atrix it will sell more and people will be happier with their product?!
You think motorola don't want to update all phones first of all the other companies?
The more fastest updates, the more developers/money they need..
Why they unlocked the bootloader?
To get more people to atrix...
And why before a couple of weeks..
To earn some time, and keep us busy and satisfied, to forget the upcoming update!!
Anyway.. Can't wait too for the update..

I'm starting to to get anxious about the about update too. My wife's 7in Galaxy Tab (Sprint model) is getting Gingerbread this week, why not my Atrix.
As a person that owned 3 Motorola android phones - their update policies really piss me off.
They took forever to bring Froyo to Milestone, and still their final release contained a crappy kernel with error.
Now they are taking forever with GB for D2G and Atrix... If they don't keep their promise with unlocked bootloaders, this surely will be my last Motorola phone.
If my memory serves me right it was supposed to be the 11th. July when we got the update, so I for one will wait till at least the 12th. before I start moaning.

FYI, It's only July 7th, and a few days ago was a weekend and holiday. We are technically only 3 business days into July. Be patient.
You can always flash the leaked 2.3.4 build if you really can't bear to wait for the update.
to be honest, i can stand to wait a little longer so long as gingerbread is bug free.
the only thing i really want is a smoother browser. my last phone was a nokia n900, had that thing overclocked to 1.2ghz. whilst flash videos werent that great since it didnt really support flash 10 (no gpu accel), its browser was much faster and smoother.
sure you can argue that the atrix can render more pixels on the screen at any given time, but whats the point if its not smooth.
i also want to see if motorola have optimised motoblur. if its smoother, then i'll leave it as is. if not, im flashing this thing.

You bought the phone with Froyo, knowing it had Froyo, knowing it did not have GB, and Motorola has not said anything about a July release of GB. There has been mention in the past week or so on the Motorola boards of an upcoming soak test, that is all. Anything you read on other sites about release in July or any other time is pure speculation.
It doesn't matter which other devices have GB, the Atrix doesn't. Do you realise how much time it takes to develop, test, test, test these operating systems? Companies are not like the devs on the board here. They have procedures to follow, both internal and external. They quality test before releasing anything, hardware or software, then test some more.
I am sure Motorola does not want to release a buggy GB and are trying their best to give us a release which works as well as possible, so chill out and get off your high horse. Rome wasn't built in a day, and the world won't end if we have to wait a wee bit longer for GB on the Atrix.

It’s always a pleasure to be the bearer of good news, especially when it comes to sharing with people what we know about an impending arrival of Ice Cream Sandwich on their Android devices. But before we do, we just want to make sure you know that this hasn’t been fully confirmed yet by Verizon. With that in mind, owners of Motorola Droid RAZR may want to mark down June 12 on their calendar, as that’s the date that Verizon apparently will roll out the ICS update for the two Droids.
According to internal sources quoted by CNET, the OTA update to Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich for both Droid RAZR and RAZR Maxx will be pushed out on June 12. While there were plans to bring it out earlier, there was an issue with the server that was supposed to deliver the update — hopefully that’s been dealt with now.
The June 12 date certainly still falls in line with what Motorola has written on its website, where the ICS upgrade roll out for Droid RAZR and RAZR Maxx is expected to start in Q2 2012. In this case, the end of the second quarter more like. As always, we’ll let you know once we have more details. Feel free to share with our readers if you have some information or heard otherwise about the ICS update for the Droid RAZR and Droid RAZR Maxx.
let's wish motorola atrix 4g will get it in early july

What's up with all these threads on ICS for non-Atrix phones?
Motorola said Q2 for the Droid RAZR. Q2 is almost at an end. If that's any indication of future performance, ICS for the Atrix may not come until closer to Q4.
Maybe this is great new for us. That update might have something usefull for our devs. Of course, not drivers, but maybe our very first Blur ICS Rom. plus Webtop 3.0 (Tablet ICS). Idk, maybe im too positive Lol.
I wouldn't be surprised if Motorola decides to push it back in late Q4.

I wouldn't be surprised if at&t blocks it all together to try to get people to buy there already ics enabled phones. Or if they dont have a selection to block it so people will hold out for the next newest thing they'll get.
I'm hoping we'll see the soak test at the end of July and OTA by August just like last year's Gingerbread update.

I still think late Q3/early Q4. IMO the carriers will be more to blame getting their bloat on there. Then again all it really takes is one carrier worldwide, and CM9 will truly be in full effect.
I could care less about stock anyway. Once CM pulls out what it needs, I'll be wiping my phone for some CM9 goodness...

The European Atrix is not very likely going to get ICS - back in February they first marked it as coming in Q3 and then set it back to Evaluation & Planning.
So I wouldn´t be suprised if they cancel the Update for North America. See, the Atrix is 1.5 years old and although it still can be regarded as "High End", there are other, newer phones from Motorola in the pipeline. Call me glass-half-empty, I´m just realistic. Motorola, like any other company, has to make profit and shelling out money for an update for an outdated device (yes, it can be considered as such since there is already an Atrix 2) is just a service.
I still hope to see my Atrix rocking fully functional ICS, but I wouldn´t be suprised if it never happened.
Just my 2 cents

I hear what your saying, but I think the update is more of a public relations move. Our phone was only 8 months old when ics came out. There was lots of negative feedback towards moto for the response time about ics. If they dropped support on a flagship phone they would lose customers indefinitely.

This makes little sense.
If a customer sees that their device is "old" compared to others, and realizes that the issue is lack of support from Moto, the response will be to buy another brand of phone.
On the scale of things, it is not a big effort for Moto to release for other devices based on the same platform. I would imagine the true engineering effort is almost nothing, and the bottleneck is just getting it thorugh QA.
I would be very surprised to not see an AtrixG4 released in August.

I love my Atrix, and don't see any other device, for now, to replace to. However, I really doubt if I will buy another Moto device, with the only excepsion of a Moto-made Nexus. Moto's policy of locking the bootloaders, along with a very questionable updating history probably burned Moto's future for me, which is quite a shame since I really love their building quality and simple-and-non-cloned designs.
