I have been trying to figure that out myself... Yesterday (or should i say Saturday) dk28 was speculated as an RC... Then I hear its the final version of froyo... I too am very confused.. Seems to be a lot of people with a lot of problems but who knows...
No way this is final.

I think that will come with a separate software update from the dock software.
If were on the leaked froyo right now will our phone still pick up the ota update when sprint releases the final?

Considering its on Google servers and an OTA we know its at least an RC...as for whether its a final or not depends on Sprint...
In my opinion this rom is stable enough to release...its true its not 100% perfect but sprint isn't looking for 100% perfect..it just has to be decent enough...
I'm sure most of the problems were caused by people not wiping or restoring their old data which conflicts...thats not to say that there is no bugs of course...
I heard a rumor by a credible source (unless he was just running interference) that dk28 was never going to be released and the final was going to be dl07 which is tomorrow

noobnl had posted that DL03 was supposed to be originally, but that may have changed. I also think dk28 was a slip and wasn't intended to go live even for test units.
I'm not sure but honestly froyo has given me very few problems.
The only few I've countered is with random services popping up and samsung widgets disappearing.
I've had a few checkers in the browser, but very rarely.
Overall, its dk28. It seemed ready and it is for the most part, but I had expect an update soon.

Hi all. Take a look at the following link. It will take you to the Sprint community forum where admin has said that Sprint has not released the update. I cannot post a link as I am a new member, so you will have to remove the spaces within the url:

No way is DK28 a final RC. It left my GPS in zero condition, the Gallery crashed while UL some pics to Facebook necessitating a battery removal to reboot. There were no user problems here as I flashed a tar file.
That makes me wonder if froyo had a more negative effect on rooted or pre peviously rooted users. I have never rooted and i updated from the stock. The problems I've had are very little.

How would you make a slip like that? I think it was intended for test units at the very least...
DL03 is possible I guess but DL07 sounds a little strange as its only December 6th...
Of my year and a half with android phones, this is the biggest piece of crap update I've ever seen. I didn't make it 24 hours before the lag started really making me mad. I went back to di18 then nandroid restore. I'm going to wait awhile and see what happens. Maybe.
This is not the official update
The OP is correct. In multiple posts at Sprint's own user forum yesterday, the Sprint admin clearly denied that there has been an official update.
I posted links to those Sprint statments on multiple threads here, but few seem to pay attention. The DK28 downloads we are seeing are a leak, not an official release.
Conspiracy theory time: we're all public RC testers. Sprint allowed that file to be put on Google's servers knowing that somebody here would find it, and knowing that we here will have our phones in all range of possible configurations - from stock to stock/rooted to fully customized. They may not get very scientific data from our experience but they'd get a lot of anecdotal data to add to whatever data they've collected themselves through their own testing.
If this is a RC, they may have thought all of the bugs were worked out and are now seeing some new ones that they didn't know about. We've all tried various things before to get our GPS to work and maybe something we've done is responsible for breaking it completely in DK28... and that's something they might not have known would happen.
Other than the GPS death, though, I've had no problems with DK28. After the painful process of reverting to DI18, re-updating and then restoring all my apps and settings, everything now works (except MediaHub, which is actually a blessing) and the UI is smooth and fast for me.
My gps Is working flawlessly, snag had since the moment I flashed dk28 maybe it is the rom you are using.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
I don't believe dk28 is final myself. It just doesn't perform as good as di18. The only improvement for me has been working GPS. Flash is not a big deal to me. Games like Asphalt are jittery and glitchy. The UI is a bit laggy and jittery as well. These are issues that should have been resolved even in a RC. As it stands now, if this is the final release, I'm gonna roll back to a custom 2.1 ROM and wait for an improved version of Froyo(or Gingerbread lol)
Its not the final. Wish people would stop claiming that it is and confusing new XDA members. There are too many problems with DK28 and DI18 was too stable and polished a release for samsung to truly consider this an upgrade.
I love my phone but it's frustrating seeing other galaxy devices getting updates left and right while we get left in the dark
I posted a comment on samsung forum saying that this phone is great but it's already outdated when it hit the stores and they denied my comment
Honestly I'm losing hope due to the fact my girlfriend had a Droid Incredible with 2.2 even my old G1 has 2.2 it may be to much for it to handle it but it still has 2.2
Btw. If it wasn't for you developers I would have left a long time ago Thank You Guys

It will get 2.2 eventually, but only time will tell how long. If we can get kernel source for the I500 phones, we should be able to get you a working kernel, and you may be able to use one of the Fascinate Froyo ROMs then. The biggest problem you'll have is getting the kernel until Samsung releases the OTA or source because of the different video driver used for the screen/ticker/soft keys.

I'm with you on this update lincoln3823. Very frustrating hearing other phones have froyo while a phone released in November is unable to get an update.
I love my phone but I'm going crazy with my RSS not working at all and SNS not working correctly (facebook-yes; twitter-no).
I've even reset my phone and it worked for maybe a couple of days.
Why won't they push an update to froyo??

Well it was said that samsung was charging carriers to release ota firmware updates. I don't know how much it is true but I'm starting to believe the rumors.

If that's true, that really stinks.
Sure wish I new someone who knows the answer to this question.
Heck, I might even pay for it, if the cost (ROI) was worth it. Sure would like to see flash on my phone. Besides froyo has 57% of the market vs. eclair at 31%.
That's crazy considering the Continuum came out in November.
On another note:
I haven't rooted my phone and I noticed your signature as Rooted.
Question? Is it worth rooting? I've read Pros on it but haven't seen any Cons. What's the drawback on it? Updates? Can you revert back to stock if I choose too.

Yea are no cons every since I rooted my phone. I was able to freeze all of verizon garbage freeing up memory thats usually taken by crap that I don't use eg. skype and you can root and unroot as many times as you like

So like I've been looking around at forums to root my phone but I have no idea what I'm doing. Really none. Just got my continuum in Jan. I read about OneClick and SuperOneClick (think that's right) and sometimes it works and sometime not.
Can you point me to the "Root for Dummies" section?
Also, what software do I need to backup my phone incase of trouble so I can revert back to stock?

BTW, I rooted my phone using SuperOneClick. It worked perfectly and I've verified it using Root Checker. Now my next step is I want to remove or freeze the bloatware.
I'll direct future non Subject (Are we ever going to get 2.2) related questions to appropriate Threads posting.
I really didn't have an idea about rooting either....seems like I was looking everywhere for rooting information. I tried z4 multiple times with no effect. superoneclick worked. I am running a windows 7 laptop. The phone drivers updated (downloaded from the net) when I plugged in my phone. Then I followed the video instructions on superoneclick site and everything worked fine. continuum w/ verizon. Now I just need to figure out how update to 2.2 I"m on the way!

There is no leaks available yet so the only way to get to 2.2 is to wait, or hope that Adrynalyne can get a leak.
But both imnuts and Adrynalyne are both working on custom roms so there will be some love for the continuum

It's now March 29, still no 2.2. Any info?

samsung submitted ec17 for the fascinate to verizon...and apparently that is still in testing...im just gonna assume it ll fail testing like most of their updates and never come out
the fascinate root crowd no longer really cares though as the mesmerize 2.2 officially came out w/ source....
but it seems like continuum updates follow quickly behind fascinate updates...so if hypothetically a fascinate ota occured like this week then it would probably be soon after for the i400
Ok, I was just fine tweaking 2.1 for now until something happened and we finaly got 2.2+, since Eclair isn't really that bad. Now I am starting to see 2.2+ only apps (ones that I want to try mostly) and it's starting to make me less patient. It saddens me since this phone had so much potential with the decent hardware and interesting ticker feature, but it is quickly being left in the dust as the little android that couldn't... /sadpanda
Looks like Samsung has released the Froyo source code for the Fascinate... that could be a good sign... Of course, isn't there a Fascinate on Rogers (Canada) that has had Froyo for awhile?
I know I saw it on android central and I got excited but then again we did get left behind once before

No its OTA. It goes out like all the other moto phones ota's.
the private moto forums have discussed it and it seems besides one girl having issues (unrelated to the update probably) everyone is saying it works good.

Sweet. That is excellent news.
Uh oh
Will it still upgrade to 2.2 if I have removed the AT&T branded crapware?
What application/service do I need to unblock in droidwall for it to come down?
Did you totally remove the crapware?? I used Bloat Freezer on the ATT bloatware and unfroze everything before updating. No problems.
Yes. This was before I read that you had to keep it. Removed without backup with Titanium right after I had rooted. Would a factory reset put it back? I'd like to not have to exchange the phone at a store, but not having Froyo is kind of a killer. I mean, FPSE isn't even compatible with eclair
What i'm hoping for is that motorola will put it on the update map soon so that we have a rough date. As for apps.. if anything couldn't we get the files off one of our bravos if factory reset doesn't work?

This is my first motorola android phone. How long does it typically take after they release the final build of a sw version for them to officially release to the general public? Also, has anyone who has gotten the update, uploaded it anywhere for others to download or is that even possible with this type of release? Thanks.
So, the Fascinate recently had a Gingerbread leak drop..... Since that phone is our phone's brother, do you think we will get it too...... Eventually? What do you guys have to say?
Btw: I am still on Vacation for another few days... When I get back I am going to recruit some graphic artists or whatever on xda to see if they can photoshop a quick green wave, or some other color that you guys like... Because I suck at graphic designing... It shouldn't be hard for anyone interested, because they can just use the template from the original blue wave.... Hopefully xD

i would think the continuum would follow the fascinate with gb...however given the rather poor sales of the device (by all accounts a commercial flop) verizon/samsung just might not feel like spending the r&d on it...but im hopeful for u guys they would
I find it unlikely we even get Froyo, yet alone GB. Furthermore, I find it unlikely any developer is going to work on porting GB for the Continuum with the Fascinate leak.
Verizon isn't going to pay Samsung to update this phone. With such low sales, it's more cost-efficient for Verizon to forget about us than it is to release updates. Business is business.
Obviously I could be wrong.

Pretty much this. It's not going to happen. I've given up on ever getting an update. As soon as my job picks up (FINALLY) I'm selling it and getting a charge or x2 or something.
No expert here..but willing to venture
Did the update, it worked with out a glitch.. was able to root using superoneclick from xda..worked if I did not allow it to install busybox, when I did for somereason my phone wouldnt charge? Which btw adding busybox never popped up before when using superoneclick to root other androids...so far so good.. so far the changes are minimal.....a few extra settings such as font...but nice to have all the same..oh netflix works from the link provided with the leaked instructions...could be a tad scary to flash using ogdin..but it works.
Wait you updated you fascinate with this or your continuum?
I was actually just going to ask something too. If the big problem with modding is the ticker and everything else with the fascinate is essentially the same...can't I just update with this and noir have the ticker work or will the absence of ticker support just kill the phone?
I have tried before to install fascinate odin files on our phone... Didn't work xP The graphic drivers are different, so you can't see anything xP

They aren't compatible. The drivers we have are for kernel 2.6.29, and the Froyo kernel is 2.6.32.9 (the .9 doesn't really matter to much) and Gingerbread is 2.6.35.x Somewhere betwee 6.29 and 6.32, there was a huge change to the kernel source, and I'm guessing any drivers built for the Eclair kernel we have are not going to work well on Froyo. The Fascinate Froyo source works to build a kernel, but the initramfs sucks, and it isn't something that is easy to troubleshoot really, and I don't have time right now to do so.
Thanks ImNuts, really. I have until about my birthday, July 1st, until I start reteaching myself programming and building it myself. Least I can do is try lol.

If you can get the kernel working, you should at least be able to get most of the system to Froyo, based on the Fascinate releases. The ticker would be an absolute no-go IMO, but you should be able to get the soft-key button images on there.
At this point I don't even care about the ticker. It doesn't work for 90% of what I want to use it for anyways. I would rather just have a phone capable of Froyo use haha.
