Try to get an XP computer. Also, if your battery is draining, you may need to change it. Vogue's battery life is usually not bad.

you can't use activesync for vista they say
The windows mobile device center works well with Vista, you can transfer music much faster with the memory card reader.

never connects and sometimes it says error on the windows mobile device center
reinstall mobile device center.

hello there
ok...lets start with the battery...
yes i had same problem with all wm6.1 roms battery dies quickly and to tell the truth i think i need a new battery now coz the phone goes off before it reaches 70%
so...
what i did is i tested the battery issue by reversing back to official wm5 rom...then things went out smoothly but i think the excessive recharge did ruin the battery...
now for you active sync issue...
computer hardware is not an issue...as i recall all you need is win xp sp2 and the latest active sync...but hey...here's a surprise...I HAD SOME PROBLEMS WITH ACTIVE SYNC AND WM6...!!!! dunno why....!!!
yeah, I tried different computer with different windows but no luck
now I can't upgrade to any other version
even i tried with older active sync like 4.1, that din't work
It shows unknown device found
but I got no driver CD or something else
can any one send me some driver?????
I just upgraded my desktop software to Windows 7 from XP but now I can't sync with my HD2. I'm using 32 bit Win7 and Outlook 2007 and when I plug in the USB cable from my HD2 I get the error message, "Driver not found". Anyone else have this problem?

I'm using Vista and had a similar problem. Solved by installing Windows Mobile Device Centre. This is needed instead of activesync.
Yes - there have been tonnes of issues with Win 7. See for example this thread
I tried every possible solution. In the end, I had to re-install windows 7. That fixed it up right away.
A few of the possible solutions are USB related so do a search on how to uninstall and re-install USB drivers in Device Manager.
A pos solution.
In your control panel click on your device manager icon , scroll down to portable devices and uninstall all of the devices found within this cat.
Reboot your computer, i then have to re pair the phone to the computer. This works for me in Vista , ive found that if i use different usb slots to sync my phone things just seem to get messed up. I think this may work as well in W7, i use W7 sometimes and things seem to be simular.
Hope this helps
Regards
I am currently running windows 7 ultimate 64 bit. Whenever I try to mount the phone via SD on my PC, either 1 of 3 things happens: It detects the SD temporarily, then says the entire card has 0 bytes available, and 0 b total. 2. It recognizes the device normally, 14.7 gb available or whatnot, but whenever I try to drop an item on the SD, it stays in the "discovering...moving..." state permanently. 3. It doesn't detect the SD card at all.
I know I'm not the only one with this issue seeing as how I called sprint and they said it's going rampant with calls about the same issue. I've also seen it on other boards such as:
http://forum.androidcentral.com/sprint-epic-4g/31918-not-recognizing-epic-4g-usb-drive.html
Has anyone here had these issues and been able to fix it?If so..howso? I'm at wits end and about to downgrade back to Windows Vista..::Shudder::
Sounds similar to the issues that were happening with the captivate. Unless there are some 64 bit drivers you may be out of luck for now. I would try installing kies as that's what worked for me. Aldo just make sure you have the correct settings for USB and the SD.card.

I'm running Win 7 64-bit (Ultimaite on one, Premium on another) and have had no issues at all with mounting the Epic in USB mode.
You did format the microSD in the Epic, right?
A friend of mind formatted the card in his PC and had trouble with the Epic reocgnizing it properly. He then reformatted it in the Epic and has had zero issues since.
The only device I've had where the miniSD card doesn't show up when the phone is in USB mode is the Xbox 360 (which was disappointing).
Any link to kies by chance? ;/ I'll try that..will also try disabling driver signatures when I get home.
Same here. I have pluged in to 7 64bit Ult. 7 32bit Ult. And biz. Also Vista and XP. No problems. I've pluged it in on more to because I use it today to take movies around. I seem to be The Red Box in my family. Worked nice. Loving it! ;-)

Windows 7 Ult 64-Bit here as well. I can occasionally get it mounted and transfer files, but half way through the transfer it just craps out on me and usually kills explorer.exe.
Messed with drivers and still nothing. Everything is set up right.
I think the problem is the phone doesn't like some USB ports. It's fine on my laptop, but on my desktop PC, the front USB ports give me glitchy behavior (including 'driver problems') when doing mass storage. Plugged into the back and it was fine. Running 7 64-bit here too.
It's been rock solid since I did that.
For some reason I couldn't mount my phone as a drive until I turned off USB debugging. Settings -> applications -> development (i believe)
I have windows 7 64bit and it works every single time now. I've transferred tons of stuff. I never even formatted my card.
Works fine for me! windows 7 64 bit, i did have to unplug and plug in to another usb to get it working.

Same for me...its like a musical chairs thing..
Mine has worked fine on Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit without any problems at all. No switching ports out or anything of that nature. Maybe I'm just one of the lucky ones?

it wouldn't work on my macbook pro or my win7 64 bit (professional) desktop's front USB ports. However when i tried the back ports it worked fine. Go figure.
New Windows drivers from Samsung
I suggest that Windows 7 users install the latest driver from Samsung. There is a new version dated Sept. 1.
It has been working fine for me since day one on my laptop and home pc. Both are running Win 7 Ult x64.
I would suggest updating your Samsung USB drivers if you're having an issue though.
There is new set of USB drivers dated Sept. 1, 2010 that works fine. I just downloaded the drivers and ran the installation program before I plugged in the Epic. When the Epic was plugged in, Win 7 64-bit installed the hardware and I had full access to the SD card. In addition, the USB plug was not on the back of the PC but was on the front of the computer case using a cable to a USB motherboard header.
As usual the problem comes down to having the right driver.

Anyone know another link? My Win7 ultimate 64-bit won't connect with my phone. But my win xp works fine.
Hey guys, not sure if there are many people here but I'm looking for some help. I recently bought a shift off ebay because I like the cool sliding form-factor and collecting old palm tops in general. When I got it it had vista on it. It also had a lot of garbage and porn on it from the previous seller who claimed it was mint... that's another story. I ran into some problems with it and tried to reinstall vista. Then I decided to throw windows 10 on it instead thinking it would make it run better.
Unfortunately windows 10 has slowed it down to a crawl. I can't get anything done on it. It's using up a lot of processing power to the point that the device gets hot and abruptly shuts down. I don't know what I was expecting really, it only has an 800mhz proc. Have any of you guys gotten 10 to run smoothly? I'd appreciate any advice. Thanks.
Hi,
There are a number of Windows 10 performance tips in the thread titled "[GUIDE] Installing Windows 10 Technical Preview on the HTC Shift, especially in the final couple of pages.
I'm running Windows 10 on my Shift, and despite my best efforts, it still runs very slow, but good enough for running efficient applications such as Evernote, OneDrive and Word.
My Shift gets hot but it has never suffered from overheating. Perhaps your fan is faulty. Can you hear the fan running?
Hi guys, i was always fanatic for ultra mobile pc´s, i had some vaio P, and now i bought a HTC shift, just spent 50 euros in it, so it is a bargain
I have some questions here:
1- guy who sold me told me that wifi don´t work in windows 8 ( os installed), it needs some driver to work in windows 8/10? or it´s not possible to enable wifi?
2- when i receive the shift should i format all partions and make a new install of win 10? the owner told me that hd is 60gb and have 2 partitions
3- so for what i understand, there is the windows mode and then the windows mobile mode? they are installed in diferent partitions? how does this work?
thank you
i made a clean install of win 10, win 10 is very slow for shift.... all was working less wifi, it wasn´t detecting my home network
made a clean install of win 7 home premium, all smooth and quick, fast boot time, all things are working including touchscreen and wifi
in windows 7 i cant acess 3g dont know why
another problem is that when i press windows mobile key, i only get a black screen, what is the problem?
thank you
ps. for browsing i recimend slim jet browser, really fast and smoother, and very good to use with finger
I take it by now that you have learned that only the windows side uses the HDD (and bluetooth and the SD card). The Windows Mobile side is not connected to any of these (although it is connect to Windows and so can potentially access them if Windows is running).
If 3G is not working in Windows 7, have you run the "Shift Control Centre" to ensure that "Modem" is ON?
When I installed Windows 10 on my HTC Shift from a bootable USB drive created with the "Windows Media Creator" application, I performed a new installation after first deleting all of the partitions on the hard drive. This included the factory default Vista recovery partition, which I will never need, and I'd rather have the extra Gbs of storage.
There was a 2GB RAM module you could buy for it. Also, could you put an SSD inside it to speed it up?

You can buy a 2gb module in eBay but they are very expensive
About SSD you can use it, dont know wich modelo, but its possible, but this laptop have slow processor and bad graphic, so, i dont recomend this investment at all
I've got two Shifts. One with liberated Snapvue, 2GB Ram and 128GB SSD.
Had Windows7 installed, but then tried Win10. The first Beta versions made shift run like a charm, but with each update it became slower. I then returned to Vista with AeroDesign and 3d gimmicks disabled. Now runs pretty good, fast enough and stable.
The second Shift also runs Vista. Unfortunately i'm not able to liberate its Mobile side, as it refuses to receive emails although 3G is working fine. Strange thing: though not liberated, Vista is able to use the 3G modem.
windows 7 runs ok in shift, for me it´s the best os
Running Windows 10 on my Shift. I disabled certain things such as background apps, superfetch, and Windows search.
I wonder how much impact the future Meltdown and Spectre mitigation updates will have on my poor stock HTC Shift...
Wow! Started reading this thread and I cant believe I fired up my Shift. Running Windows 8 on it. It took 30 minutes for Windows defender to update . Updating Windows now. ANyone know where I can find an inexpensive battery?
Thanks
try ebay
search for htc x9500 or htc shift
btw
win 7 is the best os for this machine
Battery
Search htc shift in ebay and some will appear. Not cheap cicra £20-30 but probably not a deal breaker either.
I have used kingspec 1.8 inch 128 gb ssd's in other devices and they work well. Their speed depends upon the interface required, if ide then this will be the bottleneck. As for the original hdd they are one of the slowest ever made and were redesigned for media player usage!
Slow down windows 10 on a 1 CPU 800mHz 1gb or 2gb?
Answer this question first!!!
