I downloaded two ringtones from mabilo ringtones to my phone. When I go to the sounds setting and look at the various ringtones one of them shows up five times and the other twice. I am rooted and used astro file manager to try and locate these additonal files. They are nowhere. I found the ringtones on the phone itself and they don't exist there and I found the ringtones on the sd card in the media folder and there is only one copy there. At one point I deleted them through mabilo and when I reinstalled, it just added another entry to what already appeared in sound settings ringtone option. When I remove the sd card from the phone, none of these downloaded ringtones work, eventhough they still appear ont he ringtone list. Any idea why I'm seeing multiple entries for the same ringtone or how to get rid of them?

Hi. Can someone advise me whether it is possible to add additional sounds to this device to be used, for example, as SMS text alert sounds? Can these sounds only be in WAV format? I have tried to add an .amr sound effect but it doesn't appear in the drop down list of sounds. I have successfully added a ringtone however.
Can anyone tell me if it is possible to add to the list of sounds for event notifications?
Thanks very much
CUSTOM ALERTS
hi i have found eveything iv needed so far on this site, (Thanks to all) as this is my first post.
I to would like to be able to add my own alerts for sms, mms, email and so on. im assuming theres a folder somewhere i can place them but and a reg tweek to allow access or is it as easy as formating the files to wav and placing them in the right dir??
Thanks again THE SOUNDSHARK
If you take your .wav formatted file and dump it in the Windows folder, you can use it as a sound for notifications. Go to Settings > Personal > Sounds & Notifications. Under the Notifications tab you can change what plays for certain events, like new text or new MMS.

***Sorry for the double post. Gotta get my numbers up somehow. ***
so do i just put them in the rings dir?
no. put them here...
My Device >>>> Windows. put them anywhere in here and they will be found (WAV Files only)
i added a gotmail.wav to the Windows folder it appears in the Notification screen but it won't play when testing it.
I am the same, I put the files in the Windows directory, can play it when I click on it, can select it as a notification but it won't play when needed.
anyone know how to fix this problem?
I had this problem and it turned out to be the audio format of the wav file.
On your PC, right-click on your problem wav file and select properties.
Click on the summary tab and you'll see "Audio Format".
I don't know why but one's recorded/ripped with "PCM" audio format work and ones with "MP3" don't!
p.s. This is my first post, got my O2 mini S two weeks ago and found this forum very helpful.
even with the registry tweak, it's impossible to me to let WM5 look for ringtones on the storage card. any solutions, non-software like ringo?
No Tweak needed
Just put them in the My Documents folder on the Storage card and all will be sweet.
so if I choose "make it as ringtone" from the contextual menu, it goes to "my docs" folder instead of folder "rings" on the device storage?
It works
Just try it. I have been using it ever since I got my phone. it works
If you put them in the My Docs folder, they will appear under "phone" when you set your ringtone for normal calls and they will appear when you go to contacts to set individual ringtones for people you know
Where is the Program?
What sounds do my music have ot be in to use as a sms notification sound aleart? and also where do i have to save them on my phone to work.
ive got mp3 to work as ringtones but i want some sound clips to use as sms sounds.
thank you once again for your help guys and girls
The sms alerts need to be .wav files and copied to your \windows folder or the root directory of the storage card
Have a look at the following link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=271390&highlight=sms+alerts
when u say root directory of my storage card can u explain please thanx
The Root Directory is the highest level directory in your storage card. Meaning, drop the file inside your storage card, but not inside any folders within your storage card because the phone will not be able to detect them.
You can also try Pocket Ringo, which allows you to chose MP3 ringtones for your ringer and text messages, and allows you to customize ringtones for groups or individuals. Its a great program!
This one is driving me nuts!
On my HD I had a message tone called ICR_BEEPBEEP - which I liked for SMS etc. I couldn't see it on the HD2, so I copied it off onto my memory card.
I then placed it in Windows\Rings (where all the other alarm tones are) and it appeared. Today I notice my SMS tone changed to something else by itself. When I went to change it back to ICR_BEEPBEEP, it wouldn't appear on the list.
I checked in the folder, and the file was there - but it had a different icon. I realised this was because it was a .WAV instead of a .WMA. I then copied it off to my PC, and using Soundforge, re-made it to a .WMA and copied it back to the Rings folder - but I can't get it to show up in the list I can have for messages. I can however get it to show up in the RingTones list.
How do I get it to message alerts?!?!
I have a similar issue, with an added WMA not appearing in my new message list.
Place your file in \Windows not in \Windows\Rings
That's done it.

Perfect - works great. Many thanks!
how do i change message ringtone to mp3? someone help me plssssssss!
hey
just put the .mp3 in the documents folder on your phone
you should have a My Documents\My Ringtones (preferred) or there is a Windows\Rings, either one will do.
then go to settings, sounds, notifications tab, from Event: drop down select Phone: Incoming call.

the Q is for atext message not an incoming call..
So this won't help.
As far as i now, you cannot use an mp3 for this.
change it into a WAV frmat and it will work.
it might be possible you need to put it in a special location (such as the windows folder or the my documents folder)
Yeah it's possible,
either do as gazzacbr said, but choose "Messaging: New text message" you can change almost all the phones sounds here...
I preffer this easier way (for me)
Slide to settings > Press Sounds > Scroll to bottom for "Notification Sounds" > Press the notification you want to change and select it off the list
If the mp3 isnt listed then use the FileManager, find your mp3 and hold down on it, when the menu appears scroll down to "Set as Ringtone" which actually just puts it in on the list of selectable tones. Then simply repeat the steps above.
- I should probably note, I downloaded an update off HTC's website that had something to do with MP3 ringtones but I could initially do this beforehand anyway.

I can't find it... can you please put it here?
He said he wants a mp3 to be used as a new text message tone. this is something even i wanted to ask, but well it cant be done. tried everything. the patch is for something else. tried putting it into my ring tones folder, tried putting the mp3 (a 26sec file) into windows ring folder but na nothing, restarted still nothing. the only thing i think will work is to try converting it into .wav format.
@rvrosa its there in touch2 support.
it can be done. i currently use a MP3 file as my SMS alert, and a different MP3 as my email alert.
If my previous technique doesnt work, copy the desired MP3 to the root of your microSD card. It will automatically list it in the selectable ringtones
under mobile device go into the folder that says application data then the folder that says sounds, put the mp3 in there and you should be able to select it for your sms.
