The * OFFICIAL* I received my Dell Venue Pro Thread. - Venue Pro General

Post here ONLY when you received you DVP phone. Please post pictures and leave a short review of the phone for the other members.
Thanks

If your Venue pro has already been delivered, can you please tell us if FedEx or UPS require your signature for delivery?
I hope some Jerk doesn't just leave it at my front door.
I know some carriers don't knock on the door (even if you're home). They'll just leave it at the door without knocking.

I just received mine now

Can someone that has just received their venue pro post a pic taken in low light?

My biggest concern about the DVP is that this phone is going to seem simply huge in hand and pocket.
Any opinions from those who have received theirs?

I am so mad at all of you.

Received mine this afternoon.
- The keyboard is fantastic. Good clickiness.
- The screen is bright and rich.
- The power button is very awkwardly placed (on the top). Makes single handed wake up challenging.
- No problems with headphone jack.
- Battery life isn't great. I've been using it pretty heavily for about 5 hours and I'm down to about half battery life. Definitely a 'charge every night' device.
- Easy to accidentally brush edge of screen when adjusting grip.
- I would prefer real buttons to capacitive touch buttons since it's really easy to for instance hit the search button with your thumb while taking a picture.
- There seems to be a glitch in the camera software that causes it to go all noisy and pixelated and streaked while adjusting exposure.
- Camera speed is SSLLLLOOOOOOOWWWW SHUTTTTTTEEERRR. Even in day light the exposure feels the need to set the shutter speed to about 1/10th of a second or longer. Getting a blur free photo in doors is all but impossible. If you open up the settings and manually set it up, all of the bugs seem to be fixed. So it looks like they need a patch for the auto settings (white balance, ISO and flash).
- Call quality is good.
- Headphone music quality seems to be noise free and clear.

Battery life was my biggest concern. I thought they had gone for 1500 MAh but on the pocketnow unboxing they say it's 1400. Still, we can only comment on it after a few days I guess.

The DVP with AT&T bands passed FCC muster. Looking at the photo of that box, I didn't see any branding whatsoever on the exterior. It just says Dell Venue Pro. That may mean an even more compelling reason that the DVP is coming to AT&T. One box, multiple carriers?

Can you elaborate on what settings you changed to get a decent picture? Thanks.

So, does that mean the DVP is unlocked? Or its just without the branding print on the phone.
Sent from my Liquid using XDA App

Congratulation to you!
you bought from t-mobile or at dell to unlock it?

when did you order it? how come you received it so quickly?
does it have t-mobile logo on it? is it unlocked?

That's a great question, add that to the list. Try other SIM's, see if they are locked at all

I got mines baby. 16GB have yet to power it on and get service should be doing that in the next few hours. After that my face will be faceplanted in the phone all night

The Dell Venue Pro will be going to ATT, saw it on pocketnow or engadget RSS hub that it was spotted going through the FCC with the ATT bands

DVP will not be going to ATT it needs FCC certicication so when the EURO or CANADIAN versions are released and there in the US they can use those bands. DVP exclusive american carrier is TMOBILE

Swapped my Focus for a Quantum

Call me crazy, but I went in to AT&T today and swapped them out. I was really interested in having a physical keyboard, and was much more impressed with the build quality of the LG.
If you have any questions about the device, feel free to ask and I'll answer what I can.
I know what you mean, I came from a Galaxy S Vibrant to the Quantum and the LG blows the Vibrant out of the water in terms of build quality, the Vibrant felt like a cheap toy in comparison.
Yea I'm really loving the keyboard. Probably the best one I've used on a mobile phone yet. Overall solid build with just the right amount of heft.

I didn't play with it as long as i wanted. But how is the keyboard, as far as a fast typer?. Example if you slide your finger across the keyboard. The asdfghjkl; how well does it pick up. Do it leave some letters out? Hope you can make out what im Trying to ask lol. I hope it has a better keyboard than lets say some issues with the epic 4g keyboard.

The only thing I can compare it to are portrait keyboards like a Treo - but it's good for a wider keyboard.
Here's a test by line for you:
Qwertyuiop
Asdfghjkl
Zxcvbnm

@#$%&()-\

No issues it seems! =D
it picks up letters without a problem, but i find the keys a little too spaced and the FN/caps buttons don't illuminate, shows up on screen...Still very satisfied with the Quantum, it's very fast in comparisson to my 8925, but i like the tilt keyboard better.
Thanks well the keyboard seems nice. I still got 5 more months before i decide on getting one.
Doug,
Given that you first used the Focus, how exactly does the Quantum's 3.5" TFT display stand up to the Focus's 4" Super AMOLED?
The Quantum stands out to me for some reason and one of the only real concerns I have is how much I'm giving up on the screen front if I go with the Quantum. Did you feel like you downgraded on the display when you booted up the Quantum?
Appreciate it!

Short answer, I do not feel like I downgraded.
Long answer - while the SAMOLED's look great, they have their shortcomings. They're 16-bit only, so there is banding (noticeable, given the size.) Their battery life isn't spectacular, but that could potentially be due to the size of the battery. Since the resolution isn't different, things tend to look sharper on the 3.5" - also, brightness is all personal preference. I thought the SAMOLED was way too bright for me.
Thanks for your time, Doug!
Does the battery life on the LG compare to the Focus? The Focus seems to have great battery life so I don't to give that up if I switch. I am mainly concerned with the sound quality of the Focus. Also, I am worried they won't be able to find a good SD Card for the phone. I think the Focus is the only phone that can combine two different types of memory (NAND and SD-card). I am not sure the OS can handle the speed differential without a software patch to slow down the reads/writes of the NAND so there is no difference between it and the SD-Card.
I saw in the MobileTechReview.com review that the screen sharpness is not that good. What are your thoughts?
Also, how is the sound quality of the phone? Is the speaker loud? Does the earpiece have enough volume?
Thanks in advance for your time and answers. There are not too many good reviews of the phone.
JS
Tested all 3 AT&T devices
After reading many of the reviews on the at&t WP7 offerings I thought what I wanted was the Samsung Focus.
Last week end I spent a couple of hours playing with the phones in the AT&T store. I currently have an htc Fuze and I wanted to stay with htc, but after playing with the Surround I was disappointed with the speakers. The heft was not worth it for the sound.
There are many in my family who are of the iPhone faithful and I have played with their devices many times and am able to type with their on screen keyboards without much trauma. The reviews said the Focus keyboard was as good as the iPhone. The Focus was fun to play with; I liked the 4 inch screen, but my fat fingers could not work the on screen keyboard. I spent quite a while trying to type in both portrait and landscape and I had difficulty getting even one word right. Unfortunately, Focus is out.
At first the LG was of no interest because of the small 3.5 inch screen; I didn't even realize it had a slide out keyboard. I wanted an AT&T WP7 device and the first two, after playing with them for a while, simply were not going to work. When I picked up the LG Quantum the build quality was obvious from the first touch. It felt perfect! To my surprise, I pushed on the case and out popped this very smooth hard keyboard. I was hoping that I could graduate from a hard keyboard after using my kid's iPhones, but after sliding out the LG keyboard I easily typed out a paragraph with no errors! It even has arrow keys which I was unable to find on the soft keyboard which made the much needed editing even more frustrating. I loved the feel of the LG!
After reading many online reviews and a couple of hours of utube videos, I ordered the LG Quantum for $80 from CellularDeals.com. I am now eagerly awaiting its delivery...
is there an app on the quantum that'll let you use the camera flash as a flashlight?
I saw a comment somewhere that indicated there was, but didn't specify if it was homebrew or not.

I now have my Quantum; the screen is the same size as an iPhone and not many iOS users complain about its size.
It seems that sometimes the screen is unresponsive, tap, tap, and nothing happens. I didn't notice it in the att store, but I do now. It may be my inexperience with a full capacitive touch screen, but, for example, if I touch the little arrow on the Home screen to access the app list, nothing happens. I have to swipe the screen to the left instead. The other arrow works intermittently also.
If anyone else has experience a similar unresponsive touch screen, please comment. I could be my unit needs to be replaced.
hey all! i thought id throw in my .02, as i won a quantum, and it arrived the other day! FWIW; i have worked for at&t for well over a decade, and couldn't begin to list the devices that i've had in my posession. however i can say that in 3 years i've rotated through an iphone3g, htc tilt 2, htc aria (which i still am using), samsung captivate, and now the lg. let me state for the record that i'm not a fan of lg phones. in fact i was rather disapointed to find that the quantum was the device i "won", as it was not my first (or second) choice if i were to purchase a wm7 device new. that opinion changed the moment i held, and fired, this beauty up. its nothing short of solid, well built, and highly functional.
this device is as responsive as any other capatacitive screen device ive owned yet...and maybe more so. typing on this device screen is accurate, and percise, even without the haptic feedback some devices offer. i do miss this option, but its not a deal breaker. the color is richer than i expected, considering its not the samoled screens some other devices offer. its size seemed to be a draw back at first glance, compaired to the smasung and htc, but has quickly become a non issue. the coating on the screen is oil phobic, like the iphone3gs, and cleans up quickly. summary: very impressed!
the keyboard...oh the keyboard...
ive never really liked having a physical keyboard. maybe ive become spoiled over the years; maybe since my first "smart phone" (htc sx66), nobody seemed to make one that felt solid. well, ive changed my tune. from the first solid "snap" of the board for service to my fingers, ive been a convert. this is not the crap lg keyboard they have loaded in their other devices. this one is clearly their way of stepping up to the plate, and showing that lg can, in fact, compete in the highly competitive smartphone device market. IMO, the addition of the function and caps buttons away from the main board body seem to make sense, and were a welcome addition. it seems mine dosent have the issue ive read here of a uneven back light. i was able to text in the darkness of my favoriate tavern last night without fuss. all the buttons lit evenly and just bright enough for my aging eyes to see without being over saturated, or needing to squint. granted, it darkenes a bit quick for my liking, im sure future wm7 updates will open more posibilities to adjust this. summary: quite impressed.
call clairity, speaker volume, bluetooth connectivity and battery life are all (mostly)exceeding my expacations. i say "mostly" because the battery seems to not quite make it a full day yet on a full charge. but to be fair, none of the devices i listed above ever really made it on a full charge from bell to bell. ive noticed its network strength is as strong as my aria is, and better than my iphone was (shocker). mulitiple bleutooth devices were added, and used without so much as a wimper. i would like a bit more sound volume (because im a touch deaf in one ear), or at least some sort of equalizer function...but thats more wm7 than lg. summary: really damn impressed!
the size, weight and build quality have (obviously) made me change my mind about lgs ability to produce a viable device that will likely see much use from me before it gets replaced...or should i say "upgraded"? good, solid and dense; it dosent feel like a toy that will crumple under my usage, or break if i get a bit carried away. it feels like a productivity tool...which is exactly how i intend to use it!
I hope this helps provide some perspective...and slightly more than .02!
ciao!
I went from a Tilt2 to a HTC Surround... HATED not having the slide-out keyboard, got an LG Quantum... LOVE IT!!!

My Quantum was delivered on 7 December and last night, 20 December, was only the fourth charge including the first one out of the box. Last night I talked with my brother in Oregon for about three hours and the little battery icon was pretty small.
My wife is using the Quantum most of the time and her usage is lower than mine, but she makes and receives calls all day, does a few text messages and when we are driving around, every time she sees blue lights or hears a siren she goes onto her favorite websites, the sheriff’s scanner and fire rescue site. She has her favorite websites pinned to the home screen at the bottom and can logon in seconds anytime with a slid and a tap.
Because of a posting mishap, it is now after 11pm 22 December and the battery icon still says the Quantum has about 1/3 charge after two days of use.

so, did you notice phone get too hot when charged ?
I did not have the HTC surround long enough to charge it more than 2x. My LG Quantum does not get hot during charging.
I had to charge my Tilt 2 every day since I use outlook with exchange and the connection is always open. I have the same setup with the Quantum and only charge it every 2-3 days.

[Q] Positive Comments Regarding Dell Venue Pro

So with all the issues around, is there anything positive from those who have actually managed to get the Venue Pro about the device itself ?
Pros -
Solid construction
Sharp and vibrant screen
very nice keyboard
Cons -
Camera - poor / useless in low light
Overall after using the HD7 now for a week I am longing for my Venue Pro back. The unit feels good and solid in the hand and the 4" screen seems to be the perfect size.
Can't wait to get the call from the Microsoft Store to be able to go pickup a working unit.
Its one of the best devices I used so far. The WP7 OS feels great. The keyboard is good to have. Camera sucks, but I am not a big phone camera fan any way its just a utility thing. The curved screen is so good that in direct sunlight it feels good. The battery life is decent, I use a lot of phone (and I mean a lot over 7000 mins per month) and it lasts till 6:30PM or 7:00PM and I have to charge it a little bit to get me till bed time. I charge the phone overnight and unplug it around 7:30AM. The device is a bit heavy but thats exactly what I want. Makes me feel strong, ha ha ha. But overall if Dell can go thru the labor pains I think that this baby will look great and all the babies that follow.
I love the phone...
Battery life is something to be desired, but hopefully that improves...Camera is really poor...my Sony X1 had a better camera, get blurred pictures all the time and the settings reset whenever I start up the camera, which is annoying.....
In direct sunlight, its really hard to see the screen, so i'm looking for an anti-glare screen protector, so hopefully I can find one that sorts out that problem
I originally had the 16gb DVP, but gave it back and got the 8GB instead and will look to convert to 32gb (waiting on the class 2 sd card to come in the mail), but have a lot less hangups than before, and it only stalls when connected to wifi and d'loading large files (youtube hd or big Xbox Live games)....
Keyboard is fantastic, windows 7 as an OS is good, but has a lot of things that it needs to implement and quickly if it should catch up on everyone else...
I find it weird that they omitted glaringly obvious things (custom ringtones, inability to back up the phone or use it as a USB drive and SB cards that cannot be removed)...its as if they took two steps back and only one forward....
I'd give it 7/10....mainly for the bad camera and limitations of windows phone 7, but give multi-tasking and some sort of device manager (still shake my head that I have to e-mail a Microsoft word file to my own phone to view and edit it) and proper connection to skydrive, then it will def jump to an 8/10...but by that time I would have probably sold this phone for a post-Mango wp7 model
I love the phone....
I've had the HD7 and been able to play with the LG and Samsung in the US. I prefer the Dell. It fits my hand well, solid and sturdy. With the 32g card it rocks. I've moved all my music over to the Dell and purchased a Jabra Cruiser 2 for transmitting it in my car.
Signal strength is good, wifi coverage is good, battery life (as I use it) is easily acceptable.
it's heavier than the other phones, but I'm not sure I really care.
If I had to do it all over again, I might have paid for the 8g and upgraded card instead of the 16g....but whats done is done.
I agree too. I just dropped my phone and the DVP screen cracked. I went back to the HD7 which I had before the DVP. I understand Dell was making PDa's while HTC was still in diapers but HTC's HD7 just toooooo many issues.
My only issue with the DVP was wifi and once I turned it and left it off my phone was great. I am really traumatized by the loss of my DVP. Dell offered to replace for $249 but I can't make that investment again.
Does anyone know of an online retailer I can send the phone too, to have the screen replaced cheaper?

S6 Edge, problems & issues List

Personally I'm on my 7th device and finally have one that I'm accepting. The local ATT warranty store manager himself went through 5 phones before he found one he kept. The phone itself is great on paper and performance is top notch. I just wish Samsung paid a little more attention to QA standards and tested the phone more thoroughly before releasing it. At this point if you have a phone that is hardware defect free, one can only hope software issues will be resolved in future OTA's. I have contacted my carrier and Samsung and they are now aware of the issues. However I urge you all to call and let your carrier know of any problems b/c the only way Samsung will resolve these is if the carriers get enough feedback to contact Samsung direct.
This is the list I have experienced and some I'm aware off. Feel free to add to the list.
::::::::Hardware:::::::
Screen- bubble under lens
- dimples and ripples under lens
- scratches on lens surface
- scratch under lens
- hue tone near bottom is more pink
Home Button- recessed on one side (2 of them were almost flat on right side and raised on left)
Back button - stops working
Heat - I would not consider this a problem, I only charge at 1/2xC or less, in my experience heat is perfectly normal on Li batteries during discharge and charge.
::::::::Software::::::::
Email Notification - Audible push email notifications don't come through after phone has been unused for 10 mins or longer on mobile network (lots of threads created on this)
Exchange emails - EAS emails get deleted as soon as it shows up in the client
OTA Update - Phone would not OTA update OE2 - soft, hard resets, clear cache made no difference
Memory management issues - Tmobile/Sprint phones
Screen rotation - out the box screen rotation did not work, *#0*# gyro test indicates fault
Reboot Cycle - out the box phone would just continuously to reboot
Carrier Options - Some carriers like ATT have removed some basic options and features other carriers allow: Calendar option to lock screen with power button on att phones is inclusive with immediate lock. Smart Manager, Download booster.

Thanks i forgot to add that, very odd how some of these phones have issues and some don't, I can understand HW QA issues but software when they all get the same FW is byond me
On a G925I device running firmware AOD3, I experienced a much worse issue with brightness whereby when auto-brightness is off, the screen wouldn't dim before timing out (actually it would dim, but maybe only like 1%). Very annoying when you're reading some text and the screen just turns off without warning! I've upgraded to AOE3, and now I only have the auto-brightness issue mentioned above.
My first Edge functioned flawlessly, but had a spec of dust under the screen. No other problems whatsoever. My second Edge seems to be great so far.

It is a hit or miss, that is bad QA and Samsung needs to tighten up their standards if they want to keep up with the big boys.

Sad thing is... they ARE the big boys. I had two OnePlus Ones that were fantastic out of the box. My first S6 (regular) had defective hardware/software that I couldn't fix, second S6 (edge) had dust under the screen. On my third device I think I've finally got a good one. If a small company like OnePlus can get a phone with amazing specs (at its time) for under half the cost of Samsung AND still have decent QC, Samsung can too. They just aren't doing their job.
I agree their quality control is horribly lacking with the S6. This is my first android phone, I'm a long time blackberry user, never been a fan of apple for various reasons i won't get into but everyone is going to compare their quality to iOverpaid phones which sadly is a benchmark in the industry these days. The lack of QC/QA is pathetic at best. Even worse is their customer service when a member here sent in his phone for repair he got the phone back with dust under the screen. I realize mfg of this phone is very difficult and it is probably easier to replace than repair but there is no excuse when you pay for a flagship one that is about $1k to have these many hardware issues, software is a different story and more acceptable but hardware is inexcusable. I spent too many weeks and days of my life dealing with this issue, I was at the point on this 7th phone if it did not work I was going back to blackberry and staying forever.
3th S6 edge for me.
1st: after one hard drop, I've pretend to try returning it by pretending a problem with dead pixel... And got a fresh one
2nd: strange home button: raised on the left, bubble under the screen ( barely unnoticeable ) plus, it's no big deal, but this one was unable to reach 66k on antutu.
3nd: perfect! Easily reach 72k on antutu
you got a dead pixel after you dropped it? and the phone showed no sign of visible damage outside?
I don't run benchmarks on phones, and even the ones on PC you have to take with a grain of salt. But it is odd the performance was so far off assuming all is equal?
Some times rotation dosn't work in gallery...but i think cause is rom modded...
You can't fault the mfg for non oem ROM issues but there have been phones out the box with rotation issues for sure
Noticed this last night : light bleed at the edge when the capacitve keys are on.
I think it's a defect. Anyone else have this ?
I had that on one unit but it was very minor and again it is a mfg and quality issue.

Xperia Z5 problems finally sorted - 5th attempt!

This is absolutely ridiculous! I have replaced the Xperia Z5 four times now the 5th unit I have finally has no issues. I ordered it directly from Sony (luckily not from Amazon as they probably would just kept “repairing” the same unit by resetting it to factory settings and each time it would take me weeks to get my phone back…) That's what it took to finally get the phone without any problems...
The first phone did not have any build quality issues and had absolutely no gaps between the screen and the frame. For a flagship phone, not being able to store my “pocket fluff” between the screen and the frame is absolutely unacceptable so I asked for a replacement.
Second unit did not randomly restart even once! I tried everything and it just would not restart at all. I really wanted to see the LED light blinking red at least once but apparently Sony decided that random restarts are not what the customer wants! Again I asked for a replacement.
Third phone's both speakers were equally loud. I was expecting that the bottom speaker will be noticeably quieter. My left ear is not as good as it used to be (courtesy of Vietcong) so was hoping the sound will be nicely balanced. Unfortunately this was a problem for me because you cannot adjust the L/R speaker balance in YouTube app so every time I watched videos the sound was much quieter on the left side of the phone. It was very annoying so again I asked for the phone to be replaced.
At this point you probably wonder why I didn’t give up and go for a different brand. Well, I just really like the Omni balance design and you can easily call me a Sony fanboy as almost all of my electronics are Sony. It did however make me consider switching camps but ultimately I decided to give them another chance.
Fourth phone I really hoped will have all these amazing features people here are talking about. And it did!! Unfortunately the heating element did not work properly and I was able to record the 1080p 60fps and 4K videos for longer than 3 minutes in room temperature (UK room temperature not Bangkok room temperature). I even managed to record 4K video for 15 minutes once! Who on earth would need such long videos! On top of that I was really hoping to use it as a hand warmer in the winter but since the heating element did not work properly I was unable to. In addition, when playing demanding games the phone would not shut itself off after 5+ minutes and because of that I almost got addicted to Candy Crush Saga. I thought that I’m now so close to getting a perfect unit I have to try for the last time…
And it finally happened!!!! The fifth phone I got is perfect and it finally has all these amazing features mentioned in this forum! It has a nice gaps to store my pocket fluff, the speakers are amazingly unbalanced, it does randomly restarts itself to make my life more unpredictable and it warms up nicely when making videos or playing games to the point when it shuts itself off.
And now the cherry on the cake…are you ready for it????!!!
All previous four phones were missing Sony’s amazing built in filter giving this cool effect of blurring the left side of the photos!!! Yes!!! You read it right!!! I finally have the Z5 that does have a proper “left-hand-side-photo-blur” (“LHSPB”) effect built in!!!! Now I can finally uninstall Instagram as this is the only filter I will ever use!!
Anyway, apologies for the long post but I just wanted to share my happiness and thank Sony for amazing customer service and all the fun I had replacing all these phones
P.S. Here’s the link to the photos I took to prove that I have the phone with the LHSPB filter that’s working properly!!

Seems like you are plagued by bad luck bre.
Happy for you for finding a suitable and perfect device which meet all commercial announcement.
From my side I did not succeed yet to have a phone with all elements working as they should be.
I currently am waiting for a 12th replacement... I am staying with this brand as a lot of people are satified with (and also becuse I am coming from the perfect XZ).
Nevertheless, Sonny has to take care about their manufacturing quality issue as from my point of view it is becoming unacceptable...
I will post later on if the 14th device is the good one...
Finger crossed...
For the story, I have encountered :
- Left hand blur issue (x3)
- Screen Issue (white spot on different areas) (x2)
- Camera Button issue (focussing but not shooting)
- Unglued back glass
- Bad speaker (x2)
- Jack hole not working
- Heating issue while recording
- Soft brick or HW brick after MM Update
@chrisftlse, that's a real dedication to sticking with Sony I'd probably do the same and people like us are probably part of the problem. If people just stopped buying Sony phones after experiencing problems they would have to do something in the end.
I also experienced smaller issues which I didn't mention earlier:
1. Rattling vibration module;
2. Uneven and sticking out sim card flap;
3. Bluetooth skipping after MM update (surprisingly the phone I have now seems to be OK);
4. Shutter button not working properly; and
5. Camera focus problems (in 2 out of 5 units I had);
I hope this time you'll finally get the proper phone that's in usable condition. Fingers crossed!

Thanks for your encouragements,
I will keep you posted as soon as I receive my New Device
@ OP.. lol. Really enjoyed reading your post. Hillarious (excellent sense of humour) as it is but I do feel for you as I've myself been that route! Anyway, good luck and enjoy your phone with "LHSPB filter".. lol!

Could you post a picture taken with the new device, the one that has no blur?

This is the bit that I do not understand: are these photos blur-free, or do they exhibit blur?
I can't understand with your first post if these are indeed supposed to be blur free or not.

Yes I can understand your point of view but I currently am engaged with a provider contract (Orange to name it) and unfortunately they are refusing to either propose me another brand/model either to cancel the contract so I have escalated this to their complaint manager.
BTW, as this XZ5 did not work for me, I do not pay any monthly fee since November last year... small compensation
I am waiting their call and perhaps switch to the XZ5 Premium instead of the normal one as I do not want either to go to another and available brand from their catalog (iPhone, Samsung, Huawei) may be I will decide to switch to the HTC 10 but I really prefer the Sony one
I don't think there is. Previous phones I had were severely affected but unfortunately I don't have any photos. Maybe XDA-Developers community could judge?
Also you can find a long thread here that has many examples of photos blur.

Following the link provided in your first post goo.gl/WGbQjS, look at the trees in the top-right areas. And your device probably has slight right hand side blur, I would say.
ALL Z5 devices will exhibit blur. I've been through all the messages in this forum and in the Sony Mobile forum, and there always is blur in the corners. Most people agree here, right? But I go further: there is always a side which is a tiny little bit blurrier than the other. In all cases. The lens is never 100% well centered.
But where you're right is that, in some cases, the blur is just too pronounced. In this case, you see it clearly, and the only solution is to exchange the device.
I don't believe many devices are really bad, and I also don't believe the Revision number makes a difference. I have a Rev 1 device bought last month, and I only have slight blurring on the right side, that, I take, is a side effect of the wide angle lens, more than a manufacturing defect from Sony.
On this forum and on Sony Mobile, you will find here and there a few pictures with blur-prone lighting conditions in the corners which nevertheless are 100% blur free : these are FAKES. The reason is extremely simple: even on the left corners of my pictures, that is, my clear, non-blurry side, there is a tiny bit of blur, that I can see and measure. Meaning all corners are affected to some extent. Meaning it is not possible to get a blur-free picture (corner blur). It's that simple.

I don't believe it is possible to have 14 faulty devices in a row - this is what I meant. In probabilistic law, the chances are incredibly low. Go play and play the lottery, I would say
Well, the Xperia X will be available very shortly. It would be silly to switch to another brand if you like Sony.
It seems the X won't have a very compact version like the Z5 have. Makes me comfortable with my choice of the Z5C. And BTW the Z5P seems affected just as much as the Z5 and Z5C.
@frankm87, I think you're missing a point here a little bit. Nobody is really complaining about the blur and darkness in the corners as this is a normal effect caused by light in the lens called "vignetting" and every camera in the world suffers from it to some extent. The LHSPB problem with Z5 is a completely different thing and shows as a very distinctive and pronounced blur only on the left hand side of the photo which looks a little bit like smudged picture when you move your camera. you can also spot a very pronounced border where the blur ends in most cases and when you turn the phone upside down, the blur will be on the right side. In addition, every camera will have a bit softer focus on the side of the photo but this is different then the smudgy blur in Z5. In my opinion the camera I got does not suffer from the LHSPB issue and all softer focus is either vignetting or normal softer focus in the far edges.
@chrisftlse, One guy in UK had the same issue and actually threatened Sony with lawsuit and Sony agreed to buy him out from his contract and offered compensation. His problem was similar as he kept getting faulty Z5's and network operator refused to exchanged it to a different model as he signed contract for Z5. At least they offer you different models.

Are you talking about CerberusSco? He did keep the phone, and offered it to his son. Proof Sony's phones aren't THAT bad, huh
As for the left hand blur issue, I don't think it is as binary as you say. And none of the pictures I have seen on the forums with the blur issue have a pronounced border where the blur ends.

Yeah, that's the guy I was talking about Never said they're bad, it's just that Sony's quality check process is lacking and they're not exactly the best in terms of customer service I love my Xperia Z5 and I also had Z2 which was a great phone but with its own unique problems. All in all, Sony does make great phones
Yeah, I agree it's not so black and white with the LHSPB. Maybe I wasn't explaining properly but the border is not like sharp line, more like an area where you can start seeing that the blur gets much smaller.

Sounds to me like the store/vendor is providing him with returned phones hopping one of them will stick. 14 faulty ones in a row just is impossible if you buy in a regular store. That or there is something fishy going on with the storytelling here. You know unicorns and magic wands. But I believe he is being played out by the store. Would be interesting to know the serial and revision number from all of the 14 phones.

Hi XZ5 lovers,
Just to update my situation, my carrier finally came back to me with a proposal:
1- Change again the defective XZ5 with a brand new one (new box)
2- Change to any other model
I have selected the 2 option and now running the HTC 10
I am very sad cause I liked this phone so much (despite all encountered issues) but I have decided to turn the Sony's page for now on...
But I did not tell my last word I am purchasing a brand new XZ5 for my wife

So.. You bought a used one and/or had your Z5 exchanged for used ones by the store instead of brand new ones? That explains why you got so many faulty ones one after another. You where getting returned faulty phones as exchange units. So in short this has nothing to do with Sony and all to do with the store playing faul game with you.

Hello~ Just returned the OP5 and pre-ordered the U11 Solar Red!

Just returned the OP5, it's nice and all but I got a weird issue with the Wifi hotspot, which is a deal breaker for me.
Then saw the U11 Solar Red and also $50 discount going on, so pull the trigger... I have read good thing about U11's battery life and camera, and I am eager to try out the Edge Sense feature. I want a quick way to launch the camera and am used to Motorola's quick capture (double-twist to launch camera) feature. I think Nougat's double-press power to launch camera is not fast enough. I always have to struggle to reach the power button! So, hopefully Edge sense would be as quick as Motorola's quick capture.
The missing of the 3.5 audio jack is a small issue, I want to be able to charge and listen to radio at bed time. There should be adapter out there to use the port for both at the same time?
Also, saw the screen is polarized, so with polarized sunglasses and phone in landscape mode, won't be able to see anything. That reminds me of my Nexus 5... A little inconvenience...
The memory size (4GB) is half of OP5's 8GB, do you think long term wise it would be an issue - with new updates and stuff, the OS and apps being more memory hungry by the days...
Anyway, really excited now.
My U11 does not react to polarized sunglasses in either orientation, which surprises me greatly. I was extremely happy to find this because I am outside with sunglasses on constantly. Outdoor visibility with and without glasses is a very important factor to me and I can count on one hand or less the other devices out of the 30 or so I have used that were substantially better than this.

Although i have read different experience same for me. Tried with a Rayban from a collegue and it still worked fine. But maybe there are more panels out there (like with the 10)?
Memory: On the long term maybe it will have to reload some apps (which is pretty fast). The question is also how many years you want to use it and if you are a heavy multitasker. So decide yourself if that might be a problem. Today i would see it on par with other flagships. The memory wouldnt be a point to buy the OP5 for me.

That would be nice if it's not a problem! I still remembered I got puzzled when I was using my N5 to take a video and the screen appeared to go blank.
Great choice, you're gonna love the solar red U11.
As of now, there's no adaptor available which supports charging and audio output at the same time. This is because the adaptor which the U11 uses actually has a DAC and not just a signal converter. I'm ok with that since it is giving good audio quality, and charging is really fast.
Edge sense is awesome. To me, the biggest benefit comes with being able to squeeze to snap, no need to stretch for the on screen or volume shutter button. Just one thing to note, the camera does have a delay of about 0.5secs after you squeeze to prevent movement from the squeeze itself.
The screen does turn a little darker in landscape mode, but not totally black, so you should be able work with it with polarized glasses on.

Unfortunately I was told by support that it won't ship until 2nd week of July and I don't wanna wait, so I go ahead to order the silver one and cancel the red one. I want to try the phone and see if I wanna keep it, if so, I may still return the silver and then get the red one... The reason I do all this is because I will be out of country for the whole of August, so I want to try out the phone asap.

Yea, the red version is still a "pre-order" so there's a risk of being delayed anyway. I personally like the silver one very much as it's actually light blue most of the time. Red will be outstanding in a way that it will be screaming out for attention, which doesn't suit everybody's taste. Do update after having experienced the phone
Turned out they didn't cancel my solar red order, well I'll leave it like that, see which color I like and return the other one.
