[Q] publishing my apk - Android Software Development

I'm almost done with an apk I modded and I just wanted to know what I need to make sure is done correctly before I publish. I don't wanna waste $25. Thanks.

Can anyone help?

If I understand you correctly you took an app written by someone else and after modding it, you want to make a profit by selling it as your own. In my opinion it's highly unethical and without written permission from the original author it's illegal - therefore you shouldn't do it.
Ps. Please elaborate in case you meant something else.

Sorry I should of made it clear that the apk was open source. I Googled "open source apks" and found one. Modded it and added my own stuff. Sorry I didn't make this clear.

If you read the License, it states that you can freely use the source code, except to make profit. So you would be violating the License.

Develop a market?

Okay so I have thought about this for a long time.
I want to develop a Market, but I don't know were to start... So I need help with this. Maybe we can make a development team of this?
What I can do:
- Supply with Servers (MySQL, FTP etc)
- code in eclipse (I'm not a hardcore coder)
- design the app
I guess you can have a listview to begin with that takes data from a JSON from a MySQL database. Well I'm not really sure.
So if any is interested, post here on this thread or send a PM to me
I know it's a lot of work... Please don't remind me about that, lol.
See this thread:

It would be very useful.

that doesnt appear to have anything to do with this topic. they are discussing how to compile and package native c binaries for android. the only thing that comes close is the discussion of opkg
If u need any apk's to stock it let me know. I have somewhere in the ballpark of about 1400. I would need to go through them all 2 remove all the paid apps 1st though.

Okay I'll do that. For the moment the market has to be developed.
lol. yea i figured that part but i just wanted to throw it out there since i seen your post.
excited to see what comes of it.
You could probably just take a look at the AOSP source code, specifically the market code, and get started from there.

Idk if you read the post that you linked. It specifically asks not rehost the files. While we are in no obligation to follow requests from other forums its common courtesy to support other developers when they do so much for the community as a whole. Something to keep in mind...
Otherwise thanks for the link!

i just thought the original host was horrible since you gotta wait 15 minutes between downloads unless you have an account. but alright, i wont rehost.

If u consider xda a mall, then yes I am lol. Still as I said, its a matter of courtesy. We are under no obligation to follow any request from other forums(that I'm aware of at least). I said something because paul is a huge figure as Android community goes and he deserves respect as does everyone. Android community is built on the backs of people liked him.
In comparison your post is pointless & if it want explicitly directed at me I would be removing it as it is unconstructive and is a direct attack (for lack of a better weird) on another user which is not tolerated. as it its I'll let it slide, but don't try and push it, I doubt another mod will do the same.

It's not that simple. Samsung use binaries they are simply not allowed to release source for, due to IP rights and stuff of their respective owners.
These hardware designers have no duty nor intention to release source for their IP just because they're used in conjunction with an open source OS.

NOT signed because this is really NOT important!
Samsung, will, I am sure, release what source code they can (for legal reasons, such as IP licensing) ONCE THEY RELEASE ICS for the SGS2.
They WON'T release the source code before that, as they are still changing the code and working on the features / bugs etc. to make ICS work on the SGS2.
No amount of b*tching from anyone will make a large multi-national like Samsung drastically change their development / release cycles *JUST* to keep a very small number of users happy.
... remember they're under NO OBLIGATION to release this source code in full... although I'm sure they will...

What you don't seem to grasp is that Samsung DOES release its code within the month of releasing an official ROM (Update1, 2 and 3 of the Gingerbread source being the prime example of this). They release the source they CAN release. The petition is to put pressure on them for the rest of the source code, which I agree with stuclark, is quite possible will not happen. I signed the petition just in case to give an extra number to a petition I don't believe will matter.
stuclark is entitled to his opinion, as you are, so let him post what he wants. He did not do it in a cruel manner or with horrible intentions. He is in his right to not sign if he does not believe. This is just like a friend of mine who got bullied by students because she didn't wanna sign a petition.
And he is right you know, 5200 users as opposed to the millions of phones that were sold... Is a VERY small portion of the SGS2 community.

I have no problems when someone is entitled to his/her opinion.
BUT (s)he said that "it isn't important".
However, as there are people who sign this petition (or would, if they knew that it exists) it's BS.
(S)he should have said that it's not important in her/his opinion. That's quite a difference.
Your "argument" is nice too. The typical "you can't change anything anyway" argument.
Congratulations, if you think that way.

Build NoMoarPowah for Galaxy 3

Can someone build NoMoarPowah like app for Galaxy 3?
NoMoarPowah is an app that automatically boots the (battery drained) phone in to android when connected to a charger. It is an amazing app but it is limited to a handful of Samsung devices only. I wish to expand the scope of this app. So, is there anyone who knows how to port this thing on Galaxy 3?
Post your questions/ concerns below.

every android phone including our galaxy 3, boots up into android when it was switched off automatically due to low power and then connected to the charger !
why would we need an app ?
EDIT: And this is just a request so it should have been posted in the general or q&a section.
im sorry to say but even if you ported this app, it belongs to the apps section only. by no means it belongs to the dev section
This is only an advice, dont take it serious

There is no source for this app... it is quite difficult to hack it and make compatible...
I know there are some tools to decompile apk into java source code but i'm a bit afraid to break some copyright rules... I do not want to do it, anyway this app would be useful man!

Not going to happen, as it's a paid app.
The app should work, it's the images that need to be resized to fit our screen.
Anyone wanna give it a try, resize the images in assets folder in the apk, or in /system/nomoarpowah (after you've installed the app and install it's files), and then reboot.
Even it it doesn't work (unlikely), it won't do any harm

You should thread carefully even if it isn't a paid app. Just because an app (or any piece of software) is free that doesn't automatically mean you (legally) have the right to decompile and use it's source (code).

It seems to me that you didn't even give him a full day to respond, that's definitely not enough time. I understand that you are probably excited and anxious, but you still have to give him time.
I don't think work on this should be started before hearing from chainfire, I'd also suggest that a dev (preferably recognized) that would work on this be the one to contact him and find some kind of comprise (this is an ad or pro app so a compromise is probably necessary if chainfire himself won't be working on the app). Perhaps that "our" dev can release an ad free version solely on xda (that will only work with our phone) and that chain fire can release a version with ads on the market. That's just a suggestion, who knows what chainfire will say.
Anyways I know I'm interested in how he got it to work and would love to be able to view the code someday (when I have enough android knowledge to understand the code)

I do not mean to hurt or misjudge anyone but the truth is chainfire is not even responding to his consumers. If you go to his threads, you will see people waiting to get support from him but unfortunately he aint responding. In such a scenario, it is difficult to contact him.
What you suggest is the right way to approach this issue. But someone will need to take extra efforts to reach him.

I don't think that decomiling an app is something illegal both if the ap is free or aid. It becames illegal if you edit, recompile and distribute it.
Otherwise any tool like apk tools, dex2jar etc would be illegal.
Anyway i gave a look at the code and i found it a little difficult to understand. Well not difficult, i mean, a dev shoul spen a big tima to understand ot and make approriate changes... i do not have all of this time, but i can help if someone starts to work on this.

Hi @designgears,
I've modified your script a little and given it a third option, to also include a couple of extra files that are needed in the newer firmwares.
Do you object to me making it available to the community now that you've closed your original thread?
Of course all credits remain with you, it just helps those who need it as I've been hit with PMs about how to get the newer versions working.
I've had to notify you in this way (creating a thread) as it says you do not receive private messages any more.

Last post he did was in a Nexus 5 thread, I've been told by mods I cannot post bugger all unless I get his go ahead, even if I rewrite it from scratch as it's still his method if you know what I mean.
So I have added something extra, to what was already a great tool to help people, but cannot release a thing.

I think you are the complete opposite of what XDA stands for in the name of Android development. No sharing. No help. No assistance. Just lock up your own code for some Internet fame.
I don't even care about vega as my knox is tripped.
It's not right that you can just say, "okay this code is now licensed under xyz license" and then you don't even offer support? There is a difference between a kang and a rewrite...
What do you gain by licensing it? I read that you stated it's because you don't want to support the other kangs or something? Well, nobody expects you to.
You are just hampering development for this device.
Just my two cents and not meaning to be a personal attack but I just don't see your motive.

It wouldn't have gone up, after the mods filled me in on the "Ins and outs" and even if you'd have stayed away, I wouldn't have posted it, I got PMs for it, but didn't disclose anything, because I "respectfully" understood why.
Even if you had have stayed dark, it wouldn't have been posted without your permission... it would have been annoying as hell, but not released.
As for the comment above, I thanked because I can sort of see what he's getting at about the code, rewrite it another language, it becomes something different that achieves the same result.
The fact you've reopened the original thread, has restored my faith in humanity
