Pulled the trigger, and made a change - G2 and Desire Z General

Just wanted to say hello from socal, pulled the trigger on a g2 last night to replace my trusty mt3g 1.2
Hoping I made the right choice over the mt4g and for the forseeable future ...free express shipping so ill be around these parts more often...

You defibetly made the right choice. You'll be glad about the high development support and/or stock android later on.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 running Cyanogenmod.

Welcome home. ....... from all of us ehre here (oops, my dyslexic tourettes)

Put it this way, the only thing that the mt4g has that the g2 doesnt is a FFC and a crappy version of sense.... I believe the other hardware is the same? (processor etc.) also the g2 has a keyboard, which is always a plus

Much better choice over the mt4g.. unless you wanna take pics of yourself easier.. then I guess you'll miss out on ffc. Not a day goes by I don't miss my mytouch..

My dad had a MyT4G. He returned it cuz he hated the expressio look about is now waiting first the Nexus s to be released.

I'm bout to be one I want the MYT4G but I cant use to the look of it

Don't want to thread jack, but I also placed an order for a free g2 yesterday to replace my g1. It should be coming this week. If not, next week for sure.
I had the g2 when it first came out, but afraid that it wasn't going to get fully rooted (droidx), returned it. And now I'm picking it back up.
To me, it's the fastest android phone out right now, and the keyboard is always a plus.
I will miss the form and the keyboard on the g1 though.

Backseat to G2

Was just wondering why it seems this device is taking a backseat to the G2? Is it just the length of time it has been released, or do devs really like the G2 better? I was just hoping to get a little feedback. I am coming from a G1 to this. Really like it, and am looking forward to seeing it improve over time like the G1 did. Just thought I'd start some discussion.

Maybe because the G2 had been out longer? Also HTC hasn't released source yet, so that probably plays into it. I still think that this phone will get some love pretty soon. Personally I'm going to sit back and be patient, phone still rocks stock.

Same here bro. I've already seen the preview of cm6 on the mt4g. It's just a matter of time..
Several reasons...
The G2 has been out longer, it's an official dev phone, lots of devs picked it up (incl Cyanogen), etc.
Both the G2 and MT4G were rooted the same time, and one of the CM devs has the MT4G so we'll get some CM lovin soon. Maybe not as much as the G2, but I'm confident we have a better phone in general, and this baby will be rockin custom ROMs soon (and we'll have lots of stuff to rock out and toy with as the weeks roll on).

Probably for another year or so, depending on the releases of the phones at the time. If i can get my hands on the new HTC Flyer when it comes out in Canada/US, it might extend my time with the DZ/G2 however.
Until AT&T suckes up TMobile.
Not investing in another phone before that happens, and certainly NOT staying as an AT&T customer once it does.

What 2gigs back and what rom?
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
HTC phones can last pretty long. My 3.5 year old Tilt/Kaiser still works great (just some cosmetic dings, and normal wear and tear). And I'm sure there are plenty of folks with much older HTC devices around here. I have a friend still rocking the G1, with another whose G1 just died. Of course, electronic devices can fail at any time. But on average, HTC phones are pretty durable. I expect to get tired of my Vision long before it fails. I seem to be moving to a 1-year phone upgrade cycle lately.
mine is usually a year too but for some reason id like to keep it for longer, bit no doubt that will fade in a month r so
I love mine, the only thing I miss so bad is a Front Facing Cam. If and when HTC releases another phone with a Keyboard and a FFC, which I can use with Wind/T-Mobile, I am going for it, until then, will stick to my G2.

Wondering that too. I know there are 2Gigs locked down in the phones internal memory i didn't know you could access it. Can you put us to were you were talking about?
Yeah, until att takes over tmobile... why have a phone that doesn't work on their 3g/4g... I might try and call in right before the deals approved by fcc.. ***** that I have a phone that doesn't run off att bands and try to get a phone that does.. like the G2x... but well see how that goes.. I want a ffc since my gf has one it'd be nice to video call here and there.. other than that this phone has everything I want in a cell phone.. I don't need nor care for dual core.. ill have a tablet for that eventually...

Since I've weened myself away from the rollercoaster ride of CM7 nightlies. I've put on a new ROM (UD) and have fallen in love with my G2 all over again. Since I've purchased a extended battery and I fixed my week hinge (swapped out the stock spring) . I don't see myself getting a new phone until a while.

He didn't get the 2 gigs back, he uses pyromod which doesn't use the internal space for apps. what I dont understand is why these people think you need that 2 gigs if you aren't even going to use the internal space anyway... These data to sdext roms make absolutely no sense.

Who is still using their vibrant?

I got mine the first day it came out for t mobile and still using it. Sure, it has many flawed but the phone still good and most phones that out or coming out soon is barely an upgrade imo.

I use my vibrant everyday until i get my new hercules....
Still using mine, although i got a warranty exchange for a jankey usb port. what a trip it has been. went from stock eclair at release. I remember when ext2 was the shizzle. then to froyo w/o gps, then to froyo w/gps. Wow, you mean i can put a FFC in my phone! Holy crap, cm7 works now. Then 2.3 w/o gps, now 2.3.4 w/gps, ffc, ext4, streaming netflix, gtalk with video, gamehub, 10 lockscreen options, hulu, fun nordic names for my roms. will most likely stay with ol' bess for a while
Same here, got it on Juuly 16th 2010 and still using it. Great phone, well built, slim and feels like made from HQ plastic. Loved showing off the screen to droid X, iphone buddies
Sad to see a lot of devs leave. EDT also acquired G2X's. Hope they keep up the great work with Vibrant.
I use mine when I feel like flashing roms or just messing around. Since odin makes this thing pretty much unbrickable. I still love my vibrant great phone.

i also got mine in july last year. it had almost-working gps (better than some, but not as good at my old G1). i recently called tmo and made up some bull**** excuse to get a warranty replacement and now the gps locks faster than wifes G2 (but we'll see how long that last). either way, i'm much happier now and will be able to wait for quadcore goodness (whenever that will be) or at least until my contract is up.

Why would you go from a Vibrant to a NS.. the hardware is so similar it seems like a waist of money..

Still using mine. Got mine a month after release date and still loving it. I just rooted my phone for the first time like 2 months ago and just started flashing month ago. I have an update right now but not going to waste it on the sensation. Waiting for the hercules or maybe the nexus 2 4g. That and the hercules looks awesome.
Preordered mine, although this is my second one, first fell screen first onto a tile floor. I hope to replace it with a sgs2 or Hercules.

Still using mine. Looking to get a FFC asap. Its a great phone honestly, I dont see the need to jump ship just yet, especially with these 2.3 roms with semi working GPS coming out. As soon as my contract expires this fall, i'll be switching to a no contract plan until the Att/T-Mobile merger either happens or doesn't next year. If it does, i'll end my service plan and move over to Sprint, if it doesn't, i'll probably still end up moving to Sprint once they have their 4G LTE up.
Still have mine. Also got it the first day it came out. Ill use until I can get an SGS 2!

Still using mine, but this weekend it will be handed over to my wife as I'll be replacing it with the Sensation. The Vibrant is still a great device and is still one of the best gaming devices out there.
I think I'll wait until a new quad-core phone comes out ...
Everyday. Got mine in Sept. of 2010. GPS worked out of the box. This phone will stay close to my heart, its my first dev phone. I know a *dev* phone is like a nexus, or along the lines of, but its the first phone I dev'd on. Great phone.

evo shift vs samsung transform vs samsung epic 4g

which ones better i kno the shift has better support and stuff but i really wanted the tmobile g2 but they dnt sell them any more so i was wondering between these three which is the best and the shift is more like the g2 except for sense
If you google 'phonearena *phone model* specs' you'll be able to see some of the differences between the phones. I was stuck between the Transform and EVO Shift myself a week ago when I picked up my new phone and silly enough the EVO won because HTC shipped it with a word processor app (I'm big into using my phone for rough draft documents). This was the big seller for me since I came from using winmo which always came with a mini version of MS Word.
Sent from my PG06100 using XDA App
The epic and shift blow the transform out of the water. But my wife has the epic, and the software for it sucks. Not as much custom stuff out there for it, and the stock software is so buggy. That screen on the epic is sure nice though...

Lol I almost got the transfrom until I read the reviews and couldn't find it on xda (at that time not sure if its here now). Very happy I chose the shift!

Yeah my wife had a moment damm that was a effin pos! they should stick to makind displays for tv's and phones and such.lol
EVO Shift all the way. Couple off friends have moments, one has a Transform, and a couple of Epics. All of them are constantly regretting their decisions to buy these phones for one reason or another. More support for the Shift, and development. Plus it's hellua great out of the box. But of course my opinion is biast. It's hard not to be, the Shift is way better.

If you want completely stock x99's GB rom here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1127169
Then MikShifted-G another GB based rom heard nothin but good reviews about this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1150481
The bad news is that HTC hasn't released the source for the kernel used in GB so you won't be able to OC any of these rom's. But MikShiftede is pretty quick from what I've read.I haven't the chance install it yet to give you first hand knowledge.
Alright so how good is the cm 7.0.3.1 for daily use or are the nightlies better to use as a daily driver

samsung transform does NOT compare to the evo shift!
I just upgraded from the transform to the evo shift and love it!!
I had shift182 rom ext4 on my transform and nothing helped the speed (or should i say lack of) issues.
Evo shift is the way to go, night and day difference!
Hope this helps.

[NEW HERE] Coming from Hero and Stopping to Say Hi

Hey all. I decided against going with the 3vo and went with the 4g (on the advice of a few sprint employee friends). I've had root on my hero since it was possible and finally just got tired of the phone itself. This phone is everything I knew it would be. SOME issues I've experienced but nothing all that bad. GV didn't work at all but it's working now and the voice option on the keyboard doesn't work. Oh well.
Anyways, I'm not at all a dev, but will be happy to give feedback on whatever rom (once root). For those who are working on root options...GOOD LUCK!!!
hello. nice to meet you

Thanks popper..nice to meet you too
Welcome to the evo. Don't mind the trolls they seem to be in abundance these days. Might make me goto the 3d just for that reason.
As for the voice, I had that problem in a few roms. Idk what the problem was but after installing swiftkeyboard x its working fine on my current daily driver. I can't say it didn't work before becouse I didn't try it.

Wow, so I'm not the only one that didn't fall for the 3-D crap. I just came from the here as well and the 3-D was only an option when I heard about the ram and dual core processor, after I messed with it for a while I was over it lol. Welcome man, its a good step in the right direction. The only way I would even consider going with a 3-d phone is once the whole 3-D option either plays out or gets much better.
