Now that the 2.3.40 update is out, anyone know if I can pull it and then go into /cache and rename it so it doesn't install and use it later when more development had been done for it?
Or just move the update out of /cache? Well this cause issues?
Thanks in advance

Could it be done? Or will I get stuck in a boot loop? Well I have my x deoxed but I can't seem to install any transparent notification vbar. I did that ultimate 2.2.2 and manually installed the done file. And also did that service transparent fix so im not sure if I should have left the service jar alone or not. Any help be nice.

Hey guys, after I rooted my SGT, my gmail app is there, but my widget is gone. Anyone know how to get it back?

Check and see if gmail got moved to the SD card. If it did move it back to phone and reboot.

Common issue when you root the SGT, happened to me. See the instructions at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15214760&postcount=2 to fix it.
Nice sk63! Worked no problem. Thanks guys.

an even EASIER way was to go into recovery, wipe cache and wipe Dalvik Cache then reboot.

When I found the Gmail.apk in /system/app/ I didn't have an option to uninstall, so i hit delete instead. I thought there was a gmail app in the Market, but after I deleted, there was no app in the market. Does anyone mind posting a copy of the apk for me?
Yeah man, when I get home ill upload the apk. If you still need it.

Hi
Since I know some of you have issues finding the link to the new android market (v3.0.26), I thought that I'll post the app here...
enjoy
Isn't it supposed to update itself?
When is the official update coming out? Is it safe to install this apk file?

seems very similar to windows phone 7
Do we really need another thread about this?
Got this information from another phone site and it seems to have worked on removing the EL30 system notification, it may actually work on all updates but I am not sure. Simple process:
Code:
Use root browser or other unrestricted file viewer
Navigate to /etc/security
Rename otacerts.zip to otacerts.zip.bak
That's it, seems to have worked, I rebooted the phone about ten times over the past day and the update notification has not returned
What is the development here?

whoops posted in wrong area, can one of the mods move it please?
Got it

Performed the rename as suggested and rebooted. Prompt changed to "Reboot and Install Update". How do remove the actual update?

Can you use super freeze? I used that back when I was on ef02.

sorry man, i'm not too up on the roms and stuff. I did delete the update and changed the name and nothing has came back for days now. I am running the cleanGB rom, so not sure if that has any effect on it or not.
My VZW G2 is rooted with the stock rom, no TWRP installed, some bloatware removed. I am receiving nagging notifications about the OTA update. I know a lot of people have had issues so I wanted to find out what the recommended course of action would be in my situation? Looking to make it as easy as possible as this is my first time rooting a phone. Thanks!

Please excuse my confusion, but which post on there refers to my issue? I did see the post about the FOTA folder. Is there something I should do with that? Thank you.
set automatic update check off, then delete this folders content and gone is the nagging.

Thank you for that explanation. What would be the best way to go about it if I wanted to install the update while retaining my root?

Wait until somebody posts a debloated root friendly version and flash away. Not sure if the update that's bugging people is 12b or if it's a different update.

So there is no way to use the OTA update even though I haven't flashed a custom ROM?

yes save the folder they are telling you to remove when a update comes out, if you want it then copy the folder back/set the permission rw/r/r and your good to go
How do set automatic update off? Or do I have to delete Or rename a certain file so this won't happen again. Thanks

Is there a safe way for me to just use the OTA update now?
if you have not changed recovery, and root only, just follow fellow people that have posted how to.
if you have custom recovery, there is a workaround that may or may not work for you.
