Unlock Question - HD2 General

Dumb question... Does installing HSPL, MAGLDR and Android unlock the HD2 to other carriers? If not, how's that done? Do I just need an unlock code from T-Mobile?

Yep. Believe you need the code.

How exactly do I get the code?

What do I say exactly? "Hey I bought this phone on ebay and I need to use it for ATT. Sorry T-Mobile sucks (at least where I live)... now can I have the code please?

just call tmo and tell them you need an unlock code and they will give it to you

From what I've read, sounds right.

You are screwed like me. Trust me, TMobile wont give you the code unless your a TMobile customer. I tried calling them 8 times to get a code and they didn't want to give me it. I had to pay $40 for a code. Your best bet it to go on ebay and look for the code.
Good luck.

Yeah well I'm a T-Mobile customer so I'm good.

sometimes they want you to have it for X amount of time...so in that case just say you are going out of the country and want to use it on a different network. (if you need all that...) good luck.

Need to Unlock My G1...

Hi guys, I dunno if this is the right forum for this, but need to unlock my G1/Dream so I can use my ATT Sim Card in it.
- I've tried T-Mobile, but they told me some BS that I had to have an account with them for like 60 days before they could do something like that for me, WTF.
- I really don't wanna pay to do it, b/c stores here are charging like $35 bucks!
I have the IMEI #, so if anybody can help me, I would really appreicate it!

I need to unlock my g1 too. I bought mine off ebay not thinking to ask the person to unlock it before shipping it to me
^Well, after searching the forums, there is a sticky here telling how you can do it...But calling T-Mobile isn't working for me.
If anybody here has a T-Mobile acct., please help!

Search on ebay for "G1 unlock code" and you'll get dozens of hits. I've purchased several codes from a seller called swiftsales714 and have always been satisfied.
^Thanks for the info, I'll check this out...

So is there ANYONE else out there with a working unlocked g2?! I'm just wondering because ever since I posted a pic of my phone working on at&t I've been constantly getting pms asking how I did it.

I'm assuming that people don't understand where they enter their unlock code. If this is anything like the other Android devices I've owned, then they have to stick in a sim card that doesn't belong to the carrier it's locked to. After you do that, it will ask you for the code to enter in.

Well obviously some of the phones that where unlocked do not register to the cell network anymore. They can not even scan for networks.
So if you want to provide some help here then please:
Tell us how the unlock process worked. Especially did you phone reboot after you entered the code. How long did the reboot take, ...
If you can an want please provide a logcat of the radio from the moment of boot until the data connection is established.
Thanks
I got my unlock code emailed to me, but I'm going to get a new phone at Costco today. The deal is just too good to pass up vs. from the T-mobile store.
After I get the new phone I'll unlock it!
Did they get their codes from tmobile or another source? Even in the instructions it said it was gonna reboot. Mine did after I typed it in then the reboot was as long as a normal reboot. And that's it

is ti really gonna cost me 45 bucks to unlock the G2?

i have unlocked allot of blackberrys and it usually only cost me 9 bucks, i cant believe it costs 45 bucks to unlock ther g2 so i can use it on att.
or am i missing something?
I have heard that if you call your carrier and ask for the unlock code they are legally obliged to give it to you. Now whether or not they will or this is true I don't know. I will try it some time myself I think

That is generally true, but there are various loopholes to that. For one, you need to be a current account holder at T-Mobile for them to give you the SIM unlock code. If this is not true for the OP, they don't need to supply it. If they are still a T-Mobile customer, it should be as easy as calling and asking for it. If they ask why, just tell them you are traveling abroad and want to use a foreign SIM. However, I also found the following tidbit on the Vision Wiki:
NOTE: T-Mobile does offer an unlock code to its loyal customers who are traveling overseas. You can call them and request it. However, as the XDA-forums can attest, some people have had difficulty with their codes, causing the phone to be unable to establish a connection to ANY network.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=HTC_Vision#One_at_a_time._What_is_Subsidy_Unlock_and_why_do_I_want_it.3F
The other free option is just root the phone and unlock the SIM yourself. See the following guide. Subsidy unlock is what you want, but you need to root first.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=HTC_Vision#Rooting_the_Vision_.28G2.2FDZ.29_and_DHD
As far as the paid unlock option, there are numerous vendors of unlock codes on eBay that charge around $10-20. I haven't used one personally, but others on XDA have used them, and they work. Pick one that has a good seller rating.
I always call T-Mobile Customer Service and tell them am traveling overseas and they always give me that unlock codes.

The gfree/rage rooting method automatically SIM-Unlocks the G2/DZ. No need to pay for some code or beg the carrier. If a novice like me can do it, anyone can!
I found the Gfree method extremely easy to really unlock your phone! Forget paying more money!!

Some people are averse to rooting, as its been linked to infertility, balding, and thermonuclear war.
Which would explain why I'm bald and infertile
Sorry to hear about that.

For someone who bought a used G2, I had no warranty considerations, and rooted my phone the first day I had it.

I think I read somewhere that t-mobile will make you keep the phone on their service for at least one billing cycle before they unlock it.
You'd better just call them and ask, the store clerks will give you an answer, or 3 answers, probably all wrong.
Please update the thread when you know for sure.

Its a 40 day wait for unlock, not sure if you could talk some manager into bypassing it. You could try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2471742

That looks to work if you don't need a true unlock where you can use any sim without restricts. I had great results with cellunlocker.net. It's $25 but you never have to worry about it again.
+1 for cellunlocker.

[Q] Region Lock Away didn't work?

I am on MK2 and I tried to use Chainfire's region lockaway app but It didnt work when i rebooted with a tmobile sim card the unlock meno came up asking for a code or to dismiss, tried running it 3 times so far it doesnt work, anyway to fix this?
Anyone?
I don't believe it even works on MK2. You are either going to have to get the code from AT&T or buy one online from a site that sells unlock codes. It's easier to just buy the code.
