[Q] HD2 keeps restarting on its own after months of Android builds - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Problem: After using the MDJ 1.1 Revolution build, my phone froze after watching a youtube clip (after about 1 hour of normal use). I waited a while to see if it would recover and it rebooted on it's own. Ever since then, while booting into Windows Mobile, it restarts during bootup. Sometimes It makes it into Windows Mobile, but it randomly restarts on it's own.
What i've tried:
- Formatting the SD Card as well as removing it before booting up.
- Taking out the SIM card before booting up.
- Ran a different android build, it booted up just fine, but restarted after less than 10 minutes.
What else should I try? I'm a bit afraid to move forward without suggestions since the phone seems to be unstable.
Random info:
- I have a t-mobile us phone
- HSPL installed
- Custom WinMo Installed, the one I choose months ago claimed to be very android friendly, for tmous and stable.
- I've had my HD2 on this custom WinMo rom for a few months now, I can't remember which rom it is, but it's never given me problems.
- I've been running Android builds on it since I first got it. I usually choose one compatible with tmous, format my sd card and install android via the sd card. I wait until that build fails with screen freezes, data drops, lag issues. Then I just move onto a different android build. I've gone up to two weeks with no issues at all once.

It might be a hardware issue. And not even connected to android.
I had had similar issues, and I had my phone serviced. They replaced my main board with a new one, and now everything works fine. I'm using android of course.

Try New Wm rom. my combo (in my sig) seem to be working with no issues atm

Can you suggest a WinRom for a tmous user? a more updated one perhaps (stable).

So my phone seemed pretty stable today for hours, so while the phone was on, I hooked it up to my pc via usb, bam green screen and then it restarted on its own.
It did this each time I connected it to the usb, I eventually got it to work without crashing.
So I installed the newest chucky rom I could find "ChuckyROM-23148-Tabtastic.Nov.21".
After about 15 minutes of the phone being on the new rom, completely being idle, it restarted.

told you its hardware, service it

Just got it back from HTC repair, it seems to be more stable now, but I was able to get it to restart on it's own with a green screen.
I just plugged the usb cable in, it synced with windows mobile. Left it alone for a while. Disconnected the cable, waited 10 seconds, reconnected it, crash.

HELP: android wont start up for some reason?

hey everyone
i tried searching the threads but i cant find anyone with my exact problem (or something similar at least).
anyways ive been running dutty's winmo rom, i have a proper .50 radio running, and i have been able to successfully boot into darkstones superram v1.5 for the past few weeks just fine.
one night i forgot to charge the battery so it drained out, in the morning i had to work and i needed a number which was on the android OS of the phone, so i immediately turned on the phone after starting to charge it and booted into android, the phone didnt have enough power though and shut off while it was checking the SD card for errors.
after this point, i started up the phone again after 2 minutes to give it some time to charge, and it was able to get into android, however on hte way to work i tried listening to music and/or getting pictures from my SD card (using astro to search the SD card) but when i clicked on a file everything force closed, the music player froze up everytime i tried to get music going, and things like the sound options in the android settings menu would force close as well.
i figured somethnig messed up on the SD card so i backed up some stuff and formatted the SD card, and reinstalled a fresh version of darkstones superram (new data.img and everything).
when i tried launching android it went to the green HTC screen for a few seconds, then the screen goes black and the phone restarts into winmo.
this kept happening so i figured maybe something went wrong with the windows mobile rom, so i installed an energy rom just now and hte same thing is still happening.
what im going to do today is try it on a different SD card to see if thats the problem, and try another SD android ROM to make sure.
but if anyone can save me some time and knows whats happening here please let me know!
any help is appriciated! thanks!

[Q] HD2 Android Keeps Crashing; help!

I've switched from windows to android for my htc hd2 and I've been experiencing a lot of freezing/hanging issues. I had no choice but to pull out my battery to restart my phone a lot of times.
Does anyone encounter the same problem after they change to android? Or is it like this? It's like, when i play a game, it'll hang sometimes. playing music halfway, it'd hang. or even using GPRS and it'll hang. =.= help!
btw, i'm using the SD builds. It doesn't really matter which sd builds cuz i tried quite a few and I'm still getting a lot of hangs randomly here and there.

Care to tell us more ?
Radio?
WM ROM ?
Android ROM version ?
Hi, I've been experiencing the same problems. I'm booting android through WM 6.5 through the SD card method. I've tried the AmericanAndroid (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=957652), a HTC sense ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=954030), a MIUI ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1058809) and Darkstone's superRAM froyo. They all tend to crash randomly after a while, and there's no way to solve the problem but pull out the battery... One reason suggested on the forums was that hot weather tends to make the HD2 overheat and crash, which makes some sense because I live in Singapore (that's tropical, btw). But my WM6.5 doesn't crash nearly as often...
O another thing: whenever I boot into android through SD, I tend to get high battery drains of about 60mA. One solution I've found was to shut down the phone, then hold the volume down button while booting in WM6.5. This brings me into a multi coloured screen (is it called the bootloader or something?), and I pull out the battery. After which I boot into WM6.5 normally and boot android from the SD card. That normally brings down the battery drain to about 10mA, but I'm not sure how this works/why it works that way/what side effects this may have... Besides this I follow all the standard procedures, so I'm not sure why android crashes on me so often...
Flash NAND Android ROM and all your troubles will disappear.
Please ensure rom you flashed is the appropriate one. Check ur devicd model, choose rom for ur device, read faq/explanation from chef who built thd rom. Check recovery partition required for your choosed rom. Yesss flash nand rom and flash into ur nand. If u prefer sd rom ensure ur sdcard is in good condition

hi,
1. try booting into WM6.5 stock rom, w/o any modifications. you should be able to download through the htc website
2. try using WM6.5 a while, see if it hangs/restarts itself. there shouldn't be the case if you're using stock rom.
3. if you still face the restarting/freezing problems even using stock WM6.5 rom. send your phone for servicing.
As my warranty was still valid, i sent my phone for servicing and they changed the whole motherboard of my HD2. Now my phone is running smoothly on both WM6.5 and Android.
The service that HTC offers in Singapore is quite good. You can call them to come to your house and collect the phone personally. If you need, you can ask for a loan phone. They'll repair and return your phone to your doorstep in about a week's time. I'm pretty happy with their efficient service Tell me which company will come and collect your phone at your doorstep and send it back to you when it's all good. Thumbs up all the way for them!
Hope this helps.
Thanks for the replies. I switched to NAND with hyperdroid by pongster, but the crashing persisted for a while. It seems that the connection between the SD card and the phone is the problem. There was once that I got ~60mA of battery drain, then I pulled out the SD card and the drain went down to ~10mA (I was running on NAND of course). I then went on to try a difference SD card (a 4GB sandisk), and the the HD2 stopped crashing. It has also never crashed with the SD card removed. Moral of the story: a very stable SD connection is essential if you want to use SD builds...

Phone Freezes/Issues

(T-Mo, American HD2) - Running Hyperdroid, HSPL (Idk what version), and Magldr 1.13, not sure what Radio.
It started out one or two freezes during operating use. I flashed to a new build and it is lightening fast. No overclocking, but there is a CPU throttler. It isn't set to pass 995 MHZ, though.
The problem is that it seems to always freeze when it gets hot (warm actually). I know that's normal but It seems lately the summer heat (even a little bit) will usually cause the phone to freeze. It isn't always the heat to blame, sometimes when playing legitimate games the phone will freeze, and it's not even hot. Same with listening to music. Also, running Edge (no 3G in this area apparently..) will cause it to freeze.
Now, here's the strange part. Only once or twice have I been able to do a soft reset/battery pull and have the phone start back up without freezing. It always seems to freeze on magldr after the "go go go!". Sometimes it will only display the header at the top and nothing. Sometimes it will vibrate 7 times on magldr with only the header displayed and then freeze. It only vibrates when it gets really hot. Often, it will make it to the Android home screen.. And then freeze when you try and do something. I do have that many apps running in the backround, nothing heavy either.
Is the phone bad? Or... Going bad? I'm going to try reflashing everything, going to a stock radio (which I've had updated for a while and never had a problem), and starting with a new android build, oh, and possibly formatting the sd card clean.
If anyone has any suggestions/input.. Let me know please. It's getting quite frustrating!!
Also, this is a nand build...
I recommend a clean flash without any cpu overclocking app - these just add power consumption and more heat - so format your sd card, task 29 the phone, add cwm clear out the cache on the phone flash a recent 50 radio then a clean rom
time will tell if its a hardware issue
That's what I was thinking about doing.. Just flashing EVERYTHING and starting fresh. I'm doing that right now, I'll post back here in a few days and see if anything helps..
Just out of curiosity, do you have any favorite NAND android builds? I always have the hardest time picking one out..
Ok, Update... I can't even get HSPL mode into USB. It's stuck in serial. I couldn't get the phone to go into usb storage mode before, either.... Even on different computers.
Nvm.. It was the usb cable!
OK.. Update #2. I'm trying to send over the ROM once I mount the SD card thru magldr. It freezes.. Every... Single.. Time.. I'm trying a second SD card now..
Update #3.. Looks like the digitizer just went out!! Great....

[Q] Rebooting Issue, Help needed!

Hello Ya'all,
First and foremost, I would like to thank the forum and its members for the great supply of information and technology.
Device: HD2 is currently running YukiXDA's Windows Phone 7 ROM
Storage Device: Sandisk 8GB Class 4 MicroSDHC
Issue: I flashed my phone with Windows 7 after formatting the SD card with SD-Card formater for optimal results. The installation went perfect, the SD card was recognized, etc. and everything was working perfectly. I added pictures and music to it, no problems; however, when I put an additional album onto the HD2, the phone started freezing and rebooting quite frequently, with the occasional Storage card error; thus, I assumed (and read) that adding a little more music would patch up the problem. I tried it and to my surprise, the rebooting decreased, but the problem still persists. I know some of ya'all are probably wondering: "Go buy a new SD card," However, this is one of the cards that is known for being compatible quite frequently; thus, I can't be too sure whether I'm just wasting money or not. Any help would be appreciated.
This might sound hilarious; however, after updating to blackseven mango, my phone has not rebooted for the past 6 hours (It is infamous for rebooting every hour or so). I am going to test this out one more night and see what the problem is. I'm sure it is not related to the roms; however, it would restart with every NoDo Rom, but for some reason, it hasn't with this one.
sd card
Its most likely your SD card I personally have never had any problems with restarting and I have the Samsung SD card that came with my us hd2

the adding of music is the key, ive found that my card has portions that are fine, in fact its super quick and stable, but if i go and install something it will start resetting, if its the same issue as mine then keep dumping 50MB of junk on it until it becomes stable, i honestly do not know why this works unless WP7 is so sensitive to IOPS that even the slightest hicup will make it reset

Hi
I have had problems with alot of reboots, up till 5 per hour and some times when booting it just get stuck on a white og green screen so that i have to pull the battery. But that was untill i found this yesterday, i filled my phone up(from over 10 gb free to only 2gb free) and now it is running sooooo smooth not a reboot yet
So people with random reboots might noth have to by a new sd card. ???
Wish i found this before i ordered a 16 GB class 10 hehehe
Just a quick report back on this, after filling my sd card up with music i only had ONE reboot last night in stead of rebooting many times per day else it has been running all smoth.
So i must say this is a great result by just adding music to the phone
HTC HD2 with cm7 hyperdroid
Hi my phone randomly reboots a lot ive rooted it and flashed cm7 hyper droid- v10.4 "estatic eagle" android version 2.3.3 build #GRI40 a long time ago but now recently it just started randomly rebooting. i believe it started when i tried to update the rom from rom manager to a newer cm7 hyperdroid but for some odd reason my phone also doesnt reboot into recovery mode to put a new rom on it. please help. its getting irratating. thank you

Sim card causes freezes and unstability?

Hi, I was bummed when my HD2 running Energy Rom 6.5 Titanium was beginning to freeze on me and it kept progressively getting worse and worse for a month. It got to a point where it became unuseable as it froze every 2 minutes and even my Android SD MIUI Rom could not even load in half the time and when it did it just froze after a few seconds. I thought my hardware was failing me and was contemplating either sending it in with my warranty or just getting a new phone completely.
BUT....I have since taken the sim card out as I can't use the phone and put it into my HTC BLUE ANGEL (God bless it, still chugging along nicely after 8 YEARS!!!!) and I notice my HD2 all of the sudden running smoothly! Its been running smoothly and fast for the last 72 hours on 6.5. I just loaded up my Android SD with no problems at all! Has anyone ever heard of a sim card causing the same problem symptoms as failing hardware? I HOPE this is the case as I'm trying to find anybody else that can shed a light on this. I love my HD2 and hope its not dying!
P.S. I put the sim card back in and noticed a slight slow down and a few instances of unresponsiveness but no freeze yet. My sim card is about 4-5 years old.
P.S. 2 - My phone finally froze after watching a 5 minute youtube clip in Android. Cant discern whether it is phone hardware related or app related or even Rom related as my Android always freezes atleast 1-2 times a day every since I had an Android SD Rom.
yes, sim cards fail / get old and can cause issues, non booting, random hard resets, gl;itchy screens, all kinds of things. phone your operator and ask for a new one.

Thats what I like to hear. I think my HD2 is not messed up after all. About 80 hours on Winmo no freezes w/o sim card and only one freeze on Android SD in 8 hours. Thanks!
