hi guys i have fw 026 . arent we suppose to have the mic thing next to google search? i dont have it .can some1 tell me how to get it? and what it does?
You want something and you don't even know what it does? Android fanboys never cease to amaze me.
The microphone enables Voice input. To get it, you have to download the Voice Support files from the Market.
What is it called?

It's not in the market because Google Voice took its place, but if you don't live in the US, you can't use Google Voice.
Here's a link to download the app:

This might be a stupid question, but how do you install the apk? Windows thinks it is a folder rather than an app. Same thing when I copy it over to my x10 and use a file explorer

You don't have any idea what you're talking about at all, do ya?
In the market, look for Text-to-Speech Extended Libraries, Or just go to the Libraries section of the Android Market under Apps

I don't know much, but I'm just saying, I went through the exact same thing yesterday that the OP is going through...
Text-to-Speech Extended libraries (from what I understand) is for text-to-speech...NOT speech-to-text. To be able to click the little microphone on the HTC_IME keyboard or to have the little microphone in the Google Search Widget, you need to install the app that I posted a link to.
I might be wrong, but I'm just saying what worked for me...

Download only Voice Search.apk to your PC, then put it in some folder on your SD card...Then with any file manager, when you open that folder and click the file, it should start up the installer...
Or you could download it directly to your phone.

Which app do you use? I'm gonna assume Astro, but it should be the same with any other...When you click it, a menu should pop up that says "Browse File" and "Open App Manager". Click "Open App Manager" and it'll install it. If it doesn't show up, try long pressing on the file, and it'll give you the option to install.

Voice Search is what you need. Not Google Voice. Google Voice is a voicemail system for telephone calls.

Nice, finally have Mic icon working in my htc_ime keyboard as well. This must be an older more compatible version of voice search.
Excellent!

Download the "google search by voice app" in the market, then watch the video link in my first post to activate
The new update doesn't have Street View. Are they discontinuing the project?
it has streetview im using it now!!
You are right, but it is not an option in the map modes like it was before. You have to long press the map on the location, then a window pops up and there you select street view. Don't really care about that since I am in Canada and there are no street views here yet, at least that is what I think. As for the voice recognition/search function, I do not have that option in the search function. Looked all over the place for it but still can't find it. There is suppose to be a mic beside the google search bar in the Search option. Not there on Rogers Canada network. Hopefully they will fix that soon.

strange.
The Roger HTC Magic (I have one) doesn't appear to have libspeech.so installed - I think that is the missing piece. I am not sure why we don't see the google search by voice app that the others are speaking about.
I'm confused why the voice dialer works - I guess that doesn't use libspeech.so?

When you are in Google Maps, do Menu > Search then select the microphone, which will let you do voice search.

It's close to the same hardware - different frequencies or something for the different carriers. The other difference is each carrier can customize the Android OS they release. Rogers in Canada, for example, released their Android phones with MS Exchange support. But they obviously left some other things out. That's why I want to root my phone so I can put whatever software I want on there.

That's the issue - there's no such button. Missing libspeech.so is the culprit here I believe. And while I have the file from other sources, I don't have root access to the phone, so I can't install it to the lib folder to make it work.
What a pain.. when I try to update mine, I get the message:
"Installation Error: Package file was not signed correctly."
Any suggestions?
I installed the new version of maps but I can't find the voice search option, it's just not there (same as previously reported) i'm on vodafone australia.
Any idea how we can get the voice working?
Well I upgraded the Maps app and have the voice search. It's rubbish! I've tried speeking as clearly as possible but it's all over the place. Searching Edinburgh comes back as Dayton, Ohio, USA everytime Typing is much quicker anyway.
New update of Google Map has been released, v3.1.1
I've updated and retried, it's still rubbish.
Ya not sure what v3.1.1 fixes, there is still no voice search here in Canada yet.

Not sure about that, the gapps that I flashed contained a file called "com.google.android.maps.jar" to be put in the system/framework folder, and a file called "com.google.android.maps.xml" was put in the "\system\etc\permissions" folder.
So doesn't this point out that gapps at least does something with google maps?

EDIT
just found this (source):
You are probably wondering at this stage, what is this Google Apps thing, and what does it affect? It includes applications which people have come to associate with Android devices, such as the GMail application, Google Maps, Navigation, Google Talk, Car Dock, Google Account Syncing (including Picasa / Contact / Calendar sync), Google Voice, Street View, Youtube, Voice Search as well as the big kahuna, the official Android Marketplace. Pretty much all the good stuff on Android devices. You can still install and run Android without these devices and everything works fine, but it’s not quite the same if you are used to these applications. Note that recently, Google has released the Youtube and Maps apps onto the market, facilitating more direct updates to the end user. If this is an easier option for you, just grab those off the market.

On my Nook Color, Google Maps was able to approximate a location from Wifi.
On the Kindle Fire, Google Maps gives some (empty) error message when I click on the "my location" button and nothing shows for my location.
Is there any way to fix that?
You need location servicices on the KF for that to work.
There is GPS Tether which is not quite the same thing but the person who first posted it, appeared to have another method to get the location info, and I suspect he figured out how to get location services (WiFi) to work. I don't think he has ever posted it though.
Not all WiFi routers or hotspots provide GPS location info though. My 4G Hotspot doesn't for example.
Not sure I follow: the nook color also has no gps but it always got art least an approximate location from wifi
The KF does not have location services installed. Without that, there is NO interface to get the data from.
I've never seen a Nook Color so i don't know what it can/can't do how it is modified etc...
The KF didn't include GPS or location services as it was designed. if someone gets it working (GPS tether does work), then it is an added bonus. otherwise you got what you paid for.
Any chance grabbing the network location files from another gingerbread Rom would do the trick?
Edit: Well it actually worked, didn’t think so at first but its working. I used Root explorer to grab the networklocation.apk from the CM7 Rom on my phone. Uploaded that the Google Search Bar and the Maps apk's to Dropbox. I put the network and Google search Bar in the Kindle systems app folder, changed the permissions to match the rest and rebooted. Got a weird popup why booting asking me to sign into my Google Account witch I have never seen but did and everything booted up normally. I then installed the Maps apk and when it loaded I skipped the turn on GPS settings popup and to my dismay the app had no idea where we were. I then opened the Google Search Widget I also grabbed hoping that applying a Go Launcher ICS theme would give me the cool clear ICS look but when I opened the app and skipped the import Gmail search history popup another popup popped up asking if I would like to turn on Google Location for better results or something like that so I chose accept and opened my Maps App to find my Google profile picture overtop of Philadelphia PA. I live in Philadelphia PA so this is a good thing. Went back to the Google Search App to be sure and Goggled Pizza and sure enough the recommended shops were local so I’m fairly certain it’s working.
Side note,
At the same time I did the above I tested a little Keyboard shortcut. Installed a few keyboard APK’s I also grabbed from my phones app folder and uploaded to Dropbox. After installing I copied and pasted the APK’s from the data/app folder, and pasted the APK’s in the system app folder and rebooted my Kindle. Once booted back up I used Root Explorer and reinstalled the keyboards from the APK’s copied to the system/app folder , selected done after each install and then opened up each keyboard for the first time by long pressing a text field and selected each keyboard. After I opened the keyboards in this way and set each ones settings to my preference I backed them up with Titanium using a label I named keyboards. So anyway the actual shortcut is that going forward after booting my Kindle I just run a restore using the label with Titanium and all the keyboards are working again until the next reboot in which another quick batch restore will need to be done, much easier then reinstalling individually after each boot. Works on Thumb, Swift, Smart and Go. Sorry didn’t think I had gone on this long about it.

What I do remember and see is my KF - is rooted w/ the update-cm-7.2.0-RC0-blaze-KANG-signed rom, Also I have installed the build.prop by enkode in the "Kindle Fire Market MAWR OPEN!!!" thread to appear like a GT-P1000 to Android.Market for Fuller access. NetworkLocation.apk , From gapps-gb-20110828-signed . 2. framework-res.apk, a modded one from another post about wifi location. 3. Google_Maps_6.1.1.apk. I set all the permissions on the 3 files to 755 . But I only installed the ONE "GoogMaps6.1.1", I did not install the other 2 .apk at all. Rebooted and saw Latitude, Gmaps, etc. Folders. Went to search stuff with GMaps, and all worked Did steps to reboot and skip geolocation etc like "chairshot215" OP wrote 1 page back. I take no respons. If undertaken. either. lol. Also undertaken by me ( b4 all this) is I installed Gr4-update-modacocustomrom and afterwards the Gr5 ver.one, so I may be on 6.2.2 beneath it all. Maybe this helped /not . But it works! Luv the street view app and using mic and saying Chicago, Illinois- directly map goes. Even works on ics .Hope it clears it up. somewhat.

All-in-one Patch for Missing Sense Apps, Widgets, and Plugins
Hello everyone
The new HTC 10 is marvelous, and Sense 8 is really good and smooth.
As you all should know, Sense 8 is much cleaner and more close to stock Android, HTC removed tons of goodies from the old Sense.
Some of them are available on the Play Store, so it should be no problems..... but.....
How about those which cannot be downloaded
To be honest, I miss them a lot, and I believe many of you do to.
There are installable apks available, but most of them are outdated/modified, also downloading them one-by-one is a pain.
I collected all old Sense parts from our Sense 8 M8 port and packed all of them into an Aroma Installer flashable zip.
Here are the list of apps included in the package, all of them are selectable within the Aroma menu:
Code:
--Apps--
HMS_Gallery_GP2
HMS_Music_GP
HTC_IME
*IMEHWRPenPower
*IMEMurasuIndic
*IMEMurasuViet
*IME_TP_Basic
*IME_TP_ValueAdd
HTC Car
*HtcCarGps
*Automotive_Home
*Automotive_Traffic
--Widgets--
CalculatorWidget
HtcAutoRotateWidget
HtcBackgroundDataWidget
HtcProfilesWidget
HtcRingtoneWidget
HtcScreenBrightnessWidget
HtcScreenTimeoutWidget
HtcSyncWidget
HtcBtWidget
HtcCalendarWidgets
HtcContactWidgets
HtcDataRoamingWidget
HtcDataStripWidget
HtcHotspotWidget
HtcMobileNetworkWidget
HtcMusicWidget
HtcWiFiWidget
--Plugins--
Facebook_Plugin
Instagram_SN_Plugin
Tencent_Wechat_FSPlugin
And the following is the list that is downloadable from Play Store and not pre-loaded:
Code:
HTC Internet (Browser)
HTC Calendar
HTC File Manager
HTC Tasks
HTC Scribble
HTC Power to Give
HTC Backup (Discontinued in Marshmallow)
Changelog
v1.1:
Add HTC Car
Update HTC Gallery
Add a note for Calendar Widgetv1.0:

It's unclear yet.
SD820 has the capability in the SoC but the 10 firmware and kernel may not support FM radio as well as the appropriate missing libs for it to function.
Once there are more devices in hands there will be more information.

Yes, it is not included by default. You have to manually install it.
Appreciate that nice work,
suggestion here:
if you want to put the Calendar-widget in, then you might want to grab the Calendar in.
so when ppl hit the date on the widget, that 'd just call the main Calendar app

For us to have full functionality of Blinkfeed, we have to choose between getting updates and having to flash TWRP + your mod?

Please keep in mind that it's just a zip file, you can unpack what you need by yourself.

Yes, you're right. But now the problem is Gallery App keep force closing and Music App showed "App is not installed" message.

Probably they are priv-apps and I don't know a way to install such apps without root..
Do you have the HTC 10? Can you please confirm that all HTC Calendar's widgets are getting installed from the Play Store?

This is why I packed it to install them in system. I've done no modifications to the apps, so they have to be installed into the system with proper libraries.

The HTC Calendar is available on Play Store (I listed in OP), but not the widgets. That's why I also included them in my pack.

That's sounds very odd. Usually an app installs its widgets build in. Why is it different in this case? There are no widgets with the Google play app at all?
Hi,
I've got a 6T using H2o, is there a way to have Google voice install and use with Google assistant?
The " OK Google" function doesn't work, no matter that language I set it, still showing not available, can someone please point me a right way to get it work?
Thanks!

Isn't the H2O missing the "google stuff" so I would imagine the you either have to download alot of stuff, or flash one of the open gapps....

I've already downloaded Google voice and installed, I can use the Google voice to search stuff, just can't use "OK Google " this function to get the phone respond to my voice command that's all.
