Please excuse my ignorance, but I am completely new to Android.
I've just bought the wife a new HTC Wildfire from Tesco. I now need to do two things: -
Add Thai fonts
Unlock it from the tesco networkI've downloaded the Anysoft keyboard from the Android market but it doesn't work properly bcse the Thai fonts are not present on the handset. It appears that I need root access to the handset to install them.
I also need to unlock the phone so that wifey can use her Thai sim card in the handset when she is in Thailand.
I've heard of an app called unrEVOked3 - would this enable me to do both of the above and is it simple and easy enough to use?
If I can use unrEVOked3, can I ever reset the handset back to it's original condition if it needs to be returned to Tesco for any reason, or does the use of the software permanently chnage the phone and completely invalidate my guarantee?
I am not sure about unlock the phone but for installing Thai fonts, yes, you have to root it and it is quite easy with unrevoked3.
I think it is possible to backup the android and reflash it back to original condition.

I've got hold of an old c500 from a mate so I don't have to take my XDA IIs out with me all the time. I've tried to unlock the phone but to no avail. I was wondering if flashing the ROM to WM5 would remove all the crap that Orange has put on there and unlock it to allow me to use my O2 SIM.
If you had searched, you would know...
Do a search.
If you don't find it, list your search criteria and I will tell you..
If I use the same search critera and DO find someting.. ..well, then you suck at searchng?
Right, I'm mid-way through SIM unlocking my C500. I've application unlocked it and need to install a .cab file to allow the sim unlock, however, now that I have application unlocked it, it will only register as a guest on my PC through active sync meaning that I can not browse files and copy the .cab file over.
Help!
Strange
Then you are in a very peculiar situation.
I can browse the contents of both my XDA II and XDA Exec while connected as "Guest".
Actually, it's the only thing I can do as guest..
How ever, if your guest mode is different from the rest of us, why not use IR, Bluetooth or a SD card reader to copy your app?
In worst case, perhaps mail it to yourself and install it?
Or upload to an FTP, and then download and install?
Having now followed your advice and uploaded, then downloaded the .cab it will not install citing lack of permissions as the cause, indicating to me that the device has not been application unlocked. I did it using the HTC Unlock programme from SPV Services. I have also tried unlocking via the offical Orange system but the Action Register will not run and keeps asking me to reconnect the device.
I think we need to clarify some terms here..
What exactly do you mean by "Application unlocked" ?
using an app to unlock the phone, or removing some lock preventing you from running apps?
And by "Lack of permission", was ever a certificate or "signed app" mentioned?
Application unlock meaning that I should have nothing stopping me running any apps I want nor should any of the phone's features be barred to me.
I don't know but I assume that's what I mean. All FAQs and tutorials about SIM unlocking the c500 talk about having to have it Application unlocked first.
I was wondering if that could be done?
This model was never released in Israel so there isn't a rom of it I can just download and install onto my phone ( not that I could even find other samsung model phone roms I could download ...)
I'm not interested in changing the entire interface of the phone or anything like that, but just being able to read (not even write, just read) some of the sms messages people send me here (letters show up as boxes),
I'm familiar with bitpim and have the data cable which allows me access to the file structure system of the phone otherwise not accessible.
Can anyone help?
Thanks in advance,
Amir
You are in the wrong forum.
Not only is this not an HTC device, it isn't even windows mobile based.
It may not be possible to put Hebrew or any other font on this phone since it appears to use a proprietary OS which probably uses its own format for fonts.
In the Android World we call it Rooting... want to "Root" or whatever you people call it here on the other side of the Mobile World, HTC Juno/T-Mobile Shadow. Want to unlock/Root/JailBreak... help... links... search doesn't help me. Also, WindowsMobile 6.5 ROM along with it? Thanks. =)
Well, in order to flash a new ROM, you will have to either use JumpSPL...which is included with most ROM releases, or flash the Shadow USPL, which is permanent. While its not rooting in the Android sense, it does indeed allow your device to be open in order to flash a new ROM. In order to install programs or hacks onto your Shadow, just copy them to your phone or a storage card and install like normal. Most Shadows are not application locked, but in the case that yours is, just search for and download SDA unlocker and run it with your Shadow connected via USB.
Ok guys, I see a lot of people in here debranding the phones but dont know what they are talking about.
1: All the methods you have listed will not debrand a Orange UK handset, because the files that you should replace don't exist (all the files will start with 'ICON'). So far no one seems to have worked this out or has tried to find a workaround.
2: According to the SE rep I spoke with if you debrand your phone it may cause serious issues when Sony do send down updates to the device, I was told that debranded phones may to be able to be reflashed and may corrupt. When I asked why he said it had something to do with a new version of Android being made available.
I just thought I should let you guys know, and if anyone can try debrand a Orange handset (I will risk it)
Regards
UHAX
1. The Orange files are there.
2. Funnily enough the files used to debrand are from Sony Ericsson and we use SEUS which is also their tool.
Can you please clarify on point 1
Because I have one of these phones and I can tell you, they are not anywhere on my system.
I have tested this Both under XP and Windows 7
The DB directory only displays a number of small files all starting with 'ICON'
Did you update before looking for the files?
Did you use the new method with PC Companion?
There are no updates for the phone
Yes I have Tried both methods.
I am 100% sure.
And I make sure I just searched both systems, the files do not exist.
Any ideas?
Without updating you won't have the files.
Well any one care to make up a package for me, that way I can try force it to use them.
Who is game?
In order to get the files, you can reinstall your current firmware with SEUS, this will make it download the files to your db folder, and you're good to go. Worked for me.

As I have said
There are no updates available.
For the SEUS or SEPC
I have tried both methods.
Thats why I was wanting someone to post all the files!!!!!!!!!!!
you just have to use the REPAIR option. then they'll be downloaded.
No the repair function does not work
Look guys what part of this do you not under stand
THERE ARE NO FILES TO BE DOWNLOADED, the firmware on the Orange handset is different, there are no updates, you cannot repair them.
It does not work, for any of the Orange handsets
Why can you people not grasp this very simple concept, I need all the files to be posted so I can try force the handset to accept them.

Click to collapse
Prove that it doesn't work because I can prove it works.
So you get no option to re-install the software on your phone after it tells you there are no updates available? The reason people can't grasp it is because your the only one that seems to be having a problem using the update service.
Well - if you do not get an Repair option using PC Companion - then you can not de-brand. Even IF you get the files they will STILL report as being the SAME version.
And that version REQUIRES you have a REPAIR option.
So NO REPAIR option = NO DEBRANDING!
So getting the files will NOT HELP YOU.
@uhax
Dude, watch your tone this is not the customer support hotline.

Well I debranded mine and its working beautifuly!
Now the unlocking is another thing...
Well I can assure you it does not work with the Orange handset from the UK
I have now tested it with the White and Black Models and both have the same issue.
When you try to use the repair function it fails and returns an error, when i check the directory its just full of small files all starting with ICON.
It seems like the Orange handset are using a different firmware set, this firmware cannot be downloaded from Sony using there applications, so my request is that someone post all the needed files to do the flash, ie everything in the DB directory.
Download files with SEUS.
Uhax this does work on UK supplied Orange handsets, it worked on mine perfectly. Download SEUS, connect the phone and check for update, it will say there is no update but will give you the option to reinstall the current firmware, do that and it will download the files.
I have a dual boot hd2 that I purchased today and I purchased the unlock code for it. If I boot it into w6.5 it does not give me the option to unlock when I boot into android it gives me the option but tells me it is the wrong code.... Please help
Do I have to revert the phone back to factory? If so how I bought the phone with android because it was already done
Is it a t-mobile hd2 that your trying to use on ATT? If it is then simply take out the t-mobile card n place the ATT card in I believe. Then it'll ask u for a code I think.
yes it should but it doesn't... I have been talking to a few people that know more about hacking and I found out that some people think the phone will be faster in android if you strip windows down to the bear essentials and apparently that was removed. I think I will have to find someone to re flash the phone. although I was playing with the phone and found the imei# for the android phone which was a htc desire does anyone think if I payed for the unlock code for that phone it would work?
I guess there aren't any hackers in this forum... No help for any phone I've posted on
I had the exact same issue. The WM 6.5 rom I had didn't have a check to detect locked sim, so I booted into android (Mattc 1.7 at the time I believe) with att sim and android prompted for code and I entered the one tmobile gave me and it unlocked it.
I would say make sure you gave the people correct IMEI and that the code is correct, because doing it this way does work.
I tried that and it didn't work it told me it was the wrong code it does give me the right imei# for the phone the software came off of but not sure if that would unlock it because windows is still the controlling os isn't it?
you shouldnt have bought the phone with android on it. that is not really good for the developers either. your best bet as you probably do not know what the previous person did to it, is to wipe the phone completely (use search on how to task29 the phone), and reflash windows ROM and radio. then place the android files on the SD card as instructed and your done.
do not ask how to do all this, and hope for someone to write out a big long how to.
go look it up. thats what search is for.
i myself have a AT&T sim card now and would like to use it on the phone but i bought it from tmobile and now 20.00 less will hope to use the sim card on this phone. But when i put the card in no code or anything is asked of me with the hd2.. can some one help me please.
Use File Explorer in WinMo, navigate to the /Windows folder, make sure "show hidden files" is enabled, and tap the file called SIMlock (or something else very similarly named). It should then prompt you for the SIM unlock code, regardless of whether there's a SIM in there or not. If that file is missing or doesn't work, flash back to a stock ROM.
