When viewing details of a contact, when i tap on the address details the app HTC Locations is opened. Is there a possibility to change this behavior and open the address with Google Maps instead? I am using MDJ Froyo HD 4.6 with kernel MDJ S8.0.
I hope someone will be able to help me. Thank you a lot in advance!
I too have the same request...
+1
self answer:
delete the "htc locations" app (and stuff) with "ES File Explorer".
then when you click on the contact address will launch google maps
sorry for noobish question, but where exactly this app is in the filesystem?
-------
ok, nevermind.
but why they called it "laputa"?

You need to be rooted first. Then use Titanium Backup (or similar utility) to freeze or uninstall the "Location" and "Location Launcher" apps. Now tapping an address in either the Sense calendar or contacts apps will bring up Google Maps instead. This worked for me on my Desire Z running the Virtuous Unity ROM (based on Sense 3.0). Thanks to guiness.s for the solution: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14530095&postcount=24
Use this app:
https://market.android.com/details?id=tw.kenshinn.htccalendarfilter
This is a solution for HTC.
+1 this app! No root, just a popup to set a new default, which of course is not 'Locations'.
App name: Select Other Map for HTC
Thank You so much
+1 for this app on HTC Sensation.
Thanks very much

hi guys i have fw 026 . arent we suppose to have the mic thing next to google search? i dont have it .can some1 tell me how to get it? and what it does?
You want something and you don't even know what it does? Android fanboys never cease to amaze me.
The microphone enables Voice input. To get it, you have to download the Voice Support files from the Market.
What is it called?

It's not in the market because Google Voice took its place, but if you don't live in the US, you can't use Google Voice.
Here's a link to download the app:

This might be a stupid question, but how do you install the apk? Windows thinks it is a folder rather than an app. Same thing when I copy it over to my x10 and use a file explorer

You don't have any idea what you're talking about at all, do ya?
In the market, look for Text-to-Speech Extended Libraries, Or just go to the Libraries section of the Android Market under Apps

So there is no Google Voice app right? We need to look for other apps that use this library?

I don't know much, but I'm just saying, I went through the exact same thing yesterday that the OP is going through...
Text-to-Speech Extended libraries (from what I understand) is for text-to-speech...NOT speech-to-text. To be able to click the little microphone on the HTC_IME keyboard or to have the little microphone in the Google Search Widget, you need to install the app that I posted a link to.
I might be wrong, but I'm just saying what worked for me...

Download only Voice Search.apk to your PC, then put it in some folder on your SD card...Then with any file manager, when you open that folder and click the file, it should start up the installer...
Or you could download it directly to your phone.

Which app do you use? I'm gonna assume Astro, but it should be the same with any other...When you click it, a menu should pop up that says "Browse File" and "Open App Manager". Click "Open App Manager" and it'll install it. If it doesn't show up, try long pressing on the file, and it'll give you the option to install.
chris_knows thanks for the link I downloaded the apk & installed it & the mic icon on the HTC keyboard works. I downloaded the same apk from another link previously & I could never get the mic on the keyboard to work, I could only get the mic icon on the Google search widget to work.

Voice Search is what you need. Not Google Voice. Google Voice is a voicemail system for telephone calls.

Nice, finally have Mic icon working in my htc_ime keyboard as well. This must be an older more compatible version of voice search.
Excellent!
Hello
My wife just bought at Wildfire, but she does have some small issues with it.
1) By accident she syncronized her contacts with her google account, and now she wants to remove all contacts that came from google - how does she do that ?
2) I have a game called "Unblock me" on my Desire, but when she goes to market, it's not there ?
Thanks.
there is an option wich let you select what contacts that the phonelist is going to view. You can just enable or disable if you want the google-contacts to be shown from that list.

The market shows the apps that are compatible with the device (or, if you are from a country that does not support paid apps, you will not see all the apps.)

where can i download them as i can`t find in market...
Try using browser android market and install from there. Maybe it works.

Not sure about that, the gapps that I flashed contained a file called "com.google.android.maps.jar" to be put in the system/framework folder, and a file called "com.google.android.maps.xml" was put in the "\system\etc\permissions" folder.
So doesn't this point out that gapps at least does something with google maps?

EDIT
just found this (source):
You are probably wondering at this stage, what is this Google Apps thing, and what does it affect? It includes applications which people have come to associate with Android devices, such as the GMail application, Google Maps, Navigation, Google Talk, Car Dock, Google Account Syncing (including Picasa / Contact / Calendar sync), Google Voice, Street View, Youtube, Voice Search as well as the big kahuna, the official Android Marketplace. Pretty much all the good stuff on Android devices. You can still install and run Android without these devices and everything works fine, but it’s not quite the same if you are used to these applications. Note that recently, Google has released the Youtube and Maps apps onto the market, facilitating more direct updates to the end user. If this is an easier option for you, just grab those off the market.

Hello guys,
I got a problem to use maps with my Defy CM10. When you use any app that uses maps such as Google Maps or Foursquare, the location on the screen where it should showing the map is completely black, but all other functions are normal.
I've rebooted, deleted the cache, fix permissions, uninstalled applications, installed again, but nothing solves the problem.
Anyone have any tips or experienced this problem before?
Attached are the screenshots of Google Maps and Foursquare showing a black screen.
Thanks!

Open your App Drawer. There should be an app there called 'Hwa Settings'. When you open it it'll show you a list of all your apps (downloaded and system) with a checkbox next to their names. If you want to enable Hwa then make sure the checkbox is selected and vice-versa.
For ex., if you want to enable Hwa for Hangouts then open the Hwa Settings app, scroll till you find Hangouts and select the checkbox (it's selected by default for all apps)

Can some kind person solve my riddle??
I was using Flipboard and was going to "share" an article via text message. I clicked on Textra (as this was my messaging app) and sent the link. However, I no longer use Textra (but haven't uninstalled it) and would like to change the app that I use for sharing a Flipboard link.
Anyone have any idea how to change or remove an app used for sharing? I've tried "Better Open With" in the app store but that doesn't work. Seems like this is native to Marshmallow or Samsung. I've done some searching and it seems like you used to be able to "clear" shared apps in the App Manager prior to this release.
Thanks for any help.
