Well, it might have monkey glass Less strong ... but allright.
I wonder how tough it is. Many people thought it had Gorilla Glass and that was part of their reasoning behind not using a screen protector etc...
Now not knowing how tough it is I wonder if people will reconsider going "naked"

Yes, I assumed the same thing, but I've gone "naked" with all my smartphones for a couple of years and never scratched any of them except my very first iPhone original model.
I wonder why they skipped the Gorilla Glass...all the other Galaxy S models have it. Maybe GG doesn't do the curve well?
I went naked with my EVO and never had a scratch. Just don't put it in your pocket with sand or car keys. Glass is very difficult to scratch.
Looks like Google is starting to cut corners.
They seem to have left out a bunch of things that were already present in the Galaxy S phones. Maybe to rush to market? Holiday sales?

I feel this is the general consensus, and while I don't doubt there are many happy adopters of the NS, I can't help but feel some people are making excuses to justify their purchase. For example, many say we don't "need" HSPA+. Let's be consistent: there are many things on the phone we don't need. Yet when weighed against the fact that all carriers are pushing for "4G" going into 2011, disappointment over the lack of it is perfectly justified.
I want to like the Nexus S, as well.

I completely agree. Just because Google tells us that this is the best they could do this time, we have to bow down and take it; or find excuses to justify our purchase. That's why I got rid of my iphone; I was tired of making excuses about its limitations. I can forsee lots of buyer's remorse very soon.
Well it's been reported that the MT4G doesn't have gorilla glass either... screen seems just as strong as my Vibrant's, but again, that's just my opinion... haven't actually tested it heh.

Google hasn't given any good reasons for people to go for a N:S instead of other phones (for example Galaxy S, which IMO still is better).

i just did a screen comparison of my n1 next to my managers new iphone for, on identical pictures the color on the n1 is LEAPS and BOUNDS above the iphone. I will admit that the pixel density on the iphones screen is really really good, but the color reproduction? totally washed out.
AMOLED displays have amazzzzzzing color and contrast, u would think a multimedia focused device, such as an iphone would have taken that into consideration.

That's what I did. I sold my 3gs to get the n1 for att day one. And now I bought the 4 on the 29th and sold it a week later. I was worried that there are cool phones coming to att this summer and I already used my upgrade. But looking at reports I don't see anything coming up.
My n1 does everything I need and would want. And I got a nice pocket change for the iPhone 4. And the cool thing is that my wait time was only 2 hours.

I'm sure they did consider OLED for the iPhone, but there's no way anyone could meet the supply demands. Samsung can't make them fast enough.
Jesus guys, lay off already. iPhone 4 is an amazing piece of hardware, but Android phones are released every other week, and the hardware is bound to catch up and surpass apple's. The article's author clearly has a defective iPhone, writing about it as if it had any kind of relation to all iPhones is at the very least misleading.
We all know where this is heading. The world is moving towards Open, and eventually Jobs will kill iOS with all his crazy "save people from porn" shenanigans. We don't need to act as if they were religions. It's just a fact, with Google backing it, Android will eventually win out.
All iPhones 4's are defective with their external antenna design.
The actual hardware is sweet. Unfortunately the software is all chained up and limited.
I was very pleased to read this-
http://www.gsmarena.com/200000_samsung_glaxy_s_phones_sold_in_south_korea_in_10_days-news-1786.php
Considering the fact that stocks sell off like hot scones in the UK and there are even shortages, and the fact that the device is selling well in the U.S even before carrier-based versions started selling, i see a bright future for the Galaxy S platform.
If in south korea alone it sold 200,000 , and in the UK Clove, Expansys and Handtec had severe shortages untill several days ago, i'm guessing it already sold over 300-350K worldwide.
Again, even before carriers around the world started marketing it.
Now i want to see what happens after carriers around the world start selling it, if these kinds of numbers will continue to flow in, i think it's close to impossible that samsung won't support it for a prolonged period.
Share your 2 cents, i'm having great expectations right now.

^ Yeah, I lol at that one.
But OP, your right. This is Samsung's all out effort to gain marketshare in the smartphone area. They are #2 when it comes to feature phones (dumb phones). However, in smartphone market, they are #4 or 5. In fact, last quarter they LOST market share. Analysts have projected that in a few years, the majority of phones sold will be smartphones, so it is imperative for Samsung to gain market share and win over customers. You can not do that with products that are unsupported. I bet they got a wake up call when HTC came out of no where and gained market share quicker then Samsung did. In fact HTC (which is very small company compared to Samsung), has a greater market share than the big ol Samsung. They know for a fact that with increased relations with developers, that their handsets have gained sales. Samsung created an open source distribution website where source codes for most of their products have been released since April of this year. So that is a good positive step in the right direction. Also, we all know Samsung makes great hardware, however their software side has been less stellar. Its beginning to be changed as more money and resources are pouring into the software side.(Bada, new R&D center in India devoted to software, new emphasis by corporate to focus more money in software etc).
I hope we are right.
As far as I can see, Samsung is winning customers over HTC right now. I am one of those, and I spotted many others in the forums.
IMO the point is that HTC's success has been largely undeserved, but rather based on the efforts of people here on XDA; on the contrary, it looks like they did everything they could to make people run away screaming. Despite all the work that has been done, even developers on XDA have never found a way to get a performance from, say, the Touch HD that could at least be called acceptable, if you look at the specs. Marketing a device as the "ultimate multimedia experience" and then selling it without proper drivers, is just pure BS. And this incredible problem affected an entire range of products for at least two years.
So, I would say, HTC should be paying a much higher price than they are, for their behaviour... we'll see in the next few months. I know I sound harsh but I seriously hope they lose it. Samsung FTW
OP needs to change his topic to something less misleading. When i first glance your "bright spot" made me thought that the new phones have some defect in the screen.
I thought your post was to say that samsung sold many phones with defective "bright spots" on their screens.

Also, it sold a lot on their "home court", if samsung will let even koreans down, their cellular department is going to take a major hit.

It's a Korean article transleted into English.

It's maybe a bit out of context, but since you were talking about shortages.

Interesting to read someones opinion, but that's all it is. My other half is Korean, and she, like I work in the electronics industry and we're both intimately aware of how Korean giants like Samsung operate, the key element in the Galaxy S isnt rapid turn around, its a change in corporate policy towards the design of the phone, by involving hundreds of potential users in the development stages.
I also disagree with his premise that the iPhone 4 is a 'great' product. I've had a play with an iPhone 4 and I think it suffers from Form over Function. It's actually a little uncomfortable in the hand. It may be made from glass and steel and look great, but such hard materials with squared off edges and profiles doesn't sit right in your hand.
The objects we most commonly hold in our hands are cups/mugs, pens and computer mice. They're rounded and softened, ok household mugs are ceramic from a practical materials aspect, but even a travel mug has a rubberized grip.
I just don't get the hysteria over the IP4, when I look at it I do see a photogenic object, but I also see a design fail.
Leaving the comfortability issue aside, i'm bothered by the durability aspect.
Using superhardened glass may be good against scratches, but without a shock absorbing frame of some sort, the harder the galss- the more prone to shattering it will be, and harder glass shatters more catastrophically.
"regular" hardness glass usually gets cracks or little shattered points.
Superhardened galss- it's "all or nothing". Either nothing hapeens, or it shatters completely.
Deciding to put the glass ON the frame instead of IN the frame (like previous iPhones) was a much bigger design flaw than the less-round corners IMO.
I'm hearing a lott of buzz about samsung using mostly plastic, and how "inappropreate" it is for a super high-end device, but from a pratical viewpoint-
It's durable, it's cheap and easy to replace it's comfortable, and it doesn't block reception as much as more expensive materials.
Indeed, my BlackBerry is plastic, and that's never been an issue.
Friends,
Just saw that Samsung confirmed the release of New Pink Galaxy Note, with android 4.0 ICS . Does that mean, android 4.0 ics is finally officially out today or tomorrow? Sounds exciting!

Along with the phone you get a matching pink S-Pen and a folding case. Interestingly, though, the phone is running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, as can be seen by the look of that Google Search widget and notification bar. The current Galaxy Note devices, as we know, are slated to get the update sometime this quarter with a special Premium Suite of apps - gsmarena.com

I think they are making a big push towards females for this phone. Mainly because males are going to be more interested at first glance. Females may not at first since most females have smaller frames/hands. It makes sense that they would have more of a push towards females to maximize sales. The Dell Streak had almost no advertising and I don't recall many females buying it. At least not on here. There might be some, but not many. I think that Note sales are stronger for this. The S pen makes it more enjoyable to use with 2 hands instead of thinking, "ugh I always have to use 2 hands". The idea is that if they can show that females with smaller hands can use it, and enjoy it, then anybody can.
This isn't really based on any real numbers or anything. The just a guess and opinion. I'm quite possibly wrong.

I got it as soon as I saw 5.3" + stylus, they didn't have to convince me a lot to move from sgs2 to the note
Someone in the main ICS thread (HINT!) pointed out that the Korean Note is actually different form the N7000.
I guess it is the chinese/korean version again. But if it was released we would have firmware already in this very forum.
I know this is a cliche thread, but I need to know some stuff.
I have a Galaxy Nexus and a Galaxy Tab 10.1. I'm interested in buying a Nexus 7, however, I'm worried about the screen lifting and image retention. I know it's a problem that only affect a handful of devices--but with my luck, I'll get a busted one.
I was going to buy one off of Craigslist; so, I don't think I'd be able to get a refund or exchange it with Google if there was some sort of issue.
What do you think? Should I not be worried about the image retention? That's my biggest fear.
Sell the TAB and get the N7. Don't buy it off Craigslist. If you buy it from the Play Store at least you'll have options.
Mine's perfect.
Don't be worried about image retention. And if you can, buy from the play store or make sure you examine that craigslist purchase because there won't be a return that way.
I have an Og evo, evo lte, viewsonic g-tab, and transformer prime. The Nexus has become my favorite in my short time with it. for portability, gaming , and overall badassery.
I've never had image retention on the nexus, have had it on my prime though.
ya go for it, the best part about it seems to be even tho it's still so new the dev support is just booming with tons of customs roms and addons already...and they are good too.
Yes!!! There are lots of development now and many people have found ways to fix the issues. But I didn't have any problems with mine luckily. And if you don't really want a 10 inch device and want some portable, definitely go for the Nexus 7.
I wasn't worried about Development. I got a Galaxy Nexus doods. I root everything.
I'm really not concerned with software, more or less hardware.
For those of you that don't have issues, when did you get yours?
Edit: Also, the reason I'm buying off of Craigslist is because this guy wants to trade his N7 for my Tab 10.1.
Errm, why would you buy from a 2nd hand shop if you were worried about warranty?? That makes no sense.

Screen lifting is by far the most common defect, and it's pretty common.
Maybe the new batches (mine were from the first and second batch) are different, but I would advise you not to buy a Nexus 7 from anywhere that will not give you hassle free exchanges.
No because they just started making them. After a year you might need proof of purchase if you needed warranty under the 1 year war.
Don't buy second hand and you have both.

I sent them an email and a tweet enquiring about an anti-glare screen protector for the Nexus 4. Not even an acknowledgement let alone a reply. Don't really appreciate their customer service even though they have quality products.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
I'd be interested if they would make one that would be similar to the Ringke Hybrid Fusion (ie clear back in addition to the edge-protecting bumper), but I really can't see any other style worthwhile. It is amazing there aren't more similar models; clearly the back of the Nexus needs some sort of protection against minor impact and there are many who don't want to add bulk or change the aesthetic.
That said, I wrote to SCP to ask them to bring the Glas.TR high end glass screen protector to the Nexus 4. They replied, but basically shot down the idea. I'm so bloody sick of how many of the high-end accessories are only available for the iPhone! I'd like to see Glas.TR brought over to compare it to the XGear and Clarivue glass protectors (with a high-end film protector included for the back) more than a bumper, but it doesn't seem this company is very receptive to our requests so far. Still, worth it to keep trying!

I think they will acknowledge the request as long as we can prove that there's a demand for it. That's why we should write on the fb page so we can get heard. If they only get one person asking for it they're not going to produce it as it's not worth their time to make something just for one person (or at least in their mind it's only for one person). I'm sick of all the iPhone support as well. Even the GSII and GSIII got way more accessories by SGP. All we have so far is one measly case by them.

To be fair, both the iPhone and Galaxy series ARE considerably more popular, actually available across all carriers, and can actually be seen being used by people. There's already a feeling of huge pent up demand for the Galaxy S4. Seeing a Nexus phone in real life is still rare as a blue moon. Case makers have to skate where the puck goes...but yes I'd love to see some of the more unique and exotic type cases SGP makes for the iPhone brought over to the Nexus 4, not this generic bland stuff that can be found with any Chinese seller on Ebay.

Yes I understand that's the reason why they get more support. I knew that. SGP is just going where the money is just like any other case maker would but they will make a case for a phone if they know there's a demand for it. We just have to prove it.
it's kinda late to be asking companies to make cases for the phone we going to get a new nexus in 5-6 months. i think if companies waited this long then they are not going to start making them now. Has any of these petitions worked for the nexus 4? i see so many of these threads but none with any real results.

the next Nexus won't be till Nov/Dec. That's more than 5 to 6 months away. Whether it works or not it's better to try than not try.

i must of been thinking about how long since the phone has been out but i dont agree that it's better to try. If companies like sgp and otterbox dont make cases for the nexus then ill buy it somewhere else, it's their lost not mine. I had the sgp hydrid for my galaxy nexus and imo it is not better than my poetic(didnt have any of the peeling issues people reported) and have a LG bumper on the way. these petitions never work anyways so you are just wasting time. Petition with your wallet instead of facebook. I've stop buying any otterbox cases since they tend to focus mostly on the iphone(their iphone case is always nicer than any android version) and now i wont buy from sgp again either.
