[Q] Contacts with postal code instead of zip? - Vibrant General

I use an unlocked Vibrant up here in Canada and having a numeric only field for the zip code doesn't help me when we use postal codes.
Does anyone have a hacked up contacts app that removes this restriction? Or an app from a different localization that allows postal codes? UK maybe? I'm not sure if taking the froyo contacts app from the Bell Vibrant I9000/Rogers Captivate SGH-i896/Telus Fascinate T959 (why the hell did they have to swap names, why couldn't they just make up new ones?) would work. If that would solve my problem that's great. I would just need to find it.
Which is these would have the restriction in them (if not all)? Would I need to replace all 3?
Contacts.apk
ContactsProvider.apk
GoogleContactsSyncAdapter.apk
Thanks.

I've noticed that on my phone all my contacts sync'd from Google have the entire address is in <Street> field. The <City>, <State> & <Zip code> fields are all blank. Maybe you should do the same.

Yeah, that was the first thing I tried, however it's not much of a fix. I can type the postal code in beside the province on my phone if I wanted to- but I would much rather populate a postal code field.

(SIM) Contacts Irritation

I have copied my phone number onto my sim from my old phone and imported to contact.
Irrittatingly the HD2 sees the names backwards and only searches for the "first" name [there are lots of "name_mobile" and hence now I have to search for "mobile"]
Anyway to select the order of names or will i have to edit about 180 contacts?
there is a cab that when run reverses the names. I'll try and attach it but if I cant, look for "contact changer first last"
if you add new contacts after using it don't forget to select display first last out they will be wrong.(course you can run the changer prog again to fix it)
this is not my handiwork but sadly I can't remember who to credit.
Mates Mate.
Useful to have
Sadly I don't think that will fix it.
I looked at a few contacts. They were imported to my [still waiting to be active!] sim from my current phone (SE K800i) and then from sim to HD2
Sadly "John Smith" as a saved mobile number is identified in Contacts as:
Forename - blank
Surname Smith; John/2 [I assume the /2 is a code assigned by the SE to differentiate between mobile/home/work/business category symbols].
It is a PITA that I might have to edit all of them by hand.
They are all nicely ordered in Outlook in a subfolder from Contacts Called "Mobile Contacts" but I can't get ActiveSynch to synch with anything but the main contacts folder [The SE Software did allow this easily]

XEU Unbranded UK? Please read.

If you have an unbranded UK spec SGS with the XEU product code and have updated it to the new firmware Android 2.2 (FROYO) can you please do a check for us and post it here.
Go to contacts and create a new contact then scroll down to the post code part of the address input field. Can you put a post code in? (Alpha/numeric) or is it a ZIP code (Numeric only).
Thanks.
No UK postcode :-(
Upgraded last night and just checked - unable to enter letters!
Not impressed with the lag running K9 and other things, though. JM1 with OCLF was much better!

I should have said those who did not upgrade using the Nordic JPM.
XEU phone - also unable to enter postcode details in contacts.
Yeah, seems it's not a nordic issue. If you check the official bugs thread, people who never had nordic get numeric zip codes only. So I think my *# to get back to xeu may well have worked, and what we're all seeing is a JPO bug
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Using the leaked JPO here - not accepting UK postcodes.
Hi,
Upgraded to official 2.2 via Kies this morning using unlocked / unbranded SGS. Can confirm the Zip code only. Just checked and field says "zip code" and is numeric only.
Cheers,
On CPW unbranded with JPO here and also unable to enter Post codes, numeric only
(Not that it matters for me really, never fill out that much info in contacts)
You can edit the contact details in your online (google) address book to include a postal address. When your phone syncs the contacts with your google account, the correct details are transferred to the phone.
I just tried it and it works like a charm
Failing that, you can just put the whole address in the "Street" field. When it's displayed on your phone contacts list it will only show fields that contain data, so it looks fine.

I am aware of this it also does this from my Outlook but. If you want to Navigate to a contact address you really do need the post code for accuracy. The field is there for a reason and this is just one of them.
Understood.
For me personally, it's a workaround that gives me nice looking, synchronisable addresses in the meantime.
I can see how it would be useless if you wanted to search by postcode or something

I appreciate that but, following on from Pete's workaround via gmail/synch, once the contact is on the phone
with the full address it is immediately viewable in Google Maps with options for directions and navigation.
A workaround yes, but one that works thankfully.

Workarounds are only employed when there is a major flaw in software and that is what this is. Perhaps it is a product of the American-centric nature of Android and that continent's dominance of the "smartphone revolution" but it is still a disgrace and for Samsung to have allowed it to slip out into general release after such a prolonged period of testing is nothing less than incompetence on the part of their project managers.

Unbranded UK spec SGS with the XEU product code - Zip codes only, no Alpha/Numeric
Do Samsung have a site that we can report bugs? or are we just relying on them reading this forum?
I wonder if the Galaxy Tab, which was released running FROYO, has the postcode bug?

UK XXJPO zip code addresses only wth?

Well done Samsung, people in the UK still cant actually store any actual UK postal addresses in their contacts as there is only a zip code field that refuses alpha characters
If you use google to synch your contacts (and as a free backup as well) - editing the contacts on your gmail account and then synching them will give you a full UK address.
Not ideal to do it that way, but it is an option.

[Q] Change Live ID or Zune Region

Hi all,
I have successfully activated WP7 on the HD2, but I made a critical mistake:
When I created my Zune account, you have to fill in your country/region. I filled in the Netherlands. But if you don't fill in a supported country here, Marketplace won't work, because you CANNOT change the country of your ZUNE account.
You can change the country of your live/hotmail account, but that won't help (and you will get an error in zune).
My question now: Is there any way to change my Zune-account/create a new Zune account on the same Live ID?
If not, when I hard-reset my phone to connect it to another live ID, do I have to call MS again for an activation code?
Same problem here. I think I tried just about everything.
I think the only solution is to hardreset the phone and setup a whole new live-account and call again with microsoft for the activation code on the new live-account
If there's anyway to solve it, please share it
I think you can revoke your Live ID from your phone on your Windows Phone page (on this one you can make ring your phone, erase your data or even block the phone). I don't know the URL but I got the page navigating Parameters>Locate my phone menu
Let's give it a try
I've done a reset of the phone and connected with a brand new live-id. I called Microsoft to get a new key, but without succes. The guy told me I had to go to HTC. This morning a lady helped me very well.
So I tried the key i got this morning, it worked perfect! Only problem of course is that i have multiple e-mail acounts on my phone. I'm not really sure how the connection with SkyDrive is, but I think I'll have to upload my photos to my new live-id.
Do you guys think MS will just give us a new activation code if we just tell the (partial) truth? So saying we want to change our Live-ID on WP7?
Because this issue is not limited to HD2-users, but also to "normal" WP7 users that want to use the market in countries without support.
You don't need a new activation code. A single code will work fine for multiple activations.

I think the URL is windowsphone.live.com, but I can't revoke my ID there. It still won't solve my problems if I could, because I want to revoke my ZUNE ID, so I can set it up again...

Even with a different Live ID? And within 30 days?
Ok guys, I can confirm it works!
What I did:
1. hard reset the phone
2. create a new Windows Live ID, based in the USA.
3. connect the new ID to Zune, say you are in the USA.
4. set up the phone, without windows live, but with another email adress
5. do the whole unlock-thingy including the registry change to HD7
6. Activate your phone with the new live ID and the old activation code.
Result: a fully functional WP7 phone.

That's the easy part. Now try to connect your non-US credit card with your account. You can't.
Or somebody found a solution to that?

If you have an European Credit card, create a UK-based live-ID instead of an US. The Credit Card should work, just make sure you use an existing address (they will never send mail, so just pick one).
Nice, but I already have US account. Changing it to UK seems to be impossible. Screw that multiple accounts. I dont wanna buy apps with dummy fake account since there is no way how to transfer these apps to my regular account (which I use for everything actually - mail, contacts, calendar) later.

Nope. It won't work unless the billing adress of your credit card is in the UK. But then again you would have a UK credit card
That's right. I've tried to register 3 different cards (2 VISAs and one MasterCard) and none of them is accepted not only in US, but also in UK. I even bought a VPN access to have an IP as coming from US, but no luck

Hard reset or only flash new/same wp7 rom?
By 'hard reset' is mean 'reflash the rom' right?

yes, you can do it on 2 ways,
1. go to settings -> about -> reset your phone
2. reflash the rom using MAGDLR etc.
both have the same effect.
Guys, if you know, if I delete my microsoft live account and then make the same one, with the same address (I am using a google account), will I have to ask for a new activation code from microsoft or can I use the one they sent me in the first place?
thank you
You try :
1. Install Registry editor
2. Modify any key :
- [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\ActiveSync\Partners\{B2830 118-7BC6-4A74-8C9A-3D8B9CEF88E0}]
"Email"=new your email([email protected] or [email protected])
"User"=new your email
- [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\IdentityCRL\Environment\Production]
"DefaultID"=new your email
3. Restart your phone.
4. access setting->email+accounts-> tap to new Windows Live ID -> tap to password -> typing newpassword -> Sign in.

From my experience, the activation code is tied to the device, not your Live ID. I have hard reset my HD2 multiple times and re-activated using the same code for three different Live IDs. I was using a US-based Live ID, then my son used my HD2 with his Live ID for a while, and now I have it back and am happlity using my Australian Live ID - all with the same activation code.

You are not the only one with the issue. All of Cyanogen's ROM are AOSP (android open source project). They do not have this feature. That is a feature added to the MySense that T-Mo bloats this phone with.
There is really nothing you can do unless you mind using a MySense based ROM.
wait...so how do all these people add the contacts back on their phones....I dont understand...there must be an easy way.

most, if not all, of our contacts on on our Google account. and when we log into the google account [on the phone] it automatically pushes the contacts that are on our account to the phone.
it's a "no touch" method. We just log in and Google takes care of the rest.
If it is possible to extract the contacts from the t-mo website as a .cvs file you may be able to bulk import them to your google account but i dunno. I used Google Sync on my blackberry prior to owning an Android so i never had that problem.
I went to tmobile site and from what I see there is no cvs...but I could be wrong. Aside from that...how can I get my contacts back to the phone...?

here is a way to export to csv...dont know how well it works...
http://yincrash.livejournal.com/188605.html
I just used the UiA Backup Contacts app from the market on my wifes phone, and imported the csv output into her Google account...
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
This is hopeless....I cant believe what a problem this is turning into. I might be able togo back to the Ice rom and get my contacts but the problem Im have then is...I cant get the contacts to sync with google.
Meaning....for example...I have my wifes phone, which is not flashed yet so as a practice run, I tried to sync her contacts to gmail/google and it will not take...if I can get this to work, they I might be able to fix this.
Any ideas on getting atleast my wifes phone to sync with google?
This is a pain to do, but it may help...
You can print your T-mo contacts from the T-mo website. If you install a pdf printer driver (neevia docuprinter), you can print the contacts to pdf. You can then select the data on the pdf, and cut and paste into a csv, and import into your Google contacts.
You will only get the basic information, like name, cell number, email, etc...
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
First thing I did when I got this phone was disabled tmo sync so all my numbers default to google. Sorry, man. I feel your pain. You sure there's no way to export contacts from the tmo website? I bet there is.
Sent from my HTC Glacier
If we did bet you would have lost...Lol, here is the problem
I spent about 1 hour on the phone with a tmobile smart phone tech...we both logged into my tmobile acct and looked at the contacts, which were about 250. He was shocked...as was I, that there was NO export...only import. We both dont understand why they would make it this way but its dumb.
ok...so he had me do one method which didnt work well but I will post it here, maybe someone might be able to fine tune it.
So, the tech had me goto my "manage contacts" page. Then look for an option to print, once that window opens you hold down ctrl+A...this will highlight all your contacts. The right click and copy.
Next, open up excel and paste into the first column "A1". Then you have to adjust each column just a little to make the names and numbers fit.
Next, you goto save as, and choose "CSV (Comma delimited) (*.csv)"
Next you goto gmail and choose import and browse to the file you just created. This will add all your contacts however here comes the part, maybe someone else can figure how to fix...when you import the contacts, it doesnt put the numbers in the right spot...it puts them in the "Notes" section.
So you would then have to goto each name and copy and paste into the correct section...yes I know thats alot of work, but it beats entering in each number by hand.
Also, I'm not some tech...Im still new and make no claim to be smart with this...so save the put down remarks.
The other option which I did...was I just flashed back to my first rom "Ice"...then I Exported contacts to SD card...next you flash the rom you want...go thru the steps the guides tell you, when done, setup google and sync...this will add all contacts.
*** Make sure thu, that when you add NEW contacts to your phone that you create under the google acct. Meaning, when you open up the new contact window, you add the name of person and then (depending on custom rom) you can choose to create under tmobile or google...you want to choose google.
And thats it...
