I bought a hero gsm on ebay and it has a blacklisted emei #. Does anyone know how to get this working?
thats very risky dude , you could be in prison by now but lucky you Hm However its bit impossible to get it back you can contact your carrier or complaint it to the police. explain it to them they might can help you
Report it to the carrier and the police and you might get it unlocked.

Dumb question... Does installing HSPL, MAGLDR and Android unlock the HD2 to other carriers? If not, how's that done? Do I just need an unlock code from T-Mobile?
Yep. Believe you need the code.

From what I've read, sounds right.

You are screwed like me. Trust me, TMobile wont give you the code unless your a TMobile customer. I tried calling them 8 times to get a code and they didn't want to give me it. I had to pay $40 for a code. Your best bet it to go on ebay and look for the code.
Good luck.
Yeah well I'm a T-Mobile customer so I'm good.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
sometimes they want you to have it for X amount of time...so in that case just say you are going out of the country and want to use it on a different network. (if you need all that...) good luck.
First off, not sure if this is in the right section but if its not please mods feel free to move. Also if this in anyway violates forum rules please remove.
With that said, as the title implies I need help from someone that fits the description of the title. Why? Long story, but I'll try summarizing it.
I bought a use nexus, everything works and its in perfect condition. Except that its blocked from T-Mobile. I hadn't notice this as I just recently tried activating it with them. before that I was with AT&T and everything worked perfectly. So what do I need? I would like to find someone who is willing to swap phones (same model). That only needs it for AT&T (or straight talk, etc). Like stated, phone is in perfect condition except a small scratch near the sim slot, Unlock boot loader, running Carbon ( I could put it back to stock). So please if you're willing to help me out PM me and we could work something out. Thanks.

If its blocked from T-Mobile it was stolen and the IMEI was blacklisted. Irreversible, unless you want to illegally change the IMEI
Google is your friend there

Nice information. So is there anyway to check a used phone if it is in any blacklist?
What do mean "it's blocked by Tmobile?"
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
As in bad IMEI number, up till yesterday I had no idea T-Mobile blocked phones. My guess is that the guy who sold it to me was doing fraud, report it lost so he could get another one. Reason being is that a few days later he hit me up asking me if I wanted another one of course I had no need for it so I just disregard his message...
Anyhow, if anyone is willing to do an swap. Let me know and we could work something out.
It works perfectly for at&t or any other carrier except T-Mobile :/

My guess is no, unless you call T-Mobile and ask em about the IMEI number. So if you're planning on purchasing a use T-Mobile phone call first!

Stolen/fraud and ATT will likely block the phone soon since they started sharing their blacklist database last year.
I feel for you. I also appreciate the full disclosure. But, I think that you're most likely stuck with it. After all this is a forum full of nexus owners so you'd be hard pressed to get a someone to even swap their nexus that's on the network of their choosing for one with a questionable esn. Perhaps if you sweetened the pot(throw in some $) you'd have better luck.
With that out the way... why didn't you demand a refund from the seller? Or at least swapped for the phone he text to try to sell you? Did you even tell the seller about the fact you couldn't activate the phone?

anyways, real answer.... dont quote me on this because im not 100% sure, but i believe any device with an IMEI can be blacklisted and this goes across carriers. IE: get blacklisted on tmobile, itll be blacklisted on att also. someone correct me please if im wrong

I would guess technically they could block any IMEI number they wanted. Sort of like MAC filtering on a network.

Never stolen anything in my life. My friend wants to buy one from CL but is afraid the seller might report it lost later on and tmobile then blacklists the phone. However i read that this phone cannot be blacklisted since it comes unlocked...

Yes the phone can be blacklisted. Tmo and Att are suppose to have a database so phones , with Verizon and. Sprint joining the database later this year

I have sold and bought a few phones on CL and never had a seller call and report it stolen. Not saying it won't ever happen. I do always get a receipt with price and name and signature of the seller. Every time.

How come your friend just doesn't get it from the play store? It's a lot safe.
Again what everybody else says, a buyer can report it stolen if they want to (or if the device was stolen and resold in the first place).

Definitely. Swappa and eBay are also good sources. Just make sure to use a bit of good logic and common sense and there shouldn't be a problem with either. Hell, I bought my mint N4 off swappa, got it in 2 days, and it was as mint as mint gets. Same goes for when i bought my galaxy nexus, except that was on ebay.
I could be wrong, but the only blacklisted phoned I've ever encountered, and this has only been recently I've started even seeing this, are phones that were bought on the subsidized plans and then the contract wasn't fulfilled.

any device that is registered on any network can be blocked/blacklisted by the account holder or if the EIP isn't paid off on a cancelled account. the IMEI is then unable to be used on any carrier within the US. You can still use the device in Canada or overseas with a local SIM card. the blacklisting is only here in the States.

What's the point of doing that? Unless they have an insurance of some kind it doesn't make any sense.

Yeah I understand that but in my experience T-Mobile won't kill the IMEI on a stolen phone without a few things in check first...like a police report and stuff. I live in Philadelphia, you know what its like calling the cops and filing a police report for a stolen cell phone lol...

The seller sold me a working phone, few days later reported it stolen. So he profited off me and also got a new N4 for a small deductible.

Yeah with a police report. That's law here in PA at least. I assure you of that, had a phone stolen out of my business last year, called T-Mobile...wouldn't even replace it on my insurance without a police report.

No if the company black listed the device then it will not work on that company again until they remove the black listing.

IMEI blacklisting is now like ESN blacklisting has been, but goes a step further and if a phone is blacklisted on AT&T, they share that list with T-Mobile, and vice versa now, or at least that's what they are trying to do. It's done at the carrier end.
if the phone was reported lost rather than stolen would it still be blacklisted? And if i unlocked the phone, then took it to another country say Qatar and put a sim from a phone company there, would it work?
i believe my t-mobile galaxy s4 is blacklisted not for sure.

You can call the carrier and find out if its blacklisted... t-mobile was really easy to ask as long as you have the IMIE number.
Hello everyone, its been a while since I've been on XDA.
Anyways, I recently purchased an unlocked Galaxy Note 4 (T-Mobile). I purchased it from a craigslist seller, and figured everything was okay after I put my SIM card in it and everything was working fine. After a few days of service with MetroPCS, it suddenly stopped working. I called Metro and they couldn't figure out the problem after 3 days. I then called T-Mobile since thats where the phone originally came from and they proceeded to tell me that the phone has been blacklisted due to nonpayment from the previous owner.
So I'm basically screwed now. I have a $600 phone that's nothing but a paperweight.
I've been in this community for years now but I have no idea what I'm about to do.
So basically my question is, if I root my phone and change my imei number to a valid one, would I be okay? Would I be able to register it under the network?
Any help is much appreciated. Thank you!
