No if the company black listed the device then it will not work on that company again until they remove the black listing.

IMEI blacklisting is now like ESN blacklisting has been, but goes a step further and if a phone is blacklisted on AT&T, they share that list with T-Mobile, and vice versa now, or at least that's what they are trying to do. It's done at the carrier end.

if the phone was reported lost rather than stolen would it still be blacklisted? And if i unlocked the phone, then took it to another country say Qatar and put a sim from a phone company there, would it work?
i believe my t-mobile galaxy s4 is blacklisted not for sure.

You can call the carrier and find out if its blacklisted... t-mobile was really easy to ask as long as you have the IMIE number.

I would guess technically they could block any IMEI number they wanted. Sort of like MAC filtering on a network.

Never stolen anything in my life. My friend wants to buy one from CL but is afraid the seller might report it lost later on and tmobile then blacklists the phone. However i read that this phone cannot be blacklisted since it comes unlocked...

Yes the phone can be blacklisted. Tmo and Att are suppose to have a database so phones , with Verizon and. Sprint joining the database later this year

How come your friend just doesn't get it from the play store? It's a lot safe.
Again what everybody else says, a buyer can report it stolen if they want to (or if the device was stolen and resold in the first place).

Definitely. Swappa and eBay are also good sources. Just make sure to use a bit of good logic and common sense and there shouldn't be a problem with either. Hell, I bought my mint N4 off swappa, got it in 2 days, and it was as mint as mint gets. Same goes for when i bought my galaxy nexus, except that was on ebay.
I could be wrong, but the only blacklisted phoned I've ever encountered, and this has only been recently I've started even seeing this, are phones that were bought on the subsidized plans and then the contract wasn't fulfilled.

any device that is registered on any network can be blocked/blacklisted by the account holder or if the EIP isn't paid off on a cancelled account. the IMEI is then unable to be used on any carrier within the US. You can still use the device in Canada or overseas with a local SIM card. the blacklisting is only here in the States.

Yeah I understand that but in my experience T-Mobile won't kill the IMEI on a stolen phone without a few things in check first...like a police report and stuff. I live in Philadelphia, you know what its like calling the cops and filing a police report for a stolen cell phone lol...

Nexus 4 (used on ATT previously) not working on T-Mobile

Hi All, I seem to be having a unique problem. I've searched the Web, gone to a T-Mobile store (A bunch of useless idiots), called Google Nexus support, called LG (Equally as stupid as the T-Mobile employees) They could not help me in any way whatsoever. As the title suggests, my Nexus 4 is not getting any signal with a T-Mobile SIM inserted. I used the phone on AT&T for 2 months with no problems at all. I've tried multiple T-Mobile SIMs and AT&T SIMs and the results are always the same. The phone is pure stock. No modifications. If anyone has any sort of knowledge or experience with this issue, your comments will be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Been fine on my Nexus, course I've only used T-Mobile with mine, I haven't been on AT&T with it.
Also Phone companies don't seem to be in the habit of blacklisting phones, In fact there's been quite a few people pushing for them to blacklist IMEI and such in the cases of say stolen phones and such, but many just simply don't have a database in place for it.

There is a chance that the former user was a tmobile user who has tmobile insurance which uses asurion. There's a good chance that he committed insurance fraud and reported the nexus 4 lost or stolen. Asurion will then blacklist that phone for that carrier. Tmobile themselves don't blacklist the phone, but asurion does.

[Guide] At&t Note 3 Sim Unlock

I bought two At&t Note 3s yesterday. One for me and one for a friend. I'm on At&t and my friend is on MetroPCS. I called At&t for an unlock and they couldnt get me a code, even though one was paid in full price and "qualified" to get unlocked according to them. So this is how I got the phones unlocked.
Reminder: I'm not responsible for any damage you may do to your phone. Proceed at your own risk!
Root is Required!
1. To root your At&t Note 3 follow this guide (Thank You designgears!)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2474422
2. You will need to allow unknown sources to be installed.
Settings>General>Security>Unknown Sources (Make sure its checked)
3. Install Chainfire's RegionLock Away App from Google Play Store (and buy him a beer :highfive or download it from here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2470551
4. Tap "Region Unlock" in the app
5. Let it do its thing
6. Choose Reboot Later (Thats what I did at least)
7. Turn off the phone and try a non-At&t sim card.
I tried my old T-mobile sim in mine and it pulled up, and we just got back from the MetroPCS store and have his running on that.

I have an unlocked note 3 simply I went into the AT&T store where I live and said unlock it or I won't buy it and bam they did it. I have a simple pay as you go T-Mobile card popped it in, input the code and unlocked I was. I had to buy the phone outright so was costly but not at all risky. LTE showed up just fine on the T-Mobile network.

I asked at&t here about that since i bought one full price and they said, to call customer service. So did the next day and they "couldnt" give me the network code. I honestly dont care about an unlock as I'm on At&t.
The only difference is that you're phone wont be region unlocked. Sim unlock and region unlock are different.
Did you buy your phone full price/off contract?

Thats kinda of upsetting. I walked into the store and told them I wanted one full price and they were like "There's no 'full price', its just at&t next and you pay it off all at once if you want". I went online and showed them the option to do full price OR next, and they said they couldn't sell full price in the store. Didn't understand that because my s3 and note 3 were both full price at the store, Plus I've found deals with coupons online and they've matched it before! I hate when I go somewhere and I know more than the person working with me (I think he was just trying to get more commission off me.IDK). : They made me wait longer for the phone than I should've too. Guess my store here just sucks :rolleyes

Warranty on verizon version

I have the verizon g2 and I wanted to get the warranty on it. The issue is I'm not using it on verizon. When I call they ask me for a verizon account. I told them that I bought the phone in full with no contact and didn't activate a verizon account. I said its unlocked and I'm using it on lycamobile. The cs now thinks I jail broke my phone so I explain to them that androids can't be jail Broken. By unlocked I mean it can be used with any carrier. And newer verizon phones are already unlocked. They get confused and just start making stupid excuses so I hang up. Is there anything I can do to get warranty on it because the manual says it has 1 year manufacture defect warranty on it. Any ideas what to do? Would it work out better if I went to a store or would they still need an account and stuff. Because I don't have receipts or anything since I bought it off eBay.
Sent from my VS980 4G using xda app-developers app
You should hope that the person from eBay has your receipt unless they are an actual vendor then that receipt for the purchase should be enough for a manufacturer warranty. Manufacturing warranty normally only covers the original/first buyer. Good luck though I'm not sure LG will cover your phone but they should.

Changing IMEI

Hello everyone, its been a while since I've been on XDA.
Anyways, I recently purchased an unlocked Galaxy Note 4 (T-Mobile). I purchased it from a craigslist seller, and figured everything was okay after I put my SIM card in it and everything was working fine. After a few days of service with MetroPCS, it suddenly stopped working. I called Metro and they couldn't figure out the problem after 3 days. I then called T-Mobile since thats where the phone originally came from and they proceeded to tell me that the phone has been blacklisted due to nonpayment from the previous owner.
So I'm basically screwed now. I have a $600 phone that's nothing but a paperweight.
I've been in this community for years now but I have no idea what I'm about to do.
So basically my question is, if I root my phone and change my imei number to a valid one, would I be okay? Would I be able to register it under the network?
Any help is much appreciated. Thank you!
