[Q] White MyTouch 4g - still no 2.2.1 - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

It's been 3 weeks since I bought the phone and it still hasn't gotten the 2.2.1 update, even after #*#*checkin*#*#
I bought the black one as well and it already came preloaded with 2.2.1
Anyone know if T-Mobile is still rolling it out?
Thanks.

Call T-Mobile and make sure they have your correct IMEI number for your new unit. Chances are they don't. Once you give them the right number you will get it soon.

If the IMEI number was wrong in their system, would the phone work?

Yes, On all of my 7 phones when I called them they still had my old IMEI number. The system is supposed to update it but many times it does not. Also on my last one they said the IMEI number was not even in the system. So they had to manually put it in. Bottom line you will not get the OTA update until your IMEI # is correct. Just call them.

Has no one figured this out yet? Even tmo tech support is lost as to why certain phones aren't updating.

Are you doing *#*#checkin#*#*?

Imei is correct, reset, checkin, left wifi off. Still no update.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App

Mine would not update and I exchanged it. Within an hour or so my new phone had it.

My phone update on the first day I turned it on (the first one anyway) and I had wifi on the whole time.
Mind if I ask why you think wifi needs to be off?

T-Mobile is stupid. Have you logged on to your account and checked to see that your device is a MyTouch4G. I had to log on and manually change it from my mytouch3g to 4g to get the OTA update.

Please post questions in Q&A section.

Wifi off I would say is tmo's way of not interrupting the download. I did get the download yesterday. It turned out the imei was not changed. It took 3 calls and threatening to cancel to get them to check it.

2.2.1 update
How about my mytouch 4g is not connected with t-mobile directly but it is connected with SIMPLEMOBILE that uses the t-mobile signal towers. how can i get the 2.2.1 update??

I just did *#*#checkin#*#* with my new phone and got the update in less than 30 minutes.

I was going to install it via force update thread but then I noticed that the display is inferior to my black one.
Gonna call this one a lemon and exchange it.

The Whiteys are always the last to get the free stuff.

Wifi calling will not happen for G2

That's what the tech rep supervisor for tmobile told me. He said the G2 isn't designed for that feature like the MyTouch HD is. He said even with the apk the hardware wouldn't support that on the G2. Is he right or wrong?
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
I dunno. I don't trust tmo anymore.
I would assume he is wrong. Why wouldn't this phone be able to do it? Doesn't it just need wifi to be able to do wifi calling? Is that a stupid assumption?
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
Ugh. I'm a tech rep myself for tmo(taking a leave of absence at the moment), and I hate it when I hear stories like this. Look, he's wrong about the wifi calling app needing some kind of special hardware to do wifi calling. With the software, the phone is perfectly capable of it. The question is if tmo will choose to bring the wifi calling app(and possibly drivers?) to the G2 or not.
Either way, I'm willing to bet that the app will find it's way onto these forums and we'll have it working on the G2 in no time.
Sounds like he was suckering you into buying a mytouch.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
The reason for my call was to get rid of the G2 and upgrade to mytouch. My phone doesn't have reception inside my house and I had wifi calling I would be able to make and receive calls. He told me exchanging or working out a deal to get the mytouch isn't possible at all and that I won't be getting wifi calling for the G2.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
The G2 is capable of Wifi calling and it will be included in the OTA update thats going to start rolling out tomorrow. I was told the update for the MyTouch 4G and the G2 will begin rolling out tomorrow but I just got an OTA Maintenance Release on my MyTouch 4G about 10 minutes ago. I've seen the wifi calling work on the G2 as well as the wireless hotspot. You will definitely have them both.
20feettall, do you work for tmobile? Or going by info you might have found online?

It's definitely coming, think about it. TMo just announced the tethering plans and the tmo comet, mytouch, and optimus t launch tomorrow all with WiFi hotspot out of the box. I've seen the updated software running on the G2, one of my best friends is a field rep for HTC.

I will say that my experiences with WiFi calling on the Mytouch 4G haven't been good at all. The call quality is terrible sometimes, to the point where the person on the other end of the phone can't hear me at all. I haven't tried it since getting the ota update tonight. I hope it works better now.

i hope your right, although im a bit skeptical.....
either way, got logcat ready
Do we need to pay extra on our monthly bill to use the wifi call feature?

it will happen starting tomorrow. if the update blocks even temp root idk.. ill wait a few days before i accept update and see what people report.

No you don't because its not uma calling. You will just be using the wifi signal to make calls instead of the tmo network.

Just speak with retentions and tell them you don't have service at home so they need to let you out of your contract..which they have to do providing you can prove it....then say if you had a phone with wifi calling like the mytouch instead you could stay with tmo

Has anyone figured out the 2.2.1 update issue?

Tmo tech is lost as to why some phones just aren't receiving the update. Is rooting the only way?

I just got a new replacement phone today from UPS. Got it this morning and still waiting for the update.
My first one update within hours of me turning it on.
I'll let ya know if I don't have it by tomorrow.
Amazing how quick my wife and I all if a sudden get the update when I tell them I am gonna return the phones and cancel the agreement! But I know why the update didn't come when it was suppose to. The imei was not correct in the system. The last rep got tech on the phone and said check the imei and sure enough it was not changed.

what's new?
yeah within minutes of me activating the phone yesterday evening it was pushed to my phone OTA.
I bet it's the update that takes away free tethering.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
I did the update when I first received the phone on Thursday and I still have tethering. This is a built in native Android feature. Eliminating that would defeat the purpose of a Nexus device.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using XDA App
Yeah I saw it as well, yesterday. I went ahead and installed it. The corporate Sprint store around here opened at 11AM and I saw it when my phone was activated at 11:30, so it must have been something they knew about before the launch.
The description said it fixes minor performance issues or something to that effect.
GRJ22 is the final OTA build sent to the rest of the Nexus S devices. The NS4G phones likely all shipped with GRJ06D and are just being brought in line with the latest release.
You can find a changelog for GRJ22 in the OTA threads (mostly bugfixes and Google Talk video chat) but it likely doesn't all apply coming from GRJ06D.

Well I had to do this update on Saturday May 7th at about noon when I got my Nexus ...
This could have something to do with the whole Google and Sprint working as one needing a quick fix... example Google voice not working right and making voicemail open to you're contacts...

Not callin' BS, sorry if it came out as if I were. Just giving my $0.02 on the update.
I was pretty surprised tethering was still in there, too, given that they charge for it for the other phones.
I didn't think they would be able to charge for tethering on a pure Google phone, until I noticed they updated the features page at Google.com/Nexus. It now says under portable wifi hotspot that it is subject to carrier fees. :/

I'm gonna check on that. In the meantime, anyone know for sure?
Sprint rep said tethering wouldn't work unless the account was already set up for the mobile hotspot $29.99/month plan. Tested to see, and you can set the phone to act as a mobile hot spot and make the connection, but it wouldn't actually give me internet access. The laptop showed the connection, but with local access only and an error about the IP address. Not surprised - it was the same way with the CDMA Hero, too.

Same here. Perhaps you were having connection issues while trying to tether; I've experienced that a few times on my EVO.
has anybody made a 2.3.4 stock rooted rom based on the OTA? my phone gets here tomorrow and i want to root and go to town!

[Q] MyTouch 4G APN Settings

I recently bought a MyTouch 4G from someone on Craigslist. It came with the stock rom on it and I could access the web using my "Unlimited Web for Phones" service. I rooted it and installed Cyanogenmod 7.1.0rc1 and can't access the web anymore unless I'm on Wifi.
Does anyone know what apn settings could have been used that would have worked?
Use the search feature. Look in the cyanogenmod dev thread. Search Google. Look in the stickies in the dev section.
All of these will give you results with 10 seconds of effort.

This exact same thing happened to me. Your sim card is not configured correctly to take advantage of the 4g capabilities. take the phone and sim to a t mobile store and tell then what's going on and they should give you a new sim and configure it correctly

I don't think my area has 4g coverage, just 3g. I'm gonna take it to T-Mobile tomorrow to see what they say tho.
