[Q] data cable performance - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

I have searched xda site but have not found an answer to the following.
I have 2 hd2's running Android running MDJ FroYo Sense Revolution v1.7. with radio's 2.15.50.02 and 2.15.50.14. These are nice and stable and good for everyday use, and according to current widget draw 3 - 5mA in standby. I have recently had to replace the data cables that came with the devices as they both became defective at the micro usb end. I have now purchased two replacements (from different sellers) that looked identical and were sold as a replacement. However the charging rate was now noticeably slower (according to current widget) than before and I was no longer able to use Microsoft Active sync for updating the radio version. The wife has a Samsung Galaxy Apollo that came with a micro usb to USB cable. If I use this cable everything is good. i.e fast recharge and can use Active sync and as a usb device. Is current widget reliable? And why the difference? All help gratefully received.

First off, you should have posted this question either in the General Discussion or Q&A section of this forum. But I will answer your question and request the moderator to move this thread to the appropriate forum. As a cable manufacturer in the medical industry, and seeing for years the variation in build quality (why we have ISO standards which helps), it is probable you have a defective cable. Since you don't see the same problem with your wife's data cable when you connect it. I suspect the cable manufacturer like most only tests a portion of their cable runs they manufacturer and this is probably one that got through that doesn't work properly for you.

Sorry I did not know where to post, but the phones run on Andriod at all times. As I stated two different suppliers and the cables are not idenical in appearence, so a one off dodgy cable seems unlikely.

You might want to delete this thread. However the problem was that both micro connectors were the wrong type. The cable must be micro USB ab. Not just micro USB. From what I have gathered the pins are configured differently internally. I now have resolved my problem by buying the correct cable. The original problem was caused by sellers starting that their cables were compatable replacements. Other Newbies may learn from this.

mini-usb dead,please help

Hi
I have a serious problem. While my athena was being charged with my car charger I saw smoke in the charger. I disconnected it from the athena but probably too late. Now the mini usb is totally dead: I cannot charge it or connect to the pc and the light around the joystick doesn't light up when I insert the cable into the mini usb. Now there's 20% of the battery left so soon I'll have to do sth about it.
My question is can it be fixed without sending it to the service? They keep it a horribly long time in my country.
I'd really appreciate any help,please
You can charge the battery with the Athena cradle, they are cheap in ebay and come with a battery so when the Athena battery is nearly empty you just swap with the one in the cradle.
To connect with the computer you can use a bluetooth dongle, it will work with activesinc files transfer etc
otherwise the only solution for the USB connector is send it for service and depending of the damage it may be either a easy patch or a new board if there is tracks damage
Good luck
Thanx for aome advice PBL1. I suspected that I can't fix it without having it sent to the service. I guess I'll wait and see what they do (it's still under guarantee) before I decide to buy the docking station as it is rather expensive for Polish conditions. On the other hand I've been thinking of buying it for some time already, perhaps it's high time I did it.
I just don't know how they will react to the Michy Prima ROM cause I have no means of flashing back to the factory one. Thanx again for the advice
I can tell you that the total cost to my docking station was £30 if I remember correctly, that included the postage and the battery, given the price of the battery alone, it was worthwhile because I consider essential to have a fully charged extra battery if I am somewhere without possibility to charge.
I believe You may downgrade the room by the miniSD card method, do a search around here, there several threads about upgrading the rom with that method, it is worth to consider since some body posted that he sent the athena for servicing with SPL 3.5 and HTC flashed the original rom without considering that it was the wrong SPL, basically they sent back the item to the customer with a black screen.
However if you have SPL3.5 and want to use the downgrader to go back to SPL1.2 or to the original SPL perhaps you may check with cmonex that it is possible with out risks.
If you are in SPL1.2 I don't think you should have any problem.
regards
Yes you're abolutely right about a spare battery and the docking station. I have already decided (have been thinking all day today) to buy both as constant charging is a bit annoying. As for downgrading I'll really have to search for a mini sd solution cause the htc service in Poland might not be really user friendly. BTW could you possibly send me a link to a place with docking stations at this price? In Poland it costs more or less $100 and on ebay you may find cheaper ones but with one usb slot not two.
There you got
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/HTC-X7500-Adv...39:1|66:2|65:12|240:1318&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14
Note: these do not include battery, at the time I got it they offered the extra battery in the package ( it was a wile ago), if I remember correctly the cheapest battery at the time seemed to run at £24 today it looks that you can find them must cheaper.
Note 2: since you USB connection is dead you can use the cradle for extra battery charge, VGA and USB host (external memory storage devices such as drives, card readers) I didn't try external keyboards mouses and such but they should work.
but you cannot use the USB for communication with your computer (activesink, USB to PC....) because the cradle use the normal micro USB for those, for those you can use Bluetooth as explained early but of course that is not good for rom flashing
I wouldn't suggest using that car charger anymore. If its under warranty, you'll definitely want to reflash the original ROM. Whatever you do, don't try to flash a ROM or downgrade your SPL using a bluetooth dongle
Hi
I have just received the cradle plus an extra battery, there asre still some cheep offers on ebay.
Now, as Weaselcossey says I have to flash the oryginal ROM via mini SD card. J've been searching this place but couldn' find an easy step by step instruction, expecially how to extract the .nbh file from the exe file thet the oryginal ROM is in. Does any one lnow some links?
I never done myself but perhaps you could try this?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=312394
I'm going to try it out just now. But anyway it's kind of hard for me to part with my athena. That's why I've been waiting with giving it to the service, especially now wwith 2 batteries and the cradle. By the way there's also a nice mains charger on Ebay which Iwill probably buy soon: http://cgi.ebay.pl/O502-Desktop-battery-charger-for-HTC-Advantage-X7500_W0QQitemZ260138961370QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item260138961370&_trkparms=72%3A1399%7C39%3A1%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C240%3A1318&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

The device doesn't support the USB headset. Please remove it.

Hello All,
I have enjoyed reading other threads to find out more about my HTC 3333.
I have had my Touch 2 for a couple of months now, however lately, and quite frequently, I receive this annoying message 'the device doesnt support the USB headset. Please remove it.' There is nothing attached to the USP port, yet this message appears. I have used the USB port for synching with my laptop and have used the factory supplied cable as well as a standard mini USB cable.
Has anyone else experienced this problem?
Your valued opinions and advice would be appreciated
I have never seen this on my phone. It could be rom bug, or on the other hand it could be from a program you recently installed.
I thought a busted rom might be the problem so uploaded the latest rom from the HTC site. After installing the latest rom from HTC all the programmes and files on the phone were wiped but the message keeps appearing... I figure now I might have done some physical damage to the USB port.. I am not looking forward to sending my phone to HTC care for repair..
Even my HTC got the same issue. I think, as we had given with 3.5mm port the USB headset has disable.
Have you noticed any other mobile working with USB ? I dont think so ......
I found on another thread, another HTC user had a similar problem. The solution they said was to clean out the USB port because it had filled up with lint and other junk from their pocket. I just cleaned it as best I could with a soft bristled brush and will wait and see if that has helped reduce frequency of the warning sign popping up! It's a minor problem but it's enough to drive you mad! :
If this doesnt help, then for sure its a USB problem. You might wanna send it to repair service or use only bluetooth.
I have a brand new phone, which also gives this message. I did assume it was due to the presence of the 3.5mm port.
I had same problem a couple months ago. You should give the phone your technical service because there is a problem on your mainboard
I think the problem may only be with the USB cable you are using. I had this warning with one cable I bought in China, but not with the original cable. My original cable has just died so I pulled out the cable from china and the warning comes back.

Meaning behind various COM# in Odin?

Hey everyone-
I've been curious about what specifically the different COM modes mean in Odin while flashing roms onto the vibrant? I know that COM6 is generally what u wanna work when using Odin with the vibrant, but I've flashed numerous roms when Odin has shown other COM# messages. Anyways, I was just curious if anyone actually knew exactly what each one meant, just wondering? Thanks in advance.

I think that is what port you are using. Try plugging into a different usb port and it should change. Ive mever too much worried with the numbering and have never had any problems.
You should be able to turn on and off whether a certain port is set to high or low power via your computer settings, that is the only thing I can think of that would make a difference. I have also heard that the usb cord you use can make a difference. I know when I first got my phone odin was impossible and I do think that was due to the cord as it had a hard time making a connection and ended up corroding the micro usb port on my phone. After I cleaned it and switched to a cord that fit the phone better all of my problems went away. I also know someone else who got a cord like that from samsung and it had trouble connecting so he sent it back and and his new one has not had any trouble. So if you have a particular usb port you use whether its 5 or 6 etc. if its been working fine it should be ok. If your using windows it will usually tell you whether or not the usb you are using is high speed or not, which is what you want as that translates to better flashing, charging, and everything else. Sorry for my rambling, hope that helps bobofosho.

Most operations that involved firmware mockery are performed via serial connectivity, since you have a USB interface, there are OS calls made to perform USB to serial conversion - and in essence turning the USB interface into emulated serial interface COM port (communication port).
Did I bore you with details? You asked for it, I hope I answered it.

Galaxy Tab Teardown

here you can find how the Galaxy Tab is constructed :
http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Samsung-Galaxy-Tab-Teardown/4103/1
and intrestingly here there is the datasheet of the wifi/bt/fm chip:
http://pdf.eccn.com/pdfs/Datasheets/Broadcom/BCM4329.pdf
as you can see it got fm support and not only a receiver but also a transmitter meaning that implementing support at kernel level you could listen your mp3 or whatever you want on your car radio!
it got double simultaneous stereo bt output support ! wow
as you can see bt spec are about 2.1+edr and not 3.0 ... why?
cause bt3.0 is simply a bt2.1edr+wifi support for large files...so hardware is the same , only software support is needed for 3.0!
you can see the collaborative support bt+wifi described inside the datasheet and even wimax support!
I am interested in knowing if it is possible to power a portable hdd from the tab. I recently tried to plug my portable 1tb usb powered hdd into the tab via a usb to micro adaptor I got on eaby. It all connects up, however there is not power to the drive. I wonder if any tech guys who break these things down would know if there is a switch or program that would make this possible. This way, I can have 1 tb of vids and apps instead of 16gb on an sd card.
dubie, I have already answered this question in your thread about the matter, and even went as far as to explain WHY it will not work. Please do not hijack other's threads, especially for info that was answered in your own thread about the matter.
On another note, cheers for the links Triplex Good to see the innards of our tab hehe.
just a quick OT answer to dubie...
usb host function is not supported from the tab at the moment but this is not the only problem.
to work properly an external usb 2.5" hard drive needs almost 500mA, it doesn't need (the best one!) that much of juice when working but when starting to spin it needs double the mA cause there is a peak just as it happens for car battery where specs are different for start amperage (peak) and continuos one.
galaxy tab can't provide 500mA, better can't provide at all cause the usb is not a feeded one type.there are phones and tabs where the usb works as an host but they needed an external power supply to feed the hard-disk if you want to connect one.usb host on mobile stuff is just there for static memory, pendrives, external hid peripherals.probably some newer ssd could work good too.
Other than repair and information, are there any mods that can be done by taking one of these apart?

Lost fast charge and USB data transfer A7 (SM-A7100) - Hong Kong version

Hello. I'm from Mexico and bought SM-A7100 by Internet. Recently, I plugged an OTG USB cable on V8 phone connector. After this, phone lost fast charge and USB data transfer.
On official Samsung repair and service center in my country, technician told me probably sub PBA part (charge system) is damaged but this is not available here. Is it possible to get imported part for this phone model via Internet? Any suggestions? Is charge system expensive?

I really hope you found a solution. Ive been looking an answer for this annoying problem for 6 months!
Ive read almost 50 threads in differents forums about this problem but no solution at all.
- Tried changing charging port. Cost me a few dollars but no solution.
- Tried USB debugging on and off from developers menu.
- Did MTP+ADB option in *#*#0808#* menu.
- Turned Low Battery Dump "on" in *#*#0808#* menu.
- Tried 10 or more different original Samsung cables.
- Upgraded PC USB drivers.
None of them worked for me.
Hope you have made a progress.
Thank you for your response and for your best wishes. I have changed charge port too without success, but it appears the problem is related to logic board of the phone. Since it's a hardware issue, I left the search for a solution. If I get a favorable result, then I'll inform the procedure to you. Best regards.
