Hi,
when trying to update i get the msg :
finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package..
E:Failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
installation aborted
After doing some google i tryed renaming the package to update.zip and update manual, but did not work. i tryed redownloading, using other memory cards but nothing seems to wokr.
I got perm root using this method :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=HTC_Vision#Rooting_the_G2
And than OCed to 1.2Ghz.
Any idea how to fix this ? is this becaus of the rooting ???
It would help if you said what you are trying to update from and to. i.e. what ROM you have now, on which phone, and what update.
e.g. are you talking about the G2 OTA or the DZ OTA, or something else entirely ?
If it's the DZ OTA, you realise you'll lose your root, right ? (see threads in the dev forum).

Oh im Sorry, im updating Desire Z using settings menu to version 1.72.405.2..
I know i will loose Root and im ok with that, just want to have an updated phone.
Regards,
Roach
How are you overlocked ? If you have a different kernel from stock, I wonder if that's the problem ?
Yes I'm the same here on desire Z. Do I need to remove clockworkmod to apply the update ? and if so how do you remove it.
Removed the 1 ghz kernel and now back to stock 800mhz and still no luck
Same at my phone.
But i have no other kernel or an other FW. I have permrooted the phone and did a s-off.
Another thing i did was deleting some apps from the stock DZ rom with titanium backup. Could this the cause that we cant update?

Hmm, i updated all the stock apps... so that could be it ?
Are you guys using clockworkmod recovery? If so, try flashing back the stock recovery and update.

When will telus htc hero 2.1 rooted be released?
Will the rooted 2.1 be as stable as htc?
I used to have my hero rooted, but then did nandroid and brought it back to normal. However, i forgot to get rid of everything completely. Therefore, i have the system boot thing still left which stops me from updating. I get this error
E:No signature (218 files)
E:Verification failed
Installation aborted
That said, how do i bring everything as it used to be when i got it? ANy great risk of phone bricking?
You can unroot completey using an ruu.
The rooted 2.1 Roms are just as stable as the HTC ones as they just have one extra file in to make it rooted.
IF YOU FLASH THE OFFICIAL HTC 2.1 YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO ROOT EVER AGAIN!

That's incorrect. You might not be able to root the official 2.1 EU now (as its not released) but the other release of 2.1 to china or where has already been rooted, they will never be able to make a root proof phone.
I have the Official 2.2 Version and system version is 2.3.15.MB810.Verizon.en.US i was just rooted.. and i unrooted it to get the OTA upgarde but downloads but fails the installation .. i have tried doing it Manually and i get E: Error in /sdcard/update.zip (status 7) does anyone know how to fix this or do i just root myself back and intall a room .. im getting little frustrated i dont even know if it worth it to intall the new version
i guess no repplies or no ideas well let me upgrade my post so i did factory reset .. and my phone didnt go back to 2.1 stay on 2.2 it did clear all the other applications but im missing the ones i deleted .. blockbuster .. and voice mail. and verizons.. those kinds .. i try to do OTA and it fail... do i need to find applications witch the phone came with and try to upgrade or how can i go back now to 2.1 stock ... ???
A factory reset does not reinstall stock apps, all it does is delete user data and apps. You need to sbf or find a stock odexed rom.
I had the same problem. I downloaded the "back to stock odexed".zip from 928droid.com and was able to install the new OTA update afterward.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
ok that helps more. ill try to find the odex rom and try to donwloaded like you guys said see if that works thanks ill keep you updated ...
im not rooted right now can i used these two ways .. iether with odx or sbf ???
I believe you have to be rooted to install themes/roms. (in reference to the 928 back to stock odexed).
Someone please correct me if I am wrong.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
Right, you must be rooted to flash
If you're not rooted there shouldn't be any problems accepting the OTA
I tried to do the 928droid back to stock to do the update and it didn't work and I didn't remove nothing.
sent from a 1.45 ghz cracked out 928DroidX
Well guys I did like almost 8hrs of research. I got my 2.2. Back to stock using. The right sbf. Then after that I upgrade. 0ta. And im now on 2.2.1. 340. What a day. To do it I. Downloaded the 2.2. 315. Sbf. And used. Rds

my phone was originally on 3g.

What version of Android has it got? Also use Unrevoked 3 first!
Its currently Rooted and has a custom rom on it 2.2.1.

Oops! Misread your question, thought you said root not unroot!
Do you know what radio it had originally? You should be able to find one on the shipped ROMS site.
Sorry
EDIT: By the way, did you make a goldcard? Did it decline it?
i dont remember what radio it had on thier. However, i updated the radio from a link i seen on the Wildpuzzle rom thread.
it oringnally had 3 software on there.
i want to unroot it with debranded firmware.
ive tried this
RUU_Buzz_HTC_WWE_1.25.405.1_Radio_13.45.55.24_3.35.15.3
1_release_142189_signed.exe...
and im recieving the error mentioned above
thnk
I assume you have looked here? http://shipped-roms.com/index.php?category=android&model=Buzz
Hi, yes thats were i downloaded the firmware.
but im recieving errors when using the update
Do you want Froyo? If you do then this "should" work. HERE
You will NOT be able to re-root on that ROM.
Or if you don't want it then try this Eclair ROM HERE
Give them a try and tell me what happens!
Hope that helps you
Hi, i want to reroot in the future so i wont go for the froyo update.
just to be sure, if i update using the eclair update will i be able to still root in the future?
im still recieving the same error it goes all the way to writing signiture and then just shows the error.

I'm assuming the 3 you're on is 3UK? You could try to install it as a gold card if you know how.
EDIT: Here's how to create one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=572683
I just succesfully unrooted the device. After making a Goldcard. djdevine2 your help was much appreciated.
Thanks

You're welcome. I'm still learning too!
Does anyone know when unrEVOked will be able to find a root for the Wildfire on 2.2.1? I hope they find it soon. From how much they've been delaying it seems like they just don't want to even try. Should I disable the Search online for updates feature so my phone stops updating?
* They will release it when they want to. We have no option or control over them. If they want to try, it is their wish, if they don't want to try, again it is their wish. Live with it.
* If you are already on 2.2.1, there's no point disabling search for updates because it is extremely unlikely there will be any.
*Sigh*, why cant you read already existing threads before creating another one? Is it too hard?
omfg! seems like you have disabled search function for this forum, this topic gets posted at least once a day

WildPuzzle 2.2.1 (Or rather, ANY custom ROM), removes the updated HBOOT. So, obviously, 2.2.1 will be rootable in such cases.

so using a custom rom over the top of a stock 2.2.1 as i did makes the wildfire rootable again?

No. You will not be able to use a Custom ROM over Stock 2.2.1 because installing a Custom ROM requires root.

dont know how i managed it but thats what i've done
If I understood what you said, then I dont think you have installed the official 2.2.1 update. I cant see that anywhere in your post. (Saying you applied the official 2.2.1 update).
When you went back to the Stock ROM, it was still at 2.1, which is why the HBOOT was still at 0.80. To install the official update, from the Stock ROM, you would have to accept the OTA Update, and then install it, which I don't think you did.

Not possible. There is some error in communication somewhere, but, if it were possible to directly put Custom ROMs over the official 2.2.1, we wouldnt have had threads like this everyday.
unless after you rooted and flashed, you then installed a ruu then updated you did not have 2.2. when you went back did you restore a nandroid backup?
you are able to install ota update on rooted phone

this is the rom i used to get the 2.2 upgrade http://www.megaupload.com/?d=LF2TWEHJ
But isn't it possible to modify oryginal rom from HTC to downgrade HBOOT , and then make Wildfire rootable? Or make some crash in HBOOT witch will allow to root? That's a lot of ways, is it possible that HTC make Wildfire really unrootable on 2,2,1? That they make unlockable bootloader? Like a motorola?
Guys help me ,
I have Motorola Atrix 4g running with froyo 2.2.2 ... Yesterday I receive notice via OTA that gingerbread ready to download ... After download finish I'm install the package but the package failed .. So i need to unroot isn't? Tq bro for info ...
You can do an OTA update any time you want, you just have to have a stock version running on your phone. When you do an OTA update it checks and verifies your phone to see if everything is there that needs to be there. If you're running a non stock ROM, it'll fail. If you're running a Fruitcake, it'll fail. If you want to OTA, which...there are other ways to upgrade, but...if you WANT to OTA, flash the Froyo .sbf to get back to stock. Since you're on Froyo. Or you can flash the Gingerbread .sbf to upgrade that way, or...do it online at the website.

No guarentee you will be able to root again after each ota, its just a general RULE of all custom firmware, once you root/jailbreak/whatever your device, you no longer get updates from official sources, you get them from custom sources same as you got root. Of course you CAN do whatever you want but that doesnt mean you arent gonna f*** something up. For example: the first three updates for the Atrix you would have been f***ed accepting the ota beofre running "retain root" software. Just fyi, you may have only lost root accepting the ota (this time), but you still did it wrong. Read and learn. Follow the rule for all devices, or you WILL without a doubt eventually cause yourself more trouble than if you just did it the right way the first time! And the right way, again, is: Once you root you dont accept ota updates, you get your updates here at XDA.
