[Q] Anyone have good SBF instructions? - Droid X General

I downloaded all the proper SBF files (VRZ_MB810_2.3.15_1FF_01.sbf) and RSD Lite the drivers updated and when I go to bootloader and hook up my USB it does not show the "connected" status in RSD lite. Tried to reinstall and everything. Any thoughts or tips? I would like to get the latest update. I was rooted with Z4, but I unrooted and tried to attempt this. Please help.
Thanks.

Did you change the settings to media connection and enable usb debugging?

Yes usher debugging on and I tried all of the selections.

I would highly recommend using linux to sbf as you don't have to worry about getting the correct drivers. Instructions are at rootzwiki.com. I just did this 2 days ago to get the OTA and it was very painless.

I ran into the same issue, but realized that people were using mixed terminology for two different things. Make sure that you're powering on the phone by pressing Power, Volume Down, and Camera buttons at the same time, and then wait a second or two, and release them. Then you should have some white, DOS like text show up on the screen. If you're doing the Power + Home button and pressing search button to bring up a blue text screen, that's not the right procedure for SBF. Hopefully that's all it is.

Are you using RSD Lite 4.8 or above? Try rebooting your phone and your PC. If that doesn't work, try another USB port and/or cable.

Download RSDlite 4.8
Download the latest SBF
Switch your device to PC mode
Turn on debugging mode (settings>applications>development>debugging mode)
Launch RSDLite (make sure device appears in window)
Select SBF (make sure it's the .sbf and not the .zip you downloaded)
Click Start
Device will switch to bootloader and begin the flashing process and will reboot when it is complete. RSDlite will say PASS.

One thing that most people forget to include in posting sbf/rdslite instructions is that you NEED the Droid X USB drivers installed. Get it from Motorola here and your phone will then show up in RDSLite.

Yep this is exactly what I did. RSDlite does not recognize my phone. I am using Rsdlite 4.8 also.

Just tried another different computer and its working. Very odd. Well anyway I hope to report back that everything went good. I will let you know.

Make sure you have the Moto drivers installed.

All is good. Got it to work and it worked flawlessly.

[Q] rsd lite will not recognize device

So i have all of the correct drivers installed, latest version of rsd lite, correct cable, even tried running the fastboot from android sdk. Still rsd lite wont recognize the phone. My computer recognizes it, so i dont know what to do... Please help!
[EDIT] I got the computer to recognize it, but it doesn't say xt907, it only says "fastboot" under model.
Should I just try to start rsd?
[Edit] problem solved everything is back to working

HELP Possible BRICKED

I have the Droid Razr M Verizon but not the developers version.
Ap Fasboot Screen it says

I had safestrap installed as well.
I decided to backup stock. So i could install Energy Rom on Stock Slot!
I then Wiped Factory/Cache/davlick on stock slot Because i was going to restore Then my phone restarted!
I realizes that safestrap will no longer work I can acess AP Fastboot but Rsd Lite 6.14 and 5.7 will not recognizable my device.
I am Running Window 8 64-bit. When I connect my device in the Devices and Printer section it says Fastboot SMQ S
I have tried 3 different Cables
My Phone will charge!
I am willing to go without RSD Lite and do normal/old school CMD Fastboot
Could anyone Help me!!!
I wondered the same thing, but I made sure to ask first (I guess you confirmed what they said).
see the link below:

a hard factory rest could help, but not sure.
also, reading from your steps, it looks like you did a factory rest AFTER installing the ROM? that could be the problem.
I recently did the same exact thing, using the same exact ROM, and encountered the same exact problems. I used RSDlite 6.1.4, but it was on a Windows 7 machine. Do you have access to a Windows 7 computer? I'm not sure if that would be the issue. Also, did you enter the fastboot screen and then connect your cable?
When you connect the phone and are in RSD, does it still show that something is connected? I had to restore my phone and I used RSD 6.14. The phone name would not show up in RSD, but it still showed that a device was connected. I just pushed the files and it worked.
RSDlite
Try reinstalling the latest version of RSDlite. I had to on my windows 7 machine and then it worked. Also make sure the phone is in fast boot mode. Hold power + both volume buttons for 10 seconds to get there.
Check this out if you are still having issues...

Fixed i'm so happy
So I was able to fix my razr m.
I am running windows 8 on my main laptop and for some odd reason ADB won't work at all tried all combination to try to get it working but it wouldn', However ADB worked the first time on my secondary laptop running windows 7.
All i did was you RSD Lite 6.14 and pushed the stock rom to my droid razr m and i was back in business. I am now rooted and have safestrap installed again.
Reminder IF ANYTHING IN SAFESTRAP HAS RED TEXT DON'T TOUCH IT, THIS JUST MEANS THAT IF YOU TOUCH IT THEN SAFESTAP WILL EITHER BE DAMAGED OR DELETED. I WAS STUPID ENOUGH TO TOUCH IT.

I have the same problem. :crying:
I tried to update to CM10.2 and made some mistake. After several trials and hard reserts I am only able to enter boot menu with POWER On und VOL UP. If I connect cableto phone, this recgnises it as cnnected, but RDS does not see my phone and I can not flash. I am also on WIN 8.1.
Try to launch RDS as administrator, it may help you.

What does your bootloader says? It should look like this:
Code:
Bootloader
09.10
Battery OK
OK to Program
Connect USB
Data Cable
Then after plug USB, Windows should recognize your Defy. If not, there should be problem with your drivers.
To enter bootloader, turn your phone off, press power on for a sec with Vol+ (don't release Vol+) then after 5seconds press power again.

I have the same behavior
I tried once more adviced process and now I could repair my phone!
It is definitely needed not only to run Windows as user with administrator rights, but also to set the aplication RST to run as administrator, as adviced in this thread. This can by made with right click on shortcut of RST Lite - select Options - Compatibility - and check Run aplication as administrator.
The description of steps to set must not be 100% correct, I am using another language version of windows.
But, the process worked now for me!
Thanks to everybody who helped and adviced us!
Now I am running stock Froyo 2.2 CEE and want to use Cyanogenmod 10.2
I can not start bootloader with custom recovery when pressing PWR and VOL- anymore. How should I proceed?

To enter custom recovery, turn your phone on, and when blue led appears (around motorola logo), press vol- once.

Have you installed 2ndinit and the recovery? Download this - http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1022582&d=1335285945, install it on your phone and open the app. Then press the "install bootmenu" button. Reboot, and when you get blue LED, immediately press volume down.
I assume you have rooted your phone.

It seems that you don't have custom recovery installed and this is a stock one. To flash any custom rom, you have to root and install a custom recovery first. Root eg. with SuperOneClick, install and open 2nd init, then enter 2nd init recovery (VOL DOWN on blue LED) and install TWRP revocery package. TWRP is needed for new roms.
SOLVED!

Windows XP has a different approach to running applications.
Since windows Vista was released, MS changed the policy of how apps run.
For apps that access crucial resources need Administrator rights(similar to root permissions). RSD Lite is one such application so it requires to run as admin.

Are you able to enter bootloader mode on your phone? (Power on while holding the "volume up" button. If that doesn't work, try pulling the battery and re-inserting it while holding the power and volume up buttons.) Then try connecting to RSD Lite.
If all else fails, you could try using the sbf_flash tool in a linux environment. See here and here for guides.
If you don't have a computer with Linux, you can run it from a usb thumb drive with this. If you haven't used linux before, Ubuntu is probably easiest to use.
i am able to enter to bootloader mode but the phone is been detected as UNKNOWN DEVICE...

That's strange. Does the Bootloader screen say "Battery OK, OK to program, Connect USB Data Cable"? Do you see anything else in RSD Lite besides "Unknown Device"?
You could try using USBDeview on your PC to try to figure out what sort of device your PC thinks your phone is. If the phone is in bootloader mode connected properly, you should see "Motorola Flash Interface" listed under the connected devices, and if you double-click on it, you'll see more information that might help with troubleshooting. What driver version do you see there?
I've attached a screenshot so you can see what it's supposed to look like.

Ok, what do you see in USBDeview?
Try in another pc or in a virtual machine of Windows XP, or check in which usb port you're plugging on the cable, in my computer with Windows 8 for example, I have 4 ports on the back of the cpu and 2 on the front, the front ones don't work to use RDSLite but they work for mass storage and debugging without any problems, but for RDSLite I have to use the back ports

That's not good. If your phone is going into bootloader mode but USBDeview isn't picking up any signal from the USB, it may be a hardware problem. How did your phone get bricked? Was its USB port working properly before that?

Hmm, the safewipe script isn't supposed to touch the recovery partition. Can you get into stock recovery? (Take the battery out, then put it back in while holding the volume down and power buttons at the same time.) If you can get into the stock recovery, do a full factory reset, then try flashing an sbf again.

Rsd lite does not detect my device

ok so im on kitkat with root and unlocked BL. i have to get back to JB because i want to install a custom rom which runs on JB bootloader.
The problem: The problem is that RSD LITE does not detect my device. i successfully installed all the drivers turned on USB DEBUGGING and everything is working great even my device shows up in ADB when i type adb devices the serial number of my razr m comes so adb is perfectly working. but RSD LITE does not detect my phone as i have to flash JB in order to install the custom rom. i installed drivers rebooted my pc did everything still no success. anyone who is willing to help me will be really appreciated. also i have checked several times. however i noticed someting in the windows device manger theres an unknown device detected under other devices. but my phone is transfering data perfectly and adb seems to be working.
NOTE: my cable is 100% fine as i rooted many phones with this and ran commands such as flash recovery etc so my cable is 100% perfect please dont tell me to change the cable
Thanks , Peace.

OKAY SO FINALLY my device is coming up in rsd lite. there is a trick to do it. ADB INTERFACE driver is must as i saw that ADB INTERFACE installed in my pc when i plugged the phone in. and then i rebooted to to fastboot and yes RSD LITE shows a device connected in AP FASTBOOT .
THE NEXT THING IM IN STUCK IS: RSD LITE says that XML file is either broken etc. i have replaced the xml file did everything and still RSD LITE says its broken. Please help.
OKAY SO I SOLVED THE ISSUE BY DOWNLOADING A FRESH COPY OF THE XML/SBF because mine was corrupted. it was missing a little file, thats why RSD LITE was saying its broken.
