Which custom kernal compatible w/ JI2? - Vibrant General

Hey guys... I am getting ready to flash the JI2 modem (to fix my gps issues from what I read), but I was also wanting to flash a custom kernel to speed my system up and get rid of lag. I was thinking about flashing this kernel ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=787410 ) but have read where it bricked some phones, others didn't have a problem. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what custom kernel would work with the JI2? I will also need it to be compatible with what I am running... please advise on what you have had success with!

Stock ROM Custom Kernel

I've been searching the forums to see if there is a custom kernel that you can flash over the stock rom. My friend did this to his motorola droid so that he could overclock the processor, so I assume someone has developed a similar kernel for the hero. Is this possible/does this kernel exist? I am aware that there are custom roms that allow for overlocking, but all I really want is a custom kernel.
Pick any kernel you want as far as I understand it. Of course, make a Nandroid first, then flash the new kernel. If you have any major problems with it, you can just restore the Nandroid, which will return you back to the stock kernel. I am about to embark on this same journey myself tonight. I'm going to use this one here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=705074 . Good luck to you in your endeavors.

[Q] DK17 Rom?

Hello all,
Is there any word on when the full dk17 rom might be posted or what kinds of features/improvements it might have over dk05? I'm not trying to complain or be impatient, I was just wondering if someone had any info they'd like to share.
BTW, I've been running the stock DK05 rom/modem with the dk17 kernel since yesterday and haven't had a single FC
Thanks!
I guess I'm about to find out for myself about dk17.

Black screen and lag on i9000 2.2

Hi guys,
I am new to android world n amature in doing techy things on my mobile. I have updated my os from 2.1 to 2.2 via kies.
I get lag n black screens on my usage. Can anyone help me?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
i laso get some lag end som blackscreens
but i have already done the lagfix.
but i have the brazilian version, also with 2.2 with
baseband i900bvjjpd
kernel 2.6.32.9 [email protected]_lation #3
dunoo if its maybe an app, but i have watchdog and there are no apps misbehaving :/
first of all i think your both in the wrong thread lol, wont get noticed much in this section.......... but anyway
Are you using 2.2 or 2.2.1 ?? there are alot of fixes in the 2.2.1 and is a lot quicker for a stock ROM.
if you wanted even more speed you could go for a custom ROM there is loads to chose from.... but it can get a bit technical so if your unsure DONT DO IT !!!
There are a few things to consider:
- as stated above, you should make sure you get the latest, because 2.2.1 should be available (even officially) pretty much everywhere
- after flashing a factory reset is recommended to get the best performance (do a backup before so you can restore anything)
- there are better kernels out there that can speed up things and make your experience smoother (speedmod, voodoo, tegrak, etc)
- there are custom roms out there that are junk free and should provide a richer better experience.
Hi,
I know my question may be weired to some of experience people out here.
but i am really confused
What is difference between linux kernal update and flashing rom.
how to update kernel on my samsung galaxy s (I9000 2.2 default by samsung)
Thanks
Kernels and ROMs go hand it hand, it pointless getting a custom ROM and keeping stock Kernel. or vice versa
if you look it the development section and look for kernels (speedmod, Voodoo ect) there is a detailed step by step guide to installing them, and what benefits they have... it will make more sense for you to read through it all, than it would for us to try break it down into simple terms

Give me some advice - Which kernel should I use in my situation.

Hello XDA,
I recently acquired a Samsung Telus T959D Fascinate and have anxiously waiting for a ICS release.
In order to use ]teamhacksung's ICS Port for Galaxy S (BUILD 9) for my fascinate, I used >>This Thread<< to flash a i9000 kernel to use the ROM.
Now I am confused a bit. I've done some research on XDA and google, but for some reason can't get a straight answer on what to do in order to flash back a regular Samsung Fascinate ROM, such as CM7.1. I want to flash back, but I don't know which kernel to use because I am currently using the i9000 kernel.
I could flash one by Glitch and try CM7.1 from there, but I'm not sure what the voodoo lagfix option is and why it would brick my phone.
If any of you could recommend a kernel to flash to use regular Fascinate ROMs, and a kernel to use for i9000 ROMs, it would be greatly appreciated
Telus fascinate roms are not compatible with verizon fascinates and vice versa. I would use glitch v13 for telus and whatever aosp rom of your choice thats compatible. Search function is your best friend lol.

Real quick issue with a kernel

Real quick issue: I have an ATT Atrix 4G rooted and unlocked, want to flash custom kernel, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1156040 However, I'm on gingerbread with a different kernel to the one that the forum thinks gingerbread should have. Is it safe to flash this different version kernel onto an older version (stock version)
Thanks
I just wanted to say that updating the kernel did not break it or anything, in case anyone else wondered....
