The latest game NinJump - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Just downloaded this game last night and when i launched it, it popped out Welcome back **** (Other ppl's account i guessed)
Then i pressed the Papaya and go to user page and saw that it was other ppl's account and at lvl 3 =.=ll
Why like this eh?

I get this too. I wonder if each build has some unique id tied to it, because this is not the case with my other stock android phone

If I remember correctly, all HD2 android builds use the same device id so the app sees every HD2 user as the same person. I'm looking for a source. Not a very good way to save game status, imo it should have a login like WordFeud.
Ah, found it: http://htc-linux.org/wiki/index.php?title=Leo/Status at the bottom where it says "device id".

G1.. Without Google?!

Hey all, haven't been around in a while.. Just bought a G1, and this had to be my first stop
So I turn it on and it's asking for my Google account. This is all good, but I'm quite attached to my tin foil hat and would rather not have my (losable) phone attached to my online persona.
Is there anyway around this? Or, if I set it up now, can I flash the phone to one of these JF firmwares and avoid Google that way? I've got my own calendar/email setup already, separate from gmail et al.
And you're wondering why I bought a Google phone when I don't want them to have my info.. Well, so am I :/
Thanks
mafro UK
The adp builds let you skip the login process but obviously calendar, gmail, and even the market won't work without your google account. I'd advise you to at least create a phony account for it. You'd want the ADP1.1h image from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=475381 to skip it
So the functionality of the phone is seriously impaired without linking to Google's services? If so, then I'm happy using a fake account for getting onto the Marketplace. Gmail isn't needed, but ill have a look at the calendar..
I spose it's worth rooting and then flashing the phone anyway right? Some of the other threads on here suggest it's worthwhile..
Thanks for your help
You want to use the google phone, made for google, running an OS made by google but you don't trust google and don't want to access google services?
Maybe it isn't the phone for you.
It'd be sort of like buying an iPhone but not wanting to use apple services.
If you've just got it I'm sure you can ebay it and get your money back.
Yeah.. that's kinda the point I finished with in my original post :S
Really I wanted a phone which runs Linux, has a keyboard and an SSH client. G1 covers all that - Windows Mobile sucks ass, and I've got an iPod Touch and decided I didnt want the closedness of an iPhone to go with it..
I'm flashing it upto JF 1.41 RC8 now.. Woop
hm. windows mobile doesn't suck ass and it provides all you are searching for.
there are devices with keyboards and there is pocket putty.
you could also get yourself an Universal, put linux on it and you have what you want.
Okay so the "sucks ass" comment is a matter of opinion
I've run with Windows for 3 years now, albeit without a keyboard. Just got fed up of the Start Menu / Settings paradigm.. I want a command prompt!
Anyway, you're right, there are other ways of doing it - the G1 is just the right size for my pocket and I get to play with the Android platform as it matures.. Shame it's all about Google. Just my 2 cents of tin foil.
without google, android would still be nowhere, imho

thats kinda like saying windows would be nowhere without microsoft or OSX would be nowhere without apple. it goes without saying :/
erm...wasn't android bought by google?

Not exactly, android was invented/created by Google in the same manor that windows was created by Microsoft.

I guess technically you can say it is similar to how Gates acquired DOS LOL he stole it... and Google paid for android. I think even Google admits to paying for it.
For me having it all integrated into Google is one perks of having a g1. I love having all my info sync online and accessible on any computer I go to.

More importantly, anyone else getting a virus hit on the file by the name of WS.Reputation.1?
I posted on this subject in the development thread.
I wasn't sure if this subject belongs here or there.
Now comes an article raising the possibility of the phone being blacklisted on the marketplace when MS detects the unlock has taken place:

Worse than a virus hit. I actually got it. It changed my host file by adding a couple localhost redirects... Every time I clicked on a Google seach result, it would redirect me to some crappy excuse of a search engine. Relatively easy to fix though.
no virus hit and havent encountered the redirect problem... am wondering the same with the blacklist issue but i guess it will be a wait and see as with most unlock/jailbreak issues...

While MS might know if you unlock your phone to sideload apps I don't think they'll take the step of banning a user completely from the marketplace. Doing so would backfire because there is no way this user is ever going to pay for an app; he'll be forced to look for cracked ones, not something MS would want.
Also from this message, it doesn't seem they are taking this sideloading business too seriously, which is good. Now XDA, please bring on some goodies. I need a File Explorer and a Media Player like free version of old Core Player

i THINK THAT WOULD DEPEND ON JUST HOW MANY PEOPLE UNLOCK THEIR PHONES... KILLING A FEW THOUSAND TO SEND A MESSAGE MIGHT JUST BE WHAT MS DOES..

Sorting Contacts by last name?

I am coming from an iphone 3g, the atrix is my first android phone, Is there a way to sort contacts by last name. From what i was reading , sort by last name is possible with 2.2, but i cant seem to do it, does motoblur not allow it?

Wow, thanks for bringing this up. Same problem here too, even the geeks at the AT&T store couldn't find a way to sort by last name. I still have the blur launcher.
This is VERY annoying. Is there a different contact manager we will need to use?
Never used motoblur but when looking at your contacts if you hit the menu button do you have any options to change how they are displayed?
Dell Streak powered by Streakdroid 1.7.1 v6
Sorty by last name was added in 2.2 sometime, perhaps after the build on the atrix.
Unfortunate as I also prefer sort by last name.
It's not in Contacts>Menu>More>Display Options?

No it is not. Under the More menu lists "Share name cards" and "Import/Export" only!
It is hard for me to believe that the entire Google & Dev team forgot to code in this feature in Android or Motorola didn't add it.
Thats been standard on most phones for years.
Makes you wonder what other features they forgot to add...
Wow, Motorola is just racking up the stupidity arguments. I just found this thread because, I, as well am so use to sorting my contacts by last name and of course in addition to a signed bootloader the Atrix also has no way to do this. I honestly can't believe Motorola would over look something so damn basic. They really need to get their act together when it comes to software.....
I am coming from a Tilt2 and used to sort by "file as". I have contacts that I want to organize by company name; any clue how to do this?

[Q] Multiple users accounts

Hi,
is it possible to have more than one google account on one Nexus7 device?
(this thread should be at Nexus7 Q&A)
Moved to Nexus 7 Q&A.
EDIT: Never mind, I was wrong, you get the option of choosing which account to use as the person below me has said.
I have a second Google account on my Desire Hd.
Its not much of an issue, when you are using google apps eg. YouTube, G+, Gmail you get a choice of which account you want to use and you can logout and choose the other whenever you want.
Syncing is not a problem either, whichever account you pick when you make changes they will be saved to only that account.
My YouTube widget changes depending on which account i am using when i exit the YouTube app.
Hope this helps

I use multiple Google accts on my phone (ICS/CM9). Sync'ing, etc works just fine. Whenever it gets to a point where you have to choose the account you want something under, it prompts you. The issue/solution for me for Facebook (for my wife & I) will likely be Friendcaster (which allows multiple accts).
I was thinking more about choosing an user after waking-up the tablet. Just like windows has. One for me, other for my wife.
The perfect solution would be face to unlock, but I don't think it would be avaliable soon.
Tablets feel like windows 98 all over again. I guess this is because of their phone roots (the thought being one user owns a phone). But with tablets, many want to share.
As your example of you and your wife. Or even security. I'm at my bro's and my nephew wants to play with my tablet, and he's pretty responsible, but he could actually start reading/deleting my email, uninstall apps, buy apps via google market. Btw, I expressly choose never to save anything to google wallet, I've only made a few purchases and have been careful of this, but last thing I bought, my credit card info was all ready to go. Sigh.
But yes not only would I like multi-users I would like to make others have limited functionality, as in they can't install/uninstall apps etc. Even a simple thing like letting my nephew play a game I was in the middle of playing, well he cleared all the stages so I have to remember which stage I was on each time I launch it, or clear them all and start over.
But I suspect it'll be this way for a long time.

Wow... I wasn't aware of that app, either. This is from one of the reviews, though:
Log out does not really work like Windows where you log out and then select another user but rather you have to go into the App and say SWITCH user. Once you do SWITCH user, you actually have to wait for the device to reboot into the other user so it is not running multiple instances

I'd think that if the dev on this app could get help from or work with the devs on the popular launchers, better integration would ensue... Like the review said, though... great start...
I've actually installed this app and ran it. You do have to reboot whenever you "switch" which for me isn't a big deal. I haven't had a chance to mess with it too much yet but it looks like the closest option to running multiple accts. From what I can tell you can add a pic for each profile and u can choose which acct to load which is nice, but the lite version only allows 2 profiles, you have to buy a key for more.
1 caution though, it may mess things up a bit with the play store. I tried buying a key after switching back to my profile, and I got an error saying my order could not be processed try again. I'm going to give it some time & try again in a few hours & see what happens.
Using it now too. Seems pretty cool. Seeing as EVERYONE loves wanting to see your phone. LoL!! There is an experimental switch feature that swtiches without rebooting, but I'm not too sure that's working just yet. LoL!!
I'll give this a try too. It may seem worth it.
And a question for the OP. Is that your comment I seen in the store? About the wife and kids? LoL!! =.P
I noticed that switching to a different profile doesn't retain apps between users. Say for instance on the admin profile (mine), I have Plex purchased and installed. On the newly created profile with a different account, it doesn't show up in the apps page (which makes sense because it's a different account). This could become a problem for those with the 8gb model (like myself) where you might have duplicate apps installed based on the user(s) which would take up more space. I think for the sake of saving space, it may be wise for me to install only maintenance/tool type apps on the admin profile for tablet management, then, anything else (games, productivity etc) can be tied to the newly created profile so that I'm not duplicating installed apps.
Can anyone that has done this estimate how much space an extra profile consumes? My 8 GB nexus 7 stock out of the box has ~5.75 GB available. Will adding a second profile consume another ~2 GB plus any additional apps, data, etc? I'm hoping that some of that 2 GB is due to medium format, and other reserved space...

tween girl - what security and protection steps are recommended

Nexus 7 2012, 4.4.4
Bought it for my 10 year old girl. I am not paranoid, but want to keep her and the device safe. Looking for recommendations on app, settings, on how to find the device if lost, and how to keep her and the device safe.
1) losing the device
++ I installed the android stock app Device Manager (think that is the name) and also Lookout. They both provide a siren to help find the phone and a gps locator map. but obviously this must only work if the device is wi-fi connected and has battery?
++ lock the screen with password after 2 minutes.
++ owners contact infor (cell phone numbers) on lock screen
-- anything comments or advice?
2) virus protection
++ installed Lookout.
3) Safe surfing
++ nothing installed
4) parental controls
++ nothing installed
Maybe try this? Looks like it does more than one thing.

Thse are a bit too baby for a 10 year old. Maybe I need to reask my question. Looking mostly for common sense ways to find the tablet when it gets lost and how to help people get it back to you. I am not big on parental controls. But have an open mind.

Try AVG, if I'm not mistaken it can also locate a device, I am sure that it emails you immediately to notify you if the Sim has been changed.
EDIT: there are many apps that will email you a photo of whoever fails to unlock the device, I'm sorry I cannot provide links or names but I have tried a few, they work. You can google this one.

What about an app that tells you what happens have been used at what times? My girl is supposed to read for 30 minutes every day. Now she wants to read in her room on the tablet. I want to srr her app history.

Really if this is an issue, turn off Internet access and let her read ebooks already downloaded. 10yo if you can't trust, make her read where you can monitor. Still no trust, no Internet device, it its simple.

If your daughter goes to school, then there is a huge chance there is some kid at school that can flash her device. A few points to think about.
1) If your installing these apps with out her knowledge, you can't get mad at her if she has someone flash it.
2) If your installing these apps with out her knowledge and she finds out, you've now broken her trust of you. As a previous rebellious teen girl this is a big mistake, something she will not forget anytime soon.
3) My daughter has to read daily as well. What I do is read the same book as her. We make it fun. While I make dinner we discuss the book. If I find she hasn't read it yet today, I suggest she go do that while I make dinner.
We don't use technology as a punishment or reward in our house, it's just part of life. My daughter (an yours probably too) can just go to a friends house and surf/play/whatever with out my knowledge. It's more important that my daughter trust me and know that I trust her.
