I have just upgraded via the reg patch from JPU. No issues other than the lock screen stops working after about half an hour. So when I press the button to switch the phone back on it goes bacl to the last screen with no lock screen
I have cleared cache in download mode and turned the phone on and off but again after half an hour I get the same issue the lock screen stops working
I have tried both with the normal slide and the pattern
Any ideas
Probably needs a factory reset - that sorts most errors like this kind.
I updated today via kies (reghack, XXJPU) and I don't have any problems... so maybe an application that make a problem?
The first time I flashed I changed the product code back from KOR to XEU. I think Kies caused this for some reason. Second time I flashed with odin (much more reliable!) and it's fine. However, the first time I experienced horrible battery drain. As for now, I'm keeping an eye on it.
I'm also missing the Pure Calendar Widget from the market unless it's been pulled. Tried all sorts to find that again but it's not there.
Overall, JPX is the slickest and best running firmware I've used on my SGS so far.
My only complaint is that my SGS really struggles with battery drain on XXJPX stock. JPU was very good (but was buggy).. Prefer JPX but without the battery drain.
I've cleared the battery stats etc, as well..
I had some problems with frozen accelerometer but after a Factory reset it worked again.
I flashed to JPX (from JPU) and I have this weird bug where my phone still thinks it's connected to the USB. has anybody else experienced this?
Also, my quadrant score isn't nearly as high as it used to be when I had JPU.
Sooooo, good morning....
Now I see that there is again a new firmware out... JPY... maybe they found a problem whit the battary drain....
greetings from croatia

So... Do you recommend upgrading on kies to 2.2.1

Hi Guys,
I've upgraded yesterday from XPU to XPX - all done with Odin - Kies doesn't recognize my phone despite of any recommended procedures. Stuff it don't need ballast.
I've have had some troubles with XPU: changing my country code from DV2 (Vodafone D2, Germany) to KOR - I had have to edit /efs/ndata.bin, battery drops to 98% just after removing phone from charger, instability with some apps ...
But now after some reboots without factory reset my phone and I are happy. Best firmware ever seen.
Cheers - and Seasons Greetings from merry old Germany ;-)
Chris
Yes definately although there is a new firmware out!!!

On the stock kernel?

Don't know if anyone has reported this yet. Froyo is now available to O2 UK customers with branded handsets like me. Just upgraded from JM1 via Kies after months of waiting. So far so good.
Details:
PDA: I9000ADJP5
Phone: I9000ADJP3
CSC: I9000UJP3
great. can you check if you can put UK postcodes into the contracts address, and see if the Gallery sensor drains the battery. use *#*#4636#*#* to get into battery stats
When it came out on vodofone on monday, so many people had problems with kies it was un believable. Going by the vodafone forum we're talking 10's of 000's
And why does a company the size of samsung only have one server location for the whole world??
I wish all o2 customers good luck!

I just upgraded to this and it's great. I had previously used the reg hack to upgrade to JPO and suffered lag problems and found Exchange on the default email app to be unusable.
Now, on JP5 and there are no lags and the email app is working fine. GPS lock is faster too.

I am JPO as well, might give this a whirl, i need to make sure that the speedmod kernel works with this first.
JP3 for the phone and CSC, isnt that an older Froyo release?

I did the reg hack to put JPO onto my o2 branded handset. Is it really worth putting on the offical o2 rom on, is it really that different speed wise?
can you check your sensor battery usage after opening the gallery and see if it constantly uses the sensor even after the gallery has been closed for a while.
use *#*#4636#*#*

I thought i would just put it on to try it (no data or settings were wiped), i have just rooted it and i am gonna put the speedmod kernel on shortly, then i'll test it for a few days.
Looks like the sensor is constantly being used, opened it up to check history a few times and the time has gone up every time, even with gallery closed.
After initially running better JP5 has rapidly deteriorated, with lags and force closes, including system force close, which I've never seen before. Seriously thinking of reverting to JPO
I have disabled notifications and all lags and force closes have disappeared. Sad really but it dies appear to be the most problematic aspect of Android and has always been erratic. Previously Facebook and Twiiter
Finally it's out !! yaaa
but why I can't see the information of my old FW and the new one ?
I think Samsung's servers are Choking haha
I hope I can upgrade at midnight when no one is upgrading
I upgraded yesterday via Kies. Worked fine, no problems.
I'm finding the performance is good, no lag, no hangs etc There are new icons and new options such as turning off packet data which is very handy when you are in a location that has poor 3G signal.
Overall after a day I would say there is no drama but I'll have to wait a while to see if there is any real improvements.
BTW I've got a boggo standard handset that is O2 branded.
Cheers
Just done the O2 firmware update (can't do any other firmware flash due to 3 button combo not working) and all want well........[bold]BUT[/bold] the GPS no longer works properly.
While on 2.1, it was excellent, but now it's slow at getting locks and most of the time my position is way off.
Can't be a hardware issue because it was great on 2.1.
How do we fix this (not having the 3 button combo restricts me from a lot of other options)?

Just checked mine it does not allow UK postcodes the tag is "Zip Code" and only allows Numeric values and Yes the Gallary sensory is the higest of the barrery usage under history.
Like many after installing 2.2 I had to do s factory reset. I had speed issues and my email client would stop responding and force close after update.

download GPS Status & Toolbox from the market and run it.
See if it makes a difference
Been running O2 froyo since yesterday and its good. Battery is fine. Was lagging until I removed task killer, now ok. GPS is better but still not great. Overall thumbs up.
hi guys ,i tried to search with the keyword "flicker" but there's no similar result returned, so i decided to start this thread.
I'm using I9000 Asia set, stock firmware is DXJPA. Currently on Darky Rom 9.4.
Before this i was on DXJPA + speedmod K13A, things was fine(i suppose). Right after i flash my kernal to K13C, i notice sometimes my screen flickers, i thought its just some magnetic interruption. But the longer i observe, it seems to appear once in a while.
So i thought its the kernal that causes it, i flash it back to stock kernal and did a reset, apparently the problem still around. And even now i'm on darky rom 9.4, i'm still having this issue. So guys, did any of you faced the same problem ? and any of you manage to find a solution to it?
Ya I'm having the same problem. I always thought it had something to do with automatic brightness.. Not sure though...

I have the same issue, but only on wifi - while turning it on or when the signal is weak.
It must be hardware though - my roommates SGS, bought on the same day, doesn't have this problem.
I have the same problem too.
you guys on stock or custom rom?
I'm on stock.
Come to think about it, I only had this problem when I'm browsing internet..
So it could be related to wifi as mentioned above.
Anyone have better ideas?
I'm not really concerned about it since it rarely happens, but if someone can tell us the fix... it would be awesome!
Clear your phone flash stock rom Eclair with pit 512 and repartition checked .
If that solves the problem you can upgrade to Froyo .
That way you eliminate fault from a custom rom .
jje
I'm pretty sure it's not sw related, but it's hw defect - at least in my case.
I have the problem from the start and on 5 different roms - all stock (JG1 - stock default, JP3 and JP5 - got at the Samsung service, JPO and JPY - via Kies).
Someone with the same problem went to the service with the phone, where they've replaced the screen and the problem was gone. So I can assume that the screen was faulty or some connectors or something similar.
I wasn't comfortable when I first noticed the flickering, but it's not a big problem for me now. Thankfully it's not getting worse, but if it's going to, I will certainly service the phone.
I also have this problem, mainly when browsing internet (on both stock and opera browser), but occasionally in other apps too.
I am running an older docrom with damien's ultimate kernel.
I figured it is a hardware issue, because it only started happening after my phone got dipped in sea water (lol).
lets try to gather some info among us so that we can narrow down the possibilities.
I shall start 1st. Below are my configurations
1) Always on Edge (for battery saving purpose)
2) On Darky Rom 9.4
3) Flicker mostly in browser, sometimes in other apps, and homescreen as well
I'm still sure it's a hardware problem, but still, if it's going to help anyone:
- also always on GSM mode only (have tried on 3G - no difference)
- stock JPY (the problem persists through 5 different stock ROMs)
- only get it when turning wifi on until it is connected or it keeps flickering when wifi reception is bad and it doesn't connect
- it can be best seen if I pull notification bar down and turn on wifi
Now that I think of it, i've only noticed it with wi-fi on, and it doesn't matter whether i have an app running or not. i've seen it on the home screen many times.
GB 2.3.3 xxjvk
Change your bootloader
I also had it when I was using Darky's v9.4 and v9.5.
I flashed a new bootloader and upgraded to v10 RC3 and its gone.
To solve it, you will probably have to flash 2.3.3 with new bootloaders and then back to v9.5 if you want to keep Darky's FroYo. v9.5 is stable
Oh found the thread here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1011701
Flashing bootloader is 1 thing that will likely brick your phone if accidents happen.
Kids, please do not try this at home.
is it possible to change my bootloader without flashing my rom?
Yes, but that's even riskier. If you flash an entire rom and it's going to fail, it will most likely fail during the factoryfs part as opposed to the bootloader part if flashing alone

Hi guys,
I get crashes of twlauncher when i try to navigate back to the home screen. The phone will kind of lockup for a second or two before showing the error. The home screen will then kind of lag before widgets and shortcuts load up again.
It occurs rarely, probably only getting it once or twice a day on average, but it still gets annoying, and theres no fixed way of replicating the problem.
Anybody have any idea what's going on? Forgive me for lack of info as this is actually my first android phone! My kernel version is still XWKDD (baseband XXKDH). I heard theres an update available, wondering if anyone had it fixed through updating.
looking at the problems that kdd have had id say best bet is for you to update your firmware, i had the kdd build on mine and it also had problems ( os usage ) now that i have updated its fixed, so id say just update and report back if it is doing it.
P.S update using odin not kies, kies does not recognise the update. just to save u some time
a factory reset might also help, I had similar problems with the old firmware, a factory reset somehow fixed it and never came back to me
Haven't done the firmware update (gonna do it tonight )
thanks for the input guys. will report back if it happens again.
there is still a few bugs in it. im running KE7 and if you rotate the screen in landscape mode you get a graphics glitch. maybe sorted for the next version of launcher pro
I think its a gingerbread problem with memory management as the nexus one's have been doing this since gingerbread, with all launchers. Its really annoying.
So I updated my device last week to the most up to date official firmware through Samsung Kies, which is:
PDA I9100XWLA4
Phone I9100XXKI4
CSC I9100DBTKH1
Android 2.3.6
While my device worked flawlessly before the update, it reboots now for no reason multiple times a day -> this means it loses the signal, since the pin must be reentered.
Streaming stuff to my TV through allshare does not work any longer either. (Enjoy watching video-podcasts on a big screen).
Also there is now a new icon in the status bar signalizing whether the phones speaker is turned on - its quite annoying and superfluous, the vibration icon is enough.
So guys hear my advice, avoid this buggy update.
Why don't you flash your old firmware again in Odin?
Sent from my GT-I9100T
I flash mine last week and don't have such problem, but I had a full wipe after flashing.
Sounds like you need to wipe, considering that everyone else here has been raving about how awesome XWLA4 is.
I never had problems with this firmware
Running LA4 for quite some time now (on my german S2), without wipe, still running my "ancient" since-first-day config (never wiped for my daily use config so far) and everything is running smooth.
The vibrate icon is since not sure when, some time age (unfortunately it seems to not have been a bug as they never removed it again....) but I only get a "speaker" icon in silent mode (and the vibra one depending on if it is silent+vibe or silent).
Flash it with ODIN. Runs perfect. Best firmware ever. Flashed it > 10 SGs2's, rooted or none rooted, without any problems.

I just switched on my computer and was notified that there was an update to kies which brought it to version 2.3.1.12044-18. I decided to upgrade and then connected my phone and was notified that there was a firmware upgrade.
The upgrade gave me me,
PDA JW4
Phone JW4
CSC JW5
I cannot say what the changes are, or what effect it will have on the operation of the phone as it's only been upgraded for 15 mins.
By all reports the only change (from CSC JW4 to JW5) is an upgrade of Play Books. Certainly I haven't noticed any other difference.
I updated too, wonder if it fixes the touchwiz issues since 2.3.6... hmm
I couldn't say. I've been using Go launcher since 2.3.6
I'm the same and hence why I wondered if anyone out there has noticed. Such a shame that a multi billion pound corporation can't get their own GUI working properly; it's like a bad joke.

Ok, the update prior to this one had major freezing issues on the homescreen; literally an random times you can find that the homescreen freezes as you try to swipe between pages; it can freeze after you've exited an app. The freezes can last for 10 to 20 seconds and nothing you can do short of removing the battery will elicit a response from the phone. As soon as I started using GoLauncher I've had no such problems and ergo Touchwiz must be the culprit.

I experimented these troubles but after I have done a hard reset it is now solved.
I reinstalled almost all applications I have been using previoulsy (which were kept during initial firmware update done through KIES but lost after the hard reset) and I discovered that :
APN ON/OFF was not compatible (but was present after initial fimware update)
This was a possible candidate to explain the troubles encountered.
The other candidates are the 2 applications not reinstalled :
- Beautiful Widget (From Getjar)
- Quick Settings
There is another guy who complained about JW4 and who performed a reinstallation of all his applications one by one and said that troubles started as soon as Beautiful Widget was installed.
For the moment (so for Several weeks) I have not had any freeze.
Additional Info : As I saw Cut The Rope experiments was available for Free at Getzar I reinstalled Getzar and .... First Black Screen !!!
Regards
Olivier
Hmm, I only had Beautiful widgets installed briefly and I don't have APN on/off installed. Not heard of quick settings... at any rate I never had the issues until the update so it must be touchwiz or a samsung tweak as Golauncher works perfectly.
Never had BW or APN on/off installed so they weren't the problem. I also did a hard reset and still had the same problem, which I experienced as a huge lag, not a freeze.

Exactly the same for me : I had not any trouble until I update firmware to JW4.
But since I have done the hard reset and not reinstalled Beautiful Widgets (weather wallpaper + meteo widget), JW4 is working very good, it might me a sort of memory management issue which happens only if specific confirguration.
Please not also that When I said I reinstalled all applications it was from the market, no from a backup up.
Also no root performed (as before) so I couldn't blame any kernel ...
