The only reason I wonder is because the charging dock still doesn't work with audio out, which was a promised feature.

I have been trying to figure that out myself... Yesterday (or should i say Saturday) dk28 was speculated as an RC... Then I hear its the final version of froyo... I too am very confused.. Seems to be a lot of people with a lot of problems but who knows...
No way this is final.

I think that will come with a separate software update from the dock software.
If were on the leaked froyo right now will our phone still pick up the ota update when sprint releases the final?

Considering its on Google servers and an OTA we know its at least an RC...as for whether its a final or not depends on Sprint...
In my opinion this rom is stable enough to release...its true its not 100% perfect but sprint isn't looking for 100% perfect..it just has to be decent enough...
I'm sure most of the problems were caused by people not wiping or restoring their old data which conflicts...thats not to say that there is no bugs of course...
I heard a rumor by a credible source (unless he was just running interference) that dk28 was never going to be released and the final was going to be dl07 which is tomorrow

noobnl had posted that DL03 was supposed to be originally, but that may have changed. I also think dk28 was a slip and wasn't intended to go live even for test units.
I'm not sure but honestly froyo has given me very few problems.
The only few I've countered is with random services popping up and samsung widgets disappearing.
I've had a few checkers in the browser, but very rarely.
Overall, its dk28. It seemed ready and it is for the most part, but I had expect an update soon.

Hi all. Take a look at the following link. It will take you to the Sprint community forum where admin has said that Sprint has not released the update. I cannot post a link as I am a new member, so you will have to remove the spaces within the url:

No way is DK28 a final RC. It left my GPS in zero condition, the Gallery crashed while UL some pics to Facebook necessitating a battery removal to reboot. There were no user problems here as I flashed a tar file.
That makes me wonder if froyo had a more negative effect on rooted or pre peviously rooted users. I have never rooted and i updated from the stock. The problems I've had are very little.

How would you make a slip like that? I think it was intended for test units at the very least...
DL03 is possible I guess but DL07 sounds a little strange as its only December 6th...
Of my year and a half with android phones, this is the biggest piece of crap update I've ever seen. I didn't make it 24 hours before the lag started really making me mad. I went back to di18 then nandroid restore. I'm going to wait awhile and see what happens. Maybe.
This is not the official update
The OP is correct. In multiple posts at Sprint's own user forum yesterday, the Sprint admin clearly denied that there has been an official update.
I posted links to those Sprint statments on multiple threads here, but few seem to pay attention. The DK28 downloads we are seeing are a leak, not an official release.
Conspiracy theory time: we're all public RC testers. Sprint allowed that file to be put on Google's servers knowing that somebody here would find it, and knowing that we here will have our phones in all range of possible configurations - from stock to stock/rooted to fully customized. They may not get very scientific data from our experience but they'd get a lot of anecdotal data to add to whatever data they've collected themselves through their own testing.
If this is a RC, they may have thought all of the bugs were worked out and are now seeing some new ones that they didn't know about. We've all tried various things before to get our GPS to work and maybe something we've done is responsible for breaking it completely in DK28... and that's something they might not have known would happen.
Other than the GPS death, though, I've had no problems with DK28. After the painful process of reverting to DI18, re-updating and then restoring all my apps and settings, everything now works (except MediaHub, which is actually a blessing) and the UI is smooth and fast for me.
My gps Is working flawlessly, snag had since the moment I flashed dk28 maybe it is the rom you are using.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
I don't believe dk28 is final myself. It just doesn't perform as good as di18. The only improvement for me has been working GPS. Flash is not a big deal to me. Games like Asphalt are jittery and glitchy. The UI is a bit laggy and jittery as well. These are issues that should have been resolved even in a RC. As it stands now, if this is the final release, I'm gonna roll back to a custom 2.1 ROM and wait for an improved version of Froyo(or Gingerbread lol)
Its not the final. Wish people would stop claiming that it is and confusing new XDA members. There are too many problems with DK28 and DI18 was too stable and polished a release for samsung to truly consider this an upgrade.

Im so sick of DK28 and all of its issues. I just went back to DI18 Epic Experience. So much more smoother. No lag. No cant hear when calling glitch. No gallery problems. No force closes. No random reboots. NOTHING!! Just a nice smooth phone that I can use and that is reliable!!!!!! Im done with the whole leaked version thing. I wont flash my phone again until the official froyo comes out for the Epic. Good night DK28!!
I did. Well I was an idiot and bricked my phone and was lucky enough to get it replaced without the $100 deposit (thank you Dustin). I planned on rooting and flashing asap until I literally was about to connect the usb cable into my pc. For now I am staying stock. I may Z4 it to get rid of some stock apps but I am taking a break from the ROM/Modem flashing and theming stuff. My new Epic is running WAY better now then my old one was on DK28. I mainly wanted flash 10 but once I got it I never used it. I thought it would be great for watching HULU in between class or when I take the bus to work but my battery life was only 4hrs and I never could fix it no matter what recommendation I tried. Now my battery lasts all day again. We will see what I do in another week or 2 though lol.

From what I've experienced, there really aren't any issues with DK28 that aren't already in 18. Every Rom I've tried recently (Quantum, Bonsai, Midnight) has been silky smooth and I haven't gotten any FCs, calling glitches or anything you've experienced.
I just think its odd that people blame all their problems on the build. Its understandable if everyone is having the same issues as you, but when you're the odd one out, doesn't that mean you're the one thats the problem?

Well when Im looking through the threads and Im reading the titles that people post who are experiencing the same issues as I am and many others on this site, then I would assume its the build and not just one particular person. Not to mention its a leak.....Its not even an official release so for you to sit here and claim that it is more STABLE than the STOCK BUILD or anywhere close, you sound like a fan/groupie of DK28 rather than a person who is speaking from knowledge. There are more people on this thread than me who have been experiencing more than a few issues with the "leaked" froyo. When dialing out and sometimes the call not going through or you can talk but cant hear is a KNOWN ISSUE with the "BUILD" that even the devs are curious about. Never had an issue like that on the stock BUILD. Anyways like I said F DK28.
For me, Quantum 2.1 is more stable than the stock ever was. It's not fanboy speak, it's that we know what we're doing and it's pretty obvious that Froyo is much faster. Maybe Froyo doesn't work as well on older revisions of the Epic hardware, I know I got mine in December rather than when it was first released. But for me, it is much better than the crappy stock rom which is bloated with Sprint garbage.
Do we all care about if someone flashes back. It seems like posts like this keep clutterng up the forums. It makes it really difficult to search. Who cares u went back to stock. Mod please delete thread.

Get off his case. He's sharing his experience on DK28 vs DI18 in case some DI18 users were still on the fence as to whether or not they want to jump to a buggy 2.2.1 build. There's a lot of hate going around these forums and it's the response like what you just gave thats give people a poor outlook of our community.
Personally I've experienced both sides of the argument. I went with DK28 first and killed my gps, flashed back to DI18 and went with ACS for 3 weeks. Got sick of 2.1 and really wanted some 2.2 features back so I went with midNIGHT and a 2.3 theme.
Thanks for your thoughts OP, I share the same concerns but found some of the buggy issues of DK28 to outweigh the bugs and lack of features of DI18. I actually think its funny though because a buggy DK28 makes me want a real stable froyo build even more than being on eclair made me want a 2.2 update lol

Exactly! I have been flashing my phone since I had my Touch Pro so I know all about leaks and the benefits they bring to a hardcore phone user like myself. I enjoyed DK28 for sometime now and it seems like the more people do to it the more some things stop working. I just got to the point where I was just tired of constantly updating the ROM with the newer version because the dev "FIXED" another DK28 issue. I appreciate all of their hard work. I even donated to a few of them because they made me love my Epic again with all these new EXT4 and no journaling mods. My phone has never been so fast and snappy......But at the end of the day when I need to use my phone I dont need it to do a random reboot or even worse miss a call because the other person cant hear me which is a very common problem some users are having. Although now that I am back on the DI18.......Its hard to find all those cool mods that I have been so used to. lol. Decisions decisions.

Way to get defensive without backing your claims. There are also much more than a few people who aren't experiencing the same problems you are. I've never even heard of the dial out bug nor experienced it in any flash. If you don't want to work to get a good beta experience, why are you even on XDA and flashing in the first place? I find that DK28 isn't perfect, but its still leaps and bounds better than stock.
You have problems? Try to get them fixed, reflash or ask some questions on the Q&A. Don't just blame it on the build. Basic rule of thumb? If majority don't have the same problem you're having, double check what you've done or reflash.

Riiiiiiiiiiiight
To use the OS "windows" as an analogy for you...
How do you think the bugs get found and fixed? When Vista (or any OS for this matter) was in Beta 1 / Beta 2 stage... guess what? It had MORE BUGS / glitches then the version that was released to the public. When it went to RC stage, it had less bugs then the beta. When it went to RTM (the version released to the public) it had less buts the beta and the rc.
Nothing will ever be 100% bug free, but to say you dont think there is a difference between alpha/beta/rc and final builds is very VERY naive of you.
P.S. if you were being sarcastic, my bad lol
Actually MS betas don't work that way, they release betas and continue to fix the bugs they are allowed to fix and run 100000 regression scripts and if any regressions are found they actually unfix the bug and attempt a different fix for it.
Eventually they end up releasing a few release candidates and end up picking the least buggy of these to promote to RTM.
I have a number of friends who work as SDE/Ts for MS, this is how it goes.
Also -- it's very possible that an updated code branch has more bug fixes than bugs introduced on smaller projects (like Android customizations) versus something huge like Windows.

Seriously? Don't you think if the build was so perfect, Sprint would have released it by now?
Fact: There are bugs in DK28. Congrats that you aren't experiencing them.
I personally experience the calling out bug, but not the GPS bug. My accelerometer was jacked up for a while when I moved to DK28 until I found a good workaround (and no, the simple "recalibrate in the terminal method" didn't work). HOWEVER, the benefits to me are greater than the disadvantages of having these bugs in DK28.
This is a forum - the OP was sharing his experience. What kind of forum would it be if no one was able to share there personal experiences with the phone we all have?

So... you had a bug and you looked around and found a way to fix it. Congrats. Thats exactly what my advice was.
I've had FC problems on prior Rom flashes before. I reflashed and took my time to fix it. My phone runs smoothly now. I could just Odin DI18 and blame it all on DK28, but like most people, I took the time to get it right. If it were an OTA upgrade, you could blame it on the build, but its a Rom, so take the time to get it running and like you said yourself, there are plenty of people to help with good workarounds.
I don't understand all the pandering and hand holding thats encouraged in these forums. You encourage whining and then complain when there is so much of it. How about encouraging these same people to go out and improve their phones instead of coddling them?
+1 Theres so many resources and answers theres no reason to not have a sweet running, personalized non buggy phone on dk28

At least this means that they are working on an update. The only problem I have is with taking videos in low light. But I hardly ever do that so it isn't a deal breaker for me. Everything else is 100 times better than DI18 for what I use.
It says that a hard reset fixes the issues. People that have been running DK28 for a few months are already used to this sort of behavior. You cannot rely on these OTA upgrades. It's like upgrading Windows versions. Wipe and and clean install is always the best policy.

I'm not sure the pull means that. It sounds like the problem is with the updating mechanism, not with EB13 itself. It could easily be just the updating scripts themselves that they are working on.
I do think they are always working on new builds, but I have no idea how seriously they are considering actually making one of those publicly-available nor what sort of time course they might have in mind.
I have heard the issues that Sprint was having (relative is an employee). It's nothing that I would have pulled the OTA over TBH. Stuff like calendar syncing not working (clear data clears that right up). From what I heard it sounds like it's all stuff that is related to user data and cache issues. There was nothing on the list that we didn't already know about.
I knew the data issue on the EB13 modem getting 18kbps & 30kbps was not related to anything else but the modem. Odin back to DK28, & while not real fast, nothing compared to EB13. Epic fail!

wow, this section is about to be blown apart.
I believe that the OTA was pushed out sensing the increasing noise about the update. It was certainly not ready, and they knew it, I think. They must also have known they might need to pull it back.
One wonders just what happened last year between Samsung and Sprint that caused this mess. It's surprising that even after so many months, they failed to provide a decent update! Can one of the mods, who was in talks with SamsungJohn, throw some much needed light on all this, if SamsungJohn provided some important info., and also if the time frame around the yet-another-update is known.

I may or not not work for sprint and as far as I can tell, these issues only effect the OTA update, not the over the wire update, FWIW...
I think so sprint/samsung should just give us 2.3/.4 and call it a day, I'm upset about the wait but at least toss us some sort of bone for our troubles.

Hey All:
I am looking to talk with a dev or someone that knows what they are doing as i have never done this. But, I want to create a "dump" of the OS on my epic. The reason for this is that i have seen a lot of post when i searched here and googled that sprint and sumsung pulled the EB13 update but whats funny is i just replaced my epic today and got a new one from my local store that shipped with EB13 on it so I figured people might want a clean OS that came preinstalled on my phone to compare it against the EB13 OTA/Update.zip.
That's very kind of you mate, but we already have the "clean os" stock tar files for the Epic's EB13 update. Just go into the development section, the files are there.

If they had changed it the version wouldn't be EB13 anymore. It would be a later date.
Phone Info
Model number: SPH-D700
Firmware Version: 2.2.1
Baseband Version: S: D700.0.5S.EB13
Kernal Version: 2.6.32.9
Build number: FROYO.EB13
Hardware Version: D700.0.5
I had DI18, DK28 and EB13 (first release and re-releases). It just seems that this version on my phone currently is very responsive, no lag, no camera problem, GPS quick lock-on.
Like said I am doing this so a dev can compare to other EB13 releases to see if anything has change that might help them with theme development. Consider it my contribution to the community. Also, It would be nice to have a full OS back-up of my current phone.
I think its the same there was just problems with OTA release but its good on an install like Odin so they just do that now
I would be very interested to see if the dump of the pre-installed EB13 is different from the ones from Samsung. I hope someone can help the OP dump the stock ROM.
I can guarantee there are no differences. The phone began shipping with 2.2 after the ota. The update was pulled about a week later. Probably just luck of the draw that you even got a eb13 phone.
Furthermore, as stated, the build string would NOT be the same. As it is currently march now the build would be something like EC11 (pure example).

Aha. Smells authentic. Guess I'll remain contented with 2.1 a bit longer, why not. stability > ability (for now)
Yay. I can confirm the following bugs after using OTA ED01 for a couple hours:
1) 50% time w/o signal bug still there. Still need airplane toggle after boot.
2) Browser scrolling choppy as ever.
3) Pop email client still snaps to top of list after reading each email.
4) battery issues / wakelock needs more testing
Now then, we know Samsung and VZW were not working on fixing any bugs in the last several months that they have been sitting on this code. All bugs from froyo leaks 2.5 months ago are still in there.
Seems to me there was 0 priority put on this update, since it was delivered extremely late and still chock full of bugs. My assessment is Samsung is way understaffed AND integrating bing caused some negative interactions between the companies involved. I won't buy another Samsung... and probably should move off of VZW.

What's a better option in your opinion besides Samsung? Are you more pissed at Samsung or Verizon?

My frustration is primarily with vzw on this... But I've known, or accepted, that one chooses a wireless service provider by asking "who sucks less?".

Weird, I don't use the email client, but I have not experienced any of those issues. My battery does not drain while sleeping (with bt, gps and data all on) everything is smooth as can be. And I have never had to toggle airplane mode. All these bugs I had in dl30 and eb01, but none at all in this release. Also I have had no screen response issues anymore either. Not saying your wrong just posting my experience as well.

Yeah, I have been playing around with it a little, and have found the save thing. No bugs so far.

The only thing that wonders me is new radio. Is is the the same as EC01? It's too soon to ask probably but maybe somebody had missed calls issue with it yet?

We'll have to see how it goes fellow chicagoland resident. I odin'd and ota'd to get the new radio and frameworks and files were compared lastnight and there is some differences in the frameworks between EC01 and ED01 so I'm gonna run themeless until I have time to port my theme over to the new frameworks. Initial impression I have is my data speeds are a little higher and more constant. But I'll give it a go traveling about the city today.
Oh, @OP the tws bug is not limited to our device. It's a froyo thing that many devices suffer from. Google it.
good day.
Everything looks good here... Besides battery life. I just did the ota at 9:30 this morning after about an hour **** has drained 30%. Oh well. I was using heavily, im gonna flash the debloated one and wipe bstats and what not to see if I get some improvement.

If you had display on for an hour 30% drain is normal I think.
I just read the release notes for ed01 posted by kaus... It lists some added bloat, but in many cases contradicts the op of this thread (subject to verification I guess ;-).

My wife and I have this phone. I am running EB01 Superclean and I just odin'd her phone to stock last night and upgraded to OTA ED01. So far, no time without signal bug, browser does not seem choppy, no wakelocks so far. Maybe you should odin to stock and start fresh if you have not done so already. I think that this can fix a lot of issues. No doubt that after brief testing my Superclean w/ -100 imnuts kernel is kicking the snot out of a stock ED01 froyo so far. But I always give it a week for the battery to calibrate and settle so I will report back.
i also have superclean 2.9.2 (nv). i'm not sure if i want to go back to stock and do the official ota because I finally LIKE my phone for the first time since... November? I really liked it for the first month (Oct) when I thought the OTA was due any day... but since then, not so much. but after installing superclean a week or so ago, suddenly i don't care about the ota. unless i hear from one of you more experienced gurus that it's the way to go, that is. I love that I don't have all that bloat on my phone. If i do the ota, I presume the bloat will come with it, and I've heard of people then cleaning up the phone... how is that different from what I already have? should I stay put or is there a distinct advantage to doing the ota and then cleaning it up? any advice and logic behind it would be appreciated. thanks.
Wife and I both have fasc I odin'd her back to stock took ota she so far has not been able to make calls out off and on all day she could answer tho...?? However.. What pisses me off the most is vzw dropping price and trying to sell this to everyone for mothers day like my mom needs this f/%ked up unsupported phone swindled to her."why yes madam this has the very latest software it has always been our best phone and now your kids can make you the coolest mom ever" scam scam scam or should I say spin spin spin the greatest company on the planet can you hear me now.. Ahh no cause my froyo won't make a call

Well maybe you can do the mature thing and call Verizon instead of *****ing about a problem that ONLY you are having. Or maybe you can try factory resetting it.
Don't *****, that only gets you flamed.

I did read, but after that he updated did an OTA. If he already Odined I don't see the pain in doing a reset. Doesn't hurt.
What's up with not being able to download tapatalk either?? I upgraded ota and its still in my purchased list but won't let me install..and when I search it the market doesn't find it.

Has anyone else noticed that you can't delete gmail emails after the update? I delete them and they come right back. This is even with having full 3g service and excellent reception.

Don't worry superclean in my opinion is still better. It has all the great sbrissen mods and its only got a couple very tiny bugs (even though I can't think of one)
Plus all the themes you could ever want AND ec01 themes are fine on super clean... I think I'll just chill with what I got.

got this from a "sprint rep" on their forums

I apologize for the frustrations associated with the current issues with the GB release... Please know that we are aware of many of the issues people are experiencing and are working with HTC to resolve them. Although I don't have a time frame now, they will be sending out a patch to resolve issues associated with your device.
SOOO take it for what its worth and maybe there is a hair of hope .....

I had a prompt to download an update today. I skipped cuz I'm still holding out for root on this update that I'm on. I'm not actually having issues other than I can't root...
sent from my 2.3.3 unrooted piece o ****....
I was also prompted for an update today, after just being prompted for the GB update the other day. I was hoping maybe they were being true to their word and unlocking the bootloader.
It was a rather lengthy update process with two reboots involved.

Not to sound like a douche, but I think it's pretty obvious that Sprint & HTC plan on releasing an update that would fix the problems presented with the GB update.
There was the 4.22 update,GB
Then the 4.24 update,GB fix,
Are you guys saying there is a 3rd update being pushed?

I'm wondering the same thing...I've already had two updates. I took both of them because I like my evolution stock, only reason I ever rooted my hero is because Sence made it sluggish.

at this point in time....i am not confident that we will have any sort of solution in the near future, we will simply have to deal with this horrible android version of gingershitbread, i never tought id hate the awsomeness that is an EVO , but currently...i kind of do, clearing user data, resetting, done it all, it still sucks arse and glitches half the dam time, its horrible, if id have known i would have stayed with stock 2.2 (not because of root but because it actually friggin functioned better)
I waited a couple weeks and did the rooted stock rom, 4.24
Have had no issues after a full week of use.

the more i think about it you think he said that just to shut me up and so the sprint forums dont get filled up with posts about it ??? I dunno; like the corp store told me; "as long as you can make and recieve calls there is nothing wrong with your handset"
IT suxx to be stock its like having a maseratti that only goes 55MPH
