[Q] MyTouch 4G APN Settings - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I recently bought a MyTouch 4G from someone on Craigslist. It came with the stock rom on it and I could access the web using my "Unlimited Web for Phones" service. I rooted it and installed Cyanogenmod 7.1.0rc1 and can't access the web anymore unless I'm on Wifi.
Does anyone know what apn settings could have been used that would have worked?

Use the search feature. Look in the cyanogenmod dev thread. Search Google. Look in the stickies in the dev section.
All of these will give you results with 10 seconds of effort.

This exact same thing happened to me. Your sim card is not configured correctly to take advantage of the 4g capabilities. take the phone and sim to a t mobile store and tell then what's going on and they should give you a new sim and configure it correctly

I don't think my area has 4g coverage, just 3g. I'm gonna take it to T-Mobile tomorrow to see what they say tho.

Or you could just go to the coverage map on T-mobile.com and check yourself.

Wifi calling will not happen for G2

That's what the tech rep supervisor for tmobile told me. He said the G2 isn't designed for that feature like the MyTouch HD is. He said even with the apk the hardware wouldn't support that on the G2. Is he right or wrong?
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
I dunno. I don't trust tmo anymore.
I would assume he is wrong. Why wouldn't this phone be able to do it? Doesn't it just need wifi to be able to do wifi calling? Is that a stupid assumption?
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
Ugh. I'm a tech rep myself for tmo(taking a leave of absence at the moment), and I hate it when I hear stories like this. Look, he's wrong about the wifi calling app needing some kind of special hardware to do wifi calling. With the software, the phone is perfectly capable of it. The question is if tmo will choose to bring the wifi calling app(and possibly drivers?) to the G2 or not.
Either way, I'm willing to bet that the app will find it's way onto these forums and we'll have it working on the G2 in no time.
Sounds like he was suckering you into buying a mytouch.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
The reason for my call was to get rid of the G2 and upgrade to mytouch. My phone doesn't have reception inside my house and I had wifi calling I would be able to make and receive calls. He told me exchanging or working out a deal to get the mytouch isn't possible at all and that I won't be getting wifi calling for the G2.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
The G2 is capable of Wifi calling and it will be included in the OTA update thats going to start rolling out tomorrow. I was told the update for the MyTouch 4G and the G2 will begin rolling out tomorrow but I just got an OTA Maintenance Release on my MyTouch 4G about 10 minutes ago. I've seen the wifi calling work on the G2 as well as the wireless hotspot. You will definitely have them both.

I will say that my experiences with WiFi calling on the Mytouch 4G haven't been good at all. The call quality is terrible sometimes, to the point where the person on the other end of the phone can't hear me at all. I haven't tried it since getting the ota update tonight. I hope it works better now.

i hope your right, although im a bit skeptical.....
either way, got logcat ready
Do we need to pay extra on our monthly bill to use the wifi call feature?

No you don't because its not uma calling. You will just be using the wifi signal to make calls instead of the tmo network.

Just speak with retentions and tell them you don't have service at home so they need to let you out of your contract..which they have to do providing you can prove it....then say if you had a phone with wifi calling like the mytouch instead you could stay with tmo

That isn't entirely true. There is data throttling built into the system of the phone. You might want to check out the G2 forums for more info about the throttling.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
Wrong. The throttling happens at the network end. The phone itself has nothing to do with it.

Again, check the G2/DZ forum. There is a thread dedicated to overriding the data throttling implementation built into the phone. The very mod the OP is referring to. The thread is a guide to defeat data throttling.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
I can tell you for a fact that no matter what you do on the phone, if you are throttled on the network, you will still be limited to edge speeds.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
I agree... As I am also a call center rep that had been there for over 4 years.
In your profile we have your IMEI number on file that you have in your sim card in ... Every bit of a data you use it tracked by the system .. Which is confirmed by the towers from both your IMEI and sim card.
There is nothing you can do to change the IMEI that your phone sends out to the towers to your account.. Or the sim card number that is tired to your number. Then when you hit that limit you are done for the rest of the bill cycle.
The other guy is right ... Can't be changed by us in the system .. Its hard coded in the system.

You are EXACTLY correct. As a field tech I have tested with a customer that has a webconnect account and a Rocket data stick. The problem was that he was throttled back still but his account had just reset. So naturally they sent me to investigate slow speeds at his address. After testing everything was working fine so I called him and met him at his address. We put my data SIM card in his data device and everything worked fine. I then put his SIM card in my data device and it was throttled.
There was an error with his account where it wasn't reset like it should have been. We resolved it and he was back to 7+Mbps.
The moral of the story kids is, your account is throttled based on your account and not your device.
P.S. I don't believe this belongs in development but with the holidays the forum be not be monitored as much. Next time please post questions in the Q & A section! Thanks.
how much data do you have to use to get throttled? I have used roughly 750mb of data on my phone this month..
5gb
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
It is interesting to note that there is a huge section of people are defeating throttling specifically on tmobile by removing throttling services from the phone........and several TMO reps say it isn't possible. I wonder who is right?
I can confirm that these reps are WRONG. I have a little trick that unthrottles my data, on tmo, until I reboot or drop service.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
Exactly my point. It is confirmed by multiple people that throttling can be defeated on theses phones. I'm not saying that our IMEI isn't being tracked, just that it has been confirmed that throttling can be defeated.
On another note, gr8gorilla, thanks for the kernels, I can't seem to run anything other than pure stock except for your kernels. Gonna flash in 1.0 later today, running 0.5 and it works pretty well.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
Service reps are only half wrong...
The thread dedicated to this is correct...
Both the people working at T-Mo and the Phones end itself control throttling...
The reps only have so much control over the data services on a phone...
I actually saw a few posts on that thread where people said they were at 2-3mbps (just one example) while throttled and seeing an increase after 'defeating' it. 2-3mbps isnt throttled speeds. When you get throttled, you are limited to EDGE only. Plus lots of people think they are throttled when they get the text about it. The fact is, even though you always get the text at 5gb, you don't always actually get throttled at that point necessarily. Although I'm sure there are better examples than these out there and I'm definitely willing to or this to the test myself hehe.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
On two of my lines on my family plan, we've been throttled down to EDGE speed after exceeding 5GB. On those occasions, it would only last a day even though we still had about 2 weeks before the next billing cycle.
It would be great to have the throttling files removed, any devs think its possible?

Evo 4G On Straight Talk

I have successfully flashed the Evo 4G to Straight Talk.
The only issue I ran into was MMS. I had to use a different program to be able to use the MMS on the evo.
I have internet working on it at 3G speeds. I it way faster then Sprint or Boosts internet.
The network is super smooth.
If you are wondering how to flash the Evo over to Straight Talk please let me know.
###########################
Use APN Backup & Restore to backup, erase, then put these apns in the folder, and then restore them. Reboot and your MMS will work. Tested on HTC Androids Only.
Let me if you tested them on another phone.
Yes please post instructions

I've had my Evo 4G flashed to Straight Talk since November 2011, but I can't get anymore to stick on the network. When I flash any HTC now it always says "unable to authenticate", but the internet works. I have the same problem with Verizon prepaid, so my question is does anybody know the solution to get HTC's to stay on the network?

what do you mean by flashed, are you spoofing the ESN of your evo to that of a Straight-talk supported phone? and that is not working?
I was not aware that straight talk supports CDMA phones...
You will need a donor phone from straight talk first. Buy a Samsung or LG cdma from straight talk first. Then let me know once you have that.
You will need to activate it.
Then you will need to copy NV Items 464-465 and 1192-1194
Copy the PRL
Copy the NAM and evdo settings

Ditto. They can cut you off if you go over a certain amount (most people say around 2-3GB a month), but so far I've used around that amount and been good. I know some people who have gone way over (5GB) and been fine too. If you use them, don't fill in the proxy fields in the APN, just the MMS proxy stuff. If you stream constantly, this service is not for you. However for anything else it's great. And you get real AT&T speeds (I've personally gotten up to 5 Mbps in some areas).

Yup ive used 2gb and been fine, and have also heard of people going over 5gb and been fine. But id say 2gb would be the safe zone, which is probably plenty for most. Just use wifi whenever you can
my sim will be coming soon and since im gonna be using a pre 2 i dont think data limits are anything to worry about. i just want stable reliable signal where I can text and get calls reliably from a certain area sprint doesnt cut it but ATT does. my question is i am a part time promotor for clubs so i send out a crap load of texts (on sprint i saw my amount and it was around 22000 lol)
if i decide to make this my main phone i will be consuming that much.....phone calls arent an issue i mainly talk only to my gf for long periods of time at night lol
will i be kicked off for this usage?

Yes, it does. GSM SIMs and (for example) the SIMs used by Verizon (I don't, know if, Sprint has switched to a SIM based system for their up and coming LTE network) would not be compatible. You CANNOT USE A device like the Sensation on a CDMA network, period.

Sprint uses "integrated SIMs" for their LTE phones, which basically means they still use the same MEID/ESN system. Identical to the old 3G/WiMax system. And yes, you're correct. You can't use a GSM phone on a CDMA network period. You can, however take a hybrid GSM/CDMA phone (like a Droid 2 Global) and get it to work on GSM networks by hacking the radio not to ignore domestic networks like AT&T and T-Mobile.
