XEU Unbranded UK? Please read. - Galaxy S I9000 General

If you have an unbranded UK spec SGS with the XEU product code and have updated it to the new firmware Android 2.2 (FROYO) can you please do a check for us and post it here.
Go to contacts and create a new contact then scroll down to the post code part of the address input field. Can you put a post code in? (Alpha/numeric) or is it a ZIP code (Numeric only).
Thanks.

No UK postcode :-(
Upgraded last night and just checked - unable to enter letters!
Not impressed with the lag running K9 and other things, though. JM1 with OCLF was much better!

I should have said those who did not upgrade using the Nordic JPM.

XEU phone - also unable to enter postcode details in contacts.

Yeah, seems it's not a nordic issue. If you check the official bugs thread, people who never had nordic get numeric zip codes only. So I think my *# to get back to xeu may well have worked, and what we're all seeing is a JPO bug
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App

Using the leaked JPO here - not accepting UK postcodes.

Hi,
Upgraded to official 2.2 via Kies this morning using unlocked / unbranded SGS. Can confirm the Zip code only. Just checked and field says "zip code" and is numeric only.
Cheers,

On CPW unbranded with JPO here and also unable to enter Post codes, numeric only
(Not that it matters for me really, never fill out that much info in contacts)

You can edit the contact details in your online (google) address book to include a postal address. When your phone syncs the contacts with your google account, the correct details are transferred to the phone.
I just tried it and it works like a charm
Failing that, you can just put the whole address in the "Street" field. When it's displayed on your phone contacts list it will only show fields that contain data, so it looks fine.

I am aware of this it also does this from my Outlook but. If you want to Navigate to a contact address you really do need the post code for accuracy. The field is there for a reason and this is just one of them.

Understood.
For me personally, it's a workaround that gives me nice looking, synchronisable addresses in the meantime.
I can see how it would be useless if you wanted to search by postcode or something

I appreciate that but, following on from Pete's workaround via gmail/synch, once the contact is on the phone
with the full address it is immediately viewable in Google Maps with options for directions and navigation.
A workaround yes, but one that works thankfully.

Workarounds are only employed when there is a major flaw in software and that is what this is. Perhaps it is a product of the American-centric nature of Android and that continent's dominance of the "smartphone revolution" but it is still a disgrace and for Samsung to have allowed it to slip out into general release after such a prolonged period of testing is nothing less than incompetence on the part of their project managers.

Unbranded UK spec SGS with the XEU product code - Zip codes only, no Alpha/Numeric
Do Samsung have a site that we can report bugs? or are we just relying on them reading this forum?

I wonder if the Galaxy Tab, which was released running FROYO, has the postcode bug?

contact number style

I've imported contact from sim to the phone and the numbers are written in the correct way dor me(europe stile) +39333123456 like this.
But i add new contact i can only write in us style 012-0123-3256.
There's no solution for now?
There's a possibility to manage all the numbers on the pc and the syncronize with G1?
You should be able to log into your gmail account and look for the link that says "all contacts" from there you are able to edit all your contacts. The next time you sync the phone to the Gmail account it should fix the issue. It sucks having to go crazy like that but there is the way I would try it.
I'm unfortunately having issues right now. My phone hasn't been able to sync to my Gmail contacts for 4 days now.
If you flash your G1 to the UK firmware, you will get your phone numbers in the correct europe format.
I will do this as soon as I get mine
Tomorrow or the day after tomorrow

If you succeed, please tell me how to flash the uk version on a us phone. I suppose you 'll need root access for that? (I hope someone jailbreaks RC30 OTA).

Japan - Mixi Registration

This isn't really HD2 specific but, it's the phone that I'm using so I'm putting the thread here.
I'm trying to register on Mixi. The process starts with registering and confirming a "PC" e-mail (In my case, a g-mail account). Then, filling out personal particulars etc. etc. Finally, they ask you to put in your Japanese e-mail/phone-mail/MMS-mail account to which they send a confirmation message. I get this with no problems (many thanks again to BeeGee for helping this be possible) but, when I click the link in the message I get an error message saying there was a problem with a link to the tune of "use this link if you're on a PC".
I suspect that the problem is that the phone connects to the link like a PC rather than a Japanese phone. So the site thinks that the phone is a PC.
Now, without this final step, I can't actually complete the registration process. I have heard of the .edu work-around and will resort to that if all else fails. But having a working phone-mail address I would like to be able to use that instead.

It might be that it is expected that the link is opened in one of the strange Softbank phone browsers. The type they have on their cheap phones.
What you can try is to check the settings of your browser and set it to mobile view.
This can be done in Opera under menu/settings/display.
In Internet Explorer you go to menu/Tools/Options/Other and select Mobile Device.
Third solution, put your SIM card into a Softbank phone (not WMobile), get the confirmation email there, click on the link and it will connect thru the phones browser.
Thanks for that!
Switching to mobile view didn't work in Opera or IE.
I really should have thought of that last option myself
Thanks again BeeGee!
excuse me,,
can you help me too ?

UK XXJPO zip code addresses only wth?

Well done Samsung, people in the UK still cant actually store any actual UK postal addresses in their contacts as there is only a zip code field that refuses alpha characters
If you use google to synch your contacts (and as a free backup as well) - editing the contacts on your gmail account and then synching them will give you a full UK address.
Not ideal to do it that way, but it is an option.

[Q] Contacts with postal code instead of zip?

I use an unlocked Vibrant up here in Canada and having a numeric only field for the zip code doesn't help me when we use postal codes.
Does anyone have a hacked up contacts app that removes this restriction? Or an app from a different localization that allows postal codes? UK maybe? I'm not sure if taking the froyo contacts app from the Bell Vibrant I9000/Rogers Captivate SGH-i896/Telus Fascinate T959 (why the hell did they have to swap names, why couldn't they just make up new ones?) would work. If that would solve my problem that's great. I would just need to find it.
Which is these would have the restriction in them (if not all)? Would I need to replace all 3?
Contacts.apk
ContactsProvider.apk
GoogleContactsSyncAdapter.apk
Thanks.
I've noticed that on my phone all my contacts sync'd from Google have the entire address is in <Street> field. The <City>, <State> & <Zip code> fields are all blank. Maybe you should do the same.
Yeah, that was the first thing I tried, however it's not much of a fix. I can type the postal code in beside the province on my phone if I wanted to- but I would much rather populate a postal code field.

How the heck do I change my windows live ID country?!

Ive had this hotmal account for over 9 years now, and I did not realise it has been set to USA (it was on that by default I think). Everything is linked to this account - my xbox account, my msn, my windows phone account, my zune hd account, my emails, my contacts etc... and its never been a problem.
My problem is when I was trying to buy an item in the Zune marketplace, it wouldn't let me put my credit card in because it can only be from USA, not Australia, which is where I live. Making a new account would absolutely be the worst thing I can think of and is an unacceptable solution from my point of view, this account has too much.
So how do I go about changing the account country from USA to Australia? Any help on this matter will be highly appreciated! Or am I screwed, or is there some workaround I can go with for the time being apart from hard resetting my phone. Would buying xbox live credit points from someone in the usa allow me to do the work around? I presume since I'm with an American account if I can fix that up, I can actually purchase music as well in Australia as well as games?
Thanks!
try http://account.live.com, changing your country
Yes, that's already set to Australia, but the billing account is set to usa. And stuck on.
Have you had your Nodo update? I thought I saw something in the changelist that applied to this?
Sent from my OMNIA7 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
You can't change it. This has always been a point of contention with passport services. Once your billing region is set on account creation it can never be changed again. Ever.
I have the exact same problem, Have had for years now with my xbox. You're only option is to create a new account.
I've contacted Microsoft before about this and you get spun some nonsense about it being "impossible" to change.
No no-do update for my omnia 7 yet.
And if I do have to create a new account, how the heck do I even sign out. If only there was a way to *fake* an American card via paypal or something. You know.. anything.
Unfortunately to remove the "Primary" account you have to factory reset the phone. As far as I know. It's because everything (xbox, zune, market place) is tied to it.
I don't think the country information is encoded in the card number http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Credit_card_numbers as credit cards like Visa and MasterCard are not a national card. My guess is they query a central database which has the country of issue. As such I think it's hard if not impossible to fake.
Hello,
Let me suggest you a little trick...
1. Go to support.xbox.com
2. Log in
3. Click on My Account (top right)
4. Right down, the very last option - Manage Account Region
5. There you can change your country to your desired one
I did work for me and I hope it will help you...
Best regards,
Arnie
Did you sort out the problem in some way??? I am interested because I didn't put CC information yet for the marketplace and my main hotmail account is a .com registered in 1998 and i'm in Italy I have another one (.it) but I did it just for paypal
I'm lucky - my Dutch credit card (Master) just worked
