Rings on Storage tweak don't work - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

even with the registry tweak, it's impossible to me to let WM5 look for ringtones on the storage card. any solutions, non-software like ringo?

No Tweak needed
Just put them in the My Documents folder on the Storage card and all will be sweet.

so if I choose "make it as ringtone" from the contextual menu, it goes to "my docs" folder instead of folder "rings" on the device storage?

It works
Just try it. I have been using it ever since I got my phone. it works

If you put them in the My Docs folder, they will appear under "phone" when you set your ringtone for normal calls and they will appear when you go to contacts to set individual ringtones for people you know

Where is the Program?

Ringtone location

I have used SKTools in the past to change where ringtones are stored to allow me to store my ringtones on my storage card, but it doesn't work with my Atom. It seems to re-locate the place where the phone looks for the tone, but the tones do not show up as options to choose from. The options which do show up (default tones) won't work either because the phone is looking on the storage card. Does anyone know how I can put ringtones on my storage card and choose / use them from there? Thanks!

ringtone from storage car

as the title says im trying to figure out how to apply a ring tone for a particular person that is located on my storage car...im trying to set a ring tone for each person and as we all know there is not enough space on the phone but i don't see how to do it unless the actual file is located in the ring tones folder under my documents in the phones storage......can anyone help or give some advice
after reading my post im unsure my intentions were stated....i have the contacts on my phone but i am trying to apply a ring tone when the song/file is located on my storage card
ring tones on storage card
now i am unsure if this was something left over from my wizard but i have noticed if the ring tones are placed on the root directory of the card (i.e. not in any folder what so ever or in a file) then the unit will pick up on the ring tones on the card but be forwarned if said card is missing then the unit will default the standard windows mobile ring tone
1a. Copy the music file to the root of your memory card OR
1b. Copy the music file to the RINGTONES folder of the phone's internal memory (Use 1A method if you need your storage space on your internal memory)
2. Go to contacts and find the contact you want to set the ringtone for and edit their contact details.
3. There will be a RINGTONE field and select that
4. A drop box will appear, then select that file you copied from your SD card.
Ringtone from MicroSD Card hack
Not sure if this is what you want, but this does a registery hack so you can have all your ringtones saved onto your micro sd card and be played without saving it onto the device. Works without any issues on my touch running wm6.1.
HKCU\Control Panel\SoundCategories\Ring\Directory:
Change \Windows\ TO \Storage Card\
***You need to create a folder in the root of your SD card named "My Ringtones" Otherwise this won't work***

Ringtones Mp3 on Treo Preo

Hi,
I have a Palm Treo Pro and i would have my mp3 for the ringtones of my contacts.
I know that i can use them on manage sounds in parameters but they take a lot of size in memory on the local memory.
I tried to make a folder my documents\my ringtones on my Micro-SD but it doesn't work.
What can i do .
Thanks for your help
Sincerely
On your storage card make a folder called My Documents, spelled just as it is on the phones memory. place your mp3's or ring tones directly in that folder. Don't place them in a sub folder inside the my documents folder.

i have tried,but it doesn't work
Hi,
Thanks for your answer but i had try but it doesn't work.
sorry about that i was thinking of my touch pro that i just sold. with the palm it's slightly different. here's how to do it.
settings > personal tab > sound & notifications > manage tab > menu > add. select your file from there and it will say it has added the ring tone. it should now appear in your drop down box.
see if that helps.
Ringtones
I believe they have to be stored to the device memory to be used as ringers. None on the storage card work.
I have all of my ring tones in the "My Documents" folder on my storage card and what i said above works just fine. You can use sk tools to change where your phone stores the default ring tones. It's default location I believe is the windows folder on the devices memory.

Rings not found even if located in default directory

I have this strange issue and didn't find any helpful advise although I searched the forums.
My rings are in \Windows\, which is correct. I cannot remove them from there anyway.
My registry says my default rings directory is \Windows\, which again is correct.
And yet I don't see them when managing rings.
Is there any other location in the registry apart Current User\Control Panel\SoundCategory\Ring\Directory that I need to modify?
Thanks...
Put your rings in the Storage Card\My documents instead
I specifically don't want them on my Storage Card. It works when they are there, but that's not what I am after.
I just want WM to respect the value, set in the registry, and it amazes me why it is not the case...
Try the on-board phone storage directory.. there should be a folder called "My Ringtones" in Windows or another folder. Sound files put in the section are available to use as ringtones only, not for notifications and alerts.
I have my ringtones in \My Documents on my device memory. It works perfectly well, and it also means they get backed up with MyPhone.
Thanks for your replies, but I specifically want to make my rings work from the Windows directory...
Most of them are there anyway and I cannot move them because they are marked as part of the ROM. So that's why I want all my rings there.
The thing is they don't appear in settings, even though Windows is set as the default ring directory in the registry...

Deleted Ringtone Still Appears As A Selectable Ringtone

I deleted a ringtone file on my SD Card/My Documents but it still appears as an option when I choose a Ringtone. Is there a way to go through the registry to delete it?
when you select a ring tone on the sd card and "set it as device ring tone" the phone copies it to my documents/my ringtones. So... it's still on the phone.

For me, when i put on the folder My Documents, it already appears as a selectable ringtone. I tried what you said, but i don't see a folder My Ringtones appear. I've been opening every folder on my SD Card. I still can't find the deleted ringtone anywhere...
Just to clarify, I'm talking about the settings Sound & Display. The ringtone still appears there, and plays the tune, but i'm unable to locate that ringtone on my sdcard.
Windows ringtone default directory
It's in the \Windows\Rings directory.
Alert tones for sms are in \Windows directory. Filenames are prefixed with Ring-.

I have this feeling I'm not explaining myself clearly enough.. I've attached screenshots to better explain myself
Screen Shot 01:
That is what my My Documents folder in my SD Card looks like.
Screen Shot 02:
As they are located in the My Documents folder, they appear as selectable ringtones
Screen Shot 03:
However, there is one ringtone which appears there "I Think I Love You -" that is not contained inside the My Documents folder
Screen Shot 04:
I have checked the My Device\Windows\ Rings folder and have not found the file there either.
So my question is, where can the file be? And how can i completely remove it? Thank you.
hmmmmm.
Locate at My Device\My Documents. Check "My POI" and "My Ringtones" folders.
