is possible to use mp3 as ringtone? or other soundformat or only midiare accepted?
Yes you can use MP3s as ringtones. Just copy the file to the /Windows/Rings folder.
you can use windows media and wave ....
.wma and .wav
Ah! ok many thanks!
you don't have to copy them to the rings folder
start photo contacts and the you can assign a ringtone, you can now choose al kinds of music files, also files that are on you storage card
saves space on your internal memory

The notification sounds can use ONLY .WAV sound files (ringing tone for phone may be .mp3 or .wma).
Simply copy them into the Windows folder and you should be able to see them listed.
For Incoming calls - copy the tones into the Windows/Rings folder.
copy mp3, wav to storage card (not on folder)

how cano play mp3's ive i get new sms sound tried to put the mp3 in the same folder as the other sound but it just dnt see it? can any 1 help
Use MP3 for SMS/alarms/events.... notifications
So for having a mp3.file as ring for incoming text messages you have to put the mp3.file in the windows directory on your device. Simply copy it from your Storage Card(or elsewhere) to your \Windows Folder.
The next step is to click on start->settings->Sounds¬ifications->Notifications->Choose your event(here: Messaging:New Text Message) and choose your ringtone which you copied to the windows directory in the upcoming list.
And that's it xD ... normally this works also for.wav and other music files ^^ xD
EDIT:
I encountered a problem with my method ... Windows doesnt not allow you to use .mp3 Files for Notifications as Sms/MMS/Events etc... You have to use .wav files instead of .mp3 files and copy the specific file into the windows directory. ^^
Useful INFOS:
Directory for ringtones and it has to be a .mp3 or.wav file -> Windows\Rings
Alarms, Events, Notifications etc have to be a .wav file -> simply copy it to Windows directory.
After that you should be able to acces and select the ringtone in the Sounds¬ifications menu.
So Hope this helps ^^ xD
Create a new folder in your Storage card. name it as My Documents. Put there whatever sounds you want (mp3, wav, wma, mid). Go to Start, Settings, Notifications and Sounds and you will have all these sounds available. Then choose the sound you want for text messages.
Happy New Year
Or something like that xD
found out why cheers checked file format was a nokia format acc cheers
i was looking for this for ages, should be added to wiki, under tweaks or tips, i dnt think any1 wants to use the phone storage for ringtones or any other tones.

Brilliant tip.
as the title says im trying to figure out how to apply a ring tone for a particular person that is located on my storage car...im trying to set a ring tone for each person and as we all know there is not enough space on the phone but i don't see how to do it unless the actual file is located in the ring tones folder under my documents in the phones storage......can anyone help or give some advice
after reading my post im unsure my intentions were stated....i have the contacts on my phone but i am trying to apply a ring tone when the song/file is located on my storage card
ring tones on storage card
now i am unsure if this was something left over from my wizard but i have noticed if the ring tones are placed on the root directory of the card (i.e. not in any folder what so ever or in a file) then the unit will pick up on the ring tones on the card but be forwarned if said card is missing then the unit will default the standard windows mobile ring tone
1a. Copy the music file to the root of your memory card OR
1b. Copy the music file to the RINGTONES folder of the phone's internal memory (Use 1A method if you need your storage space on your internal memory)
2. Go to contacts and find the contact you want to set the ringtone for and edit their contact details.
3. There will be a RINGTONE field and select that
4. A drop box will appear, then select that file you copied from your SD card.
Ringtone from MicroSD Card hack
Not sure if this is what you want, but this does a registery hack so you can have all your ringtones saved onto your micro sd card and be played without saving it onto the device. Works without any issues on my touch running wm6.1.
HKCU\Control Panel\SoundCategories\Ring\Directory:
Change \Windows\ TO \Storage Card\
***You need to create a folder in the root of your SD card named "My Ringtones" Otherwise this won't work***
hi,
So some people are asking how to change the sms tone and put there own!
first what you need is a mp3-wav file converter! Roxio can do it or "google" for it there are some free apps able to do it!
2. Convert your mp3 sms tone in the .wav format
3. Put your *.wav file in the folder my device/my documents/my ringtones
4. Go to start/settings/sounds and notifications
select notifications and event : messaging : new text message
select your converted wav file in the ring tone menu
5. done
Ps : there are 2 wav sms tones in the files below, simply put them in the my ringtones folder
Bye fabien

what doesn't show up?
Try dropping a MP3 directly into the Windows folder it should show up under all types of alerts then. When I put it into ringtones or rings it will only let me apply it as a ring tone not alert tone. I have not tried a WMV every thing I have is MP3 and there is a decent MP3 trimmer on the LEO so you just pick your start and end point and drop it directly into the Windows folder.

Sorry, The .wav file that I drop into the directory that you suggest. It doesn't show up as an available option when trying to change the tone for SMS.
I'll try dropping it into the Windows directory, as suggested above.

That worked Now I can use my Yoda Message again.
Mmmm, sms tone in the windows folder, there is.....
you can put all alert tones (.wav, .mp3 depending on what alert you want some can use both) into \Storage Card\My Documents
The phone will then find them.
You can cut and paste all the tones from phone memory to here to save some space. (Maybe not strictly needed on HD2 but useful on my previous phone - Diamond)
The \Storage Card\My Documents\Ringtones (or Rings or My Ringtones) never worked for me previously, I havent tried on HD2 but maybe this will help?
cheers

While this does work, the problem with this is that all your ringtones and alerts will show up in your music library.
I've found that putting your ringtones (activated when someone calls you) into your phone's memory, under Windows\Rings folder will work.
For alerts, for some reason this will not work - despite the fact that there are already numerous alert files in there (prefixed by 'Alert-somefile.wma'). To get Alerts to show up you need to actually put them into the phones memory, under the Windows directory.
If you do this, the ringtones and alerts will NOT show up in your music librar but you will be able to select them for ringtone/alert purposes.
there must be a way to add a folder as an exception in the music player just like how you can in the Photo/video album

When you say drop it directly into the windos folder where do I find that folder? When I go into my phone memory I get the following folders:-
Application Data
Conn Mgr
Documents and settings
MUSIC
My documents
Program Files
To use a mp3 for notifications, you need to place the sounds into the following folder
device------application data-----SOUNDS
all the files here will then show up as being available for all notifications ie mail, sms, mms, email etc
ringtones need to be in the ringtone folder, or just press and hold on the file you want to set as a ringtone from file explorer, you will get a menu popup with the option to set the file as a ringtone, it will then be automatically be copied into the ringtone folder aswell.
Hope this helps a little..
