[Q] [n00b] ported ROM versus AOSP built ROM

I'm an old Android vet (Nexus One plus NOOKcolor) but this is my first foray into the Leo.
I see some ROMs that are listed as ports (I image ROM dumps basically) from devices like the Desire. I also see some ROMs that appear to be built from the AOSP source.
I intend to run Android from the NAND of my TMOUS Leo. Is there a speed/performance penalty for running a ported ROM versus a custom-built ROM from the AOSP tree?

Samsung Roms Simple Suggestion

Hi Developers. Novices and newbies get confused between Stock Roms and Custom Roms terms. What I feel That all company officcial firmware with official kernels may be called simply as Samsung Roms while all other Roms such as modified roms, tailermade roms, etc leaked romas may be termed as Custom Roms (as they are being called now). Andriod OS may added. Sumsung GB Rom, Samsung ICS Rom- Custom GB Rom, Custom ICS roms. So the other company roms-htc rom, motorolo rom, sony rom etc.
The distinction makes more sense if they're called Touchwiz/stock-based roms and AOSP/CM/Kang roms. What you suggest will only serve to lengthen the name of a ROM which is already for Samsung Galaxy Note GT-N7000 (remember that ROMS can be found outside of Note-only forums, as well as using Google, and it's important to have the device name.)

What version is the Andriod

Hey guys what Version most updated of android for HTC HD2 US is available??
thx
Have you looked in the nand section? Take your pick, there are eclair roms froyo roms gingerbread roms, honeycomb roms, icecreamsandwiCJ roms and jellybean roms. I can tell you that jellybean is so close to totally stable, its easily useable as a daily driver.

Nexus stock VS AOSP difference

I have just rooted my newely aquired Nexus 7 land want tot install a custom ROM. At least i think i do. Can someone please explain to me what the difference is between the stock nexus 7 and an aosp rom.
I have always had custom ROMs installed on my S3 and there the difference is pretty clear. Here it seems like stock and aosp are the same. So maybe a stock based ROM like cleanrom would be a good choice?
Don't forget AOKP!
I would also like this clarifying in laymans terms, as AOSP and AOKP pickle me !

Yes, AOSP is Google unmodified rom (base for other vendors like HTC .. etc)
Nexus 7 is Google device = AOSP rom
AOKP rom and Cyanogenmod is an open source replacement firmware for smart phones and tablet computers based on the Android mobile operating system. It offers features and options not found in the official firmware distributed by vendors of these devices. (wiki quote)
Great. So installing Paranoid Android would basically give me Nexus 7 stock with some added features.
Exactly what I was after.

I need help on my tmobile galaxy s 2

I can't use my hotpot on my sgh t989 galaxy phone anybody help me
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda app-developers app
Best way (in my opinion) is to root that device, flash a new recovery and install a new firmware (ROM). For a Galaxy S2 its fairly easy since it has a huge userbase and is therefore good supported. Here you can find guides for all the necessary steps http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s2/general
Nice side effect: You get rid of all the unuseful (in my eyes) stuff TMobile bakes into their ROMs.
I personally would suggest you try one of the Android 4.4 ROMs (I personally only know Cyanogenmod and OmniROM), they are running stable, fast and have the latest Android version.
Of course you can also stick to original unbranded Samsung ROMs which include the tethering functionality without limitations.
However, TMobile claims to implement different optimizations for their net in their ROMs. You would lose these optimizations until you go back to a TMobile branded ROM.
