Yeah, MyMobiler will do that, the button for it is right next to the one for capturing stills
Oh very cool. Thanks! I have installed that and I'll check out what I needed to.
Thanks again!
Are there any internal apps out there that do the same thing?

No problem I'm afraid I've never seen any phone-based apps that will capture video...there's a number of them that will do stills, but none that I've seen will do vid too.

Epic not rotating pictures correctly

Pictures taken in PORTRAIT (with just holding the phone straight up) do not save EXIF data correctly, and are shared as LANDSCAPE when "Shared" to Messaging, Gmail, etc. This is ****ing embarrassing.
You can try out Camera 360. I love that app and use it as my default photo app, I have the paid version. It might resolve your issue. Since I have not gotten my phone yet I cannot test to see if it works.
Link to free version.

You sure it's not just your web browser, or Gmail? I haven't checked in a while, but Exif rotational data was rarely used in browsers in recent history. Try opening your photo using the new version of Picasa to see if it's rotated correctly.
No, it is still screwed up. Take a picture in portrait. Then click "Share" to Messaging, Gmail, Facebook, whatever. It will preview as a sideways (landscape) photo, thus looking stupid.
It does preview that way, have you confirmed it sends that way?
Picture related, my panorama shots do not work, I get panorama failed pop up

Yes, I've confirmed that it "shares" that way to Messaging, Gmail and Picasa, and of course Facebook.
Interestingly enough, the original Droid has this problem. It doesn't seem to bother anyone. This is a huge bummer. No idea how to fix this.
Also after taking a photo, and previewing it, the whole screen orientation is in Landscape, no matter what you do. Keyboard open, keyboard closed - all the same. That's frustrating as well. Anyone got any ideas or insight?
Try using a photo editor such as PicSay and rotating the picture into landscape. Then maybe when you send it, it will send the right way
That definitelyorks, although I prefer Photoshop Express. But that is an honest unecessary hassle.

Bugs the hell out of me.
As far as I can tell there is no portrait mode on the Epic - that's why all of the controls are locked to landscape mode and rotating the phone doesn't do shiz.
I really hope they fix this.

Yeah, I noticed that too. The EVO 4G used to be like that, but in the Froyo 2.2 update they made it so the controls will auto-orientate to portrait mode. But, when you used to take photos pre-Froyo, they would always rotate correctly.
I've been rotating my photos in Photoshop Express but holy **** it compresses the hell out of them, making them go from 1MB~ to almost 30kB. Anyone have any ideas?
Same issue on my Vibrant

Maybe our Froyo update will fix the whole shebang. I really hope that Samsung didn't just frak me over with a crippled crappy phone that doesn't get bug fixes like they did with my Intrepid (the bastard child of Windows Mobile and Samsung) - Galaxy S is their flagship and they need to get on top of stuff.
I am not getting this issue. Can you give me the steps to duplicate it?
I pressed the camera button.
I took a portait picture.
I went into gallery.
I shared with both Picasa and emailed via gmail to myself.
In both it was displayed as Portait.
I noticed this last night. It's extremely annoying. Have to go on photoshop express as well.

Again, I am not getting this issue at all. Can someone detail how to duplicate it?
This could be a usage pattern thing. I detailed how I did it, and it works fine. What are you guys doing differently? If needed I can make a video showing that it works for me.

I am doing the exact same thing as what you're doing, and still getting pictures showing up as landscape, when they were taken with the phone held straight up.
Do you notice after you take a picture and click the PLAY button from the camera UI, the whole "preview" mode is in landscape?

No, in preview they are also correctly in Landscape. Perhaps you need to have the phone in portrait when you start the camera application?
Even while the camera app is loaded I took one picture in Landscape, then Portrait. Both displayed correctly in preview and after emailing.
I can feel your frustration though, that would be lame if it didn't do that. I will make a video tonight, not sure if it will help, but it might give you hope. As a last resort maybe you should try a hard reset back to defaults? I hate to recommend that, but it might work. Seeing as mine works and I have not tweaked anything camera related.
p.s. This might not be related, but I did not get the OTA patch after starting my phone, my GF's epic did. So my phone shipped already patched. I will test her camera tonight as well.
Settings > About Phone > Hardware Version = D700.0.5
my phone does the same thing and it annoys me A LOT

If you are running KitKat, there is the new screen recording built into the OS, accessible through the command
Code:
adb shell screenrecord
or through the android device manager in eclipse.
Otherwise, don't expect good results because if not built into Android, it's kinda hard to record on a high frame rate without slowing everything down
thank you

There are some root tolls to do it without Kitkat like this one: http://lifehacker.com/scr-screen-recorder-for-android-captures-high-quality-s-995276159
I'd recommend using the adb method though. If your app isn't fast, improve it.

I did not mean that my application is slow, but it does not need to be fast So do you know any tricks to screencast directly in my application without android 4.4 and without being root?
thank you

There seems to be an app in the play store that can do it: Screencast.
I haven't used it so can't say if it works well, let me know how it does!
Edit: Fail you need root... Better read before everything else xD
Edit2: Found a nice article that could help you here.

I can vouch for screencast - we used it for promo videos a while ago and it does a good job (needs root though)
Thank you but I need to be not root... I think it's is possible to take screen capture (image), so is it possible to add a lot of images (of screen capture) in a video directly by an application?
Thank you

Wait... you want to create an app that offers that kind of functionality to other apps or do you want to capture the main content of your application???
If you want to make an app for this functionality, without root I don't see an option to do that. For your own app, you can try to constantly call getDrawingChache() on your view on top of your view hierarchy and then write that bitmap to a file... But I dougt that will give good results, as it is not working on a surfaceView for instance.

(Question) Use device as monitor (HDMI-in)

Hi everyone,
Can't really find this question anywhere, maybe I haven't looked hard enough.
Basically I have managed to use a video capture card combined with a OTG cable to use my Samsung as a monitor for my games.
My question is, do you think there is any possible way reverse the way a MHL cable works and use it to actually receive video data instead of send it?
See video attached of my video capture working on my android. It's pretty cool!
https:// youtu.be/se-PdC4dRHA
(^^^ can somebody please attach this video as I do not have enough posts to attach links)
Thanks!

Probably not possible... There is a reason a monitor is the input device and the phone is output.
It would probably be easier to figure out how to do it wirelessly such as through WiFi Direct as then you have Software obstacles not hardware.

Freeform Window Mode Appears to Work on Mate 9

I followed the directions in a recent post on XDA about utilizing Freeform Window Mode to see if it worked on Mate 9. Short answer is it does!
It allows you to, for example, play a video on YouTube and do something else in a different window like type a message. It's a little rough on the edges but definitely usable.
Here is a link to article with instructions if you missed it.

Yes! Don't know how to do that yet.
Here are a few screen shots to show what it looks like on Mate 9. In the screen shot with the recently used apps shown, if you touch the rectangular icon on the top of the app's frame it returns the app to the screen in a floating resizable form again.
HI @mscion
Did you use adb? Will it stay after restart if I use the adb?
Thanks,

Yes to both questions! The app taskbar, that is described in the post I reference works pretty well too. It opens a window you can scroll through all your apps and then select one to open in a floating resizeable window. One thing I noticed is that, when opening an app from recents, it sometimes hangs, not sure if that is related to the the launcher I use. The overall user experience is not as developed as what you would find on the Samsung Note devices but it is quite usable. Plus it won't pause a Youtube video if you change focus to another window. Here is a screen shot with the taskbar window open.
Just did it. Works well. Not sure if I will use it anytime soon though.

Glad it worked! Mate 9 screen is still a bit small to do much with floating windows. Same with Samsung Note series. If one can broadcast screen on a larger monitor might come in handy using a bluetooth keyboard to write a document or some other multitasking.

Just picked up Chromecast Ultra. Does a nice job of broadcasting Mate 9 screen to tv monitor. Floating windows appear to look OK so in principle you could have a desktop experience. Some pictures off my monitor.
