What are some great kernals??? - Droid X General

I have the latest blur update os.... its rooted with Z4root.... when I use setcpu to overclock it was maxed out to 1.0 ghz.. what are some great kernals so I can overclock to 1.2 which I hear makes a world of a difference on the droid x
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App

dont think DX has any kernels as of yet because of the locked bootloader.
i think there is an app you can buy on the market though that will overclock the dx
believe they modify the kernel after startup, not really sure cause i dont use it
1ghz is fine for me..
thikn its made by jrummy, try typing it in on the market see if it comes up

Also all chips are not created equal. They maybe in spec's but not all can achieve higher OC. I'm can't go over 1150 GHZ while some can go way higher. Speed does come with a price mileage may vary.
As suggested the JRummy app works great for me plain & simple.
check out some deblured Rom's if you want speed also there are some blended Blur Rom's coming soon to a phone near you.

Check JRummy out... Great program

OverClocking Aria

Would love to see some ROM's with SetCPU or Overclocking options. I heard the Droid could be overclocked. Wonder if Aria has a "Stable happy medium" that is around 800-1000mhz?
I don't think that It could be clocked at 1Ghz, more like 700Mhz. That just seems more likely.

I would definitely enjoy 1Ghz on my little buddy. Sort of a mini Nexus
Has anyone even tried to overclock?

Never saw a stock kernel you could overclock. You could download setcpu and play with it. Maybe once we get some custom kernels it will work.
Not sure where the problem is with speed though - this thing is pretty zippy as it is.
Yea, it's pretty fast to me. I think the 600Mhz processor must be a different design than the old 528Mhz processor, because it seems to be much faster. I'm pretty satisfied as it is. Is there a certain app that is running too slow on your phone?
Yeah I agree that the processor Is great as is. I havent noticed any lag at all. even 3d games are running without lag for the most part. If it were overclocked the only difference I think that could be needed is performance with the gpu. Set cpu cant overclock the stock kernel but if we do get a custom kernel im sure we'd be able to overclock it.

You can never have too much performance. I would love to be able to overclock.
Gpu wise we're fine as we have the same one as the Incredible and Evo, but our cpu is a bit weak. The Incredible and Evo, while they may not be any faster through the menus, are able to do things like loading web pages faster than us because of their faster cpu.

What makes you say the CPU is weak? I'm don't buy for a second that the CPU is a gating web page refresh speeds.
The CPU is not the same architecture as the old 528 mhz HTCs. The Aria does not need a 1 ghz Snapdragon to perform very well given the graphics requirement of the screen which has far less resolution to manage and requires far less from the both CPU and GPU, and given that this is a small smartphone, and not a game deck. You can't underestimate the difference in power required to drive a 480x800 compared to a 320x480 display. It's enormous for devices like these.
I am sure in time this device will be overclocked by some just because it can be, but the vast majority of us aren't worried about playing Warcraft on the Aria. People who want to do that aren't looking at the Aria is the first place, with it's 3.2" screen, which fits nicely wherever a portable phone might, but isn't going to make anyone go "oh wow, is that a flatscreen tv in your pocket or are you happy to see me?"
If you want to overclock yours, you are perfectly free to do so - once we get another kernel choice that supports it.
I think when you consider running Flash on your phone, there is NO such thing as too much performance.
When you consider full screen flash at 320x480 vs 480x800, the Aria can hold it's own against the larger Snapdragons. If the Aria has trouble with full screen flash, it's not because of the Aria, and it's not because the processor is weak.

I concede that you have a point.
we might need a kernal that support over 600mhz .
How did they overclock the driod? Is that kernel or setcpu?

Using the kernel eljefe27 links and overclockwidget I was able to overclock to 806mhz and get a higher quadrant score. I'm running ATTN1's fr006 rom(froyo+sense.) All apps stable as far as I can tell and network functional. Under advanced settings the app can define its own possible overclock values for the CPU. I'm wondering if its missing higher clocks, as there is the option to set them manually. Im just scared to, lol.
Because I can't post outside links, the kernel can be found hya:

Untrue. It may be unstable for you but not everyone. I'm currently running at 825mhz, was running at 844mhz.
Your mileage may vary.
I heard overclocking 33% over stock is a good benchmark for performance.

Roms already ocd?

When a rom says its oc...does that mean it already IS oc'd or that it CAN be oc'd? Take for instance eris lightningbolt rom. It says OC but I'm not sure if that means it already is or that it can be? Trying to figure out if the speed increase of my eris is simply due to the new rom or due to a possible oc? I have NOT installed setcpu yet.
It means it's capable... you need setCPU or Overclock Widget to increase the speed.
Could be over clocked already, but it definitely means that it can be over clocked. Ask the ROM dev in that particular thread to find out. Also, please refrain from posting general questions in the development forum in the future. Can a mod please move this thread?

it means it has a kernel capable of being overclocked as of lately no rom is allowd to be bundled with SetCPU so you won't be able to flash and Oclock it right away you must buy/download from xda the setcpu.apk but most OC'd roms come set to about 710 mhz for stability
Some kernels come custom clocked higher.
Here is the link to setcpu

CELB or Eris lightning bolt which ever you prefer to call it is overclocked to 710 by default and then can be adjusted up or down with setcpu or overclock widget.

[OC] Tegrak Overclock v0.2.0.1

Hi Captivators!
Let me introduce a tool that helps to improve performance of your phone!
NEED ROOT!
Overclock can be harm to your hardware.
Use at your own risk.
I made a overclocking application for Samsung GalaxyS family.
It's designed to make overclock very easy on stock kernel and custom kernels (almost, not CM7, it has its own way)
Only needs to click 3 times to do it.
I know here is not app category, but based on kernel module.
so I chose "Development" category.
If I'm wrong, please move my thread to correct position.
Working perfectly on GalaxyS Froyo. already proved by many people.
I'm waiting Gingerbread for my phone (SHW-M110S).
App will support Gingerbread after I got it. Hey Samsung, give it to me!!!!
My wish is that all of GalaxyS users install this application on their phone... over 10 million..
But I know. It's just a dream.

Hey, who don't want to make phone faster?
You can find a free version app in Android Market.
If you like it you can also buy ultimate version to help me (think as a donation ver)
UV(under voltage) and OV(over voltage) controls are only available at Ultimate version.
Sorry for that but I believe Free version is quite enough for most of you!
@1.43 Ghz, 1.375V + ext4 = quadrant score 2250, and fried my hands
Enjoy your enhanced phone with my application!

I have just read all threads that you told me. Yeah you are right at last comment. My app does not need custom kernel. In addition
no reboot, can change at runtime.
This is a big differrence from another apps.

yes this app loads a kernel module much like voodoo control plus does. it adds overclock to any kernel instantly. unfortunately for the developer most of us have a favorite overclock kernel. but this will work for adding overclock to kb1 non overclock kernels that some members prefer to use for call quality reasons, and for people that love the stability of speedmod but want to experiment with faster clock speeds

onix is speedmod with OC/UV
EDIT: im just curious, ive traditionally undervolted my phone to increase battery life, what would be the purpose of increasing the voltage, seems as though it would be counter productive?
Well this is interesting. A good app for anyone who remains on stock and dosent want to load a custom rom but would like a little extra horsepower. The small percentage that people here make up may or may not use it, but to the rest of the world that is on stock, this could be really nice for them.

that is a gross over simplification. i believe onix has a lower kernel hz for battery life and additional patches though i never cared to keep track of specifically what features each kernel has.
also the ulk menu on speedmod actually works on all the options including jfs unlike onix
maybe you will have better luck in the epic and fascinate sections where there is no froyo source code so they have to choose between 2.1 overclocked and 2.2
Any chance to get this on 2.3.3?

Decreasing voltage increases battery life (obviously less juice = lasts longer) but also makes your phone less stable. The inverse holds true to a point. For every phone at every cpu speed, there is a range of voltages where your processor doesn't lock up and die instantaneously. Too much voltage makes it die, too little makes it shut off.
In the range where it works, however, the lower end is better for battery life, but if it's doing something towards the upper end of the freq range, it might still die, but the upper end of the voltage spectrum is pretty much good to go.
cant overclock my cappy at all raise it to 1.2ghz without any voltage change and
it says i need the full version...
whats the point in OC app that you cant use it?

[Q] Overclock/Undervolt Procedure

I've been trying to find the best procedure to oc/uv my Droid X running rooted stock GB. Currently I'm using Milestone Overclock to adjust the max frequency and set vsel, as well as SetCpu for custom profiles. Milestone Overclock appears to only allow modifying vsel for the max frequency (rather than a distinct vsel for each frequency).
Is it sufficient to use Milestone's single vsel modification? Or should I be using another OC app like QuickClock for the best uv results?
Thanks for any help
I only use Milestone. Works for me. Battery life is fine.
I'm running at 1300MHz and vsel of 69.
Phone is stable and does not reboot itself.
I've used Droid Overclock an it has worked excellent.

I also recommend Droid Overclock. Very easy to use and the product is great!
I have been using JRUMMYS droid o/c and it worked well on froyo, it still works on GB but doesn't seem to have the same effect as it use to. I still like it for all the other features though. I have tried and tried to use milestone o/c and no matter what the settings it locks up my phone. Not sure why, I guess I am one of the lucky ones that can't o/c my cpu very much.
Thanks for the great responses. I've been experimenting the last few days with Milestone OC and the phone is regularly freezing up, and requires a re-boot. I expected this to go away as I lowered the cpu frequency or raised the voltage, but nothing has worked very well.
I am beginning to suspect launcher pro may be the cause. So I've gone back to the stock launcher and will see if the rebooting problems persist when overclocking.

Why cant i overclock my X anymore?

i thought we could overclock the X to 1.4? i use jrummys took and it always reverts back to 1ghx after a few min..and setcpu will ONLY show 1ghx.. i use to always run mine at 1.4
i am on the latest MIUI rom...
thx
Your battery plays a big role
I have two extended batteries
Same model BH6X
And one I get overclocked to 1.1 ghz and the other, 1.3ghz
I'm using quickclock advanced paid one has full features than leaked one.

go to android overclook>settings and scroll to the bottom. there you will see [Scaling Frequency Presets] check that box and you will get 1.4 and 1.45 back. I am sure he removed it because to many people were frying their phones overclocking it too high.
