23/06/2011 EDIT: IT SEEMS HTC UK DO NOT REALLY CHECK/OR DO NOT CARE! THEY REPAIRED MY PHONE DESPITE IT BEING RADIO S-OFF AND CWM ON IT! Let's hope this lasts for the remainder of my 2 year warrenty!, although it would be better if the chip just didnt fail!
I checked the status of my repair today and it says " Your phone is ready for pick-up. Our customer service representatives or express delivery staff will contact you about a delivery schedule to return your HTC phone." Which means i should get it tomorrow, happy days
I was turning on my wi-fi when all of a sudden my Desire Z froze, completely!
This is on the second day of use after warrenty repair! (it froze and wouldn't turn on again)
So i pulled the battery out and now the phone is messed up, and i can't send it in for warrenty yet, as it clearly has Radio S-Off and Clockworkmod! (but i do not have eng hboot)
When i turn the phone on it stays at the HTC screen for ages, then after a while it fails to load anything and boots into recovery.
In clockwordmod It displays lots of E: failed to mount cache/recovery.....
I tried to flash a rom but it no longer detects my sdcard(s) (fails to mount that too)
i tried to flash via bootloader and pc10img.zip, but that fails with -fail-pu
i need to send it into htc, but will they check s-off and clockwordmod??? this is in the UK! The phone was only bought in march
Have you tried using a different sd card? If you are unable to mount the other partitions, you may be hosed I'm just curious if changing sd cards might help.
yep, i've tried two that i KNOW work, one of them works in bootloader, so i don't see why it shouldn't work in recovery
It's a hardware issue. You'll have to send it in how it is.
Everyone I've heard of with the issue got it replaced just fine despite being s-off.
There's a thread here about it.
-Nipqer
okay, let's hope it's the same for me!
i'm really annoyed at the fact that it broke 1 day after the first hardware failure!
damn im starting to see this issue more than before lately :s im even scared to flash new stuff now
the thing is, i s-offed it, flashed it ONCE since it was repaired and less than 24hours later it freezes and fails -_-
I had a mytouch 4g for a bit and their forums are blowing up about this issue too. It apparently has to do with the emmc chip. It falis to partition any longer or becomes corrupt. There are two that the g2 and the mytouch can come with and one of the chips is much more susceptible to the failure

How exactly do we check the chip?? I would like to check mines to see if I have the bad chip!
Edit: Never mind.. just run this in a terminal or adb
cat /sys/devices/platform/msm_sdcc.2/mmc_host/mmc0/mmc0:0001/name
So those of us getting replacements are more than likely gonna have this newer chip in it? Ugh!
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA Premium App
i don't trust this chip, they only fixed it on thursday, it took all of one day to fail!
and this time they can see that i have s-offed it! (last time it just failed to turn on at all) so i'm worried they'll charge me to fix it!
At least this has a 2year warrenty (length of my contract) but now i'm scared to s-off it when i get it back, incase they don't repair it again!
If you put an eng hboot on, you can brick it nice and proper so they can't see the s-off.

So I'm right then. Those of us getting new phones are up **** crick and gonna brick it for rooting and s offing it huh this sux. I bet they did this **** on purpose so if we tried to s off it that it would bust it. This is ridiculous this is OUR hardware how DARE they.

why dont you total it completely... take a capacitor, take the battery out.. charge the capacitor using a 9v battery and shock all the terminals... it wont turn on then... this is by no means a good way to get out of it but it may work... i hope we could find a solution to fix it but if the chips are crap then try it.... i have done it with my old nokia n95 when it kept freezing... i got a warrenty replacment
dont blame me if it doesnt work though lol its only a thought for you to ponder.... i would try and fix the problem using adb techniques if possible
i did try flash a eng hboot (and desire HD one to try and brick it) on, it fails with -fail-pu, so no can do there!
hopefully they'll fix it regardless, they're picking it up today.
i'm not going to do anything radical to the phone, just incase, if they charge me to fix it, i'll see how much it is, (i'd have to pay £20 to return it un-repaired anyway) if it's too pricey, i'll have it returned, and sell it on ebay and buy another HD2 with that money and whatever i can scrape together!
also, i don't have a capacitor
Not all new G2's are coming with the bad chip. I just got my latest a few weeks back (new in box) and it, thankfully, does have the good chip in it. So, not all hope is lost with getting a replacement.
Also, in the Mytouch 4g forum, many have sent their phones in for replacement just for this reason and many have been rooted and unable to UNroot due to this issue and they have all been replaced without any problems. So, hopefuly you are in that boat and don't have to worry.

Well if it was a new one that might be way. It seems they stopped manufacturing these phones awhile ago so more than likely its been sitting on a stock shelf for months! Unlike a refurb where if the person who sent it back hardware bricked it or something, they probably had to change the emmc chip in it :/

Hi. My screen has a touch imput free area on the top part of it. It is about a half inch, just bellow the notiffication bar. My phone is rooted, and i have hotspot enabled. Other than that is stock.
Plrase advise me as to what i can do. If there is nothig i can do, is my warranty voided because root? Who should i contact for warranty? Att or motorola?

Which method did you root your phone with?...
Sent from my MB860 using xda premium
I dont remember. I was rooted, and than updated my phone to the latest moto release. Lost root and than i had to flash somethig to get root back and than to unlock the hotspot app.
This was about 2 or 3 months back. All was ok till about a month ago, when i dropped the phone to the floor. Noticed the screen issue shortly after. Not sure if the drop caused this tho. There are no scratches on the screen, and it had a silicone case on it.

do you think the problem came from dropping your phone or were you messing with something on your phone? and yes your warrentty is voided, but you could get your own new screen on ebay for like 30 buxs and fix it yourself
Not sure if the drop caused it. Maybe. I noticed the pb soon after. I didn't mees with the phone, other than rooting and enaibeling hotspot.
The screen on ebay, is it the same as the stock one? Same quality?
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
Try a advanced restore of pds.img from the cwm only to see if that fixes your problem.. Thats if you did backup from cwm..
No, i didn't back up anything. Just rooted. I barely mannaged to do that.

My phone had the same thing and I sbf'd back to 1.26 and took it back no problems. Mine was also unlocked.
Sent from my MB860 using XDA Premium App
I also have that problem, the problem is with the touchscreen not the software. At first, the touchscreen will not work for sometime you'll need to turn the screen off and on again. The problem will start more frequent. Then, the touchscreen on some part of the screen will not work at all. Only to fix is to call ATT for a repair. But, I live in Thailand and I brought mine at US. So, it not worth sending it back. I buy the touchscreen off ebay for $60 and change it myself. Working great now.
Pretty cheap on ebay, some for $40. My screen started acting the exact same way. I honestly believe it's heat damage. I remember reading that there are layers of the glass that are glued together. Extreme heat could cause the layers to come apart enough that sections of the screen are unusable.
My screen is exactly as the OP said, about a half-inch from the bar at the top. I noticed it soon after I started mounting the phone in my car near the top of the windshield where it could get some steady sunlight (obviously I didn't realize it was doing that until I noticed this problem).
I just ordered my replacement off ebay and will give it a shot. It's worth $40 if it'll let me use my phone properly again and hold off having to get a new phone prior to my upgrade price kicking in.
Hopefully installation won't be too hard. Good luck to the rest of ya!
This happen to my boyfriend's phone recently as well. I posted everywhere trying to find a solution but no one could help. It started to get worse after about a week or so where another section, towards the bottom of the screen, became unresponsive as well. My boyfriend finally called Motorola and sent it in for repair. We don't have ATT's insurance so we didn't try that way. Anyways, he's suppose to receive the phone this Monday...we'll see if it's fixed.

Did your touchscreen come with the adhesive? If not, you'll need to be extremely careful when you remove the old one cause you'll need the adhesive or you'll need the two sided tape with <0.25mm thick and apply it to around the touchscreen and remember to apply it as a close system or the dust will go under your screen.
If you need more info just PM me
I think i.ll call moto.

Mine had the same issue, ive unlocked, rooted, modded the rom and radio, so no going to ATT, instead i took it to UbreakItIFixIt, just google them, best $99 i spent and kept all my custom goodies!
Sorry I haven't responded, hopefully you got your phone fixed but just in case you haven't...The phone came back and he hasn't had a problem with it whatsoever. The rep on the phone didn't know what was wrong with it or what they did to fix it but whatever they did, it worked. It took about a week or so to get the phone back and the only thing he had to pay for was shipping the phone out.
Hello XDAers,
Last night my brother's unrooted Droid X received the newest OTA Update and restarted. After the restart his phone wouldn't boot to android. Instead his phone goes to the fast boot screen (Bootloader 30.04 Battery OK, Connect USB Data Cable). There is also an error: A5,70,00,00,23.
Does anyone know how I can fix this issue under Windows 7?
There currently is not a fix for this.

Update
Did some more poking around online and it looks like this is a common issue caused by an unsuccessful update corrupting the bootloader. Knowing this, I headed down to the local Verizon store. Waited about 25 minutes for service then explained to the clerk that the OTA broke my phone. She tries the usual factory restore/wipe data and it fails to fix the problem. After this she seems like she'll replace the phone but then removes the back case and notices the water damage sticker has been triggered-- it briefly fell into shallow puddle a year ago-- and promptly tells me I'm **** out of luck.
Do I have any recourse here? Obviously, it was the OTA that bricked the phone and not water damage from a year ago. Can anyone lend me some advice on what steps I can take to get a working replacement from the big red?
Thanks a lot

You might have luck calling Verizon instead of visiting a store. Other than that, a lawsuit against Motorola would do.

Null and void.

Called Verizon and they basically told me that the update was at fault but once I mentioned the water damage they said it was the water damage and not the update. Next step, we are taking them to
small claims court.

Geez, as terrible as it is, you shouldn't have told them about the water damage. Often times they will do a lot more when you contact them via phone than when you visit the store.
You can use the newly released .621 SBF file to fix your phone, though.
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk
for Windows, you need to do the following:
install the moto USB drivers available here
install rsdlite available here
obtain the .621 SBF from here
uncompress the sbf file from the archive, then place your DX in bootloader mode by holding down camera/volume down then pressing the power button. Connect it to your pc with a USB cable then let the moto driver install. Once the driver has installed, run rsdlite and show it where the sbf file is. Then, do the install and your DX should be good to go again.
Awesome news guys. I'll try and fix it tonight.

So my phone started acting bananas within a week or two ago. Bluetooth no worky. I'm rooted and all tht good stuff. Fixed my cracked digitizer at one point. Had the phone since last march. I love the phone. Well...like I said, it went berserk on me recently. Can barely text without writing like a million monkey landed on the qwerty. Bluetooth no worky. So I took out my back up iPhone. And took atrix to AT&T. Good news. Today was my last day of my warranty. Bad news. Im using iPhone till new phone shows up. Scary news. My phone is rooted. Will they charge me when they get it and see it was rooted????
Nah, you're good.
Sent from my MB860 using xda premium
Judging by the symptoms, your digitizer got screwed again.
Obviously this has nothing to do with rooting, so this shouldn't affect your warranty in any way.
Unlocked bootloader on the other hand might tip them off. But still unlikely.
I doubt they will care about software modifications when your issue is with the hardware.
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
I'm so unsure though. Been looking fr hw to revert it back to unlocked or put the stock stuff back in it. No one has a legit true answer tht "yea, they don't care because it happened to me and I still got my new phone"
It's always speculation. I feel like I'm the only one with an atrix to ever b in this situation.
Either way thnx fr the replies.
My sons Atrix also has those same problems. The difference is that he took his for a dip in the pool, so I think that the warranty will no worky, much like the bluetooth. His wifi is borked as well. I've been trying for months to get him to let me reload his rom on the off chance that helps. But his touch was fine until recently. I think that was enough for him. He is finally gonna let me at it this weekend. From what I have gathered it's a shot in the dark at best. But with a voided warranty it looks to be the only option.

Of course warranty won't work for your son. His phone went in the POOL! First thing they check is for water damage. Not the same issue as the OP!
OP..........pity you didn't take phone for repair while still under warranty. I doubt you would have had a problem getting it fixed/replaced.
i got it to att on the last day of my warranty, i received a new locked atrix. now i got to send my unlocked one in, but i want to lock it again, im afraid if they see its unlocked ill be charged.
Hi guys!
Just wanted to share my pain, hope you won´t mind...
This is what happened:
Yesterday I came home from work, pulled my S3 out of my pocket and saw it was turned off. I tried to turn it on, but no luck. The phone was dead! Tried pulling the battery out, leaving it alone for more than 10 mins... tried to boot it into recovery - nothing. Tried the download mode - no signs of life at all. It was just a shiny brick! Putting it on charger didn´t help. No reaction, no led flashing, NOTHING! And just half an hour before everything was fine.
I was running the latest official AOKP build the last couple of days, so I really don´t believe that the software has something to do with it since I didn´t flash anything yesterday. The other question is now if the Samsung guys will notice that the phone wasn´t running stock software and that the warranty is actually void... I hope they won´t! But if they too won´t be able to turn it on, I guess they won´t!
I took the phone to the Samsung service center this morning and didn´t receive any feedback yet. As soon as I know something I´ll share it.
Did anyone happen something similar to this?
awww sorry to hear that , i am sure its covered in warranty
I don't understand the warranty thing, if the phone is dead and not due to you installing a Rom or kernel or modding it then can't really see any reason to refuse fixing or replacing it.
If however it was because of the reason that you did install things then I can see how the warranty is void.
Hope you get it seen to

Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
i don't know where you live but i'm pretty sure rooting is not illegal anywhere it just voids your warranty. removing the simlock is an entirely different story
Has happened to me too, 1 week after purchase (got stuck on the Samsung Galaxy SIII on boot). Got mine replaced right there and then but i'm left wondering about the quality of the phone. I get it that there are always problems with every product but i see so many people reporting the same lately i start thinking it may be chronic. Some component failing or some batch where something went wrong..
Sorry to hear that, they are an absolute pain in the ass with warranty in my country. They didn't even want to replace mine because the dude was claiming the back of my phone was slightly scratched (i wasn't, even) and they are quite anal about modded phones but, wish you the best of lucks!

Could you please be a little bit more precise? Is this a rumor or a new law to get passed?
exaclty the same happened to me. just in the middle of the day i realized that my sg3 was off. tried to turn it on but it didnt react. later at home i tried to charge but had the same bad result.
my biggest problem was, that it was rooted and running on a custom firmware since they tell you at every point, that you lose your warranty doing that...
after several hours of trying / searching and reading i became sure, that it would be an hardware fault and sent it to a local cellphone-support center.
they needed about 2 weeks to find out the problem, order a new main board, fix it and luckily didnt care about my custom firmware. they even updated it to the latest offical 4.1!
2 day ago i got it back and became happy - in this 2 weeks i realized how much i depend on this little thing
soo... i feel with you on this and good luck!

Stop flashing whatever roms you don't know ,or u will suffer a sever consequence "i'm talking about hard brick" .READ FORUMS AND TUTORIALS
Mine completely died just about 2 weeks ago, stock rom but rooted. Dropped it off at a service centre and got it back today with a shiny new motherboard (and JB)... As long as it's properly dead, they can't tell what's on it as the only way to revive it is to change the innards.

Dude, I´m not a noob, what happened has nothing to do with software.
I entirely accept that this is a generalism and as such is bound to attract a hoard of punters contradicting it, but in many years on these boards I can recall few if any instances where repairs have been refused due to the installation of non-standard ROMs. It is sensible for manufacturers to discourage the practice - XDA-Developers is plagued with ill-informed noobs charging off to do things beyond their technical capabilities without doing adequate research - but I suspect a refusal to play the game would be counterproductive.
That said, I would always be inclined to revert back to a stock ROM and clean up a bit if I had the option before doing a return for repair.
its the same thing that happened to my phone running cm10 about 2 days ago.
sent my phone in for repairs to samsung. they probably won't be able to find out it was modified. probably needs to change hardware to even boot the phone up.
disappointing experience. :/
by any means, did you played with the clock levels?

just got back my phone.
They fixed it even though I rooted & had custom rom installed.
Guess they couldn't tell as the phone couldn't even start up. hahah.
Now restoring the latest nandroid I had.
Nice to here that pal, hope this will not happen to anyone in future... this is my 2nd GS 3 (first broken due to Barca loss vs Madrid in August) and never had hardware problems.
So... here I am again...
Got my phone back yesterday. And it was the motherboard so they replaced it.
Man was I happy to have my phone back! But... my hapiness didn't last long.
When I came home I had to discover that now the gyroscope is not working. No autorotate whatsoever, no games that require the accelerometer...
Means they just replaced the mother board, flashed the latest firmware but didn't bother to test the device.
So tomorrow I'm going back to the service center and I'm going to yell my soul out at whoever responsible...
Unbelievable!
(screen rotation is checked, I tried calibrating the gyro, pulling out the battery, etc...)
This is such a disappointing experience... I'll think twice before buying a Samsung phone again...
