[Q] Help to restore stock YouTube app? - Fascinate General

I had a friend of mine help me install the new YouTube app on my Mesmerize. I want to do a full restore but since I have the new YouTube in the /system/app/ directory when I do a restore it's going to have the new version.
I'm very new to Android. I'm used to using RUU files to flash my old Windows Mobile phone. I have ADB but I'm extremely limited on how to use it. My phone is rooted using Z4root.
Please help! I'll be doing a full system backup when I finally get back to stock. A Stock RUU for this phone would be amazing! LOL

If this were the mesmerize forum I'd say get your hands on a stock rom, and copy the youtube .apk (and probably the .odex from it) to /system/app. If it weren't a system app I'd say outright delete it (with titanium) and reinstall from market.
Not trying to be a jerk, but let this be a lesson to others. Always backup your phone (preferably with CW recovery through Rom Manager) BEFORE you make _any_ changes to your phone that you don't know how to undo. You will thank yourself later!
I have zero awareness of what is available for fixing mesmerize phones.
Swyped w/ XDA App. When in doubt, mumble.

Oh, you're not being a jerk at all. I've learned a good lesson and was saved by someone who posted an Odin restore for this phone. So now I'm back up and running stock again. I'm new to Android so I had no idea that changing a system app would effect the system restore. Now I know!

[Q] Did anyone backup their stock tmo rom before deleting bloatware?

Hi, first post -been a long time lurker
Rooted my mytouch and went along uninstalling bloatware using titanium backup, wanted to reinstall a few of the programs and found that I can't.
I really would just like to restore the factory rom on it, did anyone make a copy that I could download?
Thanks
You'll probably need to wait until Clockworkmod gets ported, that way you can restore from a nandroid backup. Alternatively, you should be able to get to recovery and restore back to factory from there. Easiest way to do that is to open up adb and run adb reboot recovery. If the option to restore isn't there, turn off fast boot in options and then power off the phone. Hold volume down and power at the same time until a menu with a few options comes up. Press the volume down button until you get to factory reset and then press the power button to confirm the selection.
You should be able to just through this mofo on there...

Thanks for the suggestions, nothing has helped so far. I was able to restore the phone, but the system apps that I deleted are permanently gone. Thats what I'm looking for...
I downloaded the "stock" tmo rom from the other thread and tried to install it from rom manager with no success. When I'm in recovery, I get the error can't read zip file when I try to apply the stock rom.
So, any other suggestions?
Thx
Only thing I can think of is you're gonna have to wait for a stock nandroid backup to be posted.

Any luck? There are a few people over on the dev board stating future updates may not work without some of the bloatware crap (per their experience on a MT3G), so I'd like to know how you pulled this off if I have to go that route in the future.
You can try this to go back to complete stock.

Thats exactly what I ended up doing. I was running 2.2.1 and had the phone rooted and was able to restore it to stock 2.2.
Worked great, Thanks!
Can someone post the swype apk from this rom? I backed it up in titanium, but it won't restore

[Q] Newbie needs help

Hey guys/gals,
My name is Rick. Im an old guy that works as a teacher in a highschool. I dont have much experience and created a problem on my droid.
I have a rooted droid X running 2.2.1
I recently changed from APEX 1.3 to Liberty v.1.0 this was very smooth and I really like the versitility of the liberty Mod. The little I know about it. haha.
Problem started when my 16 gig SD card bacame full. I transferred it from my original Droid. so it was already half full. Before heading to the Patriots game I decided to delete some APKs. I was sure to delete the older one before new phone. haha.
Since then... Cant load into bootstrapper, rom manager will open but no access to bootloader, Titanium back up wont work, NO SUPER USER privilages...
I tried to re install all the above and nothing works. The phone is funtional. but not able to back up or get into backup.
How screwed am I?
Rick
Thank you in advance for any help you may offer.
Z4root.apk for SU. Hopefully you've got a nandroid backup. Flash back to apex or what ever backup you have. Clean up Titanium Backup with a new busybox. Backup apps Verify apps. Flash back to liberty. Restore apps. Of course there's always sbf so you're never really screwed...
DroidX x2, Droid2, Droid1, DInc, and LG Ally x2 makes for a big Verizon bill.
Bad droid, no Doughnut!
Things I would TRY. Can't say for sure they'd work, but worth a try:
Try to unroot/root again with z4.
Open titanium and click the problems button and let it update busybox.
Boot to stock recovery, wipe data, cache, reboot.
Try to unroot and reroot manually with the terminal emulator methods in this forum http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-x-hacks/99958-rooolers-guide-root-backup-roms-2-2-ota.html.
Try to update superuser.apk from the market.
Set up SDK on your pc and manually unroot/reroot with adb commands.
If all else fails, SBF, root and restore a backup (or just flash to Liberty and set up again).
One of those will work. I'm just curious, did you do a batch restore with Titanium?

Does KA7 Wipe your phone?

I am new to roms, and i know a lot of the custom ones will wipe your phone. I have done updates with Rom Manager but they were samsung updates and now i want to install KA7 (deodexed) to get the latest update, Kies fails for me.
Will KA7 (deodexed) wipe your phone, get rid of the apps or is it an update. I read all 13 pages of the thread but they dont mention it. Most likely everyone knows the answer but me. I cant post there too new
Most devs' that release entire rom suites have the flashable .zip wipe when you install it.
The only non wiping ROM I currently am aware of is Bionix-V which offers updates to those coming from a previous build.
However, with the ease at which backups can be made, wiping is always a safe bet.

Cool, i found the newbie root/rom guide and have been following that, I was just going to plan for the worse and and restore if needed. Wonder why its not sticky??
Already have a rom manager backup, contacts backed up with Tmoblie app, pics off loaded and Titanium backup is backing up my apps and setting right now 69%. So i guess that means i can restore what i need to after flashing. Cant wait to have some fun!
BTW, I may just be paranoid, but I save a copy of my Titanium backup folder on my external sd and then remove it before flashing. It is extremely rare for a ROM flash to wipe your internal sd and even more rare to mess with your external, but it has happened. Better safe than sorry IMO.
Yeah, everything is copied to my laptop!
Flashed completed!
Using Titanium to restore apps, 108 ar, wish i could auto accept all the installs
The pro version of titanium allows one click restore. Well worth the investment.

[Q] Best way to remove sprint bloatware after root

Trying to help out a friend with an EVO... TIA
Install custom rom?
I used Absolute System Root Tools. Ive removed everything that I dont use that came on the phone. Works great. Can also flash boot screens and flash your system font. Note: The phone MUST be rooted to remove system apps.

I use 'root manager', it allows you to make backups and remove and restore any system apps
Titanium backup. Also, a lot of custom ROMs come with a lot of crap removed.

Firmware Backup for UNrooted phones

Is it possible to backup the entire phone (dont care about the data) on phones that arent rooted?
The apps I've seen (titanium looking best) all require root.
thanks
I am pretty sure that you can through kies for somethings. Also an app called app brain can sync your apps to a web based database so in the event of a factory wipe you restore apps.

I have been using Astro file manager to back up my apps. Data though is not saved. No root is required
but what about backing up firmware?
Backing up files no problem.
Backing up apps, Google does that automatically if I'm not mistaken.
The problem I have is closer to the OP's post: I want to root my new phone, but need to back it up ENTIRELY before doing something as awful as rooting it it
Titanium backup (indeed looks like the best) and other similar whole-phone backup apps all need root ! But I need to backup before rooting !
Is there an app we can use to back up an unrooted phone, OR is there a way to use Titanium backup on an unrooted phone?
Using Sony Ericsson Xperia Pro MK16a Android 2.3.3
ps lurk skywalker tell me if you have found a solution since you've posted your question
Not entirely necessary to backup before rooting. If you are just flashing a stock kernel with root, as long as you do it correctly, nothing bad will happen.
I only do a backup before flashing ROMs as I always do a full wipe procedure first. The kernel I currently use has a built in total clean wipe, but I can do it the manual way rather quickly and prefer it.
Edit : I just saw you are using a sony, I know nothing about them, this is a Samsung forum.
