YES HUGE!
Nexus S runs the Hummingbird chip while the Incredible runs the Snapdragon chip. Different GPUs use different drivers, so anything being ported from the Nexus S is going to run like total crap on our phones. There is no way around this, nothing the devs can do. We have to wait for AOSP (Android Open Source) to drop or get a Nexus One-also running a Snapdragon chip-before we can get the gingerbread port really rolling.
Ah... ok, that makes total sense. Has anyone noticed how ridiculously fast the browser on gingerbread is? Can't wait til the official release.
Do we have the .apk for the browser?

Yes, all sfreier did was quote r2doesinc from his post in the 2.3 Gingerbread ROM page.

hi there
since there are so many modded froyo roms by some excellent devs on xda
question came to my mind as
what will b the difference between official froyo 2.2 and modded roms...
will the official rom will be more faster than the current leaked roms?
what will b the difference in terms of speed and stability
The official will have most bugs worked out (hopefully) and will have JIT

Until there is an official ROM out you won't know.
It's all speculation, but I honestly do not see major differences between that and JK2.
Well hopefully GPS is fixed in the official 2.2 release.
Will it be faster? Probably not. Will it be filled with bloatware? Probably. Sometimes I doubt that these devs work more than T-Mobiles software engineers.

The Official release probably won't be fully optimized either.
I wouldn't expect proper optimization until after 2.3/Nexus S launches.

Because it's a port from an SDK and it won't ever run right. Not worth really messing with until source is out.

Initially, they did the port and it was crazy slow and plenty of things didn't work. They did get it to run faster and make most things work, but it was no where near as fast as it is now. That's because they built it from source, optimized for devices.

You mean "could be bothered" to port it. I'm sure that someone _could_, but an OS designed for a tablet on a 4.3" screen would be a bit average.
Wait for the Cyanogen guys to port IceCream Sandwich (Android 4.0?) if/when it turns up. By that time Samsung will have dropped the SGS2 like last weeks spam sandwich and will be pushing the SGS3 instead.
Of course, that won't be until around Christmas sometime I'd be guessing.
God dammit, this is about the 3rd topic on the same thing. SDK does not equal the whole os, google have only put out the source for the gpl bits and a lot of android is apache.
And a 3.0 port wouldn't make much sense on a 4.3inch screen
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA Premium App
this is the exact reason why Google hasn't made honeycomb open sourced.
Honeycomb is only meant for tablets. Until people learn to accept that it will remain closed. We've already seen android ruined by sub-par OEMs putting android on their **** hardware.
I hope not, honeycomb looks so messy at the moment
There really is no point putting honeycomb on a phone, the optimisations are mainly just for larger screens. If there is something nice in there it normally gets ripped out and cooked into a ROM or app anyway, its just a waste of time doing a full port IMHO.

I think we're all aware of this as well, but for those that don't read many threads, GB Source for our Epics have been released.
Also, after the unveil of the Samsung Nexus Prime, The 4.0 SDK is also available.
Here is the Roboto Font from ICS.

I've had the font for a little bit now it's pretty nice, but all the apps are odexed and there isn't a means to deodex them yet, so we have to wait and see I believe.
Yeah, I saw that you posted, I installed soon after, very easy on the eyes. I'm excited for ICS even though we just got GB source. I'm thinking maybe Google's ICS framework is what's needed for that sexy contacts or as they say, "people app", but I want that on my epic.
Yeah, I'm trying to take images from the ICS keyboard and move them to the Gingerbread keyboard. I replaced all the files....and yet, it still shows Gingerbread images. D:
But the font makes it more enjoyable.
Thanks Shiny, now that GB source just hit, you would think all the Debbie Downers would shut the hell up but now I am already seeing threads as to when will we get ICS. And this adds fuel to their fire....LOL.

Don't know if that is what they meant by it should be capable on 2.3 devices. More that the hardware will be able to handle ICS if it could handle Gingerbread. This would not be the first time though that a phone runs a newer version of android with a modified older kernal.
I just read on CNET that both these phones are getting the ICS update from HTC. This will work for the EVO 4G won't it?

No. ROMs are device-specific. Unless you were trying to say something else?
That's like a slap in the face the design gets it but not the og evo.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA
All slapping aside, the significance of this for OG Evo users has more to do with custom ROM development: an official build for the Evo 3D could provide a much easier way to make an *unofficial* ICS Sense ROM - I'm assuming the 3D is more similar to the OG than the "primo" (or whatever gave us the base for the PrimOG effort)..

From a specification perspective, the Primo is much closer than the 3D to the OG, besides already being the correct resolution. That's why it's being used for the porting effort.
We've had an unofficial 3D build floating around here for quite a while already.

They aren't. The Design 4G (like the 3D) has a 2nd Gen Snapdragon, and a qHD screen, along with more RAM. So both devices can handle a lot more than our now ancient 1st Gen CPU.

Primog? If that's what you meant, then yes the dev has just been busy with life. If you're talking about this thread, then no port is going on here. Plus sense 3.6 is fatter than sense 4.0, as HTC's objective was to make 4.0 light and not bloated like previous versions of sense
Sent from my PC36100 using xda app-developers app
Well said, bennyboy. No port here. The only ICS Sense port I know of is PrimOG, and it has a much better shot at success than a port from a dual-core, different resolution, higher RAM device.
