Ok guys, I see a lot of people in here debranding the phones but dont know what they are talking about.
1: All the methods you have listed will not debrand a Orange UK handset, because the files that you should replace don't exist (all the files will start with 'ICON'). So far no one seems to have worked this out or has tried to find a workaround.
2: According to the SE rep I spoke with if you debrand your phone it may cause serious issues when Sony do send down updates to the device, I was told that debranded phones may to be able to be reflashed and may corrupt. When I asked why he said it had something to do with a new version of Android being made available.
I just thought I should let you guys know, and if anyone can try debrand a Orange handset (I will risk it)
Regards
UHAX
1. The Orange files are there.
2. Funnily enough the files used to debrand are from Sony Ericsson and we use SEUS which is also their tool.
Can you please clarify on point 1
Because I have one of these phones and I can tell you, they are not anywhere on my system.
I have tested this Both under XP and Windows 7
The DB directory only displays a number of small files all starting with 'ICON'
Did you update before looking for the files?
Did you use the new method with PC Companion?
There are no updates for the phone
Yes I have Tried both methods.
I am 100% sure.
And I make sure I just searched both systems, the files do not exist.
Any ideas?
Without updating you won't have the files.
Well any one care to make up a package for me, that way I can try force it to use them.
Who is game?
In order to get the files, you can reinstall your current firmware with SEUS, this will make it download the files to your db folder, and you're good to go. Worked for me.
Sent from my X10i using the XDA mobile application powered by Tapatalk
As I have said
There are no updates available.
For the SEUS or SEPC
I have tried both methods.
Thats why I was wanting someone to post all the files!!!!!!!!!!!
you just have to use the REPAIR option. then they'll be downloaded.
No the repair function does not work
Look guys what part of this do you not under stand
THERE ARE NO FILES TO BE DOWNLOADED, the firmware on the Orange handset is different, there are no updates, you cannot repair them.
It does not work, for any of the Orange handsets
Why can you people not grasp this very simple concept, I need all the files to be posted so I can try force the handset to accept them.

Prove that it doesn't work because I can prove it works.
So you get no option to re-install the software on your phone after it tells you there are no updates available? The reason people can't grasp it is because your the only one that seems to be having a problem using the update service.
Well - if you do not get an Repair option using PC Companion - then you can not de-brand. Even IF you get the files they will STILL report as being the SAME version.
And that version REQUIRES you have a REPAIR option.
So NO REPAIR option = NO DEBRANDING!
So getting the files will NOT HELP YOU.
@uhax
Dude, watch your tone this is not the customer support hotline.
Sent from my X10i using the XDA mobile application powered by Tapatalk
Well I debranded mine and its working beautifuly!
Now the unlocking is another thing...
Well I can assure you it does not work with the Orange handset from the UK
I have now tested it with the White and Black Models and both have the same issue.
When you try to use the repair function it fails and returns an error, when i check the directory its just full of small files all starting with ICON.
It seems like the Orange handset are using a different firmware set, this firmware cannot be downloaded from Sony using there applications, so my request is that someone post all the needed files to do the flash, ie everything in the DB directory.
Download files with SEUS.
Uhax this does work on UK supplied Orange handsets, it worked on mine perfectly. Download SEUS, connect the phone and check for update, it will say there is no update but will give you the option to reinstall the current firmware, do that and it will download the files.

Hi guys,
First of all, I'm really new to this(learning all the time!) as I just got my O2 mini 2days ago from ebay.
I have a problem whereby my phone doesn't have smart dial function. I've spent hours reading the threads and trying but to no avail.
Can anyone kind ppl out there help me pls?
FYI, under "device information/version/ExtROM version" section is BLANK. Is this normal?
Really appreciate anyone that can help me out. Thanks a lot!
You can download and install the cab file attached.
Thx Zerimar!!!
But I toy around more with my phone I realise that my phone doesn't even have the ExtROM installed at all! That's main culprit for those missing functions. I don't even have MMS function installed
Can you kindly share with me a complete ExtROM that has all the preloaded softwares?
And also can you give me so simple instructions on how to put back the ExtROM in the phone (I'm really new...)
Again, really appreciate your help!!! Thx man....
I suggest that you keep your Mini the way it is (with BigStorage ROM). The advantages are;
1. You can choose which customization software from O2 to install.
2. 27MB is gained for installing 3rd party software, ie. Navigationi softare, Destktop enhancements, etc.
Before you upgraded your Mini, did you keep a backup of the original ROM and/or the Extended ROM? If you have a backup of your Extended ROM then all you have to do is to copy the .CAB files you want to the SD card, main memory, or storage and to install the .CAB files just click on them from where it was copied to.
If you don't have your Extended ROM backup, then I suggest you go to this forums ftp or wiki and download what you need. I don't have the complete Extended ROM .CAB files since I only keep what I like/need. Secondly, my unit is a generic since here in Switzerland we can buy the units without any contract, or when we renew our contract, we can get a new phone but usually it is a generic model. Out of the 3 providers here, only Orange SIM locks and makes customization to the units.
If still you prefer to put your Mini back to its original form, then all you have to do is to flash your Mini with your ROM backup (if you have it), otherwise download from the ftp any of the latest ROMs available.
Very good advice here.... makes me understand more now.
Ok, I agree with you to keep it's current status now.
I did not upgrade my mini, I bought it new from ebay, thus there is no backup ROM or ExtROM available.
I'm not able to use this forum's ftp. This is how I try, I paste below link in IE,
ftp://xda:[email protected]/Magician
user:xda
paswd:xda
I'm denied access. Any idea on this?
Thx...
by the way, Switzerland is really a nice & beautiful country... Love it!
In your first post you mentioned that "device information/version/ExtROM version" section is BLANK, this somehow indicates that the Mini is configured with BS.
Check using File Explorer or via Active Sync. If you see a folder called Storage from My Device via File Explorer, or My Pocket PC via Active Sync then it's configured with BS. The other way to find out is to do a hard reset by pressing (and keep pressed) the Camera+Power button while pressing the reset switch. Note: This will eventually erase all your data. Be sue to backup first. If you did a hard reset, then at some point in time you will see that something is being installed automatically, meaning no BS.

As for downloading files from the ftp, you should be logged in. The link you attached works perfectly for me. You could also use a ftp client software like CuteFtp.
ps. yep, CH is a nice country but quite expensive. If my memory serves me right, Zurich is the 3rd most expensive city in the world. I guess the only things cheaper here are the Swiss watches, Swiss knives, Swiss cheese, and Swiss chocolates (yummie)
Hey... it's working now! Thx to you, hehehe....
So far so good after I manage to pull out the ExtROM using cuteFTP. Now in experimental mode to try out different stuffs.... getting more interesting.
If I do encounter any problem, I'll post again and hope you can help me once more
I miss the Swiss chocs.... yummy (especially white ones)... hopefully I can go there again soon. Btw, love the Swiss army too!
You're most welcome. Whenever you need help, continue posting on this thread or pm me.
Edit: Phone flashed nicely. Did'nt want to make another post so that this would'nt be bumped to the top.

Hello everyone!
Thanks to all the users and admins for this great forum. I've found a lot of useful tips here, like getting the Scandinavian letters to work, and I look forward to be a part of this community.
I've been using PDA's for quite a while but this is the first combined PDA/phone (unless you count smartphones, and a brief encouter with the Nokia 7710 which I hated )
My list of PDA's goes something like this: Palm M100, Palm 3C - a long pause without a PDA - got a M100 again - IPAQ 3850 - Pocket Loox 710 - XDA Exec
My list of phones would be about this: Nokia NMT 101, Nokia 1611, - Nokia 6110 - Nokia 7110 - Ericsson T65 - SE T68i - trial user for a nokia 7710 with TV - Motorola MPX220 - XDA Exec. Had some other phones too, but used them for a short while or bought them as spares.
I recently bought a used XDA Exec, the rom is 1.13.48 WWE which is ancient. The Exec seems very unresponsive and slow compared to any PDA I owned earlier also it seems prone to crash. I have some warranty left, so I'd prefer to keep an O2 ROM since then I'd have less to explain if I need to get this thing serviced.
I figured my best choise would be the "Xda_Exec_Upgrade_v1.30.162.exe" with a corporate install, since I'd rather be without the clutter as I wont use any O2 services.
A few questions:
1) My boot loader says "serial v1. 00" Should I upgrade it to 1.01? Any performace imrovements or less chance of bricking if I update it?
2) I downloaded the ROM from the O2 page, although I'm not in the UK nor do I have a O2 phone number. Is it safe for me two install the firmware or will I get a locked phone or country errors (got the fix for that just incase)?

1) For new ROM upgrade, bootloader v1.00 is good enough. Unless you have nothing better to do, you can play with v1.01
2) Those ROM you are talking about are grandfathers' time ROM. If you dare, try some of the ROMs cook by our fellow guys here.

In a ROM, besides the upgrading tools, the actual software is in 3 files
1. nk.nbf (M$ Part)
2. ms_.nbf (Extended ROM, sevice providers software), do not change this, just ignore by moving to another directory.
3. radio_.nbf (UMTS/3G/GSM part)
Steps,
1. Ensure your normal mode cable connected (not InfraRed) activesync works.
2. Backup you current Applications, Contacts with Outlook and whatever that is important to you!
3. You need to run/copy (exe type) or extract (zip/rar type). You will see a lot of files including the above 3 files.
4. You can upgrade all 3 or individually by moving any of the unwanted 3 files to another directory.
5. Set device to bootloader mode.
6. Use MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe (not ROMUpgradeUt.exe) to avoid country errors. Run it and just wait.
Splash screen (O2, Imate, Dopod, Qtek Logos) maybe the wrong one, but if you can live with it, it is ok. If you cannot, the is tools in this forum, use the search tool.
SIM locked is different thingy all together, have never tried unlocked tools. Use the search tool here for unlock software.
Good Luck
Thanks CWKJ for your feedback!
About the ROM, I know the one I'm thinking to upgrade to is almost a year old but as I said its mainly so that I don't get any warranty issues. I'm thinking that if I have to return the phone and it boots to a QTEK-splash screen then I would have a lot of explaining to do. The current ROM is just so slow that I can't live with it.
Once the warranty is over I'll gladly experiment some more. Especially if there are some nice crossbow components or wireless improvements.

Thanks for writing those steps to me. I did search thoroughly, and found many guides but yours is the most easy to follow. I'm having some problems with activesync on my laptop (although it works fine through bluetooth) so I guess I'll try it on my desktop, which probably is smarter anyway so that the computer does'nt go into standby or hibernate in the midst of the update
Edit: My phone is unlocked, I was just worried if the software update would lock it for me. But I guess its silly to worry in advance.
Notebook has battery and standby mode can be switch off. In case of power failure (it will be very unlucky if it happens), the upgrading still goes on. The same (continue upgrade with battery) will not happen for Desktop. LOL...
Make sure is cable connected USB activesync.
One more point to note, in Bootloader mode, it is connected, but you will not see the activesync in operation!
You can change the screen (but software version can be checked), you can flash back the old software.
You can use the free tools here to unlocked again.
Objective :
Create an Update Utility based on the Windows Update in Official ROMs
Description :
My idea is to create a ROM that can be updated without the need of RUU we use now. For example, you have Core2.0n version of my ROM and since you installed it, I created another version, for example Core3. In order to update you'd normally have to download the latest ROM to your PC and re-flash your HTC Wizard.
I want to allow you to go online directly from your Wizard and check for new version. If new version found, then automatically download and flash. All you'd need is an Internet connection.
Limits/Problems :
There are some problems about this. This is where I need help.
Usually the PPC turns OFF and then the RUU writes the ROM. With the way I want it, the ROM must be written while the device is ON...and then it would do a Hard Reset in order to complete the Update.
I don't know yet if this is possible, but I am willing to try.
What I need :
People with Assembler knowledge
People with good PPC knowledge and understanding
Huge amount of luck
I remember someone here already tried to restore the Windows Update components. Unfortunately I can't remember who and if he succeeded or not.
I'll search for his thread and post any update.
The ORIGINAL thread is located HERE. Please feel free to join the development crew.
The idea looks cool, it will allow us to redistribute updates and fixes to our roms more easy
But we have to figure out how the windows update feature is working, and how it manages to flash the downloaded update
I think that it downloads the updates to the storage card (in most cases there is not enough space in storage to store whole rom image) and then instructs the boot loader to flash the file from the card (this way it will be logical)
Also that way will be similar for all devices not just the wizard.
So the rom cookers can personalize windows update settings to update their roms trough it (of course separetely for every device)

I think we'll try to do that. However I doubt that Microsoft intended to use a Storage Card for update. This makes me curious on what method they would have used.
Other problem would be error checking...We must know for certain the OS is not corrupted before attempting the update.
Maybe I didn't said it...but I will say it now. My intention is only to flash through the air an OS, that means no other components, like SPL, IPL , radio or SplashScreens will be altered by the Update so no chance of bricking the device plus making the whole process easier to accomplish.
Other idea is to study the way that security programs (anti theft) use they're software so that the data is included in the rom with a simple install.(they say the program will be there even after a hard reset...though i didn't tried any)
I am sad to notice so little enthusiasm from people around here.
This would affect chefs more than regular people but still.
Back to business...
Questions :
Is it possible to flash directly the ROM with the PDA turned on ?
If so, how can we access the ROM directly ?
How to use .pkg ? Can we make use of them ?
Considering the Update deals only with relative minor changes, this means we can leave the XIP out. We can think of new Builds as major upgrades and require the use of normal flash. The big problem..and unfortunately the thing I know less about it's managing to insert the new update in a very "raw" manner.
I am firmly convinced that few people here posses the knowledge to do this.
Please come in front and let's make this thing happen.
I could try to reverse engineer the default windows update but it would take a great deal of time and I would probably get stuck without some help.
P.S. I managed to find the thread I was talking about before. It's located here.
I think is a great idea my friend. However there are many things to think before trying to do it. First of all to flash the new files you shall need to make a pdoc write but i have now idea how can be made via the device itself.
Where are the "patches" being stored before they are updated?
May be the process of hard reset shold be manual. This are only some toughts.
i would help u as much as i can...
great idea !
the update can be on the storage card and one can put the device into
bootloader/update mode by running this little program in the windows dir
to switch it to the 3 color screen.
With this WM5torage program i can acces the romchip itself and write it.
not sure wether it messes up things.
not sure if this will delete contents of the storagecard itself...
another thought... why not make the updatepackage and let windowsupdate install it for you ?
I think the best way to procede is to find out how to make a pkg file (faria seems to know) and then to sniff what the windows update app does when connecting to the MS server and see if we can emulate that on a test server.

All your ideas are great. But this was exactly what i had in mind. It seems the easiest way....only so little time right now. So...where`s Faria ?
P.S. Sorry for late reply...i thought ppl don`t care and i didn`t checked the thread
Does somebody of you have such a pkg file?
As I understand it right, this file will be delivered by windows update to the client?
I never got an Update via Windows Update... Everytime I try, there are no updates available ^^
Sniffing the Windows Update would be easy, I think. I could bet that all this stuff is done via a Webservice. That's the I would do it
Has anyone ever updated anything using that Windows Update? It's highly unlikely it will download a whole new ROM, maybe just some cabs which won't touch the ROM altogether, just mess around in registry.
And who needs to keep the device on while updating if you'd make a hard reset afterwards?
It can even be done now...
any back-up program
a cook who's willing to release ROMS on some stable host (NOT rapidshare where address changes)
a diff utility to download only the parts of the ROM that changed
A small app which writes XXXXIMG.BIN to storage card and enters bootloader.
Much harder task is to get rid of ROMs altogether and take control of the only advantage they give: XIP. I mean, why don't use a tool to convert the new apps to XIP format making them a part of the ROM?
@anichillus
I can provide u with the package but it will take some time..u see i have WM6 Emulator..but cant make it to use Internet Connection of my PC..so the Update manager starts but doesent download (no connectivity)..will see what i can do
i got the internet working..but when i click update..it doesent give any packages..what now
My Mini is my first smartphone, and I have now discovered that O2 have put their own ROM on it, removing features like the WIFI Router.
I see on the HTC web site that there are now three software updates for this device. My question is will these install on my O2 modified ROM (or do I need them)?
Also, can I installed Office Mobile 2010 on it?
Technically you can install any HD Mini ROM on your device but practically it is difficult at present. HTC and O2 both have software locks on their systems, so an O2 serial number won't allow you to download a generic ROM from the HTC site and if you can obtain one the device won't allow you to install it.
There are ways around this but the folk who make this possible haven't found an easy method yet. I'd suggest staying with what you have got, but keep checking back in the ROM Development part of this forum. As a 'novice' you should not take any risks yet!
Thanks for your reply. That deals with replacing the ROM, but how about the bug fix downloads on the HTC site. Will these apply to an O2 ROM?
The 'bug fix' downloads are applicable to all devices and can be downloaded without a serial number.
Once downloaded the patch file must be copied to the mobile device and then located using 'File Explorer' ; once located, tap the file name to run the installation.
These updates are non-destructive to your existing data.

I have exactly same problem. What the solutions may found? :||| I need updates.
Some people say that to reset phone and after that on HD2 updates will be work. How u think it will be work? And when I will reset my phone, it meand that I will lost all my phone data? or it possible with some ways to save a data and when make an phone reset.
Please if u have any ideas respond me about my questions. Have u tried phone reset method?
Hi
Me too.
Got this damn error code: 80180089 when tried to updae my HD2. It says that it cannot backup my phone due to a registry change. There should be a way to update without having to backup first.
Same Problem with my HD2. I do not want a damn backup. If something goes wrong i would simply reinstall everything. That is annoying. I Hope there will be a solution comming up. :-/
hi
in the process of updating - registry error, error code: 80180089 on my HD2
but works fine. yet...
I think we need registry data of original wp7 to install update, because our cracked windows registry is demaged or not full. have someone tried to reset phone and install update on wp7?
do any of you actually read the threads? dont update tot he new version
i have read and why don't update a new version? it seems that problem in registry and some users who updated their phones it works fine, not blocking and chevron tool for deploying xap files still exists. i think its not harmful for our cracked hd2 to have an updates.
tried to update my hd2, too and got the same error. but no problems appeared... so i guess i just wait until someone finds a solution for this
Error on update WP7/HD2
Same error here, but works normaly after restart. It just can't back it up because of registry settings....

The update doesn't work for anyone with HD2s... it was known from beginning that automatic updates would not work with HD2... we have a ported wp7 on our devices.
Tried a reset and the update still did not work. Same registry error. Not surprised just want to try and share the info.
First I got the error code 801812C1 but after two retries that went through. The registry error code 80180089 can’t be bypassed.
Manual injection of CAB files in the future I guess. Yes I know custom ROM on a unsupported phone.
Don't kill the messenger. I'm just sharing info here.
Used XP SP3 with newest zune software.
Looks like some other guys with samsung omnia7 have this issue with the update and microsoft is working on it. I guess that will be solved in a few days

Do you think we will be able to update our HD2s then?
I don't think so, but I like surprises
Probably will not work on the HD2 since its most likely looking for anything funny in the registry. Pick your choice, not the right hardware, hacked OS, chevron, side load apps, custom settings. Unless if people that have virgin phones and still get the same errors then anything is possible. They might have to allow future updates to have more variations or be more lenient on what its looking for before the patch gets installed. That’s my two cents anyway.
Phones: G1, ATT ARIA, HD2
In a microsoft thread, I read that the problem with samsung omnia 7 is about backing up the phone. The same as HD2. So I think there might be some hopes for us
maybe the problem come from detected usb hardware driver that seem to be different from that in hd7.. i say this because when the hd2 display shown the icon of pc & hd2 , after the first reboot, a symbol no usb connection appear.
Its a pointless update, why bother...
Tried... but failed

No, I'm sure that was just telling us not to remove the USB connection ha ha. I just tried the update, same error code. Remaining hopeful that this is same problem as Omnia or whichever phone was mentioned before, but I have doubts and wont be too shocked if it has nothing to do with it and we cant update the OS this way. If this doesn't work someone will come up with something. Might just have to reflash with each major update. It wuld be annoying but its better than nothing ha ha.
Customized ROM from HD2 can't Update the OS! HD2 owners should wait until devs cook the update in their Roms! This update is pointless but actually Microsoft made this update to prepare your phone for the next update! (??LOL??) I know that you guys made the tweak in order to disguise the HD2 to HD7 but still... So be more patient or buy an official WP7 as i did!
